To identify and utilize gene signatures for the prognostic evaluation of postoperative patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The gene mRNA expression profiles and corresponding clinicopathological data of postoperative patients with HCC were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Highly differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in tumor tissues compared to adjacent tissues were identified, and their associations with the overall survival (OS) of HCC patients were analyzed. The strongly associated genes were used to develop a prognostic score for the survival stratification of HCC, and the underlying mechanisms were analyzed using bioinformatics. A total of 376 DEGs were identified and four DEGs (ADH4, COL15A1, RET and KCNJ16) were independently associated with OS. A prognostic score derived from the four genes could effectively stratify HCC patients with different OS outcomes, independent of clinical parameters. Patients with high scores exhibited poorer OS than patients with low scores (HR 5.526, 95% CI: 2.451–12.461, p < .001). The four genes were involved in cancer-related biological processes and were independent of each other in bioinformatics analyses. Four genes strongly associated with the prognosis of postoperative patients with HCC were identified, and the derived prognostic score was simple and valuable for overall survival prediction.

M2-polarized tumor-associated macrophages contribute to the development of multiple human cancers, including renal cell carcinoma (RCC). However, the crosstalk mechanism between M2 macrophages and RCC remains unclear.The authors constructed a co-culture system of M2 macrophages differentiated from THP-1 and RCC cells. Microscopic examination and quantitative real‑time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) validated the morphology and types of macrophages. The proliferation, migration and invasion of RCC cells were assessed by Cell Counting Kit 8 (Dojindo Molecular Technologies, Inc, Santa Clara, CA, USA) and Transwell assay (Corning, Corning, NY, USA). Messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein expression of target molecules was detected by qRT‑PCR and western blotting. Expression of Ki-67, E-cadherin and N-cadherin was measured by immunofluorescence staining or immunohistochemistry. Molecular interaction was evaluated by RNA pull-down, RNA immunoprecipitation and co-immunoprecipitation. A xenograft model was established to determine tumor growth in vivo.RCC cells triggered the activation of M2 macrophages. Functionally, M2-polarized macrophages facilitated the growth, migration, invasion and epithelial-mesenchymal transition of RCC cells by suppressing autophagy, whereas rapamycin, an activator of autophagy, significantly counteracted the tumor-promoting effects of M2 macrophages. Mechanistically, M2 macrophage-derived C-C motif chemokine 2 (CCL2) enhanced modulation of muscleblind-like protein 2 (MBNL2) expression. MBNL2 raised the stability of B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) by directly binding to Bcl-2 mRNA, which endowed RCC cells with malignant properties via inhibition of beclin 1-dependent autophagy.RCC-induced M2-polarized macrophages secrete CCL2 to promote the growth and metastasis of RCC cells via inhibition of MBNL2/Bcl-2/beclin 1-mediated autophagy, which provide a novel perspective for the development of a therapeutic strategy for -RCC.

Bladder cancer is a common malignant tumor with a high recurrence rate and mortality, while the detailed mechanisms for bladder cancer progression and metastasis are unknown. Recently, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported to be involved in the development of cancers. In this study, we aim to investigate the role of lncRNA LINC00355 in bladder cancer progression and metastasis. The association between LINC00355 and the prognosis of bladder cancer patients was determined by Kaplan-Meier survival analysis. Cell migration and invasion ability were detected using the Transwell migration and invasion assay. The relationships of LINC00355, miR-424-5p, and High Mobility Group AT-Hook 2 (HMGA2) were verified through the luciferase assay and RNA pull-down assay. Xenograft tumor was established to evaluate tumor lung metastasis in vivo. qRT-PCR and western blot were used to detect gene expression. LINC00355 was upregulated in bladder cancer patients, especially in patients with higher TNM stage. Elevated LINC00355 was correlated with the poor prognosis of bladder cancer patients. Besides, overexpressed LINC00355 promoted migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) ability of bladder cancer cells. Contrarily, decreased LINC00355 suppressed migration, invasion, and EMT ability of bladder cancer cells, and lung metastasis of xenograft tumors. Furthermore, LINC00355 could regulate HMGA2 expression by acting as a sponge for miR-424-5p. Overexpression of HMGA2 induced EMT of bladder cancer cells. Additionally, LINC00355 regulated the migration, invasion, and EMT ability of bladder cancer cells through modulating HMGA2 expression via sponging miR-424-5p. LINC00355 promoted migration, invasion, and EMT ability of bladder cancer through elevating HMGA2 expression via acting as a sponge for miR-424-5p.

