Thanks to the rapidly increasing time-domain facilities, we are entering a golden era of research on gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). In this Letter, we report our observations of GRB 240529A with the Burst Optical Observer and Transient Exploring System, the 1.5-meter telescope at Observatorio Sierra Nevada, the 2.5-meter Wide Field Survey Telescope of China, the Large Binocular Telescope, and the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo. The prompt emission of GRB 240529A shows two comparable energetic episodes separated by a quiescence time of roughly 400 s. Combining all available data on the GRB Coordinates Network, we reveal the simultaneous apparent X-ray plateau and optical re-brightening around $10^3-10^4$ s after the burst. Rather than the energy injection from the magnetar as widely invoked for similar GRBs, the multi-wavelength emissions could be better explained as two shocks launched from the central engine separately. The optical peak time and our numerical modeling suggest that the initial bulk Lorentz factor of the later shock is roughly 50, which indicates that the later jet should be accretion-driven and have a higher mass loading than a typical one. The quiescence time between the two prompt emission episodes may be caused by the transition between different accretion states of a central magnetar or black hole, or the fall-back accretion process. GRB 230812B, detected by the Gamma-Ray Integrated Detectors (GRID) constellation mission, is an exceptionally bright gamma-ray burst (GRB) with a duration of only 3 seconds. Sitting near the traditional boundary ($\sim$ 2 s) between long and short GRBs, GRB 230812B is notably associated with a supernova (SN), indicating a massive star progenitor. This makes it a rare example of a short-duration GRB resulting from stellar collapse. Our analysis, using a time-evolving synchrotron model, suggests that the burst has an emission radius of approximately $10^{14.5}$~cm. We propose that the short duration of GRB 230812B is due to the combined effects of the central engine's activity time and the time required for the jet to break through the stellar envelope. Our findings provide another case that challenges the conventional view that short-duration GRBs originate exclusively from compact object mergers, demonstrating that a broader range of durations exists for GRBs arising from the collapse of massive stars., Comment: 10 pages, 3 tables, 11 figures

Topological acoustics provides new opportunities for materials with unprecedented functions. In this work, we report a design of topological valley acoustic interferometers by Y-shaped valley sonic crystals. By tight-bounding calculation and experimental demonstration, we successfully tune the acoustic energy partition rate by configuring the channel. An analytical theory proposed to explain the transmission property matches well with experimental observations. An additional {\pi} Berry phase is verified to accumulate circling along the shape-independent topological valley acoustic interferometer, unique in the pseudospin half systems. Based on the spectral oscillation originating from the accumulated dynamic phase and {\pi} Berry phase, a simplified method to measure acoustic valley interface dispersion is explored, which overcomes the shortcomings of the traditional fast Fourier transform method and improves the measuring efficiency by simply analyzing the peaks and dips of the measured transmission spectrum. Moreover, an effective approach to tuning its transmissions, as well as the spectral line shapes proposed and realized by the local geometry design of the interferometer, exhibits strong tunability under an unchanged physical mechanism. Our work opens an avenue to design future acoustic devices with the function of sound wave manipulation based on the physical mechanism of interference and Berry phase.

Detecting mid-infrared (MIR) radiation has significant astronomical applications, although limited by unsatisfactory MIR detectors. Here we reported on the realization of a MIR up-conversion interferometer based on synthetic long base-line (SLBL) in the laboratory. The experimental system consisted of an interferometer and subsequent up-conversion detection part of mid-infrared signal, which streamlined the structure and enhanced the reliability of the system. By using a tungsten filament lamp as an imitated star, we not only achieved the single target angle resolution of 1.10 times 10^(-4) rad, but also obtained the field angle resolution of 3.0 times 10^(-4) rad of double star targets. The angular resolution is in inverse proportion to the length of baseline. The maximum length of simulated baseline in the laboratory is about 3cm. In a Keck Interferometer (KI) liked program, the base line can reach up to 85m leading to a corresponding angular resolution of 3.0 times 10^(-9) rad (about 1.8mas). A quantum network provides an infrastructure connecting quantum devices with revolutionary computing, sensing, and communication capabilities. As the best-known application of a quantum network, quantum key distribution (QKD) shares secure keys guaranteed by the laws of quantum mechanics. A quantum satellite constellation offers a solution to facilitate the quantum network on a global scale. The Micius satellite has verified the feasibility of satellite quantum communications, however, scaling up quantum satellite constellations is challenging, requiring small lightweight satellites, portable ground stations and real-time secure key exchange. Here we tackle these challenges and report the development of a quantum microsatellite capable of performing space-to-ground QKD using portable ground stations. The quantum microsatellite features a payload weighing approximately 23 kg, while the portable ground station weighs about 100 kg. These weights represent reductions by more than an order and two orders of magnitude, respectively, compared to the Micius satellite. Additionally, we multiplex bidirectional satellite-ground optical communication with quantum communication, enabling key distillation and secure communication in real-time. Using the microsatellite and the portable ground stations, we demonstrate satellite-based QKD with multiple ground stations and achieve the sharing of up to 0.59 million bits of secure keys during a single satellite pass. Due to the high noise caused by solar background radiation, the existing satellite-based free-space quantum key distribution (QKD) experiments are mainly carried out at night, hindering the establishment of a practical all-day real-time global-scale quantum network. Given that the 3-5 {\mu}m mid-infrared (MIR) band has extremely low solar background radiation and strong scattering resistance, it is one of the ideal bands for free-space quantum communication. Here, firstly, we report on the preparation of a high-quality MIR (3370 nm) and telecom band (1555 nm) two-color polarization-entangled photon source, then we use this source to realize a principle QKD based on free-space and fiber hybrid channels in a laboratory. The theoretical analysis clearly shows that a long-distance QKD over 500 km of free-space and 96 km of fiber hybrid channels can be reached simultaneously. Polarimetric imaging, a technique that captures the invisible polarization-related properties of given materials, has broad applications from fundamental physics to advanced fields such as target recognition, stress detection, biomedical diagnosis and remote sensing. The introduction of quantum sources into classical imaging systems has demonstrated distinct advantages, yet few studies have explored their combination with polarimetric imaging. In this study, we present a quantum polarimetric imaging system that integrates polarization-entangled photon pairs into a polarizer-sample-compensator-analyzer (PSRA)-type polarimeter. Our system visualizes the birefringence properties of a periodical-distributed anisotropic material under decreasing illumination levels and diverse disturbing light sources. Compared to the classical system, the quantum approach reveals the superior sensitivity and robustness in low-light conditions, particularly useful in biomedical studies where the low illumination and non-destructive detection are urgently needed. The study also highlights the nonlocality of entangled photons in birefringence measurement, indicating the potential of quantum polarimetric system in the remote sensing domain.

