Abstract Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNNs), due to their high computational and memory requirements, face significant challenges in deployment on resource-constrained devices. Network Pruning, an essential model compression technique, contributes to enabling the efficient deployment of DCNNs on such devices. Compared to traditional rule-based pruning methods, Reinforcement Learning(RL)—based automatic pruning often yields more effective pruning strategies through its ability to learn and adapt. However, the current research only set a single agent to explore the optimal pruning rate for all convolutional layers, ignoring the interactions and effects among multiple layers. To address this challenge, this paper proposes an automatic Filter Pruning method with a multi-agent reinforcement learning algorithm QMIX, named QMIX_FP. The multi-layer structure of DCNNs is modeled as a multi-agent system, which considers the varying sensitivity of each convolutional layer to the entire DCNN and the interactions among them. We employ the multi-agent reinforcement learning algorithm QMIX, where individual agent contributes to the system monotonically, to explore the optimal iterative pruning strategy for each convolutional layer. Furthermore, fine-tuning the pruned network using knowledge distillation accelerates model performance improvement. The efficiency of this method is demonstrated on two benchmark DCNNs, including VGG-16 and AlexNet, over CIFAR-10 and CIFAR-100 datasets. Extensive experiments under different scenarios show that QMIX_FP not only reduces the computational and memory requirements of the networks but also maintains their accuracy, making it a significant advancement in the field of model compression and efficient deployment of deep learning models on resource-constrained devices.

Abstract Background When discolored teeth are repaired with porcelain veneers, the thickness of the restorations should be increased appropriately using opaque porcelain and bonded by applying opaque luting resin cement to cover discolored substrates. However, its impact on the opalescent performance has not been reported yet. Purpose To analyze the effects of opacity, body porcelain layer thickness, and luting resin cement on the opalescence properties of porcelain veneer restorations for discolored teeth. Methods Ninety IPS d. SIGN A3 porcelain veneer specimens were prepared via powder–paste coating and sintering. Specimens were divided into three groups according to ceramic type and cement used or not: body porcelain group as control, body/opaque porcelain group and body/opaque porcelain–resin cement composite group. Each group was subdivided into three subgroups based on the thickness, 0.50, 0.75, and 1.00 mm (n = 10). Abstract Background This study was conducted to investigate the long-term outcomes of laparoscopic total gastrectomy (LTG) versus open total gastrectomy (OTG) in patients with advanced gastric cancer (AGC) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT). Methods Patients with AGC who received NACT before surgery were enrolled in either the LTG or OTG group. Propensity score matching (PSM) (1:2) was performed between the two groups based on the propensity score using a 0.15 calliper width. Three-year overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were compared between these two groups before and after PSM. OS and DFS rates were calculated by the Kaplan‒Meier method, and any differences in survival were evaluated with a log-rank test. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards analyses were used to estimate the simultaneous effects of prognostic factors on survival and the hazard ratio (HR) between LTG and OTG patients. Results A total of 144 patients completed the follow-up, with 24 patients in the LTG group and 120 patients in the OTG group. After a mean follow-up of 64.40 months, there were no significant differences in the 3-year OS or DFS rates between the two groups before (P = 0.453 and P = 0.362, respectively) or after PSM (P = 0.972 and P = 0.884, respectively). Multivariate Cox proportional hazards analysis indicated that ypN stage was an independent risk factor for worse OS (P = 0.013). Conclusions This study showed that LTG with D2 lymphadenectomy performed by an experienced surgical team resulted in comparable 3-year OS and DFS compared with OTG in patients with AGC after NACT. Abstract Background Currently, industrial fermentation of Botrytis cinerea is a significant source of abscisic acid (ABA). The crucial role of ABA in plants and its wide range of applications in agricultural production have resulted in the constant discovery of new derivatives and analogues. While modifying the ABA synthesis pathway of existing strains to produce ABA derivatives is a viable option, it is hindered by the limited synthesis capacity of these strains, which hinders further development and application. Results In this study, we knocked out the bcaba4 gene of B. cinerea TB-31 to obtain the 1′,4′-trans-ABA-diol producing strain ZX2. We then studied the fermentation broth of the batch-fed fermentation of the ZX2 strain using metabolomic analysis. The results showed significant accumulation of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaric acid, mevalonic acid, and mevalonolactone during the fermentation process, indicating potential rate-limiting steps in the 1′,4′-trans-ABA-diol synthesis pathway. This may be hindering the flow of the synthetic pathway. Additionally, analysis of the transcript levels of terpene synthesis pathway genes in this strain revealed a correlation between the bchmgr, bcerg12, and bcaba1-3 genes and 1′,4′-trans-ABA-diol synthesis. To further increase the yield of 1′,4′-trans-ABA-diol, we constructed a pCBg418 plasmid suitable for the Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation (ATMT) system and transformed it to obtain a single-gene overexpression strain. We found that overexpression of bchmgr, bcerg12, bcaba1, bcaba2, and bcaba3 genes increased the yield of 1′,4′-trans-ABA-diol. The highest yielding ZX2 A3 strain was eventually screened, which produced a 1′,4′-trans-ABA-diol concentration of 7.96 mg/g DCW (54.4 mg/L) in 144 h of shake flask fermentation. This represents a 2.1-fold increase compared to the ZX2 strain. Conclusions We utilized metabolic engineering techniques to alter the ABA-synthesizing strain B. cinerea, resulting in the creation of the mutant strain ZX2, which has the ability to produce 1′,4′-trans-ABA-diol. By overexpressing the crucial genes involved in the 1′,4′-trans-ABA-diol synthesis pathway in ZX2, we observed a substantial increase in the production of 1′,4′-trans-ABA-diol.

