The pathogen Pseudomonas syringae, responsible for a variety of diseases, poses a considerable threat to global crop yields. Emerging biocontrol strategies employ antagonistic microorganisms, utilizing phyllosphere microecology and systemic resistance to combat this disease. However, the interactions between phyllosphere microbial dynamics and the activation of the plant defense system remain poorly understood. Here we show significant alterations in phyllosphere microbiota structure and plant gene expression following the application of biocontrol agents. We reveal enhanced collaboration and integration of Sphingomonas and Methylobacterium within the microbial co-occurrence network. Notably, Sphingomonas inhibits P. syringae by disrupting pathogen chemotaxis and virulence. Additionally, both Sphingomonas and Methylobacterium activate plant defenses by upregulating pathogenesis-related gene expression through abscisic acid, ethylene, jasmonate acid, and salicylic acid signaling pathways. Our results highlighted that biocontrol agents promote plant health, from reconstructing beneficial microbial consortia to enhancing plant immunity. The findings enrich our comprehension of the synergistic interplays between phyllosphere microbiota and plant immunity, offering potential enhancements in biocontrol efficacy for crop protection.

Specific protein 1 (Sp1) is central to regulating transcription factor activity and cell signaling pathways. Sp1 is highly associated with the poor prognosis of various cancers; it is considered a non-oncogene addiction gene. The function of Sp1 is complex and contributes to regulating extensive transcriptional activity, apart from maintaining basal transcription. Sp1 activity and stability are affected by post-translational modifications (PTMs), including phosphorylation, ubiquitination, acetylation, glycosylation, and SUMOylation. These modifications help to determine genetic programs that alter the Sp1 structure in different cells and increase or decrease its transcriptional activity and DNA binding stability in response to pathophysiological stimuli. Investigating the PTMs of Sp1 will contribute to a deeper understanding of the mechanism underlying the cell signaling pathway regulating Sp1 stability and the regulatory mechanism by which Sp1 affects cancer progression. Furthermore, it will facilitate the development of new drug targets and biomarkers, thereby elucidating considerable implications in the prevention and treatment of cancer.

This is an essay in the field of ceramics and composites. With the rapid development of the new energy vehicle industry, the production of power lithium-ion batteries has increased dramatically. However, due to the short service life of power Li-ion batteries and their imminent mass retirement, it is necessary to effectively manage power Li-ion batteries in a resourceful manner. This paper first introduces the main components of power lithium-ion batteries and clarifies the stepwise utilization and pre-treatment process before their cathode materials are recycled. It focuses on an overview of the thermal, wet and biological recycling technologies for used power lithium-ion battery cathode materials, and presents the opportunities and challenges faced by biological recycling in the resourceful disposal of used power lithium-ion battery cathode materials. Our results can provide a certain reference for the green resource-based recycling of power lithium-ion batteries and promote the healthy development of the new energy vehicle industry.

When water pipelines undergo scenarios such as valve closure or leakage, they often operate in a gas-liquid two-phase flow state, which can easily cause abnormal pressure fluctuations, exacerbating the destructiveness of water hammer and affecting the safe operation of the pipeline. To study the problem of abnormal fluctuations in complex water pipelines, this paper establishes a transient flow model for gas-containing pipelines, considering unsteady friction, and solves it using the discrete gas cavity model (DGCM). It also studies the influence of factors such as valve closing time, initial flow rate, gas content rate, leakage location, and leakage amount on the end-of-valve pressure. Furthermore, it locates the leakage position using a genetic algorithm-backpropagation neural network (GA-BP neural network). The results show that increasing the valve closing time, increasing the gas content rate, decreasing the initial flow rate, and increasing the leakage amount all reduce the pressure peak inside the pipeline. The model constructed using the GA-BP neural network effectively predicts the leakage location with a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 9.26%. The research results provide a reference for studies related to the safety protection of water conveyance projects.

