The quality of Aztec apples varies significantly at different maturity stages, which can have a significant impact on postharvest storage and sales efficiency. This study focused on Aztec apples at four different maturity stages in Suqian, Jiangsu Province. Firstly, the variations in color (L*, a*, b* values), firmness (FI), soluble solid content (SSC), titratable acidity (TA), moisture content (MC) and dry matter content (DMC) were analyzed using principal component analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA). Simultaneously, visible and near-infrared (Vis-NIR) and near-infrared (NIR) spectral techniques, along with the successive projections algorithm (SPA), competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) and uninformative variable elimination (UVE) algorithms were employed for selecting relevant characteristic variables. Subsequently, partial least squares (PLS) and support vector machine (SVM) were utilized to establish quality prediction models for Aztec apples. The results revealed that SSC, a*, L* and b* had a significant impact on the categorization of Aztec apples at different maturity stages. Notably, wavelength bands in the ranges of 510 to 680 nm, 1170 to 1270 nm and 2300 nm exhibited strong correlations with characteristic attributes. The SPA-PLS and SPA-SVM models demonstrated remarkable performance in predicting the L*, b* and a* values of Aztec apples at different maturity stages, with all relative percent deviation (RPD) values exceeding 3.00. The CARS-PLS model effectively predicted SSC with an RPD of 3.19. However, the prediction accuracy of SPA-PLS models for FI, TA, MC and DMC was comparatively lower, with RPD values of 2.27, 2.21, 2.32 and 2.42, respectively. The results demonstrated that Vis-NIR and NIR spectroscopy methods could predict the quality of Aztec apples at different maturity stages, providing valuable technical references for the harvest management and quality control of Aztec apples.

BackgroundSevere acute pancreatitis (SAP) is characterized by inflammation, with inflammatory immune cells playing a pivotal role in disease progression. This study aims to understand variations in specific immune cell subtypes in SAP, uncover their mechanisms of action, and identify potential biological markers for predicting Acute Pancreatitis (AP) severity.MethodsWe collected peripheral blood from 7 untreated SAP patients and employed single-cell RNA sequencing for the first time to construct a transcriptome atlas of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) in SAP. Integrating SAP transcriptomic data with 6 healthy controls from the GEO database facilitated the analysis of immune cell roles in SAP. We obtained comprehensive transcriptomic datasets from AP samples in the GEO database and identified potential biomarkers associated with AP severity using the “Scissor” tool in single-cell transcriptomic data.ResultsThis study presents the inaugural construction of a peripheral blood single-cell atlas for SAP patients, identifying 20 cell subtypes. Notably, there was a significant decrease in effector T cell subsets and a noteworthy increase in monocytes compared to healthy controls. Moreover, we identified a novel monocyte subpopulation expressing high levels of PPBP and PF4 which was significantly elevated in SAP. The proportion of monocyte subpopulations with high CCL3 expression was also markedly increased compared to healthy controls, as verified by flow cytometry. Additionally, cell communication analysis revealed insights into immune and inflammation-related signaling pathways in SAP patient monocytes. Finally, our findings suggest that the subpopulation with high CCL3 expression, along with upregulated pro-inflammatory genes such as S100A12, IL1B, and CCL3, holds promise as biomarkers for predicting AP severity.ConclusionThis study reveals monocytes’ crucial role in SAP initiation and progression, characterized by distinct pro-inflammatory features intricately linked to AP severity. A monocyte subpopulation with elevated PPBP and CCL3 levels emerges as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target.

Objective: Based on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database, we analyzed the signals of potential adverse events (AEs) of orlistat in the real world to provide a reference for its safe clinical use. Methods: The FAERS database and OpenVigil 2.1 were used to obtain data on adverse events of orlistat from the first quarter of 2004 to the first quarter of 2023, and to analyze the population in which the adverse events occurred. And the signals of their potential adverse events were mined using reporting odds ratio (ROR), proportional reporting ratio (PRR), Bayesian confidence propagation neural network (BCPNN) and empirical Bayesian geometric mean (EBGM). Result: A total of 21,079 reports of adverse events with orlistat as the primary suspected drug were collected in this study. Using four disproportionate analyses, we screened 117 preferred terms (PTs) involving 18 system organ classes (SOCs). We found that the most common adverse events at SOC level for orlistat remained ''gastrointestinal disorders'', while ''metabolism and nutrition disorders'', ''renal and urinary disorders'', ''musculoskeletal and connective tissue disorders'' and ''hepatobiliary disorders'' also ranked high in the number of case reports. In addition, at the PT level, we identified several new signals of adverse events not mentioned in the specification, including ''lipiduria'', ''anal haemorrhage'', ''rectal haemorrhage'', ''haematochezia'', ''sigmoiditis'', ''diverticulitis'' and ''muscle spasms''. Conclusion: Most of the adverse events found in this study are consistent with the results described in the drug label. At the same time, we also found some new adverse events, which require more prospective studies to verify and elucidate their relationship with orlistat.

Abstract Due to the alternating loads on pumping units and the integration of new energy sources, multisource DC microgrid pumping unit well groups experience increased fluctuations in voltage and power as well as superimposed peak and valley values. This work presents a distributed control strategy for pumping unit well groups on a multisource DC microgrid based on the weighted moving average algorithm. A centralized control program is implanted in the RTU of the single-well controller of each pumping unit, and communication with each well is realized via SCADA and multicast communication, resulting in a distributed well group system. The real-time power values of the pumping well group are calculated by grouping the power values, and each group is weighted using the total power fluctuation threshold of the well group as the control target. Then, a weighted moving average algorithm is used to predict the next power value and form a table of predicted real-time power spectra. According to the power values in the community power spectrum table, the inverter frequency is proportionally adjusted downwards to reach the power peak before deceleration; after the power peak is crossed, the frequency is increased in the same way to reach the power valley before acceleration. Finally, the peak and valley power values of the bus system level off and further learn to reach the set impulse; ultimately, a stable impulse is formed. In laboratory testing and field application in the Shengli Oilfield XIN-11 block, the group control software module effectively suppressed the active power peak and valley values and voltage fluctuations of the bus system, the active power fluctuation rate range decreased by more than 70%, and the DC bus voltage fluctuation range decreased by more than 80%; moreover, the active power decreased by approximately 6% without additional hardware costs.

Abstract Background To characterize the current state of emergency medicine (EM) and the requirements for advancing EM clinical practice, education and research in China. Methods An anonymous electronic survey was conducted by Chinese Society of Emergency Medicine during September to October 2021. The survey contained 30 questions divided into 2 sections: the current state of EM development and the requirements for EM growth. Results 722 hospitals were included, of 487 were Level III and 235 were Level II hospitals. We found that after 40 years of development, EM had established a mature disciplinary system and refined sub-specialties including critical care, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, toxicology, disaster and emergency rescue. In Level III hospitals, 70.8% of EDs were standardized training centers for EM residents, but master’s degree program, Doctor Degree program and post-doctoral degree program was approved in only 37.8%, 8.4% and 2.9% of EDs respectively and postgraduate curriculum was available in 1/4 of EDs. Only 8% have national or provincial key laboratories. In addition to advance clinical practice, there was also a high demand to improve teaching and research capacities, mainly focusing on literature review, research design and delivery, paper writing, residency training. Conclusions EM has built a mature discipline system and refined sub-specialties in China. Teaching and research developed parallel with clinical practice. However, there was still a lack of EM master’s and doctoral programs and research capacities need to be improved. More outstanding clinical and academic training should be provided to promote the rapid growth of EM in China.