Abscisic acid (ABA) is a conserved and important “sesquiterpene signaling molecule” widely distributed in different organisms with unique biological functions. ABA coordinates reciprocity and competition between microorganisms and their hosts. In addition, ABA also regulates immune and stress responses in plants and animals. Therefore, ABA has a wide range of applications in agriculture, medicine and related fields. The plant pathogenic ascomycete B. cinerea has been extensively studied as a model strain for ABA production. Nevertheless, there is a relative dearth of research regarding the regulatory mechanism governing ABA biosynthesis in B. cinerea. Here, we discovered that H3K9 methyltransferase BcDIM5 is physically associated with the H3K14 deacetylase BcHda1. Deletion of Bcdim5 and Bchda1 in the high ABA-producing B. cinerea TB-31 led to severe impairment of ABA synthesis. The combined analysis of RNA-seq and ChIP-seq has revealed that the absence of BcDIM5 and BcHda1 has resulted in significant global deficiencies in the normal distribution and level of H3K9me3 modification. In addition, we found that the cause of the decreased ABA production in the ΔBcdim5 and ΔBchda1 mutants was due to cluster gene repression caused by the emergence of hyper-H3K9me3 in the ABA gene cluster. We concluded that the ABA gene cluster is co-regulated by BcDIM5 and BcHda1, which are essential for the normal distribution of the B. cinerea TB-31 ABA gene cluster H3K9me3. This work expands our understanding of the complex regulatory network of ABA biosynthesis and provides a theoretical basis for genetic improvement of high-yielding ABA strains.