ABSTRACTThe contamination of the plant phyllosphere with antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), caused by application of antibiotics, is a significant environmental issue in agricultural management. Alternatively, biocontrol agents are environmentally friendly and have attracted a lot of interest. However, the influence of biocontrol agents on the phyllosphere resistome remains unknown. In this study, we applied biocontrol agents to control the wildfire disease in the Solanaceae crops and investigated their effects on the resistome and the pathogen in the phyllosphere by using metagenomics. A total of 250 ARGs were detected from 15 samples, which showed a variation in distribution across treatments of biocontrol agents (BA), BA with Mg2+ (T1), BA with Mn2+ (T2), and kasugamycin (T3) and nontreated (CK). The results showed that the abundance of ARGs under the treatment of BA-Mg2+ was lower than that in the CK group. The abundance of cphA3 (carbapenem resistance), PME-1 (carbapenem resistance), tcr3 (tetracycline antibiotic resistance), and AAC (3)-VIIIa (aminoglycoside antibiotic resistance) in BA-Mg2+ was significantly higher than that in BA-Mn2+ (P < 0.05). The abundance of cphA3, PME_1, and tcr3 was significantly negatively related to the abundance of the phyllosphere pathogen Pseudomonas syringae (P < 0.05). We also found that the upstream and downstream regions of cphA3 were relatively conserved, in which rpl, rpm, and rps gene families were identified in most sequences (92%). The Ka/Ks of cphA3 was 0 in all observed sequences, indicating that under the action of purifying selection, nonsynonymous substitutions are often gradually eliminated in the population. Overall, this study clarifies the effect of biocontrol agents with Mg2+ on the distribution of the phyllosphere resistome and provides evolutionary insights into the biocontrol process.IMPORTANCEOur study applied metagenomics analysis to examine the impact of biocontrol agents (BAs) on the phyllosphere resistome and the pathogen. Irregular use of antibiotics has led to the escalating dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in the environment. The majority of BA research has focused on the effect of monospecies on the plant disease control process, the role of the compound BA with nutrition elements in the phyllosphere disease, and the resistome is still unknown. We believe BAs are eco-friendly alternatives for antibiotics to combat the transfer of ARGs. Our results revealed that BA-Mg2+ had a lower relative abundance of ARGs compared to the CK group, and the phyllosphere pathogen Pseudomonas syringae was negatively related to three specific ARGs, cphA3, PME-1, and tcr3. These three genes also present different Ka/Ks. We believe that the identification of the distribution and evolution modes of ARGs further elucidates the ecological role and facilitates the development of BAs, which will attract general interest in this field.

Purpose: Constructing a machine learning model based on transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) combined with contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) to predict preoperative regional lymph node metastasis (RLNM) of rectal cancer and provide new references for decision-making. Materials and methods: 233 patients with rectal cancer were enrolled and underwent TRUS and CEUS prior to surgery. Clinicopathological and ultrasound data were collected to analyze the correlation of RLNM status, clinical features and ultrasound parameters. A 75% training set and 25% test set were utilized to construct seven machine learning algorithms. The DeLong test was used to assess the model's diagnostic performance, then chose the best one to predict RLNM of rectal cancer. Results: The diagnostic performance was most dependent on the following: MMT difference (36), length (30), location (29), AUC ratio (27), and PI ratio (24). The prediction accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, precision, and F1 score range of KNN, Bayes, MLP, LR, SVM, RF, and LightGBM were (0.553–0.857), (0.000–0.935), (0.600–1.000), (0.557–0.952), and (0.617–0.852), respectively. The LightGBM model exhibited the optimal accuracy (0.857) and F1 score (0.852). The AUC for machine learning analytics were (0.517–0.941, 95% CI: 0.380–0.986). The LightGBM model exhibited the highest AUC (0.941, 95% CI: 0.843–0.986), though no statistic significant showed in comparison with the SVM, LR, RF, and MLP models (P > 0.05), it was significantly higher than that of the KNN and Bayes models (P

