The utilization of perovskite films as the top subcell to form a perovskite–silicon tandem solar cell has emerged as an attractive approach to achieve higher power conversion efficiency (PCE) that could surpass the Shockley–Queisser limit for single silicon junction. Despite these efforts, precisely understanding and predicting the underlying mechanism necessary for obtaining higher PCE remains a challenging task. In particular, the absorption due to back electrode reflection during calculations has often been neglected, resulting in an underestimation when comparing theoretical calculations to experimental conditions. In this study, we conduct a comprehensive investigation of perovskite–silicon tandem solar cells with considering the back electrode reflection to study the detailed influence on film quality of perovskite films, where a detailed analysis of multiple factors such as bulk and interface defects, doping levels, and carrier mobility from (Cs, FA)Pb(I, Br)3 has been conducted to unveil their effects on device performance. Our results revealed that lower bulk/interface defect concentrations and higher carrier mobility are critical factors contributing to the best device performance, where the highest PCE would reach up to 37.40%. Further comparison with experimental results also confirms the importance of employing effective methods to reduce surface/interface trap densities in order to enhance overall performance. These findings offer valuable theoretical insights for the guidance of experimental designs of perovskite–silicon tandem solar cells.

Syringin, a phenylpropanoid glycoside, is widely distributed in various plants, such as Acanthopanax senticosus (Rupr. et Maxim.) Harms, Syringa reticulata (BL) Hara var. mandshurica (Maxim.) Hara, and Ilex rotunda Thumb. It serves as the main ingredient in numerous listed medicines, health products, and foods with immunomodulatory, anti-tumor, antihyperglycemic, and antihyperlipidemic effects. This review aims to systematically summarize syringin, including its physicochemical properties, plant sources, extraction and separation methods, total synthesis approaches, pharmacological activities, drug safety profiles, and preparations and applications. It will also cover the pharmacokinetics of syringin, followed by suggestions for future application prospects. The information on syringin was obtained from internationally recognized scientific databases through the Internet (PubMed, CNKI, Google Scholar, Baidu Scholar, Web of Science, Medline Plus, ACS Elsevier, and Flora of China) and libraries. Syringin, extraction and separation, pharmacological activities, preparations and applications, and pharmacokinetics were chosen as the keywords. According to statistics, syringin can be found in 23 families more than 60 genera, and over 100 species of plants. As a key component in many Chinese herbal medicines, syringin holds significant research value due to its unique sinapyl alcohol structure. Its diverse pharmacological effects include immunomodulatory activity, tumor suppression, hypoglycemic action, and hypolipidemic effects. Additionally, it has been shown to provide neuroprotection, liver protection, radiation protection, cardioprotection, and bone protection. Related preparations such as Aidi injection, compound cantharidin capsule, and Tanreqing injection have been widely used in clinical settings. Other studies on syringin such as extraction and isolation, total synthesis, safety profile assessment, and pharmacokinetics have also made progress. It is crucial for medical research to deeply explore its mechanism of action, especially regarding immunity and tumor therapy. Meanwhile, more robust support is needed to improve the utilization of plant resources and to develop extraction means adapted to the needs of industrial biochemistry to further promote economic development while protecting people’s health.

