ABSTRACT Background Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) and diabetic nephropathy (DN) are common complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Although nerve conduction studies (NCS) and sympathetic skin response (SSR) can detect DPN, the more sensitive method for early diagnosis remains unclear. Furthermore, whether DPN can be used as a predictor for diabetic nephropathy needs clarification. Methods We evaluated nerve conduction studies, sympathetic skin response, and the diabetic nephropathy indicator microalbuminuria (MAU) in 192 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and 50 healthy controls. Results Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus showed a lower sensory nerve conduction velocity (SCV), sensory active nerve potential (SNAP), motor nerve conduction velocity (MCV), and compound motor action potential (CMAP) than the controls on NCS. Abnormal rates for nerve conduction studies and sympathetic skin response were 75.0% and 83.3%, respectively, in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Interestingly, 54.2% of patients with normal nerve conduction studies had an abnormal sympathetic skin response. Moreover, we found a positive correlation between sympathetic skin response and microalbuminuria for the first time. The abnormal rate of microalbuminuria was 53.8%, lower than that of abnormal nerve conduction studies or sympathetic skin response patients. Conclusion Sympathetic skin response is a more sensitive method than nerve conduction studies for the early diagnosis of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Abnormal sympathetic skin response might serve as an indicator for early diabetic nephropathy. Additionally, diabetic peripheral neuropathy may occur earlier than diabetic nephropathy in the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

A distribution network voltage control method based on TCN and MPGA under cloud edge collaborative architecture is proposed to address the issues of heavy computational burden and inability to balance economic efficiency in traditional decentralized and centralized voltage control methods. Firstly, under the cloud edge collaboration architecture, the power prediction model based on time convolutional networks is trained in the cloud, and the edge predicts the load demand and new energy active output in each region based on the TCN Attention power prediction model issued by the cloud. Then, considering safety and economy comprehensively, with the goal of minimizing the daily network loss and voltage regulation cost in the distribution network, the Pareto solution set for the optimal operation point of each voltage regulation equipment in the entire distribution network was solved based on an improved multi population genetic algorithm at the distribution cloud main station. Finally, the optimal distribution network voltage control scheme is obtained based on the Pareto solution set. Based on the simulation system, experimental testing was conducted on the proposed method, and the results showed that its daily voltage regulation cost and network loss were 863.4 yuan and 43.73 MW h, respectively. The average absolute percentage error of the prediction model was 4.51 %, which was superior to other comparative methods.

Glucose transporters GLUT1 belong to the major facilitator superfamily and are essential to human glucose uptake. The overexpression of GLUT1 in tumor cells designates it as a pivotal target for glycoconjugate anticancer drugs. However, the interaction mechanism of glycoconjugate drugs with GLUT1 remains largely unknown. Here, we employed all-atom molecular dynamics simulations, coupled to steered and umbrella sampling techniques, to examine the thermodynamics governing the transport of glucose and two glycoconjugate drugs (i.e., 6-D-glucose-conjugated methane sulfonate and 6-D-glucose chlorambucil) by GLUT1. We characterized the specific interactions between GLUT1 and substrates at different transport stages, including substrate recognition, transport, and releasing, and identified the key residues involved in these procedures. Importantly, our results described, for the first time, the free energy profiles of GLUT1-transporting glycoconjugate drugs, and demonstrated that H160 and W388 served as important gates to regulate their transport via GLUT1. These findings provide novel atomic-scale insights for understanding the transport mechanism of GLUT1, facilitating the discovery and rational design of GLUT1-targeted anticancer drugs.

IntroductionProprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin-9 (PCSK9) has been primarily studied in the cardiovascular field however, its role in cancer pathophysiology remains incompletely defined. Recently, a pivotal role for PCSK9 in cancer immunotherapy was proposed based on the finding that PCSK9 inhibition was associated with enhancing the antigen presentation efficacy of target programmed cell death-1 (PD-1). Herein, we provide results of a comprehensive pan-cancer analysis of PCSK9 that assessed its prognostic and immunological functions in cancer.MethodsUsing a variety of available online cancer-related databases including TIMER, cBioPortal, and GEPIA, we identified the abnormal expression of PCSK9 and its potential clinical associations in diverse cancer types including liver, brain and lung. We also validated its role in progression-free survival (PFS) and immune infiltration in neuroblastoma.ResultsOverall, the pan-cancer survival analysis revealed an association between dysregulated PCSK9 and poor clinical outcomes in various cancer types. Specifically, PCSK9 was extensively genetically altered across most cancer types and was consistently found in different tumor types and substages when compared with adjacent normal tissues. Thus, aberrant DNA methylation may be responsible for PCSK9 expression in many cancer types. Focusing on liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC), we found that PCSK9 expression correlated with clinicopathological characteristics following stratified prognostic analyses. PCSK9 expression was significantly associated with immune infiltrate since specific markers of CD8+ T cells, macrophage polarization, and exhausted T cells exhibited different PCSK9-related immune infiltration patterns in LIHC and lung squamous cell carcinoma. In addition, PCSK9 was connected with resistance of drugs such as erlotinib and docetaxel. Finally, we validated PCSK9 expression in clinical neuroblastoma samples and concluded that PCSK9 appeared to correlate with a poor PFS and natural killer cell infiltration in neuroblastoma patients.ConclusionPCSK9 could serve as a robust prognostic pan-cancer biomarker given its correlation with immune infiltrates in different cancer types, thus potentially highlighting a new direction for targeted clinical therapy of cancers.

Sequentially timed all-optical mapping photography is one of the main emerging ultra-fast detection technologies that can be widely applicable to ultra-fast detection at the picosecond level in fields such as materials and life sciences. We propose a new optical structure for an all-optical spatial mapping module that can control the optical field of two-dimensional imaging while improving spectral resolution and detector sensor utilization. The model of optical parameters based on geometrical optics theory for the given structure has been established, and the theoretical analysis of the inter-frame energy crosstalk caused by incident beam spot width, chromatic aberration, and main errors of the periscope array has been conducted. The optical design of the two-dimensional (2D) all-optical spatial mapping module was finally completed using ZEMAX OpticStudio 2018 software. The results show that our optical module can realize targets of 16 frames and 1.25 nm spectral resolution.