An innovative chemometric method was developed to exploit visible and near-infrared (Vis-NIR) spectroscopy to guide food formulation to reach the anticipated and constant quality of final products. First, a total of 671 spectral variables related to the puree quality characteristics were identified by spectral variable selection methods. Second, the concentration profiles from multivariate curve resolution-alternative least squares (MCR-ALS) made it possible to reconstruct the identified spectral variables of formulated purees. Partial least square based on the reconstructed Vis-NIR spectral variables was evidenced to predict the final puree quality, such as a* values (RPD = 3.30), total sugars (RPD = 2.64), titratable acidity (RPD = 2.55) and malic acid (RPD = 2.67), based only on the spectral data of composed puree cultivars. These results open the possibility of controlling puree formulation: a multiparameter optimization of the color and taste of final puree products can be obtained using only the Vis-NIR spectral data of single-cultivar purees.

Vaccines has long been the focus of antiviral immunotherapy research. Viral epitopes are thought to be useful biomarkers for immunotherapy (both antibody-based and cellular). In this study, we designed a novel vaccine molecule, the Hantaan virus (HTNV) glycoprotein (GP) tandem Th epitope molecule (named the Gnc molecule), in silico. Subsequently, computer analysis was used to conduct a comprehensive and in-depth study of the various properties of the molecule and its effects as a vaccine molecule in the body. The Gnc molecule was designed for DNA vaccines and optimized with a lysosomal-targeting membrane protein (LAMP) strategy. The effects of GP-derived Th epitopes and multiepitope vaccines were initially verified in animals. Our research has resulted in the design of two vaccines based on effective antiviral immune targets. The effectiveness of molecular therapies has also been preliminarily demonstrated in silico and in laboratory animals, which lays a foundation for the application of a vaccines strategy in the field of antivirals.

Ultra-short baseline (USBL) underwater positioning systems are widely used in marine scientific research and ocean engineering. Angle misalignment is a main error that reduces the accuracy of USBL underwater positioning. The conventional angle-calibration method assumes that the transponder position obtained by USBL positioning is an errorless coefficient matrix. However, errors inevitably exist in the estimation of the transponder’s position via USBL positioning, and the precision varies at different epochs. Ignoring the error in the transponder’s position will significantly reduce the precision of the angle misalignment estimation. In this paper, a new angle-calibration method is proposed for precise USBL underwater positioning. The angle alignment model is derived by treating the transponder’s position obtained by USBL positioning as an observation, and the stochastic model is then established according to the bearing angles. Robust estimation is likewise applied to further improve the precision of the angle misalignment estimation. To verify the performance of the proposed method, a sea experiment was performed. The results show that the new method has high calibration accuracy and robustness. The estimation precision of this method is improved by 0.0457°~0.6896° in heading, 0.0125°~0.8072° in roll, and 0.0077°~0.9436° in pitch, compared with that of the conventional angle alignment method.

In the current implementation process for dredging projects, due to the lack of an accurate understanding of underwater soil characteristics, construction teams often find it difficult to accurately understand the soil condition. Not only does this lead to a reduced dredger operation efficiency, but it may also cause delays to the project’s progress, as well as increasing its cost. Therefore, there is an urgent need to closely integrate soil analysis technology with dredging construction to ensure that projects can be completed efficiently and to a high standard. Therefore, this paper proposes a soil modeling and prediction method based on a three-dimensional point cloud model. The research objective is to propose a new method of soil mass identification with a strong generalization ability and function, which can not only be applied to dredging engineering but can also identify and analyze statistics of land soil and its mass. The accuracy of this method, based on a convergent grid, can reach 95%.

A strong motion seismometer is a kind of inertial sensor, and it can record middle- to high-frequency ground accelerations. The double-integration from acceleration to displacement amplifies errors caused by tilt, rotation, hysteresis, non-linear instrument response, and noise. This leads to long-period, non-physical baseline drifts in the integrated displacements. GNSS enables the direct observation of the ground displacements, with an accuracy of several millimeters to centimeters and a sample rate of 1 Hz to 50 Hz. Combining GNSS and a strong motion seismometer, one can obtain an accurate displacement series. Typically, a Kalman filter is adopted to integrate GNSS displacements and strong motion accelerations, using the empirical values of noise uncertainty. Considering that there are significantly different errors introduced by the above-mentioned tilt, rotation, hysteresis, and non-linear instrument response at different stations or at different times at the same station, it is inappropriate to employ a fixed noise uncertainty for strong motion accelerations. In this paper, we present a Sage–Husa Kalman filter, where the noise uncertainty of strong motion acceleration is adaptively estimated, to integrate GNSS and strong motion acceleration for obtaining the displacement series. The performance of the proposed method was validated by a shake table simulation experiment and the GNSS/strong motion co-located stations collected during the 2023 Mw 7.8 and Mw 7.6 earthquake doublet in southeast Turkey. The experimental results show that the proposed method enhances the adaptability to the variation of strong motion accelerometer noise level and improves the precision of integrated displacement series. The displacement derived from the proposed method was up to 28% more accurate than those from the Kalman filter in the shake table test, and the correlation coefficient with respect to the references arrived at 0.99. The application to the earthquake event shows that the proposed method can capture seismic waveforms at a promotion of 46% and 23% in the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively, compared with the results of the Kalman filter.

Abstract Background The low birth rates and rapid population aging has drawn considerable attention from scholars and policymakers in China and around the world. In 2021, China launched the policy and supportive measures that allow up to 3 children per couple. This study aims to explore the influencing factors of the third-child fertility intention among women aged 20–34 years in China. Methods We draw data from the National Fertility Survey conducted in 2017. The nationally representative survey adopts a stratified, 3-stage, and probabilities proportional to size sampling method. A total of 61,588 valid samples aged 20–34 years old were obtained. Fertility desire and behavior, childbearing and service use, and potential influencing factors of fertility intention such as the history of pregnancy were assessed. Results In general, 5.01% of Chinese women of prime childbearing age had fertility intention for a third child, and the proportion varies by region across mainland China. Individual characteristics such as being ethnic minorities, being rural residents, and having more siblings are significantly positively correlated with the third-child fertility intention, while the intention was significantly lower among women with a higher income or education level, migrant women, and those engaged in the non-agricultural labor force. Women who already had a son had lower fertility intention for a third child. Moreover, it was the perceived acceptable costs of childcare services rather than the actual costs that mattered more for the fertility intention. Conclusions Our study concludes a series of socioeconomic factors, and previous childbearing and childrearing experiences are crucial for women’s fertility intention for a third child. These findings highlight the importance of launching supportive measures in addition to the introduction of the 3-child policy in promoting a fertility-friendly society.

Triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMSs) have demonstrated significant potential in lattice structure design and have been successfully applied across multiple industrial fields. In this work, a novel lattice structure with tunable anisotropic properties is proposed based on two typical TPMS types, and their mechanical performances are studied both experimentally and numerically after being fabricated using a polymer 3D printing process. Initially, adjustments are made to the original TPMS lattice structures to obtain honeycomb lattice structures, which are found to possess significant anisotropy, by utilizing numerical homogenization methods. Based on this, a continuous self-twisting deformation is proposed to change the topology of the honeycomb lattice structures to largely tune the mechanical properties. Quasi-static compression experiments are conducted with different twisting angles, and the results indicate that self-twisting can affect the mechanical properties in specific directions of the structure, and also enhance the energy absorption capacity. Additionally, it mitigates the risk of structural collapse and failure during compression while diminishing structural anisotropy. The proposed self-twisting strategy, based on honeycomb lattice structures, has been proven valuable in advancing the investigation of lattice structures with largely tunable mechanical properties.

Male infertility, age-related changes, and tumors have been increasingly studied in the field of male reproductive health due to the emergence of environmental stressors, declining fertility rates, and aging populations. Numerous studies have demonstrated that the ERK1/2 signaling pathway plays a significant role in male reproduction. The ERK1/2 pathway is associated with several signaling pathways and has a complex interplay that influences the spermatogenic microenvironment, sperm viability, gonadal axis regulation, as well as resistance to testicular aging and tumors. Moreover, the ERK1/2 pathway directly or indirectly regulates testicular somatic cells, which are crucial for maintaining spermatogenesis and microenvironment regulation. Given the critical role of the ERK1/2 signaling pathway in male reproductive health, comprehensive exploration of its multifaceted effects on male reproduction and underlying mechanisms is necessary. This study aims to provide a solid foundation for in-depth research in the field of male reproduction and further enhance the reproductive health of males.

The significant morphological differences and abundant germplasm resources of Chinese indigenous dog breeds can be attributed to the diverse geographical environment, including plateaus, mountains, and a long history of raising dogs. The combination of both natural and artificial selection during the past several thousand years has led to hundreds of dog breeds with distinct morphological traits and environmental adaptations. China is one of the earliest countries to domesticate dogs and there are more than 50 ancient indigenous dog breeds. In this study, the run of homozygosity (ROH) and proportion of the autosomal genome covered by ROHs (FROH) were calculated for 10 dog breeds that are the most representative Chinese indigenous dogs based on 170K SNP microarray. The results of FROH showed that the Chuandong hound dogs (HCSSC) have the highest level of inbreeding among the tested breeds. The inbreeding in HCSSC occurred more recently than the Liangshan dogs (SCLSQ) dogs because of more numbers of long ROHs in HCSSC dogs, and the former also have higher inbreeding degree. In addition, there are significant differences in the inbreeding degree among different subpopulations of the same breed, such as the Thin dogs from Shaanxi and Shandong province. To explore genome-wide selection signatures among different breeds, including coat color, ear shape, and altitude adaptability, we performed genome selection analyses of FST and cross population extended haplotype homozygosity (XP-EHH). For the coat color, the FST analysis between Xiasi dogs (XSGZ) and HCSSC dogs was performed and identified multiple genes involved in coat color, hair follicle, and bone development, including MC1R, KITLG, SOX5, RSPO2, and TBX15. For the plateau adaptability, we performed FST and XP-EHH analyses between dogs from Tibet (Tibetan Mastiffs and Nyingchi dogs) and plain regions (Guangxi Biwei dogs GXBWQ and Guandong Sharpei dogs). The results showed the EPAS1 gene in dogs from Tibet undergo strong selection. Multiple genes identified for selection signals based on different usage of dogs. Furthermore, the results of ear shape analyses showed that MSRB3 was likely to be the main gene causing the drop ear of domestic dogs. Our study provides new insights into further understanding of Chinese indigenous dogs.

Cisplatin is a metal platinum complex commonly used in the field of anti-tumor and one of the most commonly used drugs in combination chemotherapy. However, chemotherapy with Cisplatin induced overexpression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) protein in tumor cells, which could impair the therapeutic effect of chemotherapy on tumor progression. Here, we presented a novel method for the treatment of ovarian cancer with a self-assembly based nano-system. Cisplatin and tolfenamic acid were each linked to linoleic acid to give them the ability to self-assemble into nanoparticles in water. TPNPs had flexible drug ratio adjustability, homogeneous stability, and high drug loading capacity. Compared with Cisplatin, TPNPs could promote cellular uptake and tumor aggregation, co-induce enhanced apoptosis and tumor growth inhibition by inhibiting COX-2 in the mice xenograft model of human ovarian cancer, and reduce systemic toxicity. Therefore, TPNPs is a promising antitumor drug as a kind of self-assembly nano-prodrug with high drug load.

Objective This study aimed to explore the causal effects of physical disability and number of comorbid chronic diseases on depressive symptoms in an elderly Chinese population.Design, setting and analysis Cross-sectional, baseline data were obtained from the China Longitudinal Ageing Social Survey, a stratified, multistage, probabilistic sampling survey conducted in 2014 that covers 28 of 31 provincial areas in China. The causal effects of physical disability and number of comorbid chronic diseases on depressive symptoms were analysed using the conditional average treatment effect method of machine learning. The causal effects model’s adjustment was made for age, gender, residence, marital status, educational level, ethnicity, wealth quantile and other factors.Outcome Assessment of the causal effects of physical disability and number of comorbid chronic diseases on depressive symptoms.Participants 7496 subjects who were 60 years of age or older and who answered the questions on depressive symptoms and other independent variables of interest in a survey conducted in 2014 were included in this study.Results Physical disability and number of comorbid chronic diseases had causal effects on depressive symptoms. Among the subjects who had one or more functional limitations, the probability of depressive symptoms increased by 22% (95% CI 19% to 24%). For the subjects who had one chronic disease and those who had two or more chronic diseases, the possibility of depressive symptoms increased by 13% (95% CI 10% to 15%) and 20% (95% CI 18% to 22%), respectively.Conclusion This study provides evidence that the presence of one or more functional limitations affects the occurrence of depressive symptoms among elderly people. The findings of our study are of value in developing programmes that are designed to identify elderly individuals who have physical disabilities or comorbid chronic diseases to provide early intervention.

Clinical sorafenib treatment could activate C-X-C receptor type 4 (CXCR4)/stromal source factor-1α (SDF-1α) axis to aggravate intra-tumoral hypoxia of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which further leads to progression, invasion, metastasis, and immunosuppression of tumors and in return causes resistance to sorafenib therapy. Therefore, a multi-functional oxygen delivery nanoplatform was rationally constructed based on an oxygen-saturated perfluorohexane (PFH)-cored liposome, with the CXCR4 antagonist LFC131 peptides modifying on the surface to simultaneously deliver sorafenib and the CSF1/CSF1R inhibitor PLX3397 (named PFH@LSLP) for sorafenib-resistant HCC treatment. The PFH@LSLP was developed to overcome sorafenib resistance by synergistic effects of the following 3 roles: 1) the O2-saturated PFH core could alleviate the tumor hypoxia by O2 supply; 2) the LFC131 peptide recognized the hypoxia-related overexpressed CXCR4 and then blocked SDF-1α/CXCR4 axis to re-sensitize the HCC cells to sorafenib; 3) PLX3397 activated the immune responses via inhibiting the CSF1/CSF1R pathway in TAMs, further enhanced CD8+ T cell infiltration to reverse immunosuppression in tumors. Antitumor performance on H22 tumor-bearing mice and HCC patient-derived tumor xenograft (PDX) model showed that PFH@LSLP could overcome sorafenib resistance by synergistic effect of hypoxia attenuation, resistance-related gene regulation, and immune-microenvironment modification.