In this paper, the reduction of vibration of dual mass flywheel (DMF) torsional damper under multiple working conditions is studied. Firstly, a 6DOF non-linear transmission system model including engine, DMF, gear pair of gearbox and clutch friction model is established. Secondly, a comprehensive multi-condition simulation strategy including ignition condition, idle condition, startup condition, drive condition, uniform speed condition and coast condition is designed to study the vibration reduction performance of DMF under different conditions. Then, the accuracy of the 6DOF non-linear transmission system model is verified. The simulation and test results showed that the accuracy of the model meets the engineering requirements. Finally, the effects of the performance parameters of the DMF on the torsional vibration of the transmission system under various operation conditions are studied. The results show that the performance of DMFs varies significantly under different conditions, and under drive condition the DMF has the best performance of vibration reduction. The free angle has less impact on the damping performance of the DMF, but other parameters have greater influence. The influence trend of the same parameter on the vibration reduction performance of DMF is different under different working conditions. Therefore, the parameter matching of the DMF cannot be based on one driving condition. It is necessary to comprehensively consider the vibration damping performance of the vehicle powertrain under multi-condition to match the parameters.

Objective: Some conventional laboratory indicators have been found to be of value for the diagnosis of colorectal cancer (CRC). The present study aimed to systematically analyze the diagnostic value of conventional laboratory blood indicators for CRC, especially for early CRC. Methods: A total of 505 patients with CRC (n=210), colorectal adenoma (CRA) (n=167) or polyp (CRP) (n=128) were retrospectively collected. Clinical, laboratory and imaging data available before treatment were extracted. The diagnostic performances of laboratory blood indicators for discriminating total and early CRCs from CRA and CRP (CRA&P) were evaluated.Results: Fifty-three of 76 (69.7%) laboratory blood indicators were significant for discriminating CRC from CRA&P with areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) ranging within 0.554-0.819, of these indicators, 17 had AUC > 0.7, three had AUC > 0.8, and five had AUCs greater than that for carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). Fifteen indicators had overall sensitivities comparable to CEA for the diagnosis of CRC (35.7-55.4% vs. 47.7%, all P>0.05) at a specificity of 90%, and they were not or weakly correlated with CEA (absolute r = 0.058-0.333). For differentiating early CRC (TNM stage I+II, n=102) from CRA&P, the sensitivities for the 15 indicators ranged within 30.4%-55.5% at a specificity of 90% and similar to stage III+IV CRC.Conclusion: Conventional laboratory blood indicators are valuable for early CRC diagnosis, and are comparable to or better than CEA.