Drought stress can seriously affect the yield and quality of wheat (Triticum aestivum). So far, although few wheat heat shock transcription factors (Hsfs) have been found to be involved in the stress response, the biological functions of them, especially the members of the HsfC (heat shock transcription factor C) subclass, remain largely unknown. Here, we identified a class C encoding gene, TaHsfC3-4, based on our previous omics data and analyzed its biological function in transgenic plants. TaHsfC3-4 encodes a protein containing 274 amino acids and shows the basic characteristics of the HsfC class. Gene expression profiles revealed that TaHsfC3-4 was constitutively expressed in many tissues of wheat and was induced during seed maturation. TaHsfC3-4 could be upregulated by PEG and abscisic acid (ABA), suggesting that this Hsf may be involved in the regulation pathway depending on ABA in drought resistance. Further results represented that TaHsfC3-4 was localized in the nucleus but had no transcriptional activation activity. Notably, overexpression of TaHsfC3-4 in Arabidopsis thaliana pyr1pyl1pyl2pyl4 (pyr1pyl124) quadruple mutant plants complemented the ABA-hyposensitive phenotypes of the quadruple mutant including cotyledon greening, root elongation, seedling growth, and increased tolerance to drought, indicating positive roles of TaHsfC3-4 in the ABA signaling pathway and drought tolerance. Furthermore, we identified TaHsfA2-11 as a TaHsfC3-4-interacting protein by yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) screening. The experimental data show that TaHsfC3-4 can indeed interact with TaHsfA2-11 in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, transgenic Arabidopsis TaHsfA2-11 overexpression lines exhibited enhanced drought tolerance, too. In summary, our study confirmed the role of TaHsfC3-4 in response to drought stress and provided a target locus for marker-assisted selection breeding to improve drought tolerance in wheat.

BackgroundCurrent studies on the establishment of prognostic models for colon cancer with lung metastasis (CCLM) were lacking. This study aimed to construct and validate prediction models of overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) probability in CCLM patients.MethodData on 1,284 patients with CCLM were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Patients were randomly assigned with 7:3 (stratified by survival time) to a development set and a validation set on the basis of computer-calculated random numbers. After screening the predictors by the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and multivariate Cox regression, the suitable predictors were entered into Cox proportional hazard models to build prediction models. Calibration curves, concordance index (C-index), time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to perform the validation of models. Based on model-predicted risk scores, patients were divided into low-risk and high-risk groups. The Kaplan–Meier (K-M) plots and log-rank test were applied to perform survival analysis between the two groups.ResultsBuilding upon the LASSO and multivariate Cox regression, six variables were significantly associated with OS and CSS (i.e., tumor grade, AJCC T stage, AJCC N stage, chemotherapy, CEA, liver metastasis). In development, validation, and expanded testing sets, AUCs and C-indexes of the OS and CSS prediction models were all greater than or near 0.7, which indicated excellent predictability of models. On the whole, the calibration curves coincided with the diagonal in two models. DCA indicated that the models had higher clinical benefit than any single risk factor. Survival analysis results showed that the prognosis was worse in the high-risk group than in the low-risk group, which suggested that the models had significant discrimination for patients with different prognoses.ConclusionAfter verification, our prediction models of CCLM are reliable and can predict the OS and CSS of CCLM patients in the next 1, 3, and 5 years, providing valuable guidance for clinical prognosis estimation and individualized administration of patients with CCLM.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) plus conventional western medicine (CWM) in comparison with CWM against COVID-19.MethodsWe searched eight electronic databases and three trial registers spanning from January 1, 2020 to May 18, 2023. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the effectiveness and safety of CHM plus CWM and CWM against COVID-19 in our study. The Cochrane Risk of Bias tool 2.0 (RoB2) was applied to evaluate the methodological quality of the included RCTs. The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) system was employed to assess the certainty of evidence. Statistical analysis was implemented in R version 4.1.2.ResultsOur study included 50 RCTs involving 11,624 patients. In comparison with sole CWM, CHM plus CWM against COVID-19 significantly enhanced clinical effective rate (RR = 1.18, 95% CI [1.13, 1.22]), improved chest image (RR = 1.19, 95% CI [1.11, 1.28]), inhibited clinical deterioration (RR = 0.45, 95% CI [0.33, 0.60]), lowered mortality (RR = 0.53, 95% CI [0.40, 0.70]), and reduced the total score of TCM syndrome (SMD = −1.24, 95% CI [−1.82, −0.66]). SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid conversion time (MD = −2.66, 95% CI [−3.88, −1.44]), duration of hospitalization (MD = −2.36, 95% CI [−3.89, −0.82]), and clinical symptom (fever, cough, fatigue, and shortness of breath) recovery times were shorter in CHM plus CWM groups than in CWM groups. Further, CHM plus CWM treatment was more conducive for some laboratory indicators returning to normal levels. No statistical difference was found in the incidence of total adverse reactions between the two groups (RR = 0.97, 95% CI [0.88, 1.07]). We assessed the risk of bias for 246 outcomes, and categorized 55 into “low risk”, 151 into “some concerns”, and 40 into “high risk”. Overall, the certainty of the evidence ranged from moderate to very low.ConclusionsPotentially, CHM listed in this study, as an adjunctive therapy, combining with CWM is an effective and safe therapy mode for COVID-19. The current epidemic, population growth, and decreasing arable lands lead to a severe food crisis, which calls for productive and efficient agricultural methods to ensure a sustainable food supply for mankind. Crop monitoring is considered to be a potential solution for the improvement of food production. Current crop monitoring combines agriculture methodologies with other advanced technologies, including sensing technology, geographical information systems (GIS), Internet of Things (IoT), information and communication technology (ICT), robotics, and drone techniques to increase production with low labor cost. The high-throughput plant phenotyping is crucial for crop monitoring on the data acquisition of large-scale crop characteristics. The high-throughput plant phenotyping studies aim to achieve fast and precise large-scale crop monitoring techniques with minimum environmental impact by applying special plant phenotyping platforms. The phenotyping platforms are integrated with various sensors and data communication systems, which can help to achieve automatic data acquisition and transmission. This paper reviews the current high-throughput plant phenotyping development in crop monitoring, including sensors, communication protocols, data management, and plant phenotyping platforms. State-of-art challenges are reviewed and discussed. Also, the paper provides discussions on the current situation, upcoming challenges, and possible future trends for researchers in this field.