Abstract Background The prognosis of gastric cancer (GC) patients with positive peritoneal cytology (CY1) without other distant metastasis is poor, and there are no standard treatment strategies. Our study aimed to compare the survival outcomes of CY1 GC patients receiving chemotherapy or surgery as initial treatment. Methods From February 2017 to January 2020, clinical and pathological data of patients diagnosed with CY1 GC without other distant metastasis in the Peking University Cancer Hospital was reviewed. Patients were divided into two groups: chemotherapy-initial group and surgery-initial group. In chemotherapy-initial group, patients received preoperative chemotherapy initially. According to the treatment response, the patients were divided into three subgroups: conversion gastrectomy group, palliative gastrectomy group, and further systematic chemotherapy group. In surgery-initial group, patients underwent gastrectomy followed by postoperative chemotherapy. Results A total of 96 CY1 GC patients were included with 48 patients in each group. In chemotherapy-initial group, preoperative chemotherapy yielded an objective response rate of 20.8% and disease control rate of 87.5%. Conversion to CY0 after preoperative chemotherapy was obtained in 24 (50%) patients. The median overall survival was 36.1 months in chemotherapy-initial group and 29.7 months in surgery-initial group (p = 0.367). The median progression-free survival was 18.1 months in chemotherapy-initial group and 16.1 months in surgery-initial group (p = 0.861). The 3-year overall survival rates were 50.0% and 47.9%, respectively. In chemotherapy-initial group, twenty-four patients who converted to CY0 by preoperative chemotherapy and received surgery obtained a significantly better prognosis. The median overall survival was still not reached in these patients. Conclusion There was no significant difference in survival outcomes between chemotherapy-initial group and surgery-initial group. CY1 GC patients who converted to CY0 by preoperative chemotherapy and received radical surgery could obtain a favorable long-term prognosis. Further investigation should focus on preoperative chemotherapy to eliminate peritoneal cancer cell. Trial registration This study is retrospectively registered.

Abstract Background The safety and short-term outcomes of gastrectomy after preoperative chemotherapy plus immunotherapy (PCIT) versus preoperative chemotherapy (PCT) in patients with advanced gastric cancer (AGC) remain unclear. Abstract Background Laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) for gastric cancer has rapidly developed and become more popular in recent decades. Additional high-quality randomized controlled trial (RCT) studies comparing LG versus open gastrectomy (OG) for gastric cancer (GC) have been published in recent years. An updated systematic review is warranted. The aim of our meta-analysis was to comprehensively evaluate the short- and long-term outcomes of LG versus OG for GC. Materials and methods The PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Center Register of Controlled Trials databases were comprehensively searched to identify RCTs comparing LG versus OG for GC published between January 1994 and December 7, 2021. This study was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) and Cochrane Collaboration and the Quality of Reporting of Meta-analyses (QUORUM) guidelines. All RCTs comparing the short- and long-term outcomes of LG with those of OG were included. A random effects model was adopted with significant heterogeneity (I 2 > 50%), while a fixed effects model was employed in all other cases (I 2 ≤ 50%). Results A total of 26 RCTs with 8301 patients were included in this meta-analysis. The results indicated that the intraoperative complication rate was comparable between the LG group and the OG group (OR=1.14, 95% CI [0.76, 1.70], I 2=0%, p=0.53). Abstract It has been an important approach of using matrix completion to perform image restoration. Most previous works on matrix completion focus on the low‐rank property by imposing explicit constraints on the recovered matrix, such as the constraint of the nuclear norm or limiting the dimension of the matrix factorisation component. Recently, theoretical works suggest that deep linear neural network has an implicit bias towards low rank on matrix completion. In this work, a regularised deep matrix factorised (RDMF) model for image restoration is proposed, which utilises the implicit bias of the low rank of deep neural networks and the explicit bias of total variation. RDMF is a powerful and flexible framework for inverse problems in image processing while the combination of implicit and explicit regularisation represents the intrinsic characteristics of a natural image. The effectiveness of the RDMF model with extensive experiments are demonstrated, in which the method surpasses the recently proposed models in common examples, especially for the restoration from very few observations. This work sheds light on a more general framework for solving other inverse problems by combining the implicit bias of deep learning with explicit regularisation.