Inspired by the BESIII newest observation of X(2370) glueball-like particle, we search its productions in both $e^+e^-$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$ 4.95 GeV and proton-proton (pp) collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$ 13 TeV with a parton and hadron cascade model PACIAE. In this model, the final partonic state (FPS) and the final hadronic state (FHS) are consecutively simulated and recorded. The X(2370) glueball- or tetraquark-state is then, respectively, recombined by two gluons or four quarks $ss\bar{s}\bar{s}$ in the FPS using the quantum statistical mechanics inspired dynamically constrained phase-space coalescence (DCPC) model. The X(2370) molecular-state is recombined by the baryon-antibaryon of $\Lambda$-$\bar{\Lambda}$ or $\Sigma$-$\bar{\Sigma}$, or by three mesons of $\pi^+\pi^{-}\eta'$, $K^+K^-\eta'$, or $K_S^0K_S^0\eta'$ in the FHS using DCPC model. In both $e^+e^-$ and pp collisions, significant discrepancies in the yields, the transverse momentum spectra and the rapidity distributions among the X(2370) glueball-, tetraquark-, and molecular-state are observed. These discrepancies are proposed as valuable criteria identifying the X(2370) different states from each other. Our results not only support the BESIII observation of glueball-like particle $\rm X(2370)$ production in $e^+e^-$ collisions, but also serve as a prediction for the $\rm X(2370)$ production in pp collisions. Equivalent Representations (ERs) of code are textual representations that preserve the same semantics as the code itself, e.g., natural language comments and pseudocode. ERs play a critical role in software development and maintenance. However, how to automatically generate ERs of code remains an open challenge. In this paper, we propose a self-reflection approach to generating ERs of code. It enables two Large Language Models (LLMs) to work mutually and produce an ER through a reflection process. Depending on whether constraints on ERs are applied, our approach generates ERs in both open and constrained settings. We conduct a empirical study to generate ERs in two settings and obtain eight findings. (1) Generating ERs in the open setting. In the open setting, we allow LLMs to represent code without any constraints, analyzing the resulting ERs and uncovering five key findings. These findings shed light on how LLMs comprehend syntactic structures, APIs, and numerical computations in code. (2) Generating ERs in the constrained setting. In the constrained setting, we impose constraints on ERs, such as natural language comments, pseudocode, and flowcharts. This allows our approach to address a range of software engineering tasks. Based on our experiments, we have three findings demonstrating that our approach can effectively generate ERs that adhere to specific constraints, thus supporting various software engineering tasks. (3) Future directions. We also discuss potential future research directions, such as deriving intermediate languages for code generation, exploring LLM-friendly requirement descriptions, and further supporting software engineering tasks. We believe that this paper will spark discussions in research communities and inspire many follow-up studies.

The Casas-Ibarra (CI) parametrization of the Yukawa coupling matrix of Majorana neutrinos is generalized by considering the exact seesaw relation and including non-unitarity of the $3 \times 3$ Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (PMNS) flavor mixing matrix. With the help of a full $6 \times 6$ Euler-like block description of the flavor structure for the seesaw mechanism, we find that the orthogonal matrix $\mathbb{O}$ in the CI parametrization can be expressed as $\mathbb{O}^{}_{ij} = \sqrt{M^{}_j/m^{}_i} \hspace{0.05cm} F^{}_{ij}$ with $m^{}_i$ and $M^{}_j$ being the masses of light and heavy Majorana neutrinos and $F^{}_{ij}$ consisting of the PMNS and active-sterile flavor mixing parameters (for $i, j = 1, 2, 3$). Noninvasive in vivo detection of collagen facilitates the investigation of mechanisms by which cancer-associated fibroblast (CAF) regulates the extracellular matrix. This study explored the feasibility of photoacoustic spectrum analysis (PASA) in identifying longitudinal changes of collagen modulated by CAFs using simulations and experiment studies. Optical and acoustic simulations in tissues were performed based on the histological slides of maximum cross-sections of murine malignancies to verify the effectiveness of photoacoustic (PA) detection system and the parameter "relative area of power spectrum density (APSD)". Experiments were conducted on three groups of mouse models with incremental ratios of CAFs and breast cancer cells at 3 continuous time points. Results discovered that the system configuration and APSD were capable of reflecting the evolution of collagen during cancer growth. Furthermore, cancers receiving a high dose of CAFs exhibited a suppressed collagen level. Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown impressive abilities in code generation, but they may generate erroneous programs. Reading a program takes ten times longer than writing it. Showing these erroneous programs to developers will waste developers' energies and introduce security risks to software. To address the above limitations, we propose HonestCoder, a novel LLM-based code generation approach. HonestCoder selectively shows the generated programs to developers based on LLMs' confidence. The confidence provides valuable insights into the correctness of generated programs. To achieve this goal, we propose a novel approach to estimate LLMs' confidence in code generation. It estimates confidence by measuring the multi-modal similarity between LLMs-generated programs. We collect and release a multilingual benchmark named TruthCodeBench, which consists of 2,265 samples and covers two popular programming languages (i.e., Python and Java). We apply HonestCoder to four popular LLMs (e.g., DeepSeek-Coder and Code Llama) and evaluate it on TruthCodeBench. Based on the experiments, we obtain the following insights. (1) HonestCoder can effectively estimate LLMs' confidence and accurately determine the correctness of generated programs. For example, HonestCoder outperforms the state-of-the-art baseline by 27.79% in AUROC and 63.74% in AUCPR. (2) HonestCoder can decrease the number of erroneous programs shown to developers. Compared to eight baselines, it can show more correct programs and fewer erroneous programs to developers. (3) Compared to showing code indiscriminately, HonestCoder only adds slight time overhead (approximately 0.4 seconds per requirement). (4) We discuss future directions to facilitate the application of LLMs in software development. We hope this work can motivate broad discussions about measuring the reliability of LLMs' outputs in performing code-related tasks.