Antiviral drugs are among the most common and important classes of pharmaceuticals to treat viral infections, however their continuous emission and persistence in the receiving environment has attracted increasing attention about their potential ecological risks. Here we investigated the occurrence, fate and mass load of 9 antiviral drugs for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and hepatitis B, in 7 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) with different treatment processes in Guangdong, China. Totally, 8 target antiviral drugs were detected in the WWTPs influent wastewater, effluent wastewater and sludge, with maximal concentrations up to 7624 ng/L (telbivudine), 568 ng/L (telbivudine), and 2013 ng/g wet weight (telbivudine), respectively. The removal efficiency varied widely between different antiviral drugs, with the mean aqueous removal efficiency and total removal efficiency ranging from -6.2% (nevirapine) to 100% (lamivudine) and -1.2% (nevirapine) to 100% (lamivudine), respectively. Mass balance analysis showed that their elimination was mostly attributed to the biodegradation/biotransformation. The total back-estimated usage and emission of 9 target antiviral drugs were 77.8 t/y and 13.2 t/y in Guangdong province, China, respectively. Based on the sewage epidemiology approach, the consumption and emission of antiviral drugs in seven studied WWTPs were ranged at 2.31 mg/d/1000 people (nevirapine) to 4970 mg/d/1000 people (telbivudine), and 0 (lamivudine) to 900 mg/d/1000 people (telbivudine), respectively. Preliminary risk assessment showed that the antiviral drugs of zidovudine, ritonavir, lopinavir, and telbivudine in the receiving rivers could pose high ecological risks for aquatic environment. The findings from the present study illustrate the persistence of nevirapine in WWTPs, and provide essential evidence for further study into the development of wastewater treatment technologies.

Understanding the scaling relation of damage zone width with displacement of faults is important for predicting subsurface faulting mechanisms and fluid flow processes. The understanding of this scaling relationship is influenced by the accuracy of the methods and types of data utilized to investigate faults. In this study, seismic reflection data are used to investigate the throw and damage zone width of five strike-slip faults affecting Ordovician carbonates of the Tarim intracraton basin, NW China. The results indicate that fault slips with a throw less than 200 m had formed wide damage zones up to 3000 m in width. Also, damage zone width is found to have both a positive correlation and a power-law relation with throw of two orders of magnitude, with a ratio of these values varying in a range of 2–15. The relationship between throw and damage zone width is not a simple power-law and changes its slope from small to larger size faults. The results indicate that throw scales well with damage zone width for the studied faults, and hence these can be used to predict fault geometries in the Tarim Basin. The study of the wide carbonate damage zones presented here provides new insights into scaling of large-size faults, which involve multiple faulting stages.

Background: Only a limited number of studies considered the combined chemo-radiation therapy after surgery for treating locally advanced rectal cancer. Comparative studies on laparoscopic and open procedures indicated that laparoscopy surgery may be associated with fewer postoperative complications. Despite encouraging results from rectal cancer patients who received neoadjuvant chemo-radiotherapy prior to laparoscopic surgery, the acceptance of this procedure remains controversial, and conflicting evidence exists only in the form of retrospective trials. Objectives: Since laparoscopic surgery was introduced into clinical practice to treat rectal cancer after neoadjuvant chemo-radiotherapy, it has been discussed controversially whether laparoscopic surgery can be performed as effectively as an open procedure. To overcome the biases inherent in any nonrandomized comparison, we analyzed the propensity-matched analysis and randomized clinical trial. In this study, we set out to determine whether laparoscopic resection was non-inferior to open resection in treatment outcomes of rectal cancer after neoadjuvant chemo-radiotherapy. Method: Publications on laparoscopic surgery in comparison with open thoracotomy in treatment outcomes of rectal cancer after neo-adjuvant chemo-radiotherapy to November 2017 were collected. Summary hazard ratios (HRs) of endpoints of interest such as 3-OS (overall survival), 3-DFS (disease-free survival), and individual postoperative complications were analyzed in all trials. By using fixed- or random-effects models according to the heterogeneity, meta-analysis Revman 5.3 software was applied to analyze combined pooled HRs. Results: A total of 6 trials met our inclusion criteria. The pooled analysis of 3-DFS showed that laparoscopic surgery did not improve disease -free survival, compared with open thoracotomy (OR =1.48, 95% CI 0.95 – 2.29; P = 0.08), as well with the 3-OS (OR=0.96, 95%CI=0.66-1.41, P=0.084). The pooled result of duration of surgery indicated that laparoscopic surgery had a tendency towards a longer surgery time (SMD= 43.96, 95% CI 34.04– 53.88; P 0.00001) and a shorter hospital stay (SMD= -0.97, 95% CI -1.75– -0.18; P=0.02). However, no significant differences between laparoscopic surgery and open thoracotomy were observed in terms of the meta-analysis on the number of removed lymph nodes (SMD =-0.37, 95% CI -0.1.77 – 1.03; P = 0.60), blood loss (SMD =-21.30, 95% CI -0.48.36 – 5.77; P = 0.12), positive circumferential resection margin (OR =0.73, 95% CI 0.22– 2.48; P = 0.61) or postoperative complications (OR =0.89, 95% CI 0.67 – 1.17; P = 0.40) l. Conclusions: The current data supported the concept that laparoscopic surgery had correlated with a longer operative time but a shorter hospital stay, without superior advantages in short-term survival rates or oncologic efficiency for locally treating advanced rectal cancer after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. However, prospective investigation on long-term oncological results from laparoscopic surgery is required in the future to verify the benefits of laparoscopic surgery over open surgery after chemo-radiation therapy for treating locally advanced rectal cancer.