In order to improve the transmission efficiency of the rubber CVT and better match the power performance of the engine and the whole vehicle，the bench test of the engine and CVT is carried out，and the curves of starting motor，external characteristics of CVT and influencing factors of CVT are drawn. The results show that，without changing the structure of the CVT，the temperature is the main factor that influence the efficiency of the CVT，and at the age of 55 ℃ CVT maintain a high efficiency. According to the driving force curve drawing CVT external characteristic curve，determine the total transmission ratio for the gear reducer is 12.9，and determine the CVT light left block and the combination of the heavy spring can make the car can quickly reach the highest speed.

Frequent outbreaks of agricultural pests can reduce crop production severely and restrict agricultural production. Therefore, automatic monitoring and precise recognition of crop pests have a high practical value in the process of agricultural planting. In recent years, pest recognition and detection have been rapidly improved with the development of deep learning-based methods. Although certain progress has been made in the research on pest detection and identification technology based on deep learning, there are still many problems in the production application in a field environment. This work presents a pest detector for multi-category dense and tiny pests named the Pest-YOLO. First, the idea of focal loss is introduced into the loss function using weight distribution to improve the attention of hard samples. In this way, the problems of hard samples arose from the uneven distribution of pest populations in a dataset and low discrimination features of small pests are relieved. Next, a non-Intersection over Union bounding box selection and suppression algorithm, the confluence strategy, is used. The confluence strategy can eliminate the errors and omissions of pest detection caused by occlusion, adhesion and unlabeling among tiny dense pest individuals to the greatest extent. The proposed Pest-YOLO model is verified on a large-scale pest image dataset, the Pest24, which includes more than 20k images with over 190k pests labeled by agricultural experts and categorized into 24 classes. Experimental results show that the Pest-YOLO can obtain 69.59% for mAP and 77.71% for mRecall on the 24-class pest dataset, which is 5.32% and 28.12% higher than the benchmark model YOLOv4. Meanwhile, our proposed model is superior to other several state-of-the-art methods, including the SSD, RetinaNet, Faster RCNN, YOLOv3, YOLOv4, YOLOv5s, YOLOv5m, YOLOX, DETR, TOOD, YOLOv3-W, and AF-RCNN detectors. ObjectivesTo identify mechanisms underpinning the complex relationships between influential factors and suicide risk with psychological autopsy data and machine learning method.DesignA case-control study with suicide deaths selected using two-stage stratified cluster sampling method; and 1:1 age-and-gender matched live controls in the same geographic area.SettingDisproportionately high risk of suicide among rural elderly in China.ParticipantsA total of 242 subjects died from suicide and 242 matched live controls, 60 years of age and older.MeasurementsSuicide death was determined based on the ICD-10 codes. Influential factors were measured using validated instruments and commonly accepted variables.ResultsOf the total sample, 270 (55.8%) were male with mean age = 74.2 (SD = 8.2) years old. Four CART models were used to select influential factors using the criteria: areas under the curve (AUC) ≥ 0.8, sensitivity ≥ 0.8, and specificity ≥ 0.8. Each model included a lead predictor plus 8–10 hierarchically nested factors. Depression was the first to be selected in Model 1 as the lead predictor; After depression was excluded, quality of life (QOL) was selected in Model 2; After depression and QOL were excluded, social support was selected in Model 3. Finally, after all 3 lead factors were excluded, marital status was selected in Model 4. In addition, CART demonstrated the significance of several influential factors that would not be associated with suicide if the data were analyzed using the conventional logistic regression.ConclusionAssociations between the key factors and suicide death for Chinese rural elderly are not linear and parallel but hierarchically nested that could not be effectively detected using conventional statistical methods. Findings of this study provide new and compelling evidence supporting tailored suicide prevention interventions at the familial, clinical and community levels.

Currently, chemokines and their receptors, CXCL12-CXCR4 and CCL21-CCR7 axes, are deemed vital factors in the modulation of angiogenesis and are crucial for the growth and development of liver cancer. Tumor-derived DNA can be recognized by immune cells to induce an autoimmune response. In this study, we demonstrated the mechanism of tumor-derived DNA on the CXCL12-CXCR4 and CCL21-CCR7 axes of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells and the regulatory effect of sinomenine hydrochloride. Tumor-derived DNA was separated from HCCLM cell lines. Tumor-derived DNA was transfected into SK-Hep1 cells by Lipofectamine 2000. We found that sinomenine hydrochloride reduced the expression of CXCR4, CXCR12, CCR7, and CCL21 in HCC cells, suppressed the growth and invasion of HCC cells, and increased apoptosis. In contrast to the controls, the protein expressions of CXCR4, CXCL12, CCR7, CCL21, P-ERK1/2, MMP-9, and MMP-2 in SK-Hep1 cells were significantly increased after transfection of tumor-derived DNA, while the increase was reversed by sinobine hydrochloride. Acid sinomenine interferes with tumor-derived DNA and affects ERK/MMP signaling via the CXCL12/CXCR4 axis in HCC cells. CXCR4 siRNA and CCR7 siRNA attenuated tumor-derived DNA activation of ERK1/2/MMP2/9 signaling pathways in HCC cells. CXCR4-oe and CCR7-OE enhance the stimulation of erK1/2/MMP2/9 signaling pathway by tumor-derived DNA in HCC cells. Tumor-derived DNA reduced apoptosis and increased invasion of SK-Hep1 cells by CXCL12-CXCR4 axis and CCL21-CCR7 axis, and sinobine hydrochloride reversed this regulation. These results strongly suggest that tumor-derived DNA can increase the growth and invasion of oncocytes via the upregulation of the expression of CXCL12-CXCR4 and CCL21-CCR7 axis and through ERK1/2/MMP2/9 signaling pathway in HCC cells, and sinobine hydrochloride can inhibit this signaling pathway, thus inhibiting HCC cells. These results provide new potential therapeutic targets for blocking the progression of HCC induced by CXCL12-CXCR4 axis and CCL21-CCR7.

