Several routing schemes for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite IP networks have been proposed in recent years, but little work has been done to consider the satellite network topology and traffic load change simultaneously. A distributed routing algorithm combined with Multi-Agent System (MASSR) is proposed in the paper. As MASSR relies on both passive and active information gathering and exchanging, it not only provides a traffic-adaptive and multi-path routing, but fast tracks the change of network topology as well. Simulation results show that, compared with AntNet, MASSR presents improved end-to-end delay as well as enhanced robustness.

A fair and adaptive call admission control algorithm for multimedia low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks was proposed. Based on current call dropping probability of destination cell, this algorithm reserves bandwidth for handoff calls using double threshold method. To avoid the discrimination of quality of service (QoS) caused by the allocation based on fair bandwidth, this algorithm adopts the bandwidth allocation rule based on fair QoS. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can accurately and adaptively reserve bandwidth, present satisfactory call blocking probability and greatly reduce handoff call dropping probability, while guarantees the high bandwidth utilization.

A novel adaptive call admission control algorithm for multimedia low orbit satellite networks was proposed. Based on real-time call dropping probability of destination cell, the algorithm is able to reserve bandwidth for handoff calls combining probability threshold method and fair utility allocation scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm presents satisfactory new call blocking probability and greatly reduces handoff call dropping probability, while guarantees the high bandwidth utilization.

Recent research indicates that self-similarity is a common phenomenon in wired network. However, there are no sufficient studies that focus on the characteristics in wireless network, especially in low earth orbit (LEO) satellite network. This paper presents a practicable model based on analysis of aggregate self-similar traffic and impact on performances of LEO satellite network, and then validate that the traffic in LEO satellite network is self-similar. Then, the quality of service (QoS) measures under self-similar traffic such as queue length and buffer size are discussed.