Purpose of the study: Cigarette smoking is a leading environmental contributor to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but its epigenetic regulation of mtTFA gene remains elusive. This study aims to explore the relationship of DNA methylation of mtTFA and cigarette smoking in COPD. Materials and Methods: We analyzed DNA methylation on mtTFA promoters in clinical samples from COPD patients and subjects with normal pulmonary function. Expression of mtTFA mRNA in the clinical samples and mtTFA mRNA and protein in human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs) treated with cigarette smoke extract (CSE) was evaluated. mtTFA mRNA and protein levels were measured to determine effects of demethylation agents on CSE-treated HUVECs. Results: The DNA methylation level of the mtTFA promoter was significantly increased in COPD group. Expression of mtTFA mRNA was downregulated in the lungs as a consequence of hypermethylation of mtTFA promoter. Expression of mtTFA mRNA and protein was downregulated in CSE-treated HUVECs as a consequence of hypermethylation of the mtTFA promoter. mtTFA expression in CSE-treated HUVECs was restored by the methylation inhibitor, 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine(AZA). Conclusions: Cigarette smoke-induced hypermethylation of the mtTFA promoter is related to the initiation and progression of COPD. Our finding may provide a new strategy for the intervention of COPD by developing demethylation agents targeting mtTFA hypermethylation.

Rolling quality is a key index of the cotton quality, which directly influences the quality of the lint and textiles, however, it is mainly decided through visual classification by skilled personnel. In order to realize the intelligent rapid classification of cotton quality, this paper proposed a decision-level fusion recognition method for the cotton quality grade based on colored-image information. After the preprocessing of images, RGB and HSV features were calculated, respectively. The features are normalization processed and principal component analysis (PCA) is employed to extract the greater contribution features of RGB and HSV images, which are adopted as BP neural network (BPNN) input parameters to identify the quality grade recognition of cotton, respectively, and then output parameters of BPNN are used as independent evidence to construct Basic Probability Assignment (BPA). Finally, D-S Theory is used to obtain the decision fusion and realize the high accuracy the recognition of cotton quality grades. The compared experimental results show that the precision of proposed method is significantly superior to classification using RGB and HSV features respectively. The method provided in this paper can realize the intelligent rapid classification of cotton quality, and proves the feasibility of cotton-graded artificial intelligent classification.