BackgroundPeople who had died by suicide always being associated with negative emotions and even mental disorders. Understanding mechanisms underlying the association between quality of life (QOL), hopelessness, and suicide are of great significance. In this study, we aimed to test a model in which the QOL-suicide relationship was mediated by hopelessness and moderated by impulsivity.MethodsParticipants (N = 484, including 242 suicide deaths and 242 matched controls) were rural residents 60 years of age and older, randomly selected from 12 rural counties in China using a two-stage stratified cluster sampling method. Data were collected with standard psychological autopsy technique from informants (n = 968). The outcome variable was a suicide death. QOL, hopelessness, and impulsivity were assessed using validated scales. The proposed relationships were tested using mediation and moderated mediation models.ResultsOf the total sample, 55.8% were men with a median age of 75.5 years. Results from the moderated mediation analysis indicated that QOL was negatively associated with suicide (beta = −0.141, p < 0.01); this association was mediated by hopelessness (indirect effect: beta =0.578, p < 0.01), accounting for 73% of the total effect. Impulsivity significantly moderated the mediation effect from QOL to hopelessness (beta =0.005, p < 0.01).ConclusionsStudy findings have confirmed the negative association between QOL and suicide with psychological autopsy data, and demonstrated the role of hopelessness in mediating the QOL-suicide relation that is further modified by impulsiveness. These findings depend on our understanding of the suicide epidemiology among the elder in rural China and provide information much needed for suicide prevention.

‘Huangguan’ pear (Pyrus bretschneideri Rehd) fruit is susceptible to cold, characterized by developing peel browning spots (PBS) during cold storage. Additionally, ethylene pretreatment reduces chilling injury (CI) and inhibits PBS occurrence, but the mechanism of CI remains unclear. Here, we deciphered the dynamic transcriptional changes during the PBS occurrence with and without ethylene pretreatment via time-series transcriptome. We found that ethylene suppressed the cold-signaling gene expression, thereby decreasing the cold sensitivity of the ‘Huangguan’ fruit. Moreover, the “Yellow” module closely correlated with PBS occurrence was identified via weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), and this module was related to plant defense via Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis. Local motif enrichment analysis suggested that the “Yellow” module genes were regulated by ERF and WRKY transcription factors. Functional studies demonstrated that PbWRKY31 has a conserved WRKY domain, lacks transactivation activity, and localizes in the nucleus. PbWRKY31-overexpressed Arabidopsis were hypersensitive to cold, with higher expression levels of cold signaling and defense genes, suggesting that PbWRKY31 participates in regulating plant cold sensitivity. Collectively, our findings provide a comprehensive transcriptional overview of PBS occurrence and elucidate the molecular mechanism by which ethylene reduces the cold sensitivity of ‘Huangguan’ fruit as well as the potential role of PbWRKY31 in this process.

Truss-like lightweight materials (TLLMs) with superior mechanical performance and excellent energy absorption capability are extensively used in aerospace and automobile industries. The performance of TLLM was closely related to its meso-structure, but the lack of innovation and variety in the geometric configuration of TLLM’s meso-structure limits the reinforcement effect and strength enhancement. Hence, it is important to thoroughly study the theoretical design method for TLLM’s meso-structure. Inspired by the symmetric feature of TLLM’s meso-structures, the symmetric groups were applied to describe, classify and design TLLM’s meso-structures. First of all, it was found that the representative volume unit (RVU) of TLLM corresponded to point groups that contained the symmetry of TLLM’s meso-structure. Space groups, which consist of point groups and space lattices, could be used to describe the geometric configuration of TLLM’s meso-structures. Then, TLLM’s meso-structures were classified according to different types of point groups. Finally, a description and design method for TLLM’s meso-structure based on the symmetric group theory was proposed. In addition, a novel TLLM’s meso-structure was deduced through the symmetric operations of space group, which could verify the feasibility of the method. Therefore, the present study provides a basis for the design of high-performance TLLMs.

Truss-like lightweight materials (TLMs) have been widely used in aeronautics and astronautics, because of excellent mechanical property and superior energy absorption capability. The design of TLMs’ meso-structures was a critical task to improve its performance. Hence, a structure design method based on the symmetric groups was proposed for TLMs, and a novel hexagonal prism TLM’s meso-structure was deduced by the symmetric and translational operations of the space group P 6 mm . To investigate the performance of the novel TLM, the mechanical analysis model was established. The predictive equations of compression performance was proposed based on Euler–Bernoulli beam theory. The stress distribution of the novel TLM’s meso-structure under compression load was discussed by the finite element analysis method, and its compression and energy absorption properties were investigated. The simulation results were in agreement with the predictive results. In addition, the common FCC and BCC TLMs were discussed using the symmetry group analysis method, and their compression properties were predicted. The results showed that the proposed novel TLM in this study had better compression property than BCC and FCC TLMs at the same relative density.

High temperature has severely affected plant growth and development, resulting in reduced production of crops worldwide, especially wheat. Alternative splicing (AS), a crucial post-transcriptional regulatory mechanism, is involved in the growth and development of eukaryotes and the adaptation to environmental changes. Previous transcriptome data suggested that heat shock transcription factor (Hsf) TaHsfA2-7 may form different transcripts by AS. However, it remains unclear whether this post-transcriptional regulatory mechanism of TaHsfA2-7 is related to thermotolerance in wheat (Triticum aestivum). Here, we identified a novel splice variant, TaHsfA2-7-AS, which was induced by high temperature and played a positive role in thermotolerance regulation in wheat. Moreover, TaHsfA2-7-AS is predicted to encode a small truncated TaHsfA2-7 isoform, retaining only part of the DNA-binding domain (DBD). TaHsfA2-7-AS is constitutively expressed in various tissues of wheat. Notably, the expression level of TaHsfA2-7-AS is significantly up-regulated by heat shock (HS) during flowering and grain-filling stages in wheat. Further studies showed that TaHsfA2-7-AS was localized in the nucleus but lacked transcriptional activation activity. Ectopic expression of TaHsfA2-7-AS in yeast exhibited improved thermotolerance. Compared to non-transgenic plants, overexpression of TaHsfA2-7-AS in Arabidopsis results in enhanced tolerance to heat stress. Simultaneously, we also found that TaHsfA1 is directly involved in the transcriptional regulation of TaHsfA2-7 and TaHsfA2-7-AS. In summary, our findings demonstrate the function of TaHsfA2-7-AS splicing variant in response to heat stress and establish a link between regulatory mechanisms of AS and the improvement of thermotolerance in wheat.