A highly efficient and versatile method was developed to prepare durable, superhydrophobic surface on various biomass substrates in order to remove organic contaminants from polluted water. This method employed PPy/nanoparticles (TiO2, Ag and SiO2) in combination with HDTMS modification. The coated biomass possessed durable superhydeophobicity with highest WCA of 168.4°, which could collect the oil from oil-water mixtures and water-in-oil emulsion. The collected organic contaminants could also be decomposed by photocatalysis process with TiO2 coated corn stalk. The durable evaluation results proved the outstanding resistance to friction, long-term exposure in environment, high temperature, acidic and basic agents. The method suggested in this work provides a facile and efficient route to synthesize large-scale, durable, and mechanically stable superhydrophobic surface for water pollution control.

In order to remove/collect oils from polluted water, polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles have been loaded onto different substrates (cotton, corn stalk, sawdust, metal, fabric and sponge) by in situ polymerization followed by further hydrophobic modification. A wide range of low surface energy reagent could be used, including cetylamine, dodecanethiol, stearic acid and hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS). Observations showed that the as prepared superhydrophobic materials could effectively remove oil from water-in-oil emulsion and immiscible oil/water mixtures with separation efficiencies above 99.1%. The coated material exhibited outstanding resistance to abrasion, acids, bases, salt, high temperature water and long-term exposure in environment. The coating method suggested in this work provides a facile and efficient route for superhydrophobic material fabrication, which could be practically used for separation of oil/water mixtures under various harsh conditions.

Gastrodin is one of the most important biologically active components of Gastrodia elata, which has many health benefits as a dietary and health food supplement. However, gastrodin measurement traditionally relies on laboratory and sophisticated instruments. This research was aimed at developing a rapid and non-destructive method based on Fourier transform near infrared (FT-NIR) to predict gastrodin content in fresh Gastrodia elata. Auto-ordered predictors selection (autoOPS) and successive projections algorithm (SPA) were applied to select the most informative variables related to gastrodin content. Based on that, partial least squares regression (PLSR) and multiple linear regression (MLR) models were compared. The autoOPS-SPA-MLR model showed the best prediction performances, with the determination coefficient of prediction (Rp2), ratio performance deviation (RPD) and range error ratio (RER) values of 0.9712, 5.83 and 27.65, respectively. Consequently, these results indicated that FT-NIRS technique combined with chemometrics could be an efficient tool to rapidly quantify gastrodin in Gastrodia elata and thus facilitate quality control of Gastrodia elata.

The ultra-short baseline (USBL) positioning system has been widely used for autonomous and remotely operated vehicle (ARV) positioning in marine resource surveying and ocean engineering fields due to its flexible installation and portable operation. Errors related to the sound speed are a critical factor limiting the positioning performance. The conventional strategy adopts a fixed sound velocity profile (SVP) to correct the spatial variation, especially in the vertical direction. However, SVP is actually time-varying, and ignoring this kind of variation will lead to a worse estimation of ARVs’coordinates. In this contribution, we propose a two-step sound speed correction method, where, firstly, the deviation due to the acoustic ray bending effect is corrected by the depth-based ray-tracing policy with the fixed SVP. Then, the temporal variation of SVP is considered, and the fixed SVP is adaptively adjusted according to the in situ sound velocity (SV) measurements provided by the conductivity–temperature–depth (CTD) sensor equipped at the ARV. The proposed method is verified by semi-physical simulation and sea-trail dataset in the South China Sea. When compared to the fixed-SVP method, average positioning accuracy with the resilient SVP be improved by 8%, 21%, and 26% in the east, north, and up directions, respectively. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can efficiently improve the adaptability of sound speed observations and deliver better performance in USBL real-time positioning.

(1) Background and Purpose: Ebola virus (EBOV) is the causative agent of Ebola virus disease (EVD), which causes extremely high mortality and widespread epidemics. The only glycoprotein (GP) on the surface of EBOV particles is the key to mediating viral invasion into host cells. DNA vaccines for EBOV are in development, but their effectiveness is unclear. The lack of immune characteristics resides in antigenic MHC class II reactivity. (2) Methods: We selected MHC-II molecules from four human leukocyte antigen II (HLA-II) superfamilies with 98% population coverage and eight mouse H2-I alleles. IEDB, NetMHCIIpan, SYFPEITHI, and Rankpep were used to screen MHC-II-restricted epitopes with high affinity for EBOV GP. Further immunogenicity and conservation analyses were performed using VaxiJen and BLASTp, respectively. EpiDock was used to simulate molecular docking. Cluster analysis and binding affinity analysis of EBOV GP epitopes and selected MHC-II molecules were performed using data from NetMHCIIpan. The selective GP epitopes were verified by the enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISpot) assay using splenocytes of BALB/c (H2d), C3H, and C57 mice after DNA vaccine pVAX-GPEBO immunization. Subsequently, BALB/c mice were immunized with Protein-GPEBO, plasmid pVAX-GPEBO, and pVAX-LAMP/GPEBO, which encoded EBOV GP. The dominant epitopes of BALB/c (H-2-I-AdEd genotype) mice were verified by the enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISpot) assay. It is also used to evaluate and explore the advantages of pVAX-LAMP/GPEBO and the reasons behind them. (3) Results: Thirty-one HLA-II-restricted and 68 H2-I-restricted selective epitopes were confirmed to have high affinity, immunogenicity, and conservation. Nineteen selective epitopes have cross-species reactivity with good performance in MHC-II molecular docking. The ELISpot results showed that pVAX-GPEBO could induce a cellular immune response to the synthesized selective peptides. The better immunoprotection of the DNA vaccines pVAX-LAMP/GPEBO coincides with the enhancement of the MHC class II response. (4) Conclusions: Promising MHC-II-restricted candidate epitopes of EBOV GP were identified in humans and mice, which is of great significance for the development and evaluation of Ebola vaccines.