Neutron star-white dwarf (NS-WD) binaries evolve into either ultra-compact X-ray binaries undergoing stable mass transfer or direct mergers by unstable mass transfer. While much attention has been on gravitational wave (GW) emissions from NS-WD binaries with the former evolutionary pathway, this work explores GW emissions related to {\em r}-mode instability of the accreting NSs in NS-WD mergers particularly with WD's mass $\gtrsim 1M_{\odot}$. Due to considerably high accretion rates, the GW emissions associated with both {\em r}-modes and magnetic deformation intrinsically induced by {\em r}-modes presented in this work are much stronger than those in NS-WD binaries categorized as intermediate-mass or low-mass X-ray binaries, rendering them interesting sources for the advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory and upcoming Einstein Telescope. Moreover, these strong GW emissions might accompany some intriguing electromagnetic emissions such as peculiar long gamma-ray bursts (LGRBs), fast blue optical transients including kilonova-like emissions associated with peculiar LGRBs, and/or fast radio bursts., Comment: Published in PRD

As an emerging magnetic phase, altermagnets with compensated magnetic order and non-relativistic spin-splitting have attracted widespread attention. Currently, strain engineering is considered to be an effective method for inducing valley polarization in altermagnets, however, achieving controllable switching of valley polarization is extremely challenging. Herein, combined with tight-binding model and first-principles calculations, we propose that interlayer sliding can be used to successfully induce and effectively manipulate the large valley polarization in altermagnets. Using Fe2MX4 (M = Mo, W; X = S, Se or Te) family as examples, we predict that sliding induced ferrovalley states in such systems can exhibit many unique properties, including the linearly optical dichroism that is independent of spin-orbit coupling, and the anomalous valley Hall effect. These findings imply the correlation among spin, valley, layer and optical degrees of freedom that makes altermagnets attractive in spintronics, valleytronics and even their crossing areas.

We construct a family of Hamiltonians whose phase diagram is guaranteed to have a single phase transition, yet the location of this phase transition is uncomputable. The Hamiltonians $H(\phi)$ describe qudits on a two-dimensional square lattice with translationally invariant, nearest-neighbour interactions tuned by a continuous parameter $\phi\in(0,1]$. For all $\phi\in(0,1]$, $H(\phi)$ is in one of two phases, one a gapless phase, the other a gapped phase. The phase transition occurs when $\phi$ equals the Chaitin's constant $\Omega$, a well-defined real number that encodes the Halting problem, and hence is uncomputable for Turing machines and undecidable for any consistent recursive axiomatization of mathematics. Our result implies that no general algorithm exists to determine the phase diagrams even under the promise that the phase diagram is exceedingly simple, and illustrates how uncomputable numbers may manifest in physical systems.

Remote sensing image plays an irreplaceable role in fields such as agriculture, water resources, military, and disaster relief. Pixel-level interpretation is a critical aspect of remote sensing image applications; however, a prevalent limitation remains the need for extensive manual annotation. For this, we try to introduce open-vocabulary semantic segmentation (OVSS) into the remote sensing context. However, due to the sensitivity of remote sensing images to low-resolution features, distorted target shapes and ill-fitting boundaries are exhibited in the prediction mask. To tackle this issue, we propose a simple and general upsampler, SimFeatUp, to restore lost spatial information in deep features in a training-free style. Further, based on the observation of the abnormal response of local patch tokens to [CLS] token in CLIP, we propose to execute a straightforward subtraction operation to alleviate the global bias in patch tokens. Extensive experiments are conducted on 17 remote sensing datasets spanning semantic segmentation, building extraction, road detection, and flood detection tasks. Topological photonics enables unprecedented photon manipulation by realizing various topological states, such as corner states, edge states, and surface states. However, achieving a topological fiber state has remained elusive. Here, we demonstrate a topological fiber state in a Weyl gyromagnetic photonic crystal fiber. By applying an in-plane magnetic bias to a gyromagnetic photonic crystal fiber with broken parity-inversion symmetry, we create an asymmetrical Weyl bandgap that supports one-way fiber states associated with type-II Weyl points. Dispersion and topological invariant calculations reveal the transition from Weyl surface states to one-way Weyl fiber states. Electromagnetic field simulations confirm the existence of one-way Weyl fiber states and their robust transport in the presence of metallic obstacle along the transport path. Diffusion models have achieved remarkable success in image generation, particularly with the various applications of classifier-free guidance conditional diffusion models. While many diffusion models perform well when controlling for particular aspect among style, character, and interaction, they struggle with fine-grained control due to dataset limitations and intricate model architecture design. This paper introduces a novel algorithm, Aggregation of Multi Diffusion Models (AMDM), which synthesizes features from multiple diffusion models into a specified model, enhancing its learned representations to activate specific features for fine-grained control. AMDM consists of two key components: spherical aggregation and manifold optimization. Spherical aggregation merges intermediate variables from different diffusion models with minimal manifold deviation, while manifold optimization refines these variables to align with the intermediate data manifold, enhancing sampling quality. Experimental results demonstrate that AMDM significantly improves fine-grained control without additional training or inference time, proving its effectiveness. Additionally, it reveals that diffusion models initially focus on features such as position, attributes, and style, with later stages improving generation quality and consistency. AMDM offers a new perspective for tackling the challenges of fine-grained conditional control generation in diffusion models: We can fully utilize existing conditional diffusion models that control specific aspects, or develop new ones, and then aggregate them using the AMDM algorithm. Gradient descent computed by backpropagation (BP) is a widely used learning method for training artificial neural networks but has several limitations: it is computationally demanding, requires frequent manual tuning of the network architecture, and is prone to catastrophic forgetting when learning incrementally. To address these issues, we introduce a brain-mimetic developmental spiking neural network (BDNN) that mimics the postnatal development of neural circuits. We validate its performance through a neuromorphic tactile system capable of learning to recognize objects through grasping. Unlike traditional BP-based methods, BDNN exhibits strong knowledge transfer, supporting efficient incremental learning of new tactile information. It requires no hyperparameter tuning and dynamically adapts to incoming data. Moreover, compared to the BP-based counterpart, it achieves classification accuracy on par with BP while learning over ten times faster in ideal conditions and up to two or three orders of magnitude faster in practical settings. Enabling generative models to decompose visual concepts from a single image is a complex and challenging problem. In this paper, we study a new and challenging task, customized concept decomposition, wherein the objective is to leverage diffusion models to decompose a single image and generate visual concepts from various perspectives. To address this challenge, we propose a two-stage framework, CusConcept (short for Customized Visual Concept Decomposition), to extract customized visual concept embedding vectors that can be embedded into prompts for text-to-image generation. In the first stage, CusConcept employs a vocabulary-guided concept decomposition mechanism to build vocabularies along human-specified conceptual axes. The decomposed concepts are obtained by retrieving corresponding vocabularies and learning anchor weights. In the second stage, joint concept refinement is performed to enhance the fidelity and quality of generated images. We further curate an evaluation benchmark for assessing the performance of the open-world concept decomposition task. Our approach can effectively generate high-quality images of the decomposed concepts and produce related lexical predictions as secondary outcomes. Extensive qualitative and quantitative experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of CusConcept.