Abstract Background There is a lack of evidence concerning the stressful life events experienced prior to suicide which may be associated with an increased suicide risk among Chinese rural older adults. The aim of this study was to identify the pattern of stressful life events prior to suicide among the older adults in China. Methods Twelve counties were randomly selected using two-stage stratified cluster sampling method. Suicide cases aged 60 years and older (n = 242) were collected from those counties from June 2014 to September 2015. Matched living controls were selected 1:1 with suicide cases by age, gender, and location. Data were collected using face-to-face interviews by a psychological autopsy method. The Life Event Scale for the Elderly was used to measure the stressful life events prior to suicide/interviews. Results Approximately 99.6% of suicide cases and 88.4% of controls experienced at least one stressful life event. The suicide group experienced more long-term stressful life events than recent stressful life events. The top three most frequent stressful life events for the suicide group were being diagnosed with chronic disease, hospitalization, and being diagnosed with terminal illness. More female suicide cases experienced the death of a spouse, while more males experienced hospitalization, diagnosis with terminal illness and family poverty. Experiencing at least one stressful life event, an unstable marital status, physical diseases and mental disorders were shown to increase the risk of suicide. Conclusions Stressful life events were common for the rural older adults, especially long-term stressful life events. The experience of at least one stressful life event can increase suicide risk among this population. More attention should be paid to the rural older adults who experienced more long-term stressful life events and health related life events.

Abstract The call for “Working Together to Build a Community of Shared Future for Mankind” requires us to improve people’s health across the globe, while global health development entails a satisfactory answer to a fundamental question: “What is global health?” To promote research, teaching, policymaking, and practice in global health, we summarize the main points on the definition of global health from the Editorial Board Meeting of Global Health Research and Policy, convened in July 2019 in Wuhan, China. The meeting functioned as a platform for free brainstorming, in-depth discussion, and post-meeting synthesizing. Through the meeting, we have reached a consensus that global health can be considered as a general guiding principle, an organizing framework for thinking and action, a new branch of sciences and specialized discipline in the large family of public health and medicine. The word “global” in global health can be subjective or objective, depending on the context and setting. In addition to dual-, multi-country and global, a project or a study conducted at a local area can be global if it (1) is framed with a global perspective, (2) intends to address an issue with global impact, and/or (3) seeks global solutions to an issue, such as frameworks, strategies, policies, laws, and regulations. In this regard, global health is eventually an extension of “international health” by borrowing related knowledge, theories, technologies and methodologies from public health and medicine. Although global health is a concept that will continue to evolve, our conceptualization through group effort provides, to date, a comprehensive understanding. This report helps to inform individuals in the global health community to advance global health science and practice, and recommend to take advantage of the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China.

Abstract Background Information and communications technology (ICT) has been suggested as an important tool for improving global health education and building research capacity in developing countries. However, the existing curricula do not have adequate emphasis on global health research and training. This study was carried out to examine health sciences postgraduates’ attitudes and practices regarding curriculum for ICT use in global health research and training in China. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among health sciences postgraduates from six universities in southern China, during December 2016 to March 2017. A self-administered online questionnaire was used to collect data through an online survey platform. Data were analyzed using SPSS for Windows 13.0. Results A total of 1065 participants successfully completed the questionnaires. More than 90% of the students have not had any training about ICT, three quarters have not taken an online course, and 31% of the students do not use ICT in their current research. More than 65% thought that, in an ICT research training curriculum, it was important to learn: ICT utilization related knowledge, ICT research methods/resources, knowledge of databases, ways of data use and acquisition, and informatics search methods (ICT users compared to non-users were more likely to agree to these learning components (all p 40%), and QQ (a popular chat tool in China) (30%) as ICT tools in research activities. Background: Few studies have investigated the roles of psychosocial factors such as depressive symptoms and hopelessness on the relationship between pain and suicide with inconsistent results. The study aimed to analyze the impact of pain intensity on suicide death and to estimate the degree to which depressive symptoms, hopelessness, and perceived burden may explain the association in Chinese rural elderly.Methods: Using a 1:1 matched case–control design, we collected data from 242 elderly suicide cases and 242 living community controls by psychological autopsy method in rural China, including sociodemographic characteristics, pain intensity, depression, hopelessness, perceived burden, physical diseases, and social support. Conditional logistic regression was employed to assess the association between pain intensity and completed suicide. Mediation analysis using the KHB method was applied to explore the mediation effects from depressive symptoms, hopelessness, and perceived burden.Results: The result of multivariable logistic regression showed that unemployment [odds ratio (OR) = 5.06, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.76–14.49], higher levels of hopelessness (OR = 7.72, 95% CI: 3.49–17.10), depressive symptom (OR = 15.82, 95% CI: 4.53–55.25), and severe pain (OR = 3.46, 95% CI: 1.31–9.13) were significantly associated with elevated suicide risk in older adults in rural China. Depressive symptoms, hopelessness, and perceived burden significantly mediated 43.71% of the pain–suicide association (p = 0.020), with 17.39% due to depressive symptoms, 17.63% due to hopelessness, and 8.69% due to perceived burden.Conclusions: Regular screening of pain, depressive symptoms, hopelessness, and perceived burden using simple but sensitive questions or scales for older adults with pain is vital for the prevention and early detection of suicide risk in Chinese rural areas. Moreover, the importance of pain management and psychological interventions targeted on depressive symptoms and hopelessness should be emphasized.