Heavy metal contamination from coal mining calls for advanced bioremediation, i.e., using sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) technology. Yet, the interaction of SRB with native soil microbiota during metal sequestration, especially in the presence of plants, remains ambiguous. In this study, we assessed the metal sequestration capabilities, ecological network interactions, and enzymatic functions in soils treated with a predominant SRB consortium, mainly Desulfovibrio (14 OTUs, 42.15%) and Desulfobulbus (7 OTUs, 42.27%), alongside Acacia dealbata (AD) and Pisum sativum (PS) plants. The SRB consortium notably enhanced the immobilization of metals such as Zn, Cu, As, and Pb in soil, with the conversion of metals to residual forms rising from 23.47 to 75.98%. Plant inclusion introduced variability, potentially due to changes in root exudates under metal stress. While AD flourished, PS demonstrated significant enhancement in conjunction with SRB, despite initial challenges. Comprehensive microbial analyses revealed the pivotal role of SRB in influencing microbial networking, underpinning critical ecological links. This interplay between plants and SRB not only enhanced microbial diversity but also enriched soil nutrients. Further, enzymatic assessments, highlighting enzymes like NADH:ubiquinone reductase and non-specific serine/threonine protein kinase, reinforced contribution of SRB to energy metabolism and environmental resilience of the entire soil microbial community. Overall, this research underscores the potential of SRB-driven bioremediation in revitalizing soils affected by coal mining.

Ultra high voltage direct current (UHVDC) system is the key support of power grid, which has an important impact on the development of China’s power grid. Direct current (DC) transfer switch is an indispensable component for UHVDC system, and its research is conducive to the development of the UHV DC transmission system. DC transfer switch is composed of breaking circuit, oscillation circuit and energy absorbing circuit. The energy absorbing circuit of DC transfer switch can absorb lots of energy by using arresters when DC is turn off, it can avoid the failure of DC breaking due to arc reburning. In order to meet the requirement of absorbing a large amount of energy, the arresters in the energy absorbing circuit generally adopts a multi pillars parallel structure. When multiple columns are connected in parallel, the uniform distribution of energy between different arresters columns becomes a very important problem. If the energy distribution difference is large, the arresters will overheat, aging and even explode. Thus, it is necessary to study the current-sharing characteristics. In this paper, the simulation and experiment are carried out in combination with the actual converter station. On the premise of total discharge energy in station, it is concluded that: The greater the deviation of volt–ampere characteristic curve from standard curve, the greater the non-uniformity coefficient and the greater the energy absorbed by single pillar arrester. The maximum energy absorbed by single arrester is 8.77 MJ, the non-standard curve by single pillar arrester should deviate from the standard curve by no more than 4%.

Experiments at EAST demonstrate effective modulation of the stationary heat flux to the secondary lobes of the magnetic footprint induced by the resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) by slightly varying the equilibrium q _95 , consistent with prior numerical modeling. During the small q _95 variation, the edge localized mode control is well maintained, and the position of the secondary heat flux peak is effectively shifted, thus avoiding a specific location heat flux accumulation. As the divertor heat load is one of the significant concerns in tokamaks, these results provide a promising choice, varying magnetic equilibrium periodically to shift stationary heat load deposition position during static n = 4 ( n is the toroidal mode number) RMP condition, for further fusion devices. In this respect, the use of this technique for n = 4 RMPs is advantageous because the q _95 range that needs to be covered to spread the divertor heat load is reduced due to the smaller toroidal extent of the off-separatrix heat deposition zones compared to lower n ’s.

As a promising new energy source, natural gas hydrates (NGHs) have attracted wide attention. The thermophysical properties of NGHs are of great significance to their exploitation. This work summarizes the progress of laboratory measurements and models of NGH thermophysical parameters, such as phase equilibrium, thermal conductivity, dissociation enthalpy, thermal diffusivity, and specific heat capacity. The advantages and disadvantages of measurement methods, numerical models, typical experimental data, and characteristics are discussed. The measurement accuracy of hydrate phase equilibrium is closely related to the estimation (or prediction) of the temperature (pressure), at which gas hydrate may decompose, as well as the heating rate, pores, residual water, ice and additive, etc., affect the sample quality as well as the thermal conductivity. The randomness of hydrate nucleation and growth leads to the uncertainty of hydrate distribution in sediments, which directly affects the accuracy of thermophysical property prediction models. Moreover, some future perspectives are suggested.