IntroductionAbscisic acid (ABA) is an important sesquiterpene compound that regulates the stress resistance of plants. Botrytis cinerea can synthesize ABA via the mevalonic acid pathway. To identify the functional genes that are involved in the biosynthesis of ABA, we performed insertion mutagenesis into B. cinerea TB-31.MethodsWe obtained the ABA-reduced mutant E154 by insertion mutagenesis, and we identified the insertion site was located upstream of the gene bcfrp1 by Thermal asymmetric interlaced PCR. We performed a detailed phenotypic characterization of the bcfrp1 knockout and complementation mutants in TB-31. Furthermore, transcriptome and proteome analyses were conducted to explore how bcfrp1 affects the level of the ABA biosynthesis.ResultsThe bcfrp1 gene encodes an F-box protein. The phenotypic results confirmed the positive contribution of bcfrp1 to the biosynthesis of ABA and growth. Between TB-31 and ΔBcfrp1, we obtained 4,128 and 1,073 differentially expressed genes and proteins, respectively. The impaired ABA biosynthesis in the ΔBcfrp1 mutants was primarily affected by the different levels of expression of the ABA biosynthetic gene cluster and the genes involved in the mevalonic acid pathway. In addition, we further characterized the differentially expressed genes and proteins that participated in the growth, secondary metabolism, and signal transduction in B. cinerea based on the transcriptome and proteome data.DiscussionThis research based on the transcriptome and proteome analyses to display the changes after the deletion of bcfrp1 in B. cinerea TB-31, will help us to explore the molecular mechanism of ABA biosynthesis in B. cinerea.

BackgroundThe optimal indications of staging laparoscopy in gastric cancer to detect peritoneal carcinomatosis are still controversial. We performed this systematic review and meta-analysis to quantify the relevance of the preoperative factors with peritoneal carcinomatosis to explore the indications of staging laparoscopy.Materials and methodsSystematic searches were conducted using Medline, Embase, and the Cochrane Library in December 2021. On the basis of calculating the odds ratio (OR) of each factor, we quantified the association between the risk factors and peritoneal carcinomatosis such as clinical T/N stage, Borrmann type, and tumor markers, using meta-analysis with a random-effects model.ResultsA total of 21 case-control studies and one cohort study were obtained. T stage, N stage, and differentiation degree were most widely studied, with OR values of 2.96 (95% CI: 1.87–4.69), 1.22 (95% CI: 0.86–1.73), and 1.91 (95% CI: 1.42–2.56), respectively. Among all the factors, elevated CA125 (OR = 19.45, 95% CI: 4.71–80.30), Borrmann type IV (OR = 7.68, 95% CI: 3.62–16.27), and large tumor diameter (OR = 5.12, 95% CI: 2.55–10.31) had the highest OR. In particular, CA125 had the best predictability for peritoneal carcinomatosis but was only mentioned by three articles.ConclusionsThere was a cognitive gap between the awareness and importance of risk factors for peritoneal carcinomatosis. In addition to T4 stage, patients with factors with high OR, such as Borrmann type IV, large tumor diameter, and elevated CA125, should undergo staging laparoscopy.

Abstract Background The prognostic values of preoperative tumor markers (TMs) remain elusive in patients with locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatment (NACT). This study aimed to assess and establish a novel scoring system incorporating carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9), carbohydrate antigen 72-4 (CA72-4) to enhance prognostic accuracy for progression-free survival (PFS) and pathological response (pCR). Methods Patients' data were retrospectively analyzed from December 2006 to December 2017 in our center. The cutoff value of TMs was determined using the time-dependent receiver operating test characteristics method. These three TMs were allocated 1 point each for the post neoadjuvant chemotherapy combination of tumor markers (post-NACT CTM) scores. The training group comprised 533 patients, responsible for full analysis, and the validation group comprised 137 patients based on the selection protocol. Results Of 533 enrolled patients, 138, 233, 117, and 45 patients scored 0, 1, 2, 3 respectively. BackgroundPeritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) of gastric cancer indicates a poor outcome and is mainly diagnosed by staging laparoscopy (SL). This study was designed to develop a risk stratification model based on the number of risk factors to exempt low-risk patients from unnecessary SL.MethodsThis was a retrospective cohort study based on a single institution between January 2015 and December 2019. SL is indicated for patients of advanced locoregional stage, and clinicopathologic characteristics of 535 consecutive patients were included. PC-associated variables were identified by logistic regression analysis. A risk stratification model based on the number of risk factors was constructed, and we defined its predictive value with a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and negative predictive value.ResultsIn total, 15.9% of included patients were found to have PC during SL. Borrmann type IV, elevated CA125, and tumour diameter ≥5 cm were independent risk factors of PC. These three factors combined with cT4 were selected as predictive factors, and the number of predictive variables was significantly related to the possibility of PC (2.0%, 12.8%, 20.0%, 54.2%, and 100%, respectively). When the cutoff value is more than one predictive factor, the negative predictive value is 98.0%, with an area under the curve of 0.780. This model could exempt 29.8% of unnecessary SL compared to the indication of the current NCCN guideline.ConclusionsWe constructed a simple model to predict the probability of PC using the number of predictive factors. It is recommended that patients without any of these factors should be exempt from SL.