Background To evaluate the reliability and validity of the short version six-item Quality of Life Scale (QOLS-6) and the consistency of subject-proxy data in a case-control psychological autopsy study on elderly suicide in rural China. Methods A two-stage stratified cluster sampling method was used to select research sites. We used self-administered questionnaires to collect proxy-based information from informants and subject-based information from living comparisons. Results A total of 242 pairs of suicide cases and living comparisons were selected in our research. Subject-proxy consistency for QOLS-6 was good (Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was 0.688) in living controls. Good internal consistency of QOLS-6 was validated by Cronbach’s α being greater than 0.6 among suicide cases and living comparisons. The mean scores of quality of life were lower among suicide cases than living controls. Quality of life was negatively correlated with depression, loneliness, hopelessness, impulsiveness and stressful life events, while it was positively correlated with activities of daily living and family function. Conclusions QOLS-6 has good reliability and validity, which can be used for assessing quality of life among Chinese rural older adults. It is shorter and easier than any other scale for measuring quality of life and can be used as a screening tool in future studies.

As a kind of sliding bearing, the gas bearing is widely used in high-speed rotating machinery. It realizes energy cleaning in the field of high-speed rotating machinery. In order to solve the problem of reducing the service life of gas bearings due to friction during startup and shutdown, we use micromachining technology to process groove textures with different groove widths on the surface of 0Cr17Ni7Al, a common material for gas bearings. A ball–disc friction contrast test is conducted under dry friction conditions with and without texture. The experiment shows that the lowest average friction coefficient of 0.8 mm texture is σ = 0.745. When the friction radius is 22.5 mm, the wear rate of 1.0 mm texture is the lowest at ω = 3.118 × 10−4mm3/N·mm. However, the maximum friction coefficient reached is σ = 0.898. Under the nanometer scale, the contact between friction pairs is fully analyzed. The influence mechanism of different groove widths, friction impacts and climbing heights on the friction and wear properties of the micromechanical groove texture on the surface of 0Cr17Ni7Al stainless steel is studied at the nano-fractal scale. The effects of different width grooves on the surface texture and tribological properties of the micromachine are studied.

Background The relationship between impulsivity and suicide is inconsistent in different populations. Hence, the relationship between impulsivity and suicide still needs to be studied among the elderly population. The present study intends to explore the relationship between impulsivity and suicide among the rural Chinese elderly. Methods A case-control psychological autopsy study was conducted from February 1, 2014 to December 18, 2015 among rural residents over the age of 60 who died by suicide. The sample consisted of 242 suicides as the case group and 242 living individuals as the control group. Data on demographic characteristics, impulsivity, previous history of suicide attempts, social support, negative life events, and suicidal behavior were collected. Asphalt binder is a complex mixture of dark brown polymers composed of hydrocarbons with generally poor fire resistance. To improve its flame retardancy when used in tunnel asphalt pavements, a new inorganic flame-retardant filler (FR) containing magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide, inorganic phosphate, and melamine salt was explored. Thereafter, limiting oxygen index (LOI) and smoke suppression tests for the flame-retarded asphalt binder (FRA) mastics mixed with FR and styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) copolymer asphalt binder were conducted. Thermogravimetric (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curves for the FRA were correspondingly generated. Based on the TG data, the reaction function g(α), apparent activation energy Ea, and pre-exponential factor A were quantitatively evaluated using kinetic analysis. In addition, a Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) test was utilized to assess the effects of the presence of FR on the chemical composition of the asphalt binder. Dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) tests were also performed to evaluate the rheological behavior of FRA. Results show that the presence of the FR significantly reduced the LOI and improved the smoke suppression during combustion of the asphalt binder mastics. The presence of FR was found to increase the Ea and the complexity of the combustion reaction, thereby improving the flame retardancy of the asphalt binder. FTIR analysis indicated that the presence of FR did not induce any strong chemical reactions to significantly impact or alter the functional groups of the asphalt binder. Furthermore, it was also observed that the rutting parameter and critical failure temperature of FRA increased with the addition of FR due to the stiffening effect of the solid FR particles.

Early blight and late blight are important factors restricting tomato yield. However, it is still a challenge to accurately and objectively detect and segment crop diseases in order to evaluate disease damage. In this paper, the Disease Segmentation Detection Transformer (DS-DETR) is proposed to segment leaf disease spots efficiently based on several improvements to DETR. Additionally, a damage assessment is carried out by the area ratio of the segmented leaves to the disease spots. First, an unsupervised pre-training method was introduced into DETR with the Plant Disease Classification Dataset (PDCD) to solve the problem of the long training epochs and slow convergence speed of DETR. This method can train the Transformer structures in advance to obtain leaf disease features. Loading the pre-training model weight in DS-DETR can speed up the convergence speed of the model. Then, Spatially Modulated Co-Attention (SMCA) was used to assign Gaussian-like spatial weights to the query box of DS-DETR. The different positions in the image are trained using the query boxes with different weights to improve the accuracy of the model. Finally, an improved relative position code was added to the Transformer structure of DS-DETR. Relative position coding promotes the capture of the sequence order of input tokens by the Transformer. The spatial location feature is strengthened by establishing the location relationship between different instances. Based on these improvements, the DS-DETR model was tested on the Tomato leaf Disease Segmentation Dataset (TDSD) constructed by us. The experimental results show that the DS-DETR proposed by us achieved 0.6823 for APmask, which improved by 12.87%, 8.25%, 3.67%, 1.95%, 10.27%, and 9.52% compared with the state-of-the-art: Mask RCNN, BlendMask, CondInst, SOLOv2, ISTR, and DETR, respectively. In addition, the disease grading accuracy reached 0.9640 according to the segmentation results given by our proposed model.

Red-skinned pears are favored by people for their attractive appearance and abundance of anthocyanins. However, the molecular basis of anthocyanin biosynthesis in red pears remains elusive. Here, a comprehensive transcriptome analysis was conducted to explore the potential regulatory mechanism of anthocyanin biosynthesis in ‘Red Zaosu’ pear (Pyrus pyrifolia × Pyrus communis). Gene co-expression analysis and transcription factor mining identified 263 transcription factors, which accounted for 6.59% of the total number of transcription factors in the pear genome in two gene modules that are highly correlated with anthocyanin biosynthesis. Clustering, gene network modeling with STRING-DB, and local motif enrichment analysis (CentriMo) analysis suggested that PpPIF8 may play a role in anthocyanin biosynthesis. Furthermore, eight PIFs were identified in the pear genome, of which only PpPIF8 was rapidly induced by light. Functional studies showed that PpPIF8 localizes in the nucleus and is preferentially expressed in the tissue of higher levels of anthocyanin. The overexpression of PpPIF8 in pear peel and pear calli promotes anthocyanin biosynthesis and upregulates the expression of anthocyanin biosynthesis genes. Yeast-one hybrid and transgenic analyses indicated that PpPIF8 binds to the PpCHS promoter to induce PpCHS expression. The positive effect of PpPIF8 on anthocyanin biosynthesis is different from previously identified negative regulators of PyPIF5 and MdPIF7 in pear and apple. Taken together, our data not only provide a comprehensive view of transcription events during the coloration of pear peel, but also resolved the regulatory role of PpPIF8 in the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway.