Abstract On-chip manipulation of charged particles using electrophoresis or electroosmosis is widely used for many applications, including optofluidic sensing, bioanalysis and macromolecular data storage. We hereby demonstrate a technique for the capture, localization, and release of charged particles and DNA molecules in an aqueous solution using tubular structures enabled by a strain-induced self-rolled-up nanomembrane (S-RuM) platform. Cuffed-in 3D electrodes that are embedded in cylindrical S-RuM structures and biased by a constant DC voltage are used to provide a uniform electrical field inside the microtubular devices. Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) generally have some fatal defects, such as poor compatibility between the two phases leading to non-selective pores. In this work, PIM-1 was chosen as the polymer matrix, and UiO-66 modified with amidoxime (UiO-66-AO) was used as the filler to prepare the MMMs. In the MMMs, the amino and hydroxyl groups on UO-66-AO form a rich hydrogen bond network with the N and O atoms in the polymer PIM-1 chain to improve the compatibility between the polymer matrix and the filler. In addition, the selective adsorption of CO2 by the amidoxime group can promote the transport of CO2 in the membrane, which enhances the gas selectivity. The CO2 permeability and CO2/N2 selectivity of UiO-66-AO@PIM-1 MMMs are increased by 35.2% and 45.2% compared to pure PIM-1 membranes, reaching 7535.5 Barrer and 26.9, surpassing the Robeson Upper Bound (2008) and close to the 2019 Upper Bound. After 38 days of the aging experiment, the CO2 permeability is approximately 74% of the original. The results show that the addition of UiO-66-AO has an obvious effect on improving the aging properties of the membrane. The UiO-66-AO@PIM-1 MMMs have a bright prospect for CO2 separation in the future.

Possessed of easy access to development and fair economic benefits, medium-high maturity continental shale oil and gas have become the focus of shale oil and gas study in the future. Shale oil and gas mainly occur in pores, but studies on the pore characteristics of shale oil and gas occurrence are by no means sufficient. Focused on shale from the Middle Jurassic Lianggaoshan Formation in Well TYX, Fuling block, southeast of Sichuan Basin where a breakthrough in shale oil and gas exploration was recently achieved, this study selects core samples and conducts a series of analyses, including vitrinite reflectance analysis, kerogen microscopic examination experiment, total organic carbon (TOC) content analysis, mineral composition analysis, gas content measurement, isothermal adsorption experiment, S1 content analysis, and others. The analyses are to identify the pore characteristics of the continental medium and high maturity shale oil and gas by virtue of scanning electron microscope (SEM) with Ar-ion milling and the image processing software ImageJ. The conclusions are drawn as follows: in terms of lithofacies, medium-high maturity continental shale oil and gas mainly occur in organic-rich clay shale and organic-rich mixed shale; with regard to material composition, shale oil and gas mainly occur in organic matter, illite-smectite mixed layers and illite. Shale adsorbed gas content accounts for at most 40% of the total shale gas content and shale free gas content takes up at least 60% of the total shale gas content. Pores of solid bitumen, solid bitumen-clay mineral complex mass, clay minerals, structured vitrinite, and funginite are mostly developed in shale. Among them, the first three types of pores are the main reservoir space in shale considering their large number, good roundness, medium pore diameter, fairly good roundness of pore edges, and the complex shapes which altogether contribute to the large surface porosity.

