Abstract Background Health-related quality of life is a multi-dimensional concept that involves individual’s perceived physical and mental health, social relationships, and environment. Family members are the primary caregivers of people living with schizophrenia in China, the quality of life of caregiver of people living with schizophrenia is generally poorer, which may indirectly affect the quality of life of the people with schizophrenia. Methods We conducted a comprehensive survey on quality of life in caregivers of people living with schizophrenia based on the Schizophrenia-specific cohort in the Less-developed Multi-ethnic Region of Southwest China to validate the accessibility and effectiveness of the schizophrenia family care model at the family level, caregivers of people living with schizophrenia were selected as participants in Baoshan City, Yunnan Province from September 2022 to March 2023, quality of life, family burden of disease, sociodemographic and behavioral information of participants were collected. Results Domain scores for physical, psychological, social relationships, and environment of quality of life were 13.50 ± 2.61, 12.67 ± 2.40, 13.64 ± 2.32, and 12.46 ± 1.76 respectively. In our study, we found that gender, age, education level, personal monthly income, history of smoking and alcohol consumption, subjective sleep quality, relation to the patient, degree of self-care and the number of relapses in patient all influence 1 to 4 domains of quality of life for caregivers, stratified analysis was conducted to minimize the effect of gender on the results, we still found that history of smoking could positively predict the score of psychological domain and history of alcohol consumption could positively predict the score of social relationships domain. Canonical correlation analysis showed that the ‘impact on family interaction’ in family burden of disease was most closely related to quality of life. Conclusion Building harmonious family relationships can help improve the quality of life for caregivers of People living with schizophrenia.

The control of nanostructures is crucial for enhancing the thermoelectric properties of materials. In this work, the grain growth and phase transformation of different nano-sized titanium dioxide (TiO2) powders were investigated during heat treatment and spark plasma sintering. First, the thermal behaviors of TiO2 powders with different particle sizes during heat treatment, such as grain growth, phase transformation, and adsorption properties, were studied. The results showed that the phase transformation of 7 nm anatase TiO2 occurred more easily, and the rutile phase content increased with increasing heat treatment temperature. The grain growth of 7 nm anatase TiO2 occurred at low temperature (i.e., 873 K), even the grain size increased by 13-fold at 1123 K (i.e., the phase transformation temperature). Thermogravimetry results suggested that the 7 nm anatase TiO2 powder had a greater adsorption characteristic owing to its large specific surface area. Moreover, TiO2 compacts with and without graphite were fabricated using spark plasma sintering. The results indicated that a lower sintering temperature was beneficial for maintaining the nanostructure, whereas the addition of graphite powder promoted grain growth. Furthermore, the thermal conductivity was reduced owing to the nanostructure, and the phonon thermal conductivity accounted for a dominant proportion of the total thermal conductivity. Consequently, the lowest thermal conductivity was 1.1 Wm−1K−1 at 973 K for the nanostructured compact sintered at 1073 K, which is approximately 50% lower than that of the microstructured compact sintered at 1273 K.

BackgroundThe China-Myanmar border area is considered a hot spot of active HIV-1 recombination in Southeast Asia. To better understand the characteristics of HIV-1 transmission in this area, a cross-sectional HIV-1 molecular epidemiological survey was conducted in Baoshan Prefecture of Yunnan Province.MethodsIn total, 708 newly reported HIV-1 cases in Baoshan Prefecture from 2019 to 2020 were included in this study. HIV-1 gag, pol and env genes were sequenced, and the spatial and demographic distributions of HIV-1 genotypes were analyzed. The characteristics of HIV-1 transmission were investigated using the HIV-1 molecular network method.ResultsIn the 497 samples with genotyping results, 19 HIV-1 genotypes were found, with URFs being the predominant strains (30.2%, 150/497). The main circulating HIV-1 strains were mostly distributed in the northern area of Baoshan. URFs were more likely identified in Burmese individuals, intravenous drug users and those younger than 50 years old. CRF08_BC was more likely detected in farmers and those of Han ethnicity, CRF01_AE in the young and those of Han ethnicity, and CRF07_BC in the subpopulation with junior middle school education and higher. Moreover, CRF118_BC and CRF64_BC were more likely found in the subpopulation aged ≥40 years and ≥50 years, respectively. Among 480 individuals with pol sequence detection, 179 (37.3%) were grouped into 78 clusters, with Baoshan natives being more likely to be in the network. The proportion of the linked individuals showed significant differences when stratified by the regional origin, marital status, age and county of case reporting. In the molecular network, recent infections were more likely to occur among nonfarmers and individuals aged below 30 years.ConclusionsHIV-1 genetics has become complex in Baoshan. HIV-1 molecular network analysis provided transmission characteristics in the local area, and these findings provided information to prioritize transmission-reduction interventions.