Principal component analysis (PCA) is a widely used technique for dimension reduction. As datasets continue to grow in size, distributed-PCA (DPCA) has become an active research area. A key challenge in DPCA lies in efficiently aggregating results across multiple machines or computing nodes due to computational overhead. Fan et al. (2019) introduced a pioneering DPCA method to estimate the leading rank-$r$ eigenspace, aggregating local rank-$r$ projection matrices by averaging. However, their method does not utilize eigenvalue information. In this article, we propose a novel DPCA method that incorporates eigenvalue information to aggregate local results via the matrix $\beta$-mean, which we call $\beta$-DPCA. The matrix $\beta$-mean offers a flexible and robust aggregation method through the adjustable choice of $\beta$ values. Notably, for $\beta=1$, it corresponds to the arithmetic mean; for $\beta=-1$, the harmonic mean; and as $\beta \to 0$, the geometric mean. Moreover, the matrix $\beta$-mean is shown to associate with the matrix $\beta$-divergence, a subclass of the Bregman matrix divergence, to support the robustness of $\beta$-DPCA. We also study the stability of eigenvector ordering under eigenvalue perturbation for $\beta$-DPCA. In this work, we introduce explicit P-waves to construct the diquark operators, then construct the local four-quark currents to explore the hidden-charm tetraquark states with the $J^{PC}=0^{++}$, $1^{+-}$ and $2^{++}$ in the framework of the QCD sum rules at length. Our calculations indicate tiny light-flavor $SU(3)$ breaking effects on the tetraquark masses due to the special currents and the predictions support assigning the $X(4775)$ and $X(4500)$ as the $[uc]_{\widehat{V}}[\overline{uc}]_{\widehat{V}}-[dc]_{\widehat{V}}[\overline{dc}]_{\widehat{V}}$ and $[sc]_{\widehat{V}}[\overline{sc}]_{\widehat{V}}$ tetraquark states with the $J^{PC}=0^{++}$ respectively, and assigning the $Z_{c}(4600)$ and $Z_{\bar{c}\bar{s}}(4600)$ as the $[uc]_{\widehat{V}}[\overline{dc}]_{\widehat{V}}$ and $[qc]_{\widehat{V}}[\overline{sc}]_{\widehat{V}}$ tetraquark states with the $J^{PC}=1^{+-}$ respectively, and thus account for the LHCb's data., Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures

Depth perception is essential for a robot's spatial and geometric understanding of its environment, with many tasks traditionally relying on hardware-based depth sensors like RGB-D or stereo cameras. However, these sensors face practical limitations, including issues with transparent and reflective objects, high costs, calibration complexity, spatial and energy constraints, and increased failure rates in compound systems. While monocular depth estimation methods offer a cost-effective and simpler alternative, their adoption in robotics is limited due to their output of relative rather than metric depth, which is crucial for robotics applications. In this paper, we propose a method that utilizes a single calibrated camera, enabling the robot to act as a ``measuring stick" to convert relative depth estimates into metric depth in real-time as tasks are performed. Our approach employs an LSTM-based metric depth regressor, trained online and refined through probabilistic filtering, to accurately restore the metric depth across the monocular depth map, particularly in areas proximal to the robot's motion. Experiments with real robots demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms current state-of-the-art monocular metric depth estimation techniques, achieving a 22.1% reduction in depth error and a 52% increase in success rate for a downstream task., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