Background Along with the development of aging, much attention has been paid to geriatric health issues in China. Sleep disturbance is a common sleep problem endangering older people's health. Objective To systematically assess the prevalence of sleep disturbances in Chinese older people. Methods Studies about sleep disturbance in Chinese elderly were searched in database of CNKI, CQVIP, SinoMed, WanFang Data, PubMed, EmBase, The Cochrane Library, Web of Knowledge and PsycINFO from inception to 31st May, 2021. Two reviewers independently screened literature, extracted data and assessed risk of bias of included studies using the 11 criteria recommended by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Stata 16.0 was used for meta-analysis. Results A total of 91 studies, with a sample of 81 354 cases were included. Meta-analysis showed that the overall prevalence rate of sleep disturbances among Chinese older people was 46.0%〔95%CI (41.7%, 50.4%) 〕. Further analysis indicated that the prevalence of sleep disturbances among men and women was 40.0%〔95%CI (30.9%, 49.2%) 〕and 49.4%〔95%CI (42.8%, 55.9%) 〕, respectively. And it was 35.1%〔95%CI (28.8%, 41.4%) 〕 for the 60-70-year-olds, 46.1%〔95%CI (33.8%, 58.4%) 〕 for the 70-80-year-olds, and 44.4%〔95%CI (32.7%, 56.2%) 〕 for the 80-and-over-year-olds. The sleep disturbance prevalence rate among those living in urban and rural areas was 41.5%〔95%CI (32.8%, 50.2%) 〕and 44.0%〔95%CI (36.4%, 51.7%) 〕, respectively. And it was 46.3%〔95%CI (37.6%, 55.1%) 〕for those with junior high school or lower education level, and 37.9%〔95%CI (26.7%, 49.1%) 〕for those with senior high school or higher education level. The North–South Seismic Belt produces the most frequent strong earthquakes in the Chinese continental region, such as the MS 8.0 Wenchuan earthquake on 12 May 2008 and Ms 7.0 Lushan earthquake on 20 April 2013. This seismicity results in significant hazards. Fault geometry modeling is crucial for analyzing earthquake preparation and trigger mechanisms, simulating and predicting strong earthquakes, inverting fault slip rates, etc. In this study, a novel method for obtaining geometric models of ruptured seismogenic faults over a large area is designed based on datasets from surface fault traces, fault orientations, focal mechanism solutions, and earthquake relocations. This method involves three steps. 1) An initial model of the fault geometry is constructed from the focal mechanism solution data. This initial model is used to select the earthquake relocation data related to the target fault. 2) Next, a fine model of the fault geometry with a higher resolution than that of the initial model is fitted based on the selected earthquake relocation data. 3) The minimum curvature interpolation method (Briggs, 2012) is adopted to build a 3D model of the subsurface fault geometry according to the three-dimensional coordinates of nodes on all profiles of each fault/segment. Based on this method and data collected in the North–South Seismic Belt, the fine morphologies of different faults along 1,573 transverse profiles were fitted, and a 3D model of 263 ruptured seismogenic faults or fault segments in the North–South Seismic Belt was built using the minimum curvature spatial interpolation method. Since the earthquake number decreases with increasing depth, the model uncertainty increases with increasing depth. Different ruptured faults have different degrees of seismicity, so different fault models may have different uncertainties. The overall fitting error of the model is 0.98 km with respect to the interpreted results, from six geophysical exploration profiles.

Abstract Background The prevalence of tooth loss varies across the globe among oldest-old individuals. The presence of fewer than 20 teeth in old age was associated with a decrease in people’s health and quality of life. This paper explored the association between socioeconomics, health-related factors, and tooth loss among the population over the age of 80 in China. Methods The tooth loss status of older Chinese adults was collected with a structured questionnaire from the 8th wave of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS). A total of 6716 individuals aged 80 years and above were included. Logistic regression was used to assess the association between socioeconomic statuses, dietary intake at approximately 60 years old, health-related factors, and tooth loss. Results Of the 6716 individuals aged 80 years and above, the composition of the group with fewer teeth for both men and women was statistically significant in many ways. Multivariate logistic regression analyses show that for men, being older than 90 years and being ADL disabled (adjusted OR: 1.71, 95% CI: 1.01–2.89) are factors that are significantly and consistently associated with a higher risk of having fewer than 20 teeth, while having a higher household income per capita (adjusted OR: 0.56, 95% CI: 0.32–0.99) decreases the risk. For women, an age of above 95 years, brushing teeth less than once per day (adjusted OR: 1.96, 95% CI: 1.26–3.03), consuming sugar some of the time as opposed to less than once per month at approximately 60 years old (adjusted OR = 1.74, 95% CI: 1.15–2.62), and being ADL disabled (adjusted OR: 1.70, 95% CI: 1.04–2.77) are factors that are significantly associated with the risk of having fewer than 20 teeth. Conclusion The analysis suggests that socioeconomic status, dietary intake in early old age, and ADL capacity are associated with the risk of having fewer teeth for the population aged 80 years and above, and the risk factors vary between sexes.

With the increasing demand for diesel in various countries, the ecological pollution caused by the improper use, storage, and accidental leakage of diesel needs to be addressed urgently. As an environmentally friendly and cost-effective method, bioremediation generally uses various microorganisms to remove pollutants from the environment. Here, the strain KJ-1, obtained through an enrichment culture using n-dodecane from oil-contaminated soil near a gas station as the substrate, was identified as Acinetobacter vivianii according to its morphology, biochemistry, and molecular biology. The isolate KJ-1 was able to use diesel as a sole carbon source and more than 40% of diesel was degraded after 12 days of incubation with strain KJ-1 in mineral salts medium. The most suitable diesel concentration and nitrogen source concentrations were 4,140 mg/L and 350–700 mg/L, respectively, for diesel degradation and bacterial growth. The optimal initial pH and temperature for strain KJ-1 growth and diesel degradation were 6.5–8.0 and 20–37°C, respectively. To investigate the diesel-degrading mechanisms of this strain, the complete genome was sequenced and annotated. The complete genome consists of one chromosome with a total length of 3,927,757 base pairs and a G + C content of 41.5%. The genes related to the two-component regulatory system and alkane degradation were analyzed. In addition, two putative alkane monooxygenases were analyzed, and the protein sequences were characterized and compared with other AlkBs in Acinetobacter spp. using sequences downloaded from NCBI. The results demonstrated that A. vivianii KJ-1 may be particularly useful for future bioremediation of diesel-polluted soil.

Recently, attention has been drawn toward brain imaging technology in the medical field, among which MRI plays a vital role in clinical diagnosis and lesion analysis of brain diseases. Different sequences of MR images provide more comprehensive information and help doctors to make accurate clinical diagnoses. However, their costs are particularly high. For many image-to-image synthesis methods in the medical field, supervised learning-based methods require labeled datasets, which are often difficult to obtain. Therefore, we propose an unsupervised learning-based generative adversarial network with adaptive normalization (AN-GAN) for synthesizing T2-weighted MR images from rapidly scanned diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) MR images. In contrast to the existing methods, deep semantic information is extracted from the high-frequency information of original sequence images, which are then added to the feature map in deconvolution layers as a modality mask vector. This image fusion operation results in better feature maps and guides the training of GANs. Furthermore, to better preserve semantic information against common normalization layers, we introduce AN, a conditional normalization layer that modulates the activations using the fused feature map. Experimental results show that our method of synthesizing T2 images has a better perceptual quality and better detail than the other state-of-the-art methods.

Soil salinity is a major constraint that restricts crop productivity worldwide. Lateral roots (LRs) are important for water and nutrient acquisition, therefore understanding the genetic basis of natural variation in lateral root length (LRL) is of great agronomic relevance to improve salt tolerance in cultivated germplasms. Here, using a genome-wide association study, we showed that the genetic variation in ZmSULTR3;4, which encodes a plasma membrane-localized sulfate transporter, is associated with natural variation in maize LRL under salt stress. The transcript of ZmSULTR3;4 was found preferentially in the epidermal and vascular tissues of root and increased by salt stress, supporting its essential role in the LR formation under salt stress. Further candidate gene association analysis showed that DNA polymorphisms in the promoter region differentiate the expression of ZmSULTR3;4 among maize inbred lines that may contribute to the natural variation of LRL under salt stress. Nucleotide diversity and neutrality tests revealed that ZmSULTR3;4 has undergone selection during maize domestication and improvement. Overall, our results revealed a regulatory role of ZmSULTR3;4 in salt regulated LR growth and uncovered favorable alleles of ZmSULTR3;4, providing an important selection target for breeding salt-tolerant maize cultivar.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been known as the second common leading cancer worldwide, as it responds poorly to both chemotherapy and medication. Triptolide (TP), a diterpenoid triepoxide, is a promising treatment agent for its effective anticancer effect on multiple cancers including HCC. However, its clinical application has been limited owing to its severe systemic toxicities, low solubility, and fast elimination in the body. Therefore, to overcome the above obstacles, photo-activatable liposomes (LP) integrated with both photosensitizer Ce6 and chemotherapeutic drug TP (TP/Ce6-LP) was designed in the pursuit of controlled drug release and synergetic photodynamic therapy in HCC therapy. The TP encapsulated in liposomes accumulated to the tumor site due to the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect. Under laser irradiation, the photosensitizer Ce6 generated reactive oxygen species (ROS) and further oxidized the unsaturated phospholipids. In this way, the liposomes were destroyed to release TP. TP/Ce6-LP with NIR laser irradiation (TP/Ce6-LP+L) showed the best anti-tumor effect both in vitro and in vivo on a patient derived tumor xenograft of HCC (PDXHCC). TP/Ce6-LP significantly reduced the side effects of TP. Furthermore, TP/Ce6-LP+L induced apoptosis through a caspase-3/PARP signaling pathway. Overall, TP/Ce6-LP+L is a novel potential treatment option in halting HCC progression with attenuated toxicity.