Fuji apple (Malus × domestica Borkh.) is a popular fruit cultivar and occupies an important position in the fruit market due to its excellent flavor and storage quality. Ethylene emission can induce respiration, which would reduce postharvest quality and increase storage losses. In order to maintain fruit quality and extend shelf life, apples are usually stored in a low-temperature environment after harvest to reduce the formation of ethylene. Volatile aroma components are regarded as one of the most important aspects of flavor quality and a key factor for apple quality grading and customer satisfaction. Ethylene emission and its relationship with volatile aromas during low temperature, however, have not been determined. In this study, the dynamic changes of volatile aroma compounds of Fuji apples stored at 4 °C were detected and analyzed for 42 days. The variation of ethylene released from Fuji apple was studied correspondingly. The results showed that ethyl butyrate, ethyl caproate, ethyl 2-methylbutyrate and 2-methylbutyl acetate were the main aroma components of Fuji apple. The change in ethylene emission and the normalized peak area of volatile aroma compounds exhibited a similar tendency that increased significantly from the 3rd day to the peak on the 14th day and then decreased; there was a positive linear correlation between them with a correlation coefficient of 0.79 (P < 0.05). Therefore, ethylene release can be used as a potential indicator for evaluation of volatile aroma compounds in apples. Using ethylene emission as an indicator could reduce the difficulty and complexity of volatile aroma evaluation, which could be a new non-destructive inspection choice for apple flavor quality assessment.

BackgroundsPerioperative chemotherapy (PEC) and neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) have become a vital part of locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC) treatment, but the optimal duration of PEC has not been studied. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the possibility of duration reduction in PEC in the adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) phase for ypN0 patients.MethodsWe included LAGC patients who achieved ypN0 after NAC in our institution from 2005 to 2018. The risk/benefit of AC and other covariates were majorly measured by overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). We developed a survival-tree-based model to determine the optimal PEC duration for ypN0 patients in different classes.ResultsA total of 267 R0 resection patients were included. There were 55 patients who did not receive AC. The 5-year OS was 74.34% in the non-AC group and 83.64% in the AC group with a significant difference (p = 0.012). Multivariate Cox regression revealed that both AC (AC vs. non-AC: HR, 0.49; 95%CI, 0.27–0.88; p = 0.018) and ypT stages (ypT3-4 vs. ypT0-2: HR, 2.00; 95%CI, 1.11–3.59; p = 0.021) were significant protective/risk factors on patients OS and PFS. A decision tree model for OS indicated an optimal four to six cycles of PEC, which was recommended for ypT0-2N0 patients, while a minimum of five PEC cycles was recommended for ypT3-4N0 patients.ConclusionAC treatment is still necessary for ypN0. The duration reduction could be applied for the ypT0-2N0 stage patients but may not be suitable for higher ypT stages and beyond. A multicenter-based study is required.