The lotus leaf is a raw material commonly used in slimming herbal products, but the deep processing technology is insufficient. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) fermentation is an effective method to improve the efficacy of plant materials. In this study, ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography–high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC–HR-MS) was used to explore the differential metabolites of a lotus leaf aqueous extract before and after fermentation. Information about the metabolites in the water extract of lotus leaves before and after fermentation was collected in positive- and negative-ion modes, and the metabolites identified before and after fermentation were screened by multivariate statistical analysis. A total of 91 different metabolites were obtained. They included flavonoids, alkaloids, phenylpropanoids, organic acids and derivatives, terpenoids, fatty acids and fatty acyls, phenols, amino acid derivatives and others. Compared with the metabolites’ levels before fermentation, the relative contents of 68 metabolites were upregulated after fermentation, and the relative contents of 23 metabolites were downregulated. A Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis identified 25 metabolic pathways, of which flavone and flavonol biosynthesis, citrate cycle and flavonoid biosynthesis were the main metabolic pathways. The results of this study can provide a basis for further research and the development of products containing lotus leaves fermented by LAB.

Principal stress rotation (PSR) is an important feature for describing the stress status of marine sediments subject to cyclic loading. In this study, a one-way coupled numerical model that combines the fluid model (for wave−current interactions) and the soil model (including the effect of PSR) was established. Then, the proposed model was incorporated into the finite element analysis procedure DIANA-SWANDYNE II with PSR effects incorporated and further validated by the experimental data available in the literature. Finally, the impact of PSR on the pore-water pressures and the resultant seabed liquefaction were investigated using the numerical model, and it was found that PSR had a significant influence on the seabed response to combined wave and current loading.

A wearable device system was proposed in the present work to address the problem of facial emotion recognition disorders. The proposed system could comprehensively analyze the user’s own stress status, emotions of people around, and the surrounding environment. The system consists of a multi-dimensional physiological signals acquisition module, an image acquisition and transmission module, a user interface of the user mobile terminal, and a cloud database for data storage. Moreover, a deep learning based multi-model physiological signal pressure recognition algorithm and a facial emotion recognition algorithm were designed and implemented in the system. Some publicly available data sets were used to test the two algorithms, and the experiment results showed that the two algorithms could well realize the expected functions of the system.

The aim of this study was to explore the effects of bamboo vinegar powder on growth performance, diarrhea situation and mRNA expression levels of cytokines i.e., interleukin-10 (IL-10), interleukin-22 (IL-22), and interleukin-25 (IL-25) in immune organs of weaned piglets, and to accumulate theoretical data for the application of bamboo vinegar powder in weaned piglet production. Forty-five crossbred (Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire, all male) weaned piglets with similar body weight (6.74 ± 0.17 kg) at 31 days of age were randomly assigned to 5 treatments with 3 replicates per treatment and 3 piglets in each replicate. The five treatments were as follows: CON (a basal diet), ANT (the basal diet + 0.12% antibiotics), BV1 (the basal diet + 0.1% bamboo vinegar powder), BV5 (the basal diet + 0.5% bamboo vinegar powder), BV10 (the basal diet + 1.0% bamboo vinegar powder). This experiment lasted 35 days. The growth performance and diarrhea situation were recorded.