Multi-view egocentric hand tracking is a challenging task and plays a critical role in VR interaction. In this report, we present a method that uses multi-view input images and camera extrinsic parameters to estimate both hand shape and pose. To reduce overfitting to the camera layout, we apply crop jittering and extrinsic parameter noise augmentation. Additionally, we propose an offline neural smoothing post-processing method to further improve the accuracy of hand position and pose. Visual emotion analysis holds significant research value in both computer vision and psychology. However, existing methods for visual emotion analysis suffer from limited generalizability due to the ambiguity of emotion perception and the diversity of data scenarios. To tackle this issue, we introduce UniEmoX, a cross-modal semantic-guided large-scale pretraining framework. Inspired by psychological research emphasizing the inseparability of the emotional exploration process from the interaction between individuals and their environment, UniEmoX integrates scene-centric and person-centric low-level image spatial structural information, aiming to derive more nuanced and discriminative emotional representations. By exploiting the similarity between paired and unpaired image-text samples, UniEmoX distills rich semantic knowledge from the CLIP model to enhance emotional embedding representations more effectively. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first large-scale pretraining framework that integrates psychological theories with contemporary contrastive learning and masked image modeling techniques for emotion analysis across diverse scenarios. Additionally, we develop a visual emotional dataset titled Emo8. Emo8 samples cover a range of domains, including cartoon, natural, realistic, science fiction and advertising cover styles, covering nearly all common emotional scenes. Comprehensive experiments conducted on six benchmark datasets across two downstream tasks validate the effectiveness of UniEmoX. We investigate the ground-state properties of the Hubbard model on wide diagonal square cylinders, rotated by $\pi/4$ relative to the regular lattice orientation. Using state-of-the-art density matrix renormalization group calculations with a large number of states, we convincingly demonstrate the development of a unidirectional charge density wave (CDW) characterized by infinite-length stripes along the primitive vector of square lattice in models with next-nearest-neighbor hopping $t'=-0.1\sim -0.3$ and doping $\delta \sim 14\%$. Intriguingly, analysis of pair-pair correlation functions along these stripes reveals incommensurate pair density wave (PDW) superconductivity with diverged susceptibility. To the best of our knowledge, this is probably the first controlled numerical evidence of dominant PDW in the single-band Hubbard model on square lattices. At lower doping $\delta \sim 10\%$, we observed the formation of an additional CDW order within each stripe, which aligns across different stripes, forming a holon Wigner crystal phase. The spin pattern retains antiferromagnetic stripes with anti-phase domain walls. The ordering momentum of this emerged CDW order is remarkably close to the center-of-mass momentum of Cooper pairs in the PDW phase, suggesting a multifaceted relationship between CDW and PDW ordering., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures + supplemental material

The gravitational wave (GW) event GW190521, likely originating from a binary black hole (BBH) merger within an active galactic nucleus (AGN) disk, is associated with the optical flare ZTF19abanrhr. The remnant BHs from BBH mergers can launch the jet and outflow and then interact with the disk medium, which can be responsible for the associated electromagnetic radiations. In this \textit{letter}, we examine the shock breakout and subsequent cooling emissions from four potential components: the outflow, jet head, jet cocoon, and disk cocoon, all driven by the remnant BH within the AGN disk. Using dynamic models and observational constraints, for GW190521, we identify the parameter space for each component and conclude that either the outflow or the disk cocoon could produce the observed electromagnetic signal, with the disk cocoon requiring more extreme parameters. A violation of the usual conservation law is proposed in Rastall theory. We consider two generalizations of Rastall theory: Brans-Dicke-Rastall theory and the newly established Rastall-scalar-tensor theory, the latter being a further generalization of the former. The field equations in these two generalized theories are studied across different parameter space, and the polarization modes of gravitational waves, as a key focus, are subsequently investigated. The results show that the polarization modes of gravitational waves in Brans-Dicke-Rastall theory are the same as those in Brans-Dicke theory; specifically, both theories exhibit the plus, cross, and breathing modes. However, in Rastall-scalar-tensor theory, the polarization modes of gravitational waves depend on the parameter space of the theory. Particularly, over a broad range of the parameter space, regardless of some special values of the parameters, it allows only two tensor modes, just as in general relativity, without introducing any additional degrees of freedom. This indicates that Rastall theory offers a novel approach to constructing modified gravity theories that propagate only two tensor degrees of freedom. In the remaining regions of the parameter space, there is also one scalar mode in addition to the two tensor modes. The scalar mode can be either a mixture of the breathing and longitudinal modes or just a pure breathing mode, depending on the parameter space. These results will play a crucial role in constraining the theoretical parameters through future gravitational wave detection projects, such as LISA, Taiji, and TianQin.

We address the challenge of online Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) with a focus on self-rewarding alignment methods. In online RLHF, obtaining feedback requires interaction with the environment, which can be costly when using additional reward models or the GPT-4 API. Current self-rewarding approaches rely heavily on the discriminator's judgment capabilities, which are effective for large-scale models but challenging to transfer to smaller ones. To address these limitations, we propose a novel, only-prompting self-rewarding online algorithm that generates preference datasets without relying on judgment capabilities. Additionally, we employ fine-grained arithmetic control over the optimality gap between positive and negative examples, generating more hard negatives in the later stages of training to help the model better capture subtle human preferences. Finally, we conduct extensive experiments on two base models, Mistral-7B and Mistral-Instruct-7B, which significantly bootstrap the performance of the reference model, achieving 34.5% in the Length-controlled Win Rates of AlpacaEval 2.0.

Electroencephalogram-based brain-computer interface (BCI) has potential applications in various fields, but their development is hindered by limited data and significant cross-individual variability. Inspired by the principles of learning and memory in the human hippocampus, we propose a multi-task (MT) classification model, called AM-MTEEG, which combines learning-based impulsive neural representations with bidirectional associative memory (AM) for cross-individual BCI classification tasks. The model treats the EEG classification of each individual as an independent task and facilitates feature sharing across individuals. Our model consists of an impulsive neural population coupled with a convolutional encoder-decoder to extract shared features and a bidirectional associative memory matrix to map features to class. Experimental results in two BCI competition datasets show that our model improves average accuracy compared to state-of-the-art models and reduces performance variance across individuals, and the waveforms reconstructed by the bidirectional associative memory provide interpretability for the model's classification results. The neuronal firing patterns in our model are highly coordinated, similarly to the neural coding of hippocampal neurons, indicating that our model has biological similarities.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world's largest and most powerful particle accelerator, has been a pivotal tool in advancing our understanding of fundamental physics. By colliding heavy ions (such as lead ions), the LHC recreates conditions similar to those just after the Big Bang. This allows scientists to study the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP), a state of matter where quarks and gluons are not confined within protons and neutrons. These studies provide insights into the strong force and the early universe's behavior. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive overview of recent significant findings from A Large Ion Collider Experiment (ALICE) at LHC. The topics encompass measurements regarding to properties of the QGP, particle production, flow and correlations, dileptons, quarkonia and electromagnetic probes, heavy flavor, and jets. Pilot sequence design over doubly selective channels (DSC) is challenging due to the variations in both the time- and frequency-domains. Against this background, the contribution of this paper is twofold: Firstly, we investigate the optimal sequence design criteria for efficient channel estimation in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems under DSC. Secondly, to design pilot sequences that can satisfy the derived criteria, we propose a new metric called oversampled ambiguity function (O-AF), which considers both fractional and integer Doppler frequency shifts. Optimizing the sidelobes of O-AF through a modified iterative twisted approximation (ITROX) algorithm, we develop a new class of pilot sequences called ``oversampled low ambiguity zone (O-LAZ) sequences". Through numerical experiments, we evaluate the efficiency of the proposed O-LAZ sequences over the traditional low ambiguity zone (LAZ) sequences, Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequences and m-sequences, by comparing their channel estimation performances over DSC.