Abstract Background The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused health concerns worldwide since December 2019. From the beginning of infection, patients will progress through different symptom stages, such as fever, dyspnea or even death. Identifying disease progression and predicting patient outcome at an early stage helps target treatment and resource allocation. However, there is no clear COVID-19 stage definition, and few studies have addressed characterizing COVID-19 progression, making the need for this study evident. Methods We proposed a temporal deep learning method, based on a time-aware long short-term memory (T-LSTM) neural network and used an online open dataset, including blood samples of 485 patients from Wuhan, China, to train the model. Our method can grasp the dynamic relations in irregularly sampled time series, which is ignored by existing works. Specifically, our method predicted the outcome of COVID-19 patients by considering both the biomarkers and the irregular time intervals. Then, we used the patient representations, extracted from T-LSTM units, to subtype the patient stages and describe the disease progression of COVID-19. Results Using our method, the accuracy of the outcome of prediction results was more than 90% at 12 days and 98, 95 and 93% at 3, 6, and 9 days, respectively. Most importantly, we found 4 stages of COVID-19 progression with different patient statuses and mortality risks. We ranked 40 biomarkers related to disease and gave the reference values of them for each stage. Top 5 is Lymph, LDH, hs-CRP, Indirect Bilirubin, Creatinine. Besides, we have found 3 complications - myocardial injury, liver function injury and renal function injury. Predicting which of the 4 stages the patient is currently in can help doctors better assess and cure the patient. Conclusions To combat the COVID-19 epidemic, this paper aims to help clinicians better assess and treat infected patients, provide relevant researchers with potential disease progression patterns, and enable more effective use of medical resources. Our method predicted patient outcomes with high accuracy and identified a four-stage disease progression. We hope that the obtained results and patterns will aid in fighting the disease.

Liposomes have made remarkable achievements as drug delivery vehicles in the clinic. Liposomal products mostly benefited from remote drug loading techniques that succeeded in amphipathic and/or ionizable drugs, but seemed impracticable for nonionizable and poorly water-soluble therapeutic agents, thereby impeding extensive promising drugs to hitchhike liposomal vehicles for disease therapy. In this study, a series of weak acid drug derivatives were designed by a simplistic one step synthesis, which could be remotely loaded into liposomes by pH gradient method. Cabazitaxel (CTX) weak acid derivatives were selected to evaluate regarding its safety profiles, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacokinetics. CTX weak acid derivative liposomes were superior to Jevtana® in terms of safety profiles, including systemic toxicity, hematological toxicity, and potential central nerve toxicity. Specifically, it was demonstrated that liposomes had capacity to weaken potential toxicity of CTX on cortex and hippocampus neurons. Significant advantages of CTX weak acid derivative-loaded liposomes were achieved in prostate cancer and metastatic cancer therapy resulting from higher safety and elevated tolerated doses.

In this work, the potential of a hyperspectral imaging (HSI) system for the detection of black spot disease on winter jujubes infected by Alternaria alternata during postharvest storage was investigated. The HSI images were acquired using two systems in the visible and near-infrared (Vis-NIR, 400–1000 nm) and short-wave infrared (SWIR, 1000–2000 nm) spectral regions. Meanwhile, the change of physical (peel color, weight loss) and chemical parameters (soluble solids content, chlorophyll) and the microstructure of winter jujubes during the pathogenic process were measured. The results showed the spectral reflectance of jujubes in both the Vis-NIR and SWIR wavelength ranges presented an overall downtrend during the infection. Partial least squares discriminant models (PLS-DA) based on the HSI spectra in Vis-NIR and SWIR regions of jujubes both gave satisfactory discrimination accuracy for the disease detection, with classification rates of over 92.31% and 91.03%, respectively. Principal component analysis (PCA) was carried out on the HSI images of jujubes to visualize their infected areas during the pathogenic process. The first principal component of the HSI spectra in the Vis-NIR region could highlight the diseased areas of the infected jujubes. Consequently, Vis-NIR HSI and NIR HSI techniques had the potential to detect the black spot disease on winter jujubes during the postharvest storage, and the Vis-NIR HSI spectral information could visualize the diseased areas of jujubes during the pathogenic process.

Gastric cancer, one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive tract, is devoid of effective treatment owing to its highly invasive ability. Aquaporins (AQPs), transmembrane water channel proteins, has been shown to be involved in the malignancy of gastric cancer. This study aims to investigate the pathophysiological roles of AQP-1 in gastric cancer. We first demonstrated quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis and found up-regulation of AQP-1 in gastric cancer cell lines. Additionally, silence of AQP-1 inhibited cell proliferation via decrease of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and minichromosome maintenance complex component 2 (MCM2). Moreover, migration and invasion of gastric cancer cells were also suppressed by the interference of AQP-1. However, the tumorigenic mechanism of AQP-1 on gastric cancer is yet to be found. We demonstrated western blot analysis and found that knockdown of AQP-1 decreased protein expression of phospho (p)-GRB7 (growth factor receptor-bound protein 7) and led to a remarkable reduction of p-extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) via inactivation of RAS. In general, our findings indicated that AQP-1 facilitates proliferation and invasion of gastric cancer cells via GRB7-mediated ERK and Ras activation, illuminating a novel AQP-1-RAS/ERK molecular axis as regulator in gastric cancer progression and suggesting potential implications in the treatment of gastric cancer.

Abstract This paper is concerned with the finite-time synchronization of coupled networks with time-varying delays. We work without applying the finite-time stability theorem, which is widely used in finite-time synchronization for complex networks or finite-time consensus problems for multi-agent systems. We construct a novel Lyapunov functional and apply some new analytical techniques. Sufficient conditions are obtained to ensure synchronization within a setting time with no Zeno behaviors. The obtained conditions do not contain any uncertain parameter. The controllers are presented based on event-driven strategies, which can significantly reduce the communication consumption and the frequency of the controller updates. And the setting time is related to initial values of the network. Finally, numerical examples are examined to illustrate the effectiveness of the analytical results.