Nanoparticles are widely used in cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and food industries, but their safety and genetic toxicity are still unclear. In this study, the genotoxicity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and titanium dioxide nanoparticles (titanium dioxide nanoparticles) were evaluated by in vitro comet assay and PIG-A assay in TK6 cells. We exposed TK6 cells to two types of nanoparticles at the highest concentration of 200 μmol/L for 4 h and conducted the in vitro comet assay. We examined the mutation results of PIG-A gene in vitro after 4 h, 24 ho and 10 days of exposure, respectively. We also examined the endocytosis of nanoparticles in TK6 cells exposed to nanoparticles for 24 h. In the endocytosis assay, with the increase of nano-material concentration, the side scatter (SSC) of TK6 cells in flow cytometry showed a concentration-dependent and time-dependent increase, indicating that TK6 cells could uptake both types of nanoparticles. In the comet assay, AgNPs could induce a concentration-dependent increase in DNA tail intensity. However, titanium dioxide NPs could not induce the concentration-dependent increase of DNA fluorescence intensity of comet tail. Hongshan belt located in central part of Northern Qaidam basin, approximately western segment of Zongwulong mountain of Southern Qilian is composed of Mesozoic and Cenozoic and bounded by two major reversed faults respectively at its north and south sides is. Double layers of structures developed over the belt by compressively oblique slip of Qilian Mountains with Northern faults of Qaidam block during later Hymalaya stage. Faulted anticlines developed during later Yanshan orogeny distribute beneath Hongshan belt and structural traps are of faulted anticlines and blocks. For the primitive depression of Mesozoic, the principle distribution direction was NEE controlled by buried faults with NEE and NNW trends. Tectonic evolution, sedimentation and geochemistry study show that Hongshan depression exhibited relatively rapid subsidence and much effective oil accumulation. Argillite and oil shale are the source rocks; reservoir formations are distributed within Jurassic, Cretaceous and Tertiary. Upper Jurassic and thick Neogene red mud are regional cap rocks. Even though active light oil seeps occur along the NE trends fractures over Hongshan mountains implying that oil pools at depth might be the leakage sources, success haven’t been met after several exploration wells had been drilled. The study shows that faulted anticlines with unconformities beneath thrust faults underwent minor deformation during later Yanshan and later Hymalaya orogenies are favorable for hydrocarbon accumulations. These traps which formed prior to source rocks maturation are favorable for hydrocarbon accumulation.

IntroductionThis study aims to evaluate the predictive value of color Doppler ultrasound for the diagnosis of aberrant right subclavian artery (ARSA) with a co-occurring non-recurrent right laryngeal nerve (NRLN).Material and methodsIn the present study, 58 patients with ARSA (ARSA group) and 1,280 patients without ARSA (controls) were diagnosed by ultrasonography. In addition, 32 patients with ARSA (ARSA operation group) and controls underwent thyroidectomy with surgical exploration with or without NRLN. Then, the incidence of NRLN was analyzed. The right common carotid artery (RCCA) and right subclavian artery (RSA) trends were observed by ultrasound, and classified into two types: RCCA and RSA originating from the innominate artery (IA) (type I), and IA could not be detected (type II).ResultsA total of 32 cases of NRLN were found in the ARSA operation group, but no case was found in controls, and the difference was statistically significant (p = 0.0006). The difference in the constituent ratio of type I and type II was statistically significant between the ARSA group and controls (p = 0.0002). That is, the IA could not be detected in the ARSA group, which was accompanied by the RCCA that originated from the aortic arch, while the IA was detected in most patients in the control group at the level of the sternoclavicular joints.ConclusionsAberrant right subclavian artery can be rapidly detected by ultra­sonography. Aberrant right subclavian artery occurs when the RCCA originates from the aortic arch during detection. Patients with ARSA sometimes have co-occurring NRLN. Hence, vigilance in protecting the NRLN is needed during an operation.