The continuous changes in Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) produce a significant impact on environmental factors. Highly accurate monitoring and updating of land cover information is essential for environmental protection, sustainable development, and land resource planning and management. Recently, Collaborative Representation (CR)-based methods have been widely used in land cover classification from Hyperspectral Images (HSIs). However, most CR methods consider the spatial information of HSI by taking the average or weighted average of spatial neighboring pixels of each pixel to improve the land cover classification performance, but do not take the spatial structure information for pixels into account. To address this problem, a novel Weighted Spatial–Spectral Joint CR Classification (WSSJCRC) method is proposed in this paper. WSSJCRC only performs spatial filtering on HSI through a weighted spatial filtering operator to alleviate the spectral shift caused by adjacency effect, but also utilizes the labeled training pixels to simultaneously represent each test pixel and its spatial neighborhood pixels to consider the spatial structure information of each test pixel to assist the classification of the test pixel. On this basis, the kernel version of WSSJCRC (i.e., WSSJKCRC) is also proposed, which projects the hyperspectral data into the kernel-induced high-dimensional feature space to enhance the separability of nonlinear samples. The experimental results on three real hyperspectral scenes show that the proposed WSSJKCRC method achieves the best land cover classification performance among all the compared methods. Specifically, the Overall Accuracy (OA), Average Accuracy (AA), and Kappa statistic (Kappa) of WSSJKCRC reach 96.21%, 96.20%, and 0.9555 for the Indian Pines scene, 97.02%, 96.64%, and 0.9605 for the Pavia University scene, and 95.55%, 97.97%, and 0.9504 for the Salinas scene, respectively. Moreover, the proposed WSSJKCRC method obtains the promising accuracy with OA over 95% on the three hyperspectral scenes under the situation of small-scale labeled samples, thus effectively reducing the labeling cost for HSI.

The Chinese government has implemented a homestead withdrawal policy to improve the efficiency of rural construction land use. The compensation for rural homestead withdrawal (CRHW) is crucial to the reconstruction and sustainable development of farmers’ livelihoods. This paper analyzed the response mechanisms of farmers’ livelihoods to the CRHW with the combined application of the logistic regression, the mediation effect model, and the moderating effect model. The results indicated that CRHW had a significant positive impact on the sustainable livelihoods of rural households, mainly by improving the physical capital and social capital. In addition, adaptability and livelihood diversity played intermediary and regulatory roles in the positive impacts of the CRHW on sustainable livelihoods, respectively. The conclusions may provide insight into the demand for more reasonable compensation policies to ensure the sustainability of farmers’ livelihoods.

The quality of masters' dissertations is an important index of graduate education, which can be in part reflected through the grades given by experts. This study aims to find the factors positively correlated to the grades, and then use them to predict the grades and quality of dissertations. We applied four typical machine learning models to calculate the impacts of several factors extracted from the contents of dissertations on the grades. It shows that the random forest model outperforms logistic regression, support vector machine, and naive Bayes on recognizing the dissertations with a high grade. It also shows that the quantity of publications is the most important predictor to the grades, compared with the quantity of publications, the length of dissertations, the quantity and quality of references. And the quality of references is a significant predictor of producing high quality publications. Those findings can be utilized to predict and recognize high quality dissertations.

The monitoring of ethylene is of great importance to fruit and vegetable quality, yet routine techniques rely on manual and complex operation. Herein, a chemiresistive ethylene sensor based on reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/tungsten diselenide (WSe2)/Pd heterojunctions was designed for room-temperature (RT) ethylene detection. The sensor exhibited high sensitivity and quick p-type response/recovery (33/13 s) to 10–100 ppm ethylene at RT, and full reversibility and excellent selectivity to ethylene were also achieved. Such excellent ethylene sensing behaviors could be attributed to the synergistic effects of ethylene adsorption abilities derived from the negative adsorption energy and the promoted electron transfer across the WSe2/Pd and rGO/WSe2 interfaces through band energy alignment. Furthermore, its application feasibility to banana ripeness detection was verified by comparison with routine technique through simulation experiments. This work provides a feasible methodology toward designing and fabricating RT ethylene sensors, and may greatly push forward the development of modernized intelligent agriculture.