Background and objectivesAcute mountain sickness (AMS) is a pathology with different symptoms in which the organism is not adapted to the environment that occurs under the special environment of high altitude. Its main mechanism is the organism’s tissue damage caused by acute hypobaric hypoxia. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory focuses on the holistic concept. TCM has made remarkable achievements in the treatment of many mountain sicknesses. This review outlines the pathogenesis of AMS in modern and traditional medicine, the progress of animal models of AMS, and summarizes the therapeutic effects of TCM on AMS.MethodsUsing the keywords “traditional Chinese medicine,” “herbal medicine,” “acute mountain sickness,” “high-altitude pulmonary edema,” “high-altitude cerebral edema,” “acute hypobaric hypoxia,” and “high-altitude,” all relevant TCM literature published up to November 2023 were collected from Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases, and the key information was analyzed.ResultsWe systematically summarised the effects of acute hypobaric hypoxia on the tissues of the organism, the study of the methodology for the establishment of an animal model of AMS, and retrieved 18 proprietary Chinese medicines for the clinical treatment of AMS. The therapeutic principle of medicines is mainly invigorating qi, activating blood and removing stasis. The components of botanical drugs mainly include salidroside, ginsenoside Rg1, and tetrahydrocurcumin. The mechanism of action of TCM in the treatment of AMS is mainly through the regulation of HIF-1α/NF-κB signaling pathway, inhibition of inflammatory response and oxidative stress, and enhancement of energy metabolism.ConclusionThe main pathogenesis of AMS is unclear. Still, TCM formulas and components have been used to treat AMS through multifaceted interventions, such as compound danshen drip pills, Huangqi Baihe granules, salidroside, and ginsenoside Rg1. These components generally exert anti-AMS pharmacological effects by inhibiting the expression of VEGF, concentration of MDA and pro-inflammatory factors, down-regulating NF-κB/NLRP3 pathway, and promoting SOD and Na + -K + -ATPase activities, which attenuates acute hypobaric hypoxia-induced tissue injury. This review comprehensively analyses the application of TCM in AMS and makes suggestions for more in-depth studies in the future, aiming to provide some ideas and insights for subsequent studies.

To reduce turn-off losses ( $E_{\mathrm {OFF}}$ ) of power devices, a lateral insulated gate bipolar transistor structure with a float p-drift and blocking junction (FPBJ-LIGBT) is proposed and investigated. The blocking junction in the proposed device is formed by embedding a p-drift between the highly doped carrier storage layer and n-drift. Thereby, not only low voltage drop ( $V_{\mathrm {ON}}$ ) is $\cdot $ achieved, but also the breakdown-voltage is not-affected. At the low current on-state, due to extra auxiliary BJTs, the snapback phenomenon of FPBJ-LIGBT is eliminated. At the high current on-state, thanks to working at the conventional LIGBT (C-LIGBT) mode, the FPBJ-LIGBT obtains low $V_{\mathrm {ON}}$ . During turn-off transient, due to auxiliary hole extraction of float p-drift and rapidly established E-field of blocking junction, the $V_{\mathrm {ON}}$ - $E_{\mathrm {off}}$ tradeoff relationship of FPBJ-LIGBT is improved. The simulation results show that, compared with the float p-pillar and reduced surface field (FPR) LIGBT and C-LIGBT, the $E_{\mathrm {OFF}}$ of the FPBJ-LIGBT are reduced by 35% and 30% at $I_{\mathrm {CE}} \; = 100$ A/cm2, respectively. Furthermore, under short-circuit condition, the heat distribution of drift region is improved, so the short circuit capability of FPBJ-LIGBT is improved 66.1% and 62.3% at $V_{\mathrm {CE}} \; = 200$ V compare with C-LIGBT and FPR-LIGBT, respectively.

BackgroundPlateau environment may pose a serious impact on the physiological and psychological stress of people stationed on a plateau, especially for those engaged in military training and occupational activities. There is an urgent need to find drugs to prevent and treat injuries caused by high-altitude environment. ObjectiveTo analyze the current status, hotspots, and future trends of domestic and international research in the field of prevention and treatment of high-altitude disease (HAD) by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and provide references for scientific research. MethodsWeb of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) were searched for literature on TCM and HAD published from inception to 2022. Excel, CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and RStudio softwares were used to conduct visual analysis on the number of publications, types of publications, journals, authors, research institutions, and keywords. ResultsA total of 501 publications were evaluated in the present study, including 443 Chinese publications and 58 English publications. The annual number of publications showed a rising trend. MA Huiping was the leading author in number of publications in Chinese (37 publications), and ZHANG Yi and MENG Xianli were the leading authors in the number of publications in English (both 8 publications), respectively. The institutions with the most publications in Chinese were The 940th Hospital of Joint Logistics Support Force of Chinese People's Liberation Army and Lanzhou General Hospital of Lanzhou Military Region (both 32 publications), and the institution with the most publications in English was Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (8 publications), respectively. The Chinese and English journals with the largest number of publications were the Journal of High Altitude Medicine (39 publications) and the Journal of Ethnopharmacology (10 publications), respectively. The most highly cited Chinese and English literature included Effects of rhodiola on the free radical metabolism and serum creatine kinase after exercise at plateau (61 citations) and Anti-hypoxic activity at simulated high altitude was isolated in petroleum ether extract of Saussurea involucrate (68 citations) , respectively. The most frequent keywords in the Chinese and English literature were high altitude polycythemia and oxidative stress, respectively. The keyword time zone and emergence maps showed that the research hotspots in this field shifted from prevention and treatment of HAD to animal experiments, and then to mechanisms of action, in which oxidative stress, hypoxic injury, inflammation, and apoptosis were the main focuses. ConclusionThe research of TCM against HAD is identified from early clinical observation to associations between clinical outcome variation and pharmacological mechanisms, and further to applying multi-omics techniques to explore the physical basis of TCM efficacy and mechanisms of action with focuses like TCM formula and single herb active ingredients, so as to elaborate potential scientific connotation of TCM against HAD.