Axions, initially proposed to solve the strong CP problem, have recently gained attention in condensed matter physics, particularly in topological insulators. However, detecting axion dynamics has proven challenging, with no experimental confirmations to date. In this study, we identify the surface of magnetic topological insulators as an ideal platform for observing axion dynamics. The vanishing bulk gap at the surface allows for order $O(1)$ variations in the axion field, making the detection of axion-like phenomena more feasible. In contrast, these phenomena are strongly suppressed in the bulk due to the small magnetic exchange gap. We investigate two-photon decay as a signature of axion dynamics and calculate the branching ratio using a perturbative approach. Our findings reveal that the photon flux emitted from the surface is in-plane and orders of magnitude larger than that from the bulk, making it detectable with modern microwave technology. This paper summarizes the 3rd NTIRE challenge on stereo image super-resolution (SR) with a focus on new solutions and results. The task of this challenge is to super-resolve a low-resolution stereo image pair to a high-resolution one with a magnification factor of x4 under a limited computational budget. Compared with single image SR, the major challenge of this challenge lies in how to exploit additional information in another viewpoint and how to maintain stereo consistency in the results. This challenge has 2 tracks, including one track on bicubic degradation and one track on real degradations. In total, 108 and 70 participants were successfully registered for each track, respectively. In the test phase, 14 and 13 teams successfully submitted valid results with PSNR (RGB) scores better than the baseline. This challenge establishes a new benchmark for stereo image SR.

We examine the vacuum stability of gauge symmetry breaking in five dimensions, compactified on the $S_1/(\mathbb{Z}_2 \times \mathbb{Z}'_2)$ orbifold. We consider $SU(N)$, $Sp(N)$, $SO(2N)$ and $SO(2N+1)$ theories in the bulk, and provide an exhaustive classification of possible parity assignments that lead to stable orbifolds and of the corresponding symmetry breaking patterns. We use these results in the search for viable asymptotic grand unification theories (aGUT), testing the stability criteria on models based on $SU(6)$ and $SU(8)$. As a result, we identify two viable aGUTs: a unique $SU(6)$ pathway down to the Standard Model, and one $SU(8)$ model leading to an intermediate Pati-Salam partial unification., Comment: 44 pages, 4 figures

Baryonic two-body $B$ mesons decays have been measured experimentally for some time, which provides an excellent ground for studying the QCD of baryonic $B$ decays. In this work, we investigate the two-body doubly-charmed baryonic $B$ decays in the perturbative QCD (PQCD) approach including higher twist contributions to the light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs). The charmed baryon LCDAs are included up to the twist four and the effect of the subleading component of the $B$ meson LCDAs is studied for details. With the inclusion of these higher-power contributions, the PQCD results on rates can explain the current experimental data well. Moreover, we note that the SU(3) symmetry breaking is important in the concerned processes and play an essential role in understanding the measurements of $\mathcal{B}(\overline{B}^0\to \Lambda_c^+\overline \Lambda_c^-)$ and $ \mathcal{B}({B}^-\to\Xi_c^0\overline \Lambda_c^-)$. We also evaluate the angular asymmetries for the first time, which have neither been measured experimentally nor calculated theoretically. In this paper, we study the single production of doubly charged Higgs $H^{\pm\pm}$ in the type-II seesaw at the high energy muon collider. Compared with the pair production channel $\mu^+\mu^-\to H^{++} H^{--}$, the single production channel $\mu^+\mu^-\to \mu^\mp\ell^\mp H^{\pm\pm}$ in principle could probe the mass region above the threshold $m_{H^{\pm\pm}}>\sqrt{s}/2$. The single production channel depends on the Yukawa coupling $h$, which is related to the neutrino oscillation parameters. We show that the Majorana phases $\phi_1$ and $\phi_2$ have great impact on the individual cross section of the single production. We find that the same sign dilepton signature from $H^{\pm\pm}\to \ell^\pm\ell^\pm$ could probe $m_{H^{\pm\pm}}\lesssim2.6(7.1)$ TeV at the 3 (10) TeV muon collider when the triplet VEV $v_\Delta\lesssim3$ eV., Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures

Compared with single robots, Multi-Robot Systems (MRS) can perform missions more efficiently due to the presence of multiple members with diverse capabilities. However, deploying an MRS in wide real-world environments is still challenging due to uncertain and various obstacles (e.g., building clusters and trees). With a limited understanding of environmental uncertainty on performance, an MRS cannot flexibly adjust its behaviors (e.g., teaming, load sharing, trajectory planning) to ensure both environment adaptation and task accomplishments. In this work, a novel joint preference landscape learning and behavior adjusting framework (PLBA) is designed. PLBA efficiently integrates real-time human guidance to MRS coordination and utilizes Sparse Variational Gaussian Processes with Varying Output Noise to quickly assess human preferences by leveraging spatial correlations between environment characteristics. An optimization-based behavior-adjusting method then safely adapts MRS behaviors to environments. To validate PLBA's effectiveness in MRS behavior adaption, a flood disaster search and rescue task was designed. 20 human users provided 1764 feedback based on human preferences obtained from MRS behaviors related to "task quality", "task progress", "robot safety". The prediction accuracy and adaptation speed results show the effectiveness of PLBA in preference learning and MRS behavior adaption.