Objective To determine whether B vitamin treatment was sufficient to reduce cognitive impairment associated with high-fat diets in rats and to modulate transketolase (TK) expression and activity. Methods To test this, we separated 50 rats into five groups that were either fed a standard chow diet (controls) or a high-fat diet (experimental groups H0, H1, H2, and H3). H0 group animals received no additional dietary supplementation, while H1 group animals were administered 100 mg/kg body weight (BW) thiamine, 100 mg/kg BW riboflavin, and 250 mg/kg BW niacin each day, and group H2 animals received daily doses of 100 mg/kg BW pyridoxine, 100 mg/kg BW cobalamin, and 5 mg/kg BW folate. Animals in the H3 group received the B vitamin regimens administered to both H1 and H2 each day. Results Over time, group H0 exhibited greater increases in BW and fat mass relative to other groups. When spatial and memory capabilities in these animals were evaluated via conditioned taste aversion (CTA) and Morris Water Maze (MWM), we found B vitamin treatment was associated with significant improvements relative to untreated H0 controls. Similarly, B vitamin supplementation was associated with elevated TK expression in erythrocytes and hypothalamus of treated animals relative to those in H0 (P Conclusion Together, these findings suggest B vitamin can modulate hypothalamic TK activity to reduce the severity of cognitive deficits in a rat model of obesity. As such, B vitamin supplementation may be a beneficial method for reducing cognitive dysfunction in clinical settings associated with high-fat diets.

The role of cytoskeleton-associated membrane protein 4 (CKAP4) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is controversial. The present study aimed to investigate the association between tumor CKAP4 mRNA expression and clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis in patients with HCC. Data relating to CKAP4 mRNA expression in HCC tumor and normal adjacent liver tissues, and clinicopathological characteristics, were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus and The Cancer Genome Atlas databases. The CKAP4 mRNA levels in tumor tissues were compared with those in normal adjacent liver tissues, their association with clinicopathological parameters was analyzed, and diagnostic and prognostic values were evaluated in patients with HCC. In all 4 datasets (total samples, n=693), CKAP4 mRNA levels were significantly higher in tumor tissues compared with adjacent tissues (all P3 years (P=0.003). The high-level CKAP4 mRNA group also exhibited lower overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) rates compared with the low-level group [hazard ratio (HR)=1.494; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.044–2.138; P=0.028] for OS and (HR=1.616; 95% CI, 1.022–2.555; P=0.040) for DFS. The results of the present study suggest that CKAP4 mRNA is upregulated in HCC tumor tissues compared with normal adjacent tissues, and is associated with poor clinical prognosis, pathological features and survival in patients with HCC. Thus, CKAP4 is a potential biomarker for HCC diagnosis and prognosis.

Theoretical modeling and experimental research are carried out on the dynamic torsional characteristics of a dual-mass flywheel (DMF) in this paper. Firstly, the structure and working principle of the DMF are analyzed. Secondly, the arc spring is analyzed by the discrete element method. For the different frictional torques in the working process, the linear fitting and equivalent energy methods are used to model the frictional torque under the dynamic condition of the arc spring. The fractional derivative model is used to model the viscous damping of DMF. Then, the parameter identification and model verification are carried out on the model, and the model error is analyzed. Finally, an experimental study on the dynamic torsional characteristics of DMF is carried out. The results demonstrate that the torsional stiffness of the DMF varies with the excitation amplitude and frequency. This modeling and test method can be used for structural design and performance prediction analysis of DMF.

Janus monolayer materials have been extensively and systematically investigated since the successful synthesis of MoSSe monolayer which broke the out-of-plane mirror symmetry of TMDs monolayers. In order to explore the new Janus material, we turn our attentions to the family of halogens next to group-VIA (S, Se, Te) and carried out a systematic study of the ZrBrCl monolayer. By applying biaxial strain to ZrBrCl monolayer, the band gap of ZrBrCl monolayer changes from indirect to direct and then to indirect. In addition, the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function and the absorption coefficient are calculated, which show the red shift under strain. It is found that the absorption range and strength in the visible region are almost the same as MoSSe monolayer, indicating that ZrBrCl monolayer may be a potential water-splitting photocatalyst. Moreover, we calculate that the lattice thermal conductivity of ZrBrCl monolayer at 300 K was 11.24 Wm−1K−1, and find that it is lower than that of MoSSe monolayer but slightly higher than that of ZrSSe monolayer. The reasons are analyzed through the phonon group velocity and phonon lifetime.