A tomographic microscopy system can achieve instantaneous three-dimensional imaging, and this type of microscopy system has been widely used in the study of biological samples; however, existing chromatographic microscopes based on off-axis Fresnel zone plates have degraded image quality due to geometric aberrations such as spherical aberration, coma aberration, and image scattering. This issue hinders the further development of chromatographic microscopy systems. In this paper, we propose a method for the design of an off-axis Fresnel zone plate with the elimination of aberrations based on double exposure point holographic surface interference. The aberration coefficient model of the optical path function was used to solve the optimal recording parameters, and the principle of the aberration elimination tomography microscopic optical path was verified. The simulation and experimental verification were carried out utilizing a Seidel coefficient, average gradient, and signal-to-noise ratio. First, the aberration coefficient model of the optical path function was used to solve the optimal recording parameters. Then, the laminar mi-coroscopy optical system was constructed for the verification of the principle. Finally, the simulation calculation results and the experimental results were verified by comparing the Seidel coefficient, average gradient, and signal-to-noise ratio of the microscopic optical system before and after the aberration elimination. The results show that for the diffractive light at the orders 0 and ±1, the spherical aberration W040 decreases by 62–70%, the coma aberration W131 decreases by 96–98%, the image dispersion W222 decreases by 71–82%, and the field curvature W220 decreases by 96–96%, the average gradient increases by 2.8%, and the signal-to-noise ratio increases by 18%.

Background: The role and effectiveness of primary surgical treatment for sporadic chiasmatic–hypothalamic glioma (CHG) are not clear. The present study was to describe sporadic CHG visual acuity (VA) outcomes after surgery and to analyze the relevant factors affecting VA improvement.Methods: Forty-five pediatric sporadic CHG patients who met the inclusion criteria were included in a retrospective study. All patients received primary intratumor partial resection. Disease characteristics, treatment strategies, complications, and VA outcome were analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify relevant factors of VA improvement. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed to evaluate the predictive accuracy of measurement indexes.Results: There were 77 eyes of 45 children suffering from various levels of VA impairment before surgical treatment, and only 13 eyes had normal vision. Background: Although late-life suicide in rural China is a matter of concern, research is scarce addressing the association between capability of daily living activities, family function, and late-life suicide. We conducted this psychological autopsy study to explore associations between disability in daily living activities, family dysfunction, and late-life suicide in rural China.Methods: Using a 1:1 matched case–control design, we collected data from 242 elderly suicide cases and 242 living community controls in rural China using the psychological autopsy method. We used Structured Clinical Interview for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (SCID), Activities of Daily Living Scale (ADL), and Family Adaptive, Partnership, Growth, Affection and Resolve scale (APGAR) to assess the presence of mental disorders, capability of daily living activities, and family function, respectively.Results: Compared with the living controls, suicide cases presented more severe impairment in capability of daily living activities and poorer family function. After controlling for all other factors, capability of daily living activities and family function remained in the final model. The results of the multivariate analysis also show that the presence of a mental disorder, lower levels of social support, and increased number of life events in the last year were significantly associated with elevated suicide risk.Conclusions: Disability in daily living activities and family dysfunction are associated with elevated risk of late-life suicide in rural China. It is warranted to design programs, including family interventions, peer-support groups, and community programs, to help the rural elderly improve activities of daily living and obtain the social support they need to prevent suicidal behaviors.

Abstract Background There is a lack of evidence for the role of loneliness on suicide using psychological autopsy method, and the validity of proxy informants’ reports on loneliness is not well established. This study aimed to investigate the validity of proxy respondent reports on loneliness, and the reliability and validity of the University of California Los Angeles Loneliness Scale-6 (ULS-6) as used in psychological autopsy method with rural elderly people in China. Methods Two hundred forty-two suicide cases and 242 normal community controls were selected, and the psychological autopsy method was utilized to collect information. Data from proxy respondents of the living controls were compared with data reported by the targets (gold standards). Results Subject-proxy concordance for ULS-6 was fair (ICC = 0.447) in the living controls. The suicide cases were more likely to have a higher score of ULS-6 than the living controls. Additionally, our data supported that ULS-6 had adequate psychometric properties in both suicide and control groups: factor analyses yielded one-factor component solution; Cronbach’s alpha (both > 0.90) demonstrated excellent internal consistency; the Spearman correlation analysis indicated that the ULS-6 score was positively correlated with depression; and negatively correlated with QOL and social support. Conclusions Results support proxy-based data on loneliness in research of suicide in older adults in rural China, and the ULS-6 is a psychometrically sound instrument for measuring loneliness in psychological autopsy studies.

Abstract Background The demand to use information and communications technology (ICT) in education and research has grown fast among researchers and educators working in global health. However, access to ICT resources and the capacity to use them in global health research remains limited among developing country faculty members. In order to address the global health needs and to design an ICT-related training course, we herein explored the Chinese health science faculty members’ perceptions and learning needs for ICT use. Methods Nine focus groups discussions (FGDs) were conducted during December 2015 to March 2016, involving 63 faculty members working in areas of health sciences from six universities in China. All FGDs were audio recorded and analysed thematically. Results The findings suggest that the understandings of ICT were not clear among many researchers; some thought that the concept of ICT was too wide and ambiguous. Most participants were able to cite examples of ICT application in their research and teaching activities. Positive attitudes and high needs of ICT use and training were common among most participants. Recommendations for ICT training included customised training programmes focusing on a specific specialty, maintaining a balance between theories and practical applications, more emphasis on the application of ICT, and skills in finding the required information from the bulk information available in the internet. Suggestions regarding the format and offering of training included short training programmes, flexible timing, lectures with practicum opportunities, and free of charge or with very minimal cost to the participants. Two participants suggested the linking of ICT-related training courses with faculty members’ year-end assessment and promotion. Conclusions This study among health sciences faculty members in China demonstrated a high level of need and interest in learning about ICT use in research and training. The results have important implications for the design and implementation of ICT-related educational programmes in China and other developing countries.

