5. Computational Understandings of the Cation Configuration Dependent Redox Activities and Oxygen Dimerizations in Li$_{1.22}$Ni$_{0.22}$Mn$_{0.56}$O$_2$ Cathode

Abstract

Understanding the lattice oxygen dimerization is quite essential for the optimal design for the Li-rich Mn-based cathode materials. In this work, based on the density functional theory (DFT) calculations, a Ni-honeycomb Li-Ni-Mn cation configuration for Li$_{1.22}$Ni$_{0.22}$Mn$_{0.56}$O$_2$ cathode was carefully proposed and examined, which can coexist with the well-known Li-honeycomb structure in the experimentally synthesized Li$_{1.2}$Ni$_{0.2}$Mn$_{0.6}$O$_2$ samples. Li-Ni-Mn cation configurations have significant impacts on oxygen redox activities and oxygen dimerizations in the delithiated Li$_x$Ni$_{0.22}$Mn$_{0.56}$O$_2$. There is no necessary consistency between the high lattice oxygen redox activity and easy oxygen dimerization, such as the Li-honeycomb structures showing higher redox activities and higher activation energy barriers to prohibit oxygen dimerizations than Ni-honeycomb structures. Avoiding the Ni-honeycomb structures with more favorable lattice oxygen dimerization and making full use of the Li-honeycomb structures with better redox activities is important to optimally design the high-performance Li-rich Mn-based cathode materials.

Abstract

Olivine-structured LiFexMn1–xPO4cathodes exhibiting higher redox potentials than their layer oxide counterparts have been utilized in commercial lithium-ion batteries, but the origin of the systematical shifts of the redox potential of transition metal couples with the variation of the Fe–Mn molar ratio is not clear, at least on the electronic scale. In the current work, we carried out experiments and theoretical calculations to study the molecular orbital characteristics of metal–ligand and determined the origin of transition metal redox potential shifts in LiFe1–xMnxPO4cathodes on the electronic scale. The systematic shifts of redox potential of Fe3+/Fe2+and Mn3+/Mn2+couples in LiFe1–xMnxPO4cathodes are not only because of the decreased energies of eg* antibonding orbitals with regard to the enlarged metal–ligand atomic distances but also due to almost the same slopes of the eg* antibonding orbital energies as a function of atomic distance. This chemistry picture of the metal–ligand atomic distance-dependent egbonding/eg* antibonding splitting provides a new perspective to understand the redox potential variations of the electrode upon element substitution.

Abstract

Central bank digital currency (CBDC) has been the global hot issue in financial and money filed, and is expected to serve as the core digital infrastructure in the future. The environmental impact of CBDC is essential to sustainable development, and it remains debates to scholars, entrepreneurs, and policymakers. This article aims in exploring how CBDC in China affects green finance and sustainable development practically through an empirical investigation on CBDC pilot program. The results suggest that CBDC significantly promotes the issuing of green bonds. Specifically, CBDC increases green bonds issuing more in manufacturing industries, and in state-owned enterprises. Moreover, CBDC is found to decrease SO2 emission, NOx emission, Smoke emission, and improve green land ratio, which is beneficial to sustainable development. Our findings offer a preliminary exposition about the environmental impact of CBDC. We argue that, CBDC is useful to accelerate green finance and hence advances sustainable development, which needs future robust empirical examination. 50. Can Digital Finance Improve Corporate Environmental Performance? Evidence from Heavy Polluting Listed Companies in China.

Abstract

In the context of the digital transformation of China's financial system and the synergistic growth of its economic environment, this research explores the impact of digital finance development on the environmental performance of enterprises. Through empirical analysis of data gathered from A-share heavy polluters from 2011 to 2020, our findings show that digital finance effectively improves the environmental performance of heavy polluters. The conclusions remain robust after controlling for endogeneity issues and running a series of robustness tests. The mechanism test reveals that the effects of financing and innovation are important channels through which digital finance influences industrial environmental performance. Furthermore, heterogeneity analysis shows that the beneficial influence of digital finance on the environmental performance of firms is enhanced when firms are smaller, have non-state ownership, are located in East China, and have a lower level of financial development. These findings expand upon the factors that influence corporate environmental performance and provide empirical evidence that heavy-polluting companies should fully grasp the opportunities of digital finance development and improve their environmental performance in order to achieve higher-quality development.