Background and objectives: Autophagy is a cellular process where damaged organelles or unwanted proteins are packaged into a double-membrane structure and transported to lysosomes for degradation. Autophagy plays a regulatory role in various hematologic malignancies, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML). However, there are few bibliometric studies on the role of autophagy in AML. The purpose of this study is to clarify the role of autophagy in acute myeloid leukemia through bibliometric analysis.Methods: The literature on autophagy and AML research from 2003 to 2023 was searched in Web of Science Core Collection, and bibliometric tools such as VOSviewer 1.6.18, Cite Space (6.1.R3), RStudio (R package bibliometrix), and Scimago Graphica were used to understand the current status and hotspots of autophagy and AML research. The study conducted an analysis of various dimensions including the quantity of publications, countries, institutions, journals, authors, co-references, keywords, and to predict future development trends in this field by drawing relevant visualization maps.Results: A total of 343 articles were obtained, published in 169 journals, written by 2,323 authors from 295 institutions in 43 countries. The journals with the most publications were Blood and Oncotarget. China had the most publications, and Chongqing Medical University and Sun Yat-sen University had the most publications. The author with the highest number of publications was Tschan, Mario P. The main types of research included clinical research, in vitro experiments, in vivo experiments, public database information, and reviews, and the forms of therapeutic effects mainly focused on genetic regulation, traditional Chinese medicine combination, autophagy inhibitors, and drug targets. The research hotspots of autophagy and AML in the past 17 years have focused on genetic regulation, autophagy inhibition, and targeted drugs. Chemotherapy resistance and mitochondrial autophagy will be the forefront of research.Conclusion: The gradual increase in the literature on autophagy and AML research and the decline after 2022 could be a result of authors focusing more on the type of research and the quality of the literature. The current research hotspots are mainly genetic regulation, autophagy inhibition, and autophagy-related targeted drugs. In future, autophagy will remain the focus of the AML field, with research trends likely to focus more on AML chemotherapy resistance and mitochondrial autophagy.

Introduction: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, progressive disease. The commonly used drugs for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis can only delay the damage of lung function but cannot prolong the life of patients. Atractylodin (ATR), a kind of herbal medicine that has been proven to protect anti-inflammation and attenuate acute lung injury, was investigated to determine whether it could provide a new idea for the treatment of IPF by reducing the inflammatory reaction and collagen formation in the process of pulmonary fibrosis. Methods: In vivo experiments, mice were divided into 6 groups, normal group, model, drug group (10 mg/kg, 30 mg/kg, 90 mg/kg) and positive control group (pirfenidone). Mice were given BLM through trachea, and after 24 h, normal saline, different concentrations of atractylodin and pirfenidone were given respectively. On 7 days, 14 days and 21 days, the weight, lung function, alveolar lavage fluid and lung tissue were tested. In vitro experiments to investigate the effect of atractylodin on fibroses, NIH3T3 cells were induced by TGF-β1 to detect the formation of cellular collagen and the phosphorylation level of Smad2/3 at different time points after their fibrosis. Results: The results showed that atractylodin could alleviate the lung function damage (FVC, FEV100, Tidal volume, tissue elastance) caused by BLM, reduce the inflammatory factors (IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α), neutrophils and macrophage infiltration in the alveolar lavage fluid, as well as the formation and deposition of collagen (fibronectin, α-SMA, ColA1). In vitro studies have demonstrated that atractylodin can alleviate TGF-β1-induced pulmonary fibrosis by inhibiting the TGF-β1/Smad2/3 pathway. Conclusion: Atractylodin can alleviate the lung function damage and attenuate pulmonary fibrosis induced by BLM through inhibiting the TGF-β1/Smad2/3 pathway. This may provide new ideas for the treatment of IPF.