The one-dimensional side gate based on graphene edges shows a significant capability of reducing the channel length of field-effect transistors, further increasing the integration density of semiconductor devices. The nano-scale electric field distribution near the edge provides the physical limit of the effective channel length, however, its imaging under ambient conditions still lacks, which is a critical aspect for the practical deployment of semiconductor devices. Here, we used scanning nitrogen-vacancy microscopy to investigate the electric field distribution near edges of a single-layer-graphene. Real-space scanning maps of photo-charged floating graphene flakes were acquired with a spatial resolution of $\sim$ 10 nm, and the electric edge effect was quantitatively studied by analyzing the NV spin energy level shifts due to the electric Stark effect. Since the graphene flakes are isolated from external electric sources, we brought out a theory based on photo-thermionic effect to explain the charge transfer from graphene to oxygen-terminated diamond probe with a disordered distribution of charge traps. Real-time tracing of electric fields detected the photo-thermionic emission process and the recombination process of the emitted electrons. This study provides a new perspective for graphene-based one-dimensional gates and opto-electronics with nanoscale real-space imaging, and moreover, offers a novel method to tune the chemical environment of diamond surfaces based on optical charge transfer., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

Recently, large language models (LLMs) have shown strong potential in facilitating human-robotic interaction and collaboration. However, existing LLM-based systems often overlook the misalignment between human and robot perceptions, which hinders their effective communication and real-world robot deployment. To address this issue, we introduce SYNERGAI, a unified system designed to achieve both perceptual alignment and human-robot collaboration. At its core, SYNERGAI employs 3D Scene Graph (3DSG) as its explicit and innate representation. This enables the system to leverage LLM to break down complex tasks and allocate appropriate tools in intermediate steps to extract relevant information from the 3DSG, modify its structure, or generate responses. Importantly, SYNERGAI incorporates an automatic mechanism that enables perceptual misalignment correction with users by updating its 3DSG with online interaction. SYNERGAI achieves comparable performance with the data-driven models in ScanQA in a zero-shot manner. Through comprehensive experiments across 10 real-world scenes, SYNERGAI demonstrates its effectiveness in establishing common ground with humans, realizing a success rate of 61.9% in alignment tasks. Deploying advanced large language models on edge devices, such as smartphones and robotics, is a growing trend that enhances user data privacy and network connectivity resilience while preserving intelligent capabilities. However, such a task exhibits single-batch computing with incredibly low arithmetic intensity, which poses the significant challenges of huge memory footprint and bandwidth demands on limited edge resources. To address these issues, we introduce Cambricon-LLM, a chiplet-based hybrid architecture with NPU and a dedicated NAND flash chip to enable efficient on-device inference of 70B LLMs. Such a hybrid architecture utilizes both the high computing capability of NPU and the data capacity of the NAND flash chip, with the proposed hardware-tiling strategy that minimizes the data movement overhead between NPU and NAND flash chip. Specifically, the NAND flash chip, enhanced by our innovative in-flash computing and on-die ECC techniques, excels at performing precise lightweight on-die processing. Simultaneously, the NPU collaborates with the flash chip for matrix operations and handles special function computations beyond the flash's on-die processing capabilities. Overall, Cambricon-LLM enables the on-device inference of 70B LLMs at a speed of 3.44 token/s, and 7B LLMs at a speed of 36.34 token/s, which is over 22X to 45X faster than existing flash-offloading technologies, showing the potentiality of deploying powerful LLMs in edge devices., Comment: 15 pages, 16 figures

Surgical automation holds immense potential to improve the outcome and accessibility of surgery. Recent studies use reinforcement learning to learn policies that automate different surgical tasks. However, these policies are developed independently and are limited in their reusability when the task changes, making it more time-consuming when robots learn to solve multiple tasks. Inspired by how human surgeons build their expertise, we train surgical automation policies through Surgical Incremental Reinforcement Learning (SurgIRL). SurgIRL aims to (1) acquire new skills by referring to external policies (knowledge) and (2) accumulate and reuse these skills to solve multiple unseen tasks incrementally (incremental learning). Our SurgIRL framework includes three major components. We first define an expandable knowledge set containing heterogeneous policies that can be helpful for surgical tasks. Then, we propose Knowledge Inclusive Attention Network with mAximum Coverage Exploration (KIAN-ACE), which improves learning efficiency by maximizing the coverage of the knowledge set during the exploration process. Finally, we develop incremental learning pipelines based on KIAN-ACE to accumulate and reuse learned knowledge and solve multiple surgical tasks sequentially. Our simulation experiments show that KIAN-ACE efficiently learns to automate ten surgical tasks separately or incrementally. We also evaluate our learned policies on the da Vinci Research Kit (dVRK) and demonstrate successful sim-to-real transfers.