Abstract Background Coronary artery stenosis induces heart diseases including acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Some studies reported the ceramide species are associated with the ACS and major adverse cardia and cerebrovascular events (MACE). However, few studies investigated the association between plasma ceramide levels and the severity of stenosis, together with the onset of diseases. This aim of the present study was to investigate the association betweencertain ceramide species, coronary artery stenosis and acute coronary syndrome. Methods Five hundred fifty-three patients with definite or suspected CAD were recruited and received angiography. Subjects were assigned into 4 groups according to the severity of coronary artery stenosis. The measurements of 4 plasma ceramide species, namely, Cer (d18:1/16:0), Cer (d18:1/18:0), Cer (d18:1/24:1), Cer (d18:1/24:0) were carried out by Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and the ratio of Cer (d18:1/16:0), Cer (d18:1/18:0) and Cer (d18:1/24:1) to Cer (18:1/24:0), respectively, were calculated as index to evaluate the association between plasma ceramides levels and coronary artery stenosis. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to establish the prognostic model for the prediction of ACS risk. Results After the adjustment by multiple clinical risk factors including age, gender, pre-existing myocardial/cerebral infarction, hemoglobin A1c% (HbA1c%), smoking and the diagnosis during index hospitalization, multiple logistic regression analysis showed that the high ratio of Cer (d18:1/24:1) to Cer (d18:1/24:0), female gender, HbA1c%, unstable angina (UAP) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) diagnosis (compared with atherosclerosis) during index hospitalization were associated with more severe coronary artery stenosis. Furthermore, the prognostic model was established after adjustment of risk factors and the area under curve (AUC) of receiver operating characteristics (ROC) for the prognostic model was 0.732 and 95% CI was 0.642–0.822. Conclusion The severity of coronary artery stenosis is associated with high ratio of Cer (d18:1/24:1) to Cer (d18:1/24:0), female gender, HbA1c% and AMI. Although the reported prognostic model showed a good discrimination, further investigation on long term MACE is needed to evaluate the role of ceramide for the prediction of MACE risk.

Abstract Background The aim of the current study is to assess the cross-sectional association of chronic non-communicable diseases (hypertension, diabetes mellitus, arthritis, and cerebrovascular) with depressive symptoms among older adults in China. Methods Data was obtained from the China Longitudinal Ageing Social Survey (CLASS) conducted in 2014. A total of 7505 participants were included. Depressive symptoms status was assessed by 9-item Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) Associations between depressive symptoms and chronic diseases, adjusting for so, demographics and chronic diseases risk factors were assessed by using logistic regression model. Results We found negative associations between depressive symptoms and several socioeconomic factors, including education attainment and economic level. Widowed/divorced/ unmarried individuals are more likely to suffer from depressive symptoms. Hypertension (Odds ratio:1.29 [95%CI:1.16, 1.42]), diabetes (1.41 [95%CI:1.19,1.67]), arthritis (1.72 [1.52, 1.96]), and cerebrovascular disease (1.69 [1.41, 2.02]) were found to be associated with depressive symptoms. Conclusions Most depressive symptoms cases were found to be significantly associated with chronic diseases. Our findings have provided evidence for understanding co-morbid depressive symptoms with chronic diseases, which could help clinicians to evaluate, diagnose and manage depression promptly.

JAK/STAT plays an important role in cytokine signal transduction and it is potentially involved in the proinflammatory response during the early phase of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). However, whether JAK2 activity is upregulated and whether JAK2 inhibition plays a role in the maintenance of pancreatic homeostasis during SAP is incompletely understood. Here we show that JAK2/STAT3 activity is highly elevated in SAP and blockade of JAK2 by AG-490 protects against SAP-induced pancreatic inflammation and injury. Gene expression and ELISA studies showed that JAK2 inhibition altered the cytokine profiles in both the circulation and pancreases. Further analysis revealed that JAK2 inhibition restored the level of cytokines critical for macrophage polarization towards M2 macrophage. Our findings suggest that pharmacological targeting at JAK2/STAT signalling may be an effective choice of therapeutic interventions against SAP.

Ambiguity resolution at Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) network sites is the key step in the whole processing chain of Network Real Time Kinematic (NRTK). An appropriate ambiguity-resolution speed is important, and single-epoch ambiguity resolution has not been realized yet, especially for large-scale CORS. We attempt to realize single-epoch ambiguity resolution for a large-scale CORS network by neglecting tropospheric delay through forming difference between satellites with close mapping functions whether they belong to the same or different GNSSs. As only two frequency bands are shared among GPS, Galileo and BeiDou, the biggest challenge is how to get this single-epoch ambiguity solution for wide-lane combinations of L1 and L5 when the difference is formed between satellites of different GNSSs. The proposed method includes five steps for ambiguity resolution for different combinations: extra wide-lane, wide-lane, inter-GNSS wide-lane, subset narrow-lane and narrow-lane. The single-epoch ambiguity-resolution performance is assessed based on GNSS observations from two long-distance baselines formed with IGS stations, BRUX-REDU and BAUT-LEIJ, separated by distances of approximately 104 km and 151 km, respectively. The numerical results show that the fixing rate of the single-epoch ambiguity resolution can reach more than 90%, so for a large-scale CORS network, single-epoch ambiguity resolution is feasible and can be realized in the future.

Superhydrophobic materials have been widely applied in rapid removal and collection of oils from oil/water mixtures for increasing damage to environment and human beings caused by oil-contaminated wastewater and oil spills. Herein, superhydrophobic materials were fabricated by a novel polypyrrole (PPy)/ZnO coating followed by hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS) modification for versatile oil/water separation with high environmental and excellent reusability. The prepared superhydrophobic surfaces exhibited water contact angle (WCA) greater than 150° and SA less than 5°. The superhydrophobic fabric could be applied for separation of heavy oil or light oil/water mixtures and emulsions with the separation efficiencies above 98%. The coated fabric also realized highly efficient separation with harsh environmental solutions, such as acid, alkali, salt, and hot water. The superhydrophobic fabric still remained, even after 80 cycles of separation and 12 months of storage in air, proving excellent durability. These novel superhydrophobic materials have indicated great development potentials for oil/water separation in practical applications.

The BeiDou global navigation satellite system (BDS-3) has been officially providing a real-time precise point positioning (PPP) augmentation service, known as the PPP-B2b service, since 2020. Decimeter-level positioning accuracy is expected to be achieved based on the PPP-B2b service. It shows great potential for global navigation satellite system (GNSS) real-time applications, including, for example, vehicle positioning on land. However, the application of the PPP-B2b service is still full of challenges in the urban environment because of GNSS signal blockage. The inertial navigation system (INS) is a popular technology which can provide continuous positions under GNSS challenging scenarios. In this study, we constructed a BDS-3 PPP-B2b/INS loosely coupled integration system for vehicle positioning and evaluated its performance through two automotive experiments. In the first experiment, four periods of 30 s GNSS outages were simulated to evaluate the performance of PPP-B2b/INS loosely coupled integration during GNSS outages. During the simulated GNSS outages, PPP-B2b positioning did not work. Nevertheless, PPP-B2b/INS loosely coupled integration provided continues solution through INS mechanization. The averaged positioning errors at the last epoch of outages were 300.6/498.0/41.0 cm for PPP-B2b/MEMS-IMU and 18.6/21.8/6.1 cm for PPP-B2b/Tactical-IMU loosely coupled integration, in the east, north and up directions, respectively. In the second experiment, we drove the land vehicle in a complex urban environment for 15 min. During this period, two GNSS signal interruptions occurred due to the occlusion of bridges, lasting 15 s and 5 s, respectively. The results show that the improvement of positioning accuracy in the east, north, and up components were 64.1%, 77.8%, and 73.8% respectively for PPP-B2b/MEMS-IMU loosely coupled integration, and 63.9%, 79.5%, and 74.4% respectively for PPP-B2b/Tactical-IMU loosely coupled integration, as compared to the positioning accuracy of PPP-B2b only.