Hetian sheep is a breed of sheep unique to the Hetian area of Xinjiang whose wool is used for producing blankets. Individual differences and hair follicle density are the key factors affecting wool production. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the Hetian sheep having different wool densities to statistically analyze the wool traits and hair follicle parameters. Furthermore, the transcriptome sequencing analysis was performed on the skins with different wool densities. The results showed that wool quantity and total hair follicle density of the high wool density sheep was significantly higher than low wool density sheep. The sheepskin with high wool density was found to grow more and finer wool than sheepskin with low wool density. A total of 1,452 differentially expressed genes were screened from the two sets of samples, including 754 upregulated and 698 downregulated genes. The differentially expressed genes were involved in the TGF-β/BMP and MAPK signaling pathways related to hair growth. Eleven differentially expressed genes belonging to the KAPs and KIFs might affect the fineness of the wool. The key genes, like the TNF, MAP2K2, INHBA, FST, PTPN11, MAP3K7, KIT, and BMPR1A, were found to probably affect the growth and density of the wool. The qPCR verified eight genes related to the MAPK pathway whose gene expression trends were consistent with the transcriptome sequencing results. This study furnishes valuable resources for enhancing the quality and production of wool in the Hetian sheep.

Arid ecosystems have exhibited greening trends in recent decades. There is no consensus on how underlying surface changes influence streamflow across vegetation gradients. We investigated this issue for the four typical arid mountain basins using a 30-year runoff database and the Budyko framework to quantify the contributions of climate and underlying surface changes to streamflow variations during summer periods. Results showed that in the poor vegetated basins, i.e., Heizi Basin and Kuche Basin, the underlying surface change has increased summer streamflow by 14.01 and 35.67 mm, respectively; climate contributed only −7.32 and 1.86 mm to summer streamflow changes, respectively. Comparatively, in the well-vegetated basins, i.e., Huangshui Basin and Kaidu Basin, climate change dominated summer streamflow variations by increasing 21.50 and 24.65 mm, respectively; the underlying surface change only increased summer streamflow by 3.72 and 1.56 mm, respectively. Additionally, the decomposition results were extended to monthly scale (from June to September) to reveal the effects of climate and underlying surface changes on monthly streamflow. This study deepens our knowledge of runoff responses, which can provide important references to support water resources management in other regions that receive water from mountains.

The CXC chemokines belong to a family which includes 17 different CXC members. Accumulating evidence suggests that CXC chemokines regulate tumor cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis in various types of cancers by influencing the tumor microenvironment. The different expression profiles and specific function of each CXC chemokine in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) are not yet clarified. In our work, we analyzed the altered expression, interaction network, and clinical data of CXC chemokines in patients with HNSCC by using the following: the Oncomine dataset, cBioPortal, Metascape, String analysis, GEPIA, and the Kaplan–Meier plotter. The transcriptional level analysis suggested that the mRNA levels of CXCL1, CXCL2, CXCL3, CXCL5, CXCL6, CXCL8, CXCL9, CXCL10, CXCL11, and CXCL13 increased in HNSCC tissue samples when compared to the control tissue samples. The expression levels of CXCL9, CXCL10, CXCL11, CXCL12, and CXCL14 were associated with various tumor stages in HNSCC. Clinical data analysis showed that high transcription levels of CXCL2, CXCL3, and CXCL12, were linked with low relapse-free survival (RFS) in HNSCC patients. On the other hand, high CXCL14 levels predicted high RFS outcomes in HNSCC patients. Meanwhile, increased gene transcription levels of CXCL9, CXCL10, CXCL13, CXCL14, and CXCL17 were associated with a higher overall survival (OS) advantage in HNSCC patients, while high levels of CXCL1, and CXCL8 were associated with poor OS in all HNSCC patients. This study implied that CXCL1, CXCL2, CXCL3, CXCL8, and CXCL12 could be used as prognosis markers to identify low survival rate subgroups of patients with HNSCC as well as be potential suitable therapeutic targets for HNSCC patients. Additionally, CXCL9, CXCL10, CXCL13, CXCL14, and CXCL17 could be used as functional prognosis biomarkers to identify better survival rate subgroups of patients with HNSCC.