This paper presents a low-cost, centralized modular underwater robot platform, ModCube, which can be used to study swarm coordination for a wide range of tasks in underwater environments. A ModCube structure consists of multiple ModCube robots. Each robot can move in six DoF with eight thrusters and can be rigidly connected to other ModCube robots with an electromagnet controlled by onboard computer. In this paper, we present a novel method for characterizing and visualizing dynamic behavior, along with four benchmarks to evaluate the morphological performance of the robot. Analysis shows that our ModCube design is desirable for omnidirectional tasks, compared with the configurations widely used by commercial underwater robots. Autocorrelation measurement is theoretically demonstrated to characterize attosecond pulses by studying the two-photon double ionization (TPDI) process. An interferometric autocorrelation curve is presented in the change of TPDI probability with the time delay between two identical attosecond pulses, and its full width at half maximum (FWHM) $\tau_{e}$ has a relationship $\tau_{e}=1.77\tau+15$ with the FWHM $\tau$ of the attosecond pulse. The curve is also decoded to obtain the center frequency and FWHM of the attosecond pulse by fitting. In addition, the required peak intensity of the attosecond pulse is estimated to be on the order of $10^{16}\,\rm{Wcm^{-2}}$ in autocorrelation experiments. Background: Large language models (LLMs) have seen extraordinary advances with applications in clinical decision support. However, high-quality evidence is urgently needed on the potential and limitation of LLMs in providing accurate clinical decisions based on real-world medical data. Objective: To evaluate quantitatively whether universal state-of-the-art LLMs (ChatGPT and GPT-4) can predict the incidence risk of myocardial infarction (MI) with logical inference, and to further make comparison between various models to assess the performance of LLMs comprehensively. Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 482,310 participants recruited from 2006 to 2010 were initially included in UK Biobank database and later on resampled into a final cohort of 690 participants. For each participant, tabular data of the risk factors of MI were transformed into standardized textual descriptions for ChatGPT recognition. Responses were generated by asking ChatGPT to select a score ranging from 0 to 10 representing the risk. Chain of Thought (CoT) questioning was used to evaluate whether LLMs make prediction logically. The predictive performance of ChatGPT was compared with published medical indices, traditional machine learning models and other large language models. Conclusions: Current LLMs are not ready to be applied in clinical medicine fields. Future medical LLMs are suggested to be expert in medical domain knowledge to understand both natural languages and quantified medical data, and further make logical inferences.

The properties displayed by graphene at van Hove singularities (VHS) have caught significant attention in recent years. The emergence of exotic quantum states at these singularities prompts investigations on their evolution within the realm of multilayer stacking structures. In our research, we delve into the study of a repulsive Hubbard model focusing on the AA-stacked bilayer graphene at VHS. Within the system's ground state, each of the top and bottom layers hosts a set of spin-density waves (SDWs). These SDWs each takes on three mutually perpendicular spin polarization directions. Importantly, there is noteworthy feature that their spin polarization directions in the two layers exist as elegant embodiments of antiferromagnetic arrangement, persvading the structure with a striking pattern. Referred to in prior research as the chiral SDWs, this intralayer density wave structure confers the system the characteristics of a Chern topological insulator. However, what is particularly fascinating is the pure divergence of the bilayer structure's topological traits when compared to its monolayer counterpart. The system exhibits a profound symmetry known as $Z_2$, preserving its invariance under the combined operations of time-reversal and interlayer exchange. Consequentely, the system's ground state manifests a seemingly trivial Chern number, yet harbors a profound and intricate nontrivial $Z_2$ topological invariant. These remarkable observations align our findings with the conceptual framework of the quantum spin Hall effect.

Accurately reconstructing dense and semantically annotated 3D meshes from monocular images remains a challenging task due to the lack of geometry guidance and imperfect view-dependent 2D priors. Though we have witnessed recent advancements in implicit neural scene representations enabling precise 2D rendering simply from multi-view images, there have been few works addressing 3D scene understanding with monocular priors alone. In this paper, we propose MOSE, a neural field semantic reconstruction approach to lift inferred image-level noisy priors to 3D, producing accurate semantics and geometry in both 3D and 2D space. The key motivation for our method is to leverage generic class-agnostic segment masks as guidance to promote local consistency of rendered semantics during training. With the help of semantics, we further apply a smoothness regularization to texture-less regions for better geometric quality, thus achieving mutual benefits of geometry and semantics. Experiments on the ScanNet dataset show that our MOSE outperforms relevant baselines across all metrics on tasks of 3D semantic segmentation, 2D semantic segmentation and 3D surface reconstruction., Comment: 8 pages, 10 figures

There is a growing interest in the role that LLMs play in chemistry which lead to an increased focus on the development of LLMs benchmarks tailored to chemical domains to assess the performance of LLMs across a spectrum of chemical tasks varying in type and complexity. However, existing benchmarks in this domain fail to adequately meet the specific requirements of chemical research professionals. To this end, we propose \textbf{\textit{ChemEval}}, which provides a comprehensive assessment of the capabilities of LLMs across a wide range of chemical domain tasks. Specifically, ChemEval identified 4 crucial progressive levels in chemistry, assessing 12 dimensions of LLMs across 42 distinct chemical tasks which are informed by open-source data and the data meticulously crafted by chemical experts, ensuring that the tasks have practical value and can effectively evaluate the capabilities of LLMs. In the experiment, we evaluate 12 mainstream LLMs on ChemEval under zero-shot and few-shot learning contexts, which included carefully selected demonstration examples and carefully designed prompts. The results show that while general LLMs like GPT-4 and Claude-3.5 excel in literature understanding and instruction following, they fall short in tasks demanding advanced chemical knowledge. Conversely, specialized LLMs exhibit enhanced chemical competencies, albeit with reduced literary comprehension. This suggests that LLMs have significant potential for enhancement when tackling sophisticated tasks in the field of chemistry. In this paper, we consider the network slicing (NS) problem which attempts to map multiple customized virtual network requests (also called services) to a common shared network infrastructure and manage network resources to meet diverse quality of service (QoS) requirements. We propose a mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) formulation for the considered NS problem that can flexibly route the traffic flow of the services on multiple paths and provide end-to-end delay and reliability guarantees for all services. To overcome the computational difficulty due to the intrinsic nonlinearity in the MINLP formulation, we transform the MINLP formulation into an equivalent mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) formulation and further show that their continuous relaxations are equivalent. In sharp contrast to the continuous relaxation of the MINLP formulation which is a nonconvex nonlinear programming problem, the continuous relaxation of the MILP formulation is a polynomial-time solvable linear programming problem, which significantly facilitates the algorithmic design. Based on the newly proposed MILP formulation, we develop a customized column generation (cCG) algorithm for solving the NS problem. The proposed cCG algorithm is a decomposition-based algorithm and is particularly suitable for solving large-scale NS problems.