Due to the low boiling point of helium, the nitrogen-rich off gas of the nitrogen rejection unit (NRU) in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant usually contains a small amount of CH4, approximately 1–4% He, and associated gases, such as H2. However, it is difficult to separate hydrogen and helium. Here, we propose two different integrated processes coupled with membrane separation, pressure swing adsorption (PSA), and the electrochemical hydrogen pump (EHP) based on different sequences of hydrogen gas removal. Both processes use membrane separation and PSA in order to recover and purify helium, and the EHP is used to remove hydrogen. The processes were strictly simulated using UniSim Design, and an economic assessment was conducted. The results of the economic assessment show that flowsheet #2 was more cost-effective due to the significant reduction in the capacity of the compressor and PSA because of the pre-removal of hydrogen. Additionally, using the response surface methodology (RSM), a Box–Behnken design experiment was conducted, and an accurate and reliable quadratic response surface regression model was fitted through variance analysis. The optimized operating parameters for the integrated process were determined as follows: the membrane area of M101 was 966.6 m2, the permeate pressure of M101 was 100 kPa, and the membrane area of M102 was 41.2 m2. The maximum recovery fraction was 90.66%, and the minimum cost of helium production was 2.21 $/kg. Thus, proposed flowsheet #2 has prospects and value for industrial application.

Abstract Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is associated with depression, but its role in major depressive disorder comorbid with anxiety (AMD) is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and clinical correlates of MetS in first-episode drug-naive (FEDN) patients with AMD in a Chinese Han population. In total, 1380 FEDN outpatients with AMD were recruited in this cross-sectional study. The sociodemographic features, clinical characteristics, history of suicide attempts, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels, and MetS parameters of each subject were evaluated. All subjects were rated on the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), and the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale positive symptom subscale. The prevalence of MetS among AMD patients was 8.04%. Compared to the non-MetS group, age, age of onset, TSH level, HAM-A and HAM-D scores, history of attempted suicide, and comorbid psychiatric symptoms were higher in the MetS group. Those in this group were also more likely to be married, and they had a lower educational level. Furthermore, age, psychiatric symptoms, suicide attempts, and higher TSH levels were independently associated with MetS in AMD patients. This study suggests a lower prevalence of MetS in FEDN patients with AMD in a Chinese Han population. Older age, comorbid psychiatric symptoms, history of attempted suicide, and higher TSH levels are related factors for MetS in AMD patients.

Two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials, due to their high aspect ratio and high specific surface area, which provide a more tortuous pathway for larger gas molecules, are frequently used in membrane separation. However, in mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs), the high aspect ratio and high specific surface area of 2D fillers can increase transport resistance, thereby reducing the permeability of gas molecules. In this work, we combine boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) with ZIF-8 nanoparticles to develop a novel material, ZIF-8@BNNS, to improve both CO2 permeability and CO2/N2 selectivity. Growth of ZIF-8 nanoparticles on the BNNS surface is achieved using an in-situ growth method where the amino groups of BNNS are complexed with Zn2+, creating gas transmission pathways that accelerate CO2 transmission. The 2D-BNNS material acts as a barrier in MMMs to improve CO2/N2 selectivity. The MMMs with a 20 wt.% ZIF-8@BNNS loading achieved a CO2 permeability of 106.5 Barrer and CO2/N2 selectivity of 83.2, surpassing the Robeson upper bound (2008) and demonstrating that MOF layers can efficiently reduce mass transfer resistance and enhance gas separation performance.

Saturated concrete is significantly different from dry concrete in fracture mechanical properties. Using the wedge-splitting tensile method to research the rule of change in moisture content, double-K fracture toughness and fracture energy of three strength grades (C20, C30, and C40) of concrete immersed in a free water environment for 0 h, 2 h, 5 h, 24 h, and 120 h were studied in order to provide support for the safety evaluation of concrete structures in a water environment. The initial cracking fracture toughness of C20, C30, and C40 concrete in saturated state were, respectively, 29.6%, 23.2%, and 33.4% lower than that in dry state. The unstable fracture toughness of C20, C30, and C40 concrete in saturated state were, respectively, 22.7%, 23.9% and 33.8% lower than that in dry state. The fracture energy of C20, C30, and C40 concrete in saturated state are only 71.99%, 70.29%, and 66.11% of that in dry state, respectively. The initial cracking fracture toughness and unstable fracture toughness of concrete all show a linear, decreasing trend with an increase in moisture content. Before the crack initiation, the measured P–CMOD curve had an obvious linear elastic stage, stable expansion stage, and unstable expansion stage. The critical crack opening displacement gradually decreases with an increase in moisture content; the deformation capacity and toughness of concrete are shown to decrease. The humidity state should be fully considered when evaluating the fracture mechanical properties of concrete.