In this paper, to address the low transmission efficiency problem caused by large magnetic leakage and insufficient antideviation performance, an integrated symmetrical coil (ISC) structure is proposed. The ISC structure eliminates the need for an external active shielding coil to counteract the leaked magnetic field, and enhances anti-offset performance by utilizing an integrated coil. Additionally, a deep learning-based method for optimizing the coil structure is employed to determine the optimal parameters. The theoretical simulation is validated using Maxwell software, and based on this, the design and parameters of the ferrite structure are adjusted to improve the magnetic shielding effect and transmission efficiency of the coil. Subsequently, a 2 kW prototype experiment is conducted to validate the findings. Results indicate that when the ISC structure is offset by 200 mm in the X-direction, the research demonstrates that the coupling coefficient fluctuation remains below 5%, achieving a transmission efficiency of up to 96.37%. Furthermore, the magnetic leakage is significantly reduced to below 27 µT at 800 mm on both sides of the door in the X-direction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Computer-aided drug design (CADD) is a drug design technique for computing ligand-receptor interactions and is involved in various stages of drug development. To better grasp the frontiers and hotspots of CADD, we conducted a review analysis through bibliometrics. Methods: A systematic review of studies published between 2000 and 20 July 2023 was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines. Literature on CADD was selected from the Web of Science Core Collection. General information, publications, output trends, countries/regions, institutions, journals, keywords, and influential authors were visually analyzed using software such as Excel, VOSviewer, RStudio, and CiteSpace. Results: A total of 2031 publications were included. These publications primarily originated from 99 countries or regions led by the U.S. and China. Among the contributors, MacKerell AD had the highest number of articles and the greatest influence. The Journal of Medicinal Chemistry was the most cited journal, whereas the Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling had the highest number of publications. Conclusions: Influential authors in the field were identified. Current research shows active collaboration between countries, institutions, and companies. CADD technologies such as homology modeling, pharmacophore modeling, quantitative conformational relationships, molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulation, binding free energy prediction, and high-throughput virtual screening can effectively improve the efficiency of new drug discovery. Artificial intelligence-assisted drug design and screening based on CADD represent key topics that will influence future development. Sustainable management of water-energy-food (WEF) nexus remains an urgent challenge, as interactions between WEF and community sensitivity and reservoir operation in water system are often neglected. This paper aims to provide a new approach for modeling WEF nexus by incorporating community sensitivity and reservoirs operation into the system. The co-evolution behaviors of the nexus across water, energy, food and society (WEFS) were simulated by the system dynamic model. The reservoirs operation was simulated to determine water supply for energy and food systems by the Interactive River-Aquifer Simulation water resources allocations model. Shortage rates for water, energy and food resulted from the simulations were used to qualify their impacts on WEFS nexus through environmental awareness (EA) in society system. Community sensitivity indicated by EA can adjust the co-evolution behaviors of WEFS nexus through feedback loops. The proposed approach was applied to the mid-lower reaches of Hanjiang river basin in China as a case study. Results show that EA accumulation is mainly from shortages of water and energy, and the available water and energy are the vital resources to sustain WEFS nexus. Feedback driven by EA effectively keeps the system from collapsing and contributes to the concordant development of WEFS nexus. Water resources allocation can remarkably ensure water supply through reservoirs operation, decreasing water shortage rate from 16.60 % to 7.53 %. The resource constraining the WEFS nexus is transferred from water to energy. This paper therefore contributes to the understanding of interactions across WEFS system and helps the efficiency improving of resources management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