With the generalized gradient approximation, our work presents a comparative research for elastic properties, carrier mobility and thermodynamic properties of InX (X = O, S, Se, Te) monolayers using first principles computational density functional theory (DFT). Among the four indium compounds of the same main group, they all show isotropic Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio. Among them, the Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of InO are the largest, reaching 79.1 Nm−1 and 0.44, respectively. At the same time, we also calculated the cohesive energy of each primitive cell to explain their relationship. For the sake of studying the thermodynamic properties, the Helmholtz free energy in various area, area change, two-dimension bulk moduli, heat capacity of constant pressure and constant volume in different temperature are analyzing in detail. The heat capacity of both constant pressure and constant volume and thermal expansion coefficient adhere to the trend of InTe > InSe > InS > InO in the same temperature. Moreover, InO, InS and InSe have the negative thermal expansion coefficient at the low temperature. Furthermore, we used the deformation potential theory to calculate the carrier mobility, analyzing their elastic constants, deformation potential constants, and the effective mass of electrons and holes, and found that the effective mass of electrons is isotropic.

Ginned cotton’s quality is one significant factor to evaluate the cotton grade and influence the yarn qualities. Ginned cotton is always mixed with contaminants during picking, storing, drying, transporting, purchasing, and processing. Manual evaluation is time consuming, labor intensive, and unreliable. This paper proposed a fast feature extraction algorithm is presented for the measurement of cotton defects in ginned cotton within a complex background. The edge of cotton defects are extracted from fusion of three channel image of color image. A criterion based on areas is proposed to achieve fast morphological analysis. The different defects can be inspected automatically based on different thresholds. The comparison experiments between measuring system and technician were done and analyzed. The costing time of measuring system was less than 30 seconds, and accuracy was 89.5%. The measuring results show the method can meet with the requirement of grade determination of ginned cottons.

Three novel tetraphenylethene–organophosphorus dyads – (6-oxido-6H-dibenz[c,e][1,2]oxaphosphorin-6-yl)[4-(1,2,2-triphenylvinyl)phenyl] methanol, diphenyl {hydroxy[4-(1,2,2-triphenylvinyl)phenyl]methyl} phosphine oxide, and di(3,5-dimethylphenyl){hydroxy[4-(1,2,2-triphenylvinyl)phenyl] methyl} phosphine oxide – were synthesised and characterised by 1H, 13C, and 31P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. The photoluminescence properties were studied. All three dyads exhibited intense solid-state blue emission peaking at 449–466 nm, and also displayed aggregation-induced emission behaviours. The emission decays of these dyads in the solid state also fitted well with a triexponential model with an average lifetime of 2.65–4.42 ns. The experimental results demonstrated that the luminescent properties are highly dependent on the nature of the organophosphorus groups. The choice of phosphorus-containing components can cause variations in the photoluminescence emission and photoluminescence decays.

Bronchial artery aneurysm is uncommon, and the occurrence of multiple aneurysms arising from a bronchial artery is even rarer. To date, there has been only one published case report describing double bronchial artery aneurysms. We herein describe a case of three aneurysms arising from a left bronchial artery, accompanied by multiple bilateral hypertrophied bronchial and intercostobronchial arteries, as well as a double aortic arch. Bronchial artery aneurysm is potentially life-threatening, and immediate treatment is recommended to minimise the potential risk of rupture. The aneurysms in our case were successfully treated via transcatheter arterial embolisation using coils.

A novel coupled-defected ground structure (C-DGS) with inductors inserted between the adjacent defected ground structure (DGS) cells is presented in this paper. In comparison to conventional C-DGS structure, the proposed C-DGS exhibits a larger coupling-coefficient, resulting in a wider stop-band. Moreover, the stopband can be adjusted flexibly without modification since the coupling- coefficient varies with the change of the inductance of the inserted inductor. Based on this new C-DGS, a low-pass filter (LPF) using cascaded C-DGS is constructed. The proposed structure is experimentally verified through the demonstration of a low-pass filter design.