PurposeThis study aimed to explore factors associated with recurrence and metastasis after intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and provide evidence for NPC treatment.MethodsWe retrospectively analysed the treatment dose and survival outcomes of 645 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma without distant metastases treated with IMRT for the first time at three treatment centres in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, between January 2009 and December 2012.ResultsThere were 9.3% of patients (60/645) had recurrence and 17.5% (113/645) had distant metastasis 5 years after treatment. The 1-year, 3-year and 5-year local recurrence rates were 0.9%, 6.5% and 9.0% respectively. And the 1-year, 3-year and 5-year distant metastasis rates were 3.4%, 10% and 17.2%, respectively. In the 60 patients with recurrence, the in-field, marginal-field, and out-field recurrence rates were 93.3% (56/60), 5.0% (3/60) and 1.7% (1/60), respectively. Recurrence failures occurring within the first three years after treatment accounted for 81.7% (49/60). In the 113 patients with metastasis, the size of the cervical lymph node, the presence of lower cervical lymph node metastasis, the residual cervical lymph node size and the time of residual cervical lymph node complete response (CR) were independent prognostic factors for DMFS (P

This study aimed to explore the effect of programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) in cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) on advanced laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). The expression of PD-L1 in advanced LSCC tumor tissues was observed in 83 patients with LSCC by immunofluorescence microscopy and compared with that in normal laryngeal mucosa. The CAFs of LSCC and normal fibroblasts (NFs) were isolated, cultured, purified, and examined by fluorescence. The expression of PD-L1 in purified CAFs and NFs was measured by flow cytometry. The expression of PD-L1 in CAFs was downregulated through small interferring RNA (siRNA) transfection. The proliferation and migration capacities of CAFs were observed using proliferation and scratch tests, respectively. The proliferation of HEP-2 cells and T cells was measured after cocultured with CAFs. The secretion of interleukins IL-2 and IL-10 was detected using enzyme-linked immuno sorbent assay (ELISA). PD-L1 was expressed in 62 of 83 cases of the advanced LSCC tumor tissues. Also, CAFs expressed more PD-L1 compared with NFs. The proliferation and migration capacities of CAFs were significantly lower after transfection with PD-L1-siRNA. The proliferation rate of HEP-2 cells cocultured with CAFs decreased in PD-L1-siRNA-transfected cells. However, the proliferation rate of T cells increased in transfected cells. The ELISA results showed that the secretion of IL-2 increased and that of IL-10 decreased in PD-L1-siRNA-transfected cells. The expression of PD-L1 in CAFs of advanced LSCC was higher than that in NFs. The downregulation of PD-L1 reduced the proliferation and migration of CAFs and HEP-2 cells but enhanced the proliferation and pro-inflammatory function of T cells in the coculture experiment.

Numerical investigations were conducted to determine the effectiveness of the front window visor for wind buffeting noise reduction. An unsteady flow simulation was carried out using a zonal Scale Adaptive Simulation (SAS) k-ε turbulence model. Firstly, the accuracy of the simulation method was validated based on a benchmark problem. The benchmark results, frequency, and sound pressure levels of feedback and resonance modes all matched well with the experimental data. The effect of the front window on the buffeting noise reduction was numerically investigated based on three different front side window openings. The analysis focused on the suppression effect of the front window visor. The results show that the front window visor changed the A-pillar vortex shedding trajectory and thus reduced the driver’s ear pressure fluctuation. On this basis, an optimization algorithm was employed to optimize the shape of the front window visor. The main design goal was to decrease the sound pressure level (SPL) values of the driver’s left ear. Simulation results showed that the monitoring point’s SPL of buffeting noise after the visor optimization was reduced by 12.6%, compared with that of the original visor.