Background: There is a paucity of mechanistic information on the DNA methylation and particulate matter (PM) exposure. This study aimed to investigate the association of PM and its component with DNA methylation, and the roles of DNA methyltransferase (DNMTs). Methods: There were 240 high-exposed, 318 low-exposed and 210 non-exposed participants in this study. Individual concentrations of PM, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and metals were identified by the monitoring data in their workplaces. Urinary 1-OHP and metals were determined as exposure markers. The global DNA methylation (% 5mC) and the mRNA expression of DNMT1, DNMT3A and DNMT3B were measured. We used mediation analysis to evaluate the role of DNMTs expression on DNA methylation alteration induced by PAHs and metals components. Results: The decreasing trend of % 5mC was associated with increment of PM exposure in all subjects. We found that one IQR increase in total PAHs (3.82 μg/m3) and urinary 1-OHP (1.06 μmol/mol creatinine) were associated with a separate 6.08% and 7.26% decrease in % 5mC (P = 0.009, P

The network real-time kinematic (RTK) technique uses continuously operating reference stations (CORS) within a geographic area to model the distance dependent errors, allowing users in the area to solve ambiguities. A key step in network RTK is to fix ambiguities between multiple reference stations. When a new satellite rises or when maintenance happens, many unknown parameters are involved in the mathematical model, and traditional methods take some time to estimate the integer ambiguities reliably. The purpose of this study is the single-epoch ambiguity resolution on small-scale CORS network with inter-station distance of around 50 km. A new differencing scheme is developed to explore the full potential of multi-frequency Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). In this scheme, a differencing operation is formed between satellites with the closest mapping functions. With the new differencing scheme, tropospheric error can be mostly neglected after the correction, as well as the double-differencing operation. Numerical tests based on two baselines of 49 km and 35 km show that the success rate of ambiguity resolution can reach more than 90%. The single-epoch ambiguity resolution for reference stations brings many benefits to the network RTK service, for example, the instantaneous recovery after maintenance or when a new satellite rises.

Traditional coseismic displacement retrieval generally uses real-time kinematic (RTK) and precise point positioning (PPP) services. However, both RTK and real-time PPP need a network link to transmit the corrected data. Although the network link may be interrupted when an earthquake happens, the PPP-B2b service broadcasted by geostationary orbit (GEO) satellites will not be affected. Its service range mainly covers China and the surrounding areas. In this research, the PPP method with PPP-B2b service based on constrained coordinates is proposed and overcomes the limitation of the network link and long convergence time. First, the accuracy of orbits and clock offsets for the PPP-B2b service is evaluated and compared with real-time service (RTS). Then, the simulated experiments are carried out using the PPP method with PPP-B2b service based on constrained coordinates, which tests the accuracy by calculating the coordinate displacement of the measurement station. The results show that the accuracy of PPP-B2b orbits in the radial direction is within 0.1 m. Moreover, regarding the accuracy of clock offsets, the PPP-B2b service is no more than 3.5 cm. This validates the feasibility of replacing RTS products with PPP-B2b. In the 15 min simulated experiments, the root mean square (RMS) of horizontal and vertical directions is maintained within 3 cm.

Mitochondria are a novel and promising therapeutic target for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of a lot of human diseases such as cancer, metabolic diseases and neurodegenerative disease. Owing to the mitochondrial special bilayer structure and highly negative potential nature, therapeutic molecules have multiple difficulties in reaching mitochondria. To overcome multiple barriers for targeting mitochondria, the researchers developed various pharmaceutical preparations such as liposomes, polymeric nanoparticles and inorganic nanoparticles modified by mitochondriotropic moieties like dequalinium (DQA), triphenylphosphonium (TPP), mitochondrial penetrating peptides (MPPs) and mitochondrial protein import machinery that allow specific targeting. The targeted formulations exhibited enhanced pharmacological effect and better therapeutic effect than their untargeted counterpart both in vitro and in vivo. Nanocarriers may be used for bio-therapeutic delivery into specific mitochondria that possess a great potential treatment of mitochondria related diseases.

On 31 July 2020, the Beidou global navigation satellite system (BDS-3) was officially announced as being commissioned. In addition to offering global positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services, BDS-3 also provides precise point positioning (PPP) augmentation services. The satellite orbit correction, clock correction and code bias correction of BDS-3 and other global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) are broadcast by the BDS-3 geostationary earth orbit (GEO) satellites through the PPP-B2b signal. The PPP-B2b service is available for users in China and the surrounding area. In this study, an initial assessment of the PPP-B2b service is presented, with collected 3-day PPP-B2b messages. Based on broadcast ephemeris and PPP-B2b messages, the precise satellite orbits and clock offsets can be recovered. This precision is evaluated with the precise ephemeris from the GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam (GFZ) analysis center as references. The results indicate that the accuracy of BDS-3 satellite orbits in the direction of radial, along-track, and cross-track is 0.138, 0.131, and 0.145 m, respectively, and for GPS a corresponding accuracy of 0.104, 0.160, and 0.134 m, respectively, could be obtained. The precision of clock offsets can reach a level of several centimeters for both GPS and BDS-3. Both the performance of static PPP and kinematic PPP are evaluated using the observations from four international GNSS monitoring assessment service (iGMAS) stations. Regarding static PPP, the average convergence time is 17.7 min to achieve a horizontal positioning accuracy of better than 0.3 m, and a vertical positioning accuracy of better than 0.6 m. The average positioning accuracy in the direction of east, north, and up-directions are 2.4, 1.6, and 2.3 cm. As to kinematic PPP, the average RMS values of positioning errors in the direction of east, north, and up are 8.1 cm, 3.6 cm, and 8.0 cm after full convergence.

Abstract Background Very little literature has explored how mental disability in China is connected with inequalities in social and environmental contexts. In the study described herein, we determine whether social-context inequalities were associated with mental disability in China from 1987 to 2006. Methods Data were derived from national representative population-based data from the 1987 and 2006 China National Sample Survey on Disability. Both surveys used multistage, stratified random cluster sampling, with a probability proportionate to size, to derive nationally representative samples. A multilevel logistic regression model was applied to estimate the effects of province-specific contextual characteristics on men and women. We also examined the association with mental disability risk stratified by selected covariates. Study populations were (N = 698,810) in 1987 and (N = 1,260,947) in 2006. Result Most of the province-level variables in the 1987 and 2006 surveys were unrelated to mental disability risks in either men or women after controlling for individual characteristics. The age-adjusted prevalence of mental disability nearly doubled among men and women from 1987 to 2006. The effects of the province-specific prevalence of agricultural, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery activities and the percentage of the population age 65 and over significantly lowered the risk of mental disability among women in 1987, by 48 and 32%, respectively. Moreover, the number of health professionals modified the association with per capita gross domestic product (GDP) among women but only in 1987. Conclusion To face the challenges of mental disability and interprovincial inequality, the Chinese government should adjust its strategies not only for health-care systems but also to correct for inequalities in interprovincial development; this action may help prevent mental disability.