The detection of individual trees in a larch plantation could improve the management efficiency and production prediction. This study introduced a two-stage individual tree crown (ITC) segmentation method for airborne light detection and ranging (LiDAR) point clouds, focusing on larch plantation forests with different stem densities. The two-stage segmentation method consists of the region growing and morphology segmentation, which combines advantages of the region growing characteristics and the detailed morphology structures of tree crowns. The framework comprises five steps: (1) determination of the initial dominant segments using a region growing algorithm, (2) identification of segments to be redefined based on the 2D hull convex area of each segment, (3) establishment and selection of profiles based on the tree structures, (4) determination of the number of trees using the correlation coefficient of residuals between Gaussian fitting and the tree canopy shape described in each profile, and (5) k-means segmentation to obtain the point cloud of a single tree. The accuracy was evaluated in terms of correct matching, recall, precision, and F-score in eight plots with different stem densities. Results showed that the proposed method significantly increased ITC detections compared with that of using only the region growing algorithm, where the correct matching rate increased from 73.5% to 86.1%, and the recall value increased from 0.78 to 0.89.

The mechanical and surface properties of aramid fiber were simultaneously improved by grafting with 1,4-dichlorobutane in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). 1,4-dichlorobutane was penetrated and reacted with heterocyclic an aromatic polyamide backbone along with supercritical CO2 fluids. The surface roughness and surface energy of the modified aramid fiber—which were measured by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the dynamic contact angle (DCA) test, respectively—significantly increased. X-ray diffractometer (XRD) measurements indicated that the crystallinity of the aramid fiber obviously increased after treatment in scCO2 under stretching. A single fiber tensile test showed that the tensile strength of the aramid fiber greatly enhanced after the modification due to its improved crystallinity characteristics. Moreover, the monofilament pull-out tests indicated that the interfacial shear strength (IFSS) test of the aramid fiber/epoxy composite increased by 24.3% from 51.30 to 63.91 MPa after the modification. This research provides a novel method for the simultaneous surface modification and mechanical improvement of aramid fiber properties.

To solve the lateral-directional control problem of the high aspect ratio full-wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) without an aileron and rudder, a control method is proposed that uses the differential thrust of propellers as the control output and the yaw angle as the controlled attitude angle. Meanwhile, simulation analysis and experimental verification are carried out. First, a lateral-direction mathematical model and a differential thrust of propeller model of the full-wing drone are established. The influence of the aerodynamic derivative C Y β on the lateral-direction mode is analyzed. Second, based on nonlinear dynamic inversion (NDI) and active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) theories, a yaw angle controller that uses the differential thrust of propellers as the control output is designed. Finally, the vector field (VF) method is improved to obtain the straight-line trajectory tracking method satisfying different speeds, and the logic of waypoint switching is given. The research shows that C Y β has a great influence on the dutch roll damping of the drone. For the full-wing configuration, it is feasible to use the yaw angle as the controlled attitude angle without considering the roll angle. The simulation and experimental results show that the designed lateral-directional control method for the high aspect ratio full-wing UAV has a good control effect and disturbance rejection ability. Meanwhile, the control method has less parameters to adjust and less calculation, which is very suitable for engineering applications.

Glucocorticoids are the only therapy that has been demonstrated to alter the progress of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), the most common muscular dystrophy in children. However, glucocorticoids disturb skeletal muscle metabolism and hamper myogenesis and muscle regeneration. The mechanisms involved in the glucocorticoid-mediated suppression of myogenic differentiation are not fully understood. Glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) is considered to play a central role as a negative regulator in myogenic differentiation. Here, we showed that glucocorticoid treatment during the first 48 h in differentiation medium decreased the level of phosphorylated Ser9-GSK-3β, an inactive form of GSK-3β, suggesting that glucocorticoids affect GSK-3β activity. We then investigated whether GSK-3β inhibition could regulate glucocorticoid-mediated suppression of myogenic differentiation in vitro. Two methods were employed to inhibit GSK-3β: pharmacological inhibition with LiCl and GSK-3β gene knockdown. We found that both methods resulted in enhanced myotube formation and increased levels of muscle regulatory factors and muscle-specific protein expression. Importantly, GSK-3β inhibition attenuated glucocorticoid-induced suppression of myogenic differentiation. Collectively, these data suggest the involvement of GSK-3β in the glucocorticoid-mediated impairment of myogenic differentiation. Therefore, the inhibition of GSK-3β may be a strategy for preventing glucocorticoid-induced muscle degeneration.

Hepatic ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is an unavoidable consequence of major liver surgery, especially in liver transplantation with bowel congestion, during which endotoxemia is often evident. The inflammatory response aggravated by endotoxin after I/R contributes to liver dysfunction and failure. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the protective effect of butyrate, a naturally occurring four-carbon fatty acid in the body and a dietary component of foods such as cheese and butter, on hepatic injury complicated by enterogenous endotoxin, as well as to examine the underlying mechanisms involved. SD rats were subjected to a total hepatic ischemia for 30 min after pretreatment with either vehicle or butyrate, followed by 6 h and 24 h of reperfusion. Butyrate preconditioning markedly improved hepatic function and histology, as indicated by reduced transaminase levels and ameliorated tissue pathological changes. The inflammatory factors levels, macrophages activation, TLR4 expression, and neutrophil infiltration in live were attenuated by butyrate. Butyrate also maintained the intestinal barrier structures, reversed the aberrant expression of ZO-1, and decreased the endotoxin translocation. We conclude that butyrate inhibition of endotoxin translocation, macrophages activation, inflammatory factors production, and neutrophil infiltration is involved in the alleviation of total hepatic I/R liver injury in rats. This suggests that butyrate should potentially be utilized in liver transplantation.