To reduce aerodynamic drag of a minivan, non-smooth surfaces are applied to the minivan’s roof panel design. A steady computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method is used to investigate the aerodynamic drag characteristics. The accuracy of the numerical method is validated by wind tunnel test. The drag reduction effects of rectangle, rhombus and arithmetic progression arrangement for circular concaves are investigated numerically, and then the aerodynamic drag coefficient of the rectangle arrangement with a better drag reduction effect is chosen as the optimization objective. Three parameters, that is, the diameter D of the circular concave, the width W and the longitudinal distance L among the circular concaves, are selected as design variables. A 20-level design of an experimental study using a Latin Hypercube scheme is conducted. The responses of 20 groups of sample points are obtained by CFD simulation, based on which a Kriging model is chosen to create the surrogate-model. The multi-island genetic algorithm is employed to find the optimum solution. The result shows that maximum drag reduction effects up to 7.71% can be achieved with a rectangle circular concaves arrangement. The reduction mechanism of the roof with the circular concaves was discussed. The circular concaves decrease friction resistance of the roof and change the flow characteristics of the recirculation area in the wake of the minivan. The roof with the circular concaves reduces the differential pressure drag of the front and rear of the minivan.

Large-eddy simulation (LES) and Detached-eddy simulation (DES) were applied to a simple cavity model to calculate the wind buffeting noise respectively. The results were verified by wind tunnel experiments. The results show that LES is more suitable for wind buffeting noise calculation. LES method was employed to calculate automobile side-window buffeting noise. The correctness of results was validated by a road test. In this paper, the acoustically calculated sound pressure level (SPL) spectral curve is used as the initial signal of the acoustic post-processing. Four psychoacoustic objective parameters namely: loudness, sharpness, roughness and fluctuation were obtained by using Matlab R2016a to compile the calculation process. Sound quality evaluation (SQE) of the vehicle is performed via most frequently used SPL and four calculated vehicle comfort index. It can be concluded that with the increase of driving velocity, SPL and loudness show an increasing trend, while roughness, sharpness and fluctuation present a decreasing trend. It can be also summarised that with the increase of window opening degree, SPL and loudness show an increasing trend, sharpness presents a decreasing trend, and roughness and fluctuation display the trend of ups and downs. The main original contribution of this paper is the accurate calculation of wind buffeting noise and the summary of the changing rule of SPL, loudness, roughness, sharpness and fluctuation with the variation of velocity and window opening degree.

Management of excessive aqueous sulfide is one of the most significant challenges of treating effluent after biological sulfate reduction for metal recovery from hydrometallurgical leachate. The main objective of this study was to characterize and verify the effectiveness of a sulfide-oxidizing bacterial (SOB) consortium isolated from post-mining wastes for sulfide removal from industrial leachate through elemental sulfur production. The isolated SOB has a complete sulfur-oxidizing metabolic system encoded by sox genes and is dominated by the Arcobacter genus. XRD analysis confirmed the presence of elemental sulfur in the collected sediment during cultivation of the SOB in synthetic medium under controlled physicochemical conditions. The growth yield after three days of cultivation reached ~2.34 gprotein/molsulfid, while approximately 84% of sulfide was transformed into elemental sulfur after 5 days of incubation. Verification of isolated SOB on the industrial effluent confirmed that it can be used for effective sulfide concentration reduction (~100% reduced from the initial 75.3 mg/L), but for complete leachate treatment (acceptable for discharged limits), bioaugmentation with other bacteria is required to ensure adequate reduction of chemical oxygen demand (COD).

Concrete structures are often in different humidity conditions that have a significant impact on the elastic modulus of concrete, therefore, systematic research on the evolution of the law of concrete elastic modulus under different humidity conditions is needed. In this study, the variation laws of the water saturation of concrete specimens with strength grades C15, C20, and C30 were obtained, and then the influence laws of the water saturation on the concrete axial compressive strength were carried out, and the prediction model of elastic modulus of concrete with respect to water saturation was constructed. The results showed that the water saturation of concrete with strength grades C15, C20, and C30 increased with an extension of immersion time, and the water saturation showed an approximately linear rapid growth within three soaking hours, reaching 47.56%, 71.63%, and 47.29%, respectively. Note, the concrete reached saturation state when the soaking time was 240 h. The axial compressive strength with strength grades C15, C20, and C30 decreased with increased water saturation, and the axial compressive strength of saturated concrete decreased by 27.25%, 21.14%, and 20.76%, respectively, as compared with the dry state concrete. The elastic modulus of concrete with strength grades C15, C20, and C30 increased with increased water saturation, and the elastic modulus of saturated concrete was 1.18, 1.19, and 1.24 times higher than those of dry concrete, respectively.

Aflatoxins B1 (AFB1), deoxynivalenol (DON), fumonisin B1 (FB1), T-2 toxin (T-2), and zearalenone (ZEA) are the major foodborne mycotoxins of public health concerns. In the present study, the multiple toxic endpoints of these naturally-occurring mycotoxins were evaluated in Caenorhabditis elegans model for their lethality, toxic effects on growth and reproduction, as well as influence on lifespan. We found that the lethality endpoint was more sensitive for T-2 toxicity with the EC50 at 1.38 mg/L, the growth endpoint was relatively sensitive for AFB1 toxic effects, and the reproduction endpoint was more sensitive for toxicities of AFB1, FB1, and ZEA. Moreover, the lifespan endpoint was sensitive to toxic effects of all five tested mycotoxins. Data obtained from this study may serve as an important contribution to knowledge on assessment of mycotoxin toxic effects, especially for assessing developmental and reproductive toxic effects, using the C. elegans model.

The inhomogeneous distribution of parallel pipe flow leads to difficulty in the efficient and reliable operation of fluid power equipment. In view of this, a new type of rectifier nozzle has been proposed in parallel pipelines. Numerical simulation and experimental studies were used to reveal the influence of the rectification nozzle on the flow distribution characteristics. The hydraulic characteristics of the parallel pipelines with and without rectifier nozzles were compared and analyzed. The effects of the temperature and inlet flow on the flow uniformity were studied. The results showed that the initial temperature had little effect on the flow distribution of parallel pipelines, and the flow rates of the branches were not much different. The inlet flow had great influence on the distribution characteristics of the parallel pipelines, but the rectifier nozzles changed the local resistance structure and pressure distribution at the shunt, thereby improving the non-uniformity of the flow distribution of the parallel pipelines, and the maximum difference between the two pipes was optimized from 28.89 t/h (20.3%) to 2.2 t/h (1.5%). The rectifying nozzle could distort the flow field of each branch during the split, making the distribution of flow rate and flow state more uniform and stable. At high inlet fluid temperatures, cavitation could occur under the pressure drop of the nozzle, and partial cavitation had little effect on the flow distribution.

Rapid global development has resulted in the widespread use of water pipelines in industrial and agricultural production and life. During water transportation and deployment, water pipes with different angles need to be positioned according to different geographical and topographical problems. Flowmaster simulation software was used to simulate the leakage process of pipelines with different angles. The transient characteristics of fluids in the pipeline were studied in detail. The influences of parameters, such as the bending coefficient R/D (R is the turning radius of pipe, D is the inner diameter of pipe), leakage position, and leakage aperture on the transient flow law of pipelines with and without leakage, were analyzed. The results show that the periodic decay of the upstream flow and pressure curve at the valve with and without leakage has an insignificant relationship with the bending coefficient R/D; however, the amplitude of the sudden position change is positively correlated with the magnitude of R/D. The leakage aperture is positively correlated with the leakage flow and negatively correlated with the pressure value at the leak location node. The farther the leak position is from the valve, the greater the amplitude of the valve end pressure and the upstream flow curve, and symmetric fluctuations occur.