BackgroundEpstein–Barr virus-associated gastric cancer(EBVaGC)has a unique tumor immune microenvironment. We performed a comprehensive analysis of the tumor-infiltrating immune cells in a cohort of EBVaGC in a Chinese population.MethodsEpstein–Barr encoding region (EBER) in situ hybridization was performed in 1,328 consecutive cases of surgically resected GC. Densities of immune cells, including T cells, B cells, natural killer cells, and macrophages from the patients were calculated after immunohistochemical staining with CD3, CD20, CD57, and CD68 antibodies in tissue microarrays, respectively.ResultsEBVaGC patients accounted for 4.1% (55 of 1,328) cases in the overall population. The average age of patients with EBVaGC was lower than that of non-EBVaGC patients. Histologically, EBVaGC patients exhibited poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma (P = 0.004) and lower frequency of vascular invasion (P = 0.034). The density of CD3+ T lymphocytes (CD3, 23.84 ± 14.49 vs. 12.76 ± 8.93, P < 0.001) and CD68+ macrophages (CD68, 9.73 ± 5.25 vs. 5.44 ± 4.18, P < 0.001) was significantly higher in EBVaGC patients. CD3+ T cell density predicted better 5-year overall survival of EBVaGC patients (P = 0.022).ConclusionsEBVaGC patients were younger with low-differentiated adenocarcinoma and less vascular invasion. Increased infiltration of multiple immune cells affected the prognosis of patients, especially EBVaGC patients with more CD3+ T lymphocytes, who survived longer.

Abstract Background Staging laparoscopy(SL) is a recommended technique for the staging of Gastric Cancer(GC) and provides the indication for a radical surgery. Considering the medical practice in China, the standardized and regular usage of SL is yet to be spread. However, existing guidelines vary and make an ambiguity of indication for SL. Besides, the specific indication for Chinese patients remains a niche. This study aims to the essential, missing information of Chinese patients and tries to normalize the indication of LS in medical practice in China. Methods The study is a prospective, multicenter cohort study being conducted in China with a total of 450 patients, all diagnosed with locally advanced gastric cancer (cT2-4 N0-3 M0, no evidence of intra-abdominal dissemination) through Computed Tomography(CT) and/or Endoscopic Ultrasonography(EUS). Peritoneal lavage is regularly performed during the SL. Multivariate Cox regression model and receiver-operator characteristic(ROC) analysis will be used to analyze the significant risk factors of intra-abdominal metastasis(including peritoneal dissemination and a positive cytological result). Discussion This confirmatory study will provide us with the specific positive rate of intraabdominal metastasis of GC in China, compared with empirical evidence of 20%. We expect this trial will contribute to our discovery of the specific risk factors of intra-abdominal metastasis of Chinese patients and to the stimulating and performing of minimally invasive surgical procedures. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy before radical gastrectomy is preferred for locally advanced gastric cancer. To avoid the problematic use of pTNM for patients after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) gastric cancer TNM staging system (8th edition) added ypTNM for the first time. But patients achieving pathological complete response were not covered by the new ypTNM staging system. To investigate whether pathological complete response is associated with better outcome in gastric cancer, as was reported in rectal, breast and bladder cancer.We systematically searched the databases of PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cochrane Collaboration's Central register of controlled trials from January 1988 to April 2015 for publications which reported outcomes of patients with and without pathological complete response (pCR) (pT0N0M0) to investigate whether pCR after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in gastric or gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) treated with radical surgery is associated with better survival. The primary outcome was overall survival (OS). The secondary outcome was disease-free survival (DFS). Both were measured with a relative risk (RR). A meta-analysis was performed using the fixed effects model. Forest plots and the Q test was used to evaluate overall heterogeneity for OS and DFS.A total of seven trials, 1143 patients were included and analyzed after neoadjuvant chemotherapy and radical surgery with no other preoperative treatment. The average rate of pCR was 6.74% (range: 3%-15%). ABSTRACT The purpose of this research was to enhance the production of vitamin K2 by fermentation optimization and Arachis hypogaea supplementation in Flavobacterium sp. mutant SP-L-01. Optimized culture condition were as follows: 6-days shake-flask culture at 37oC with initial pH value 7.0 ± 0.2, shaking speed in 120 r/min and medium volume of 30 mL with 2% inoculums. After optimization of fermentation medium by response surface methodology (RSM), optimized medium were maltose 23.8 g/l, glucose 9.69 g/l, beef extract 15 g/l, K2HPO4 4.5 g/l，NaCl 3.0 g/l and MgSO4·7H2O 0.3 g/l. Production of vitamin K2 after optimization reached to 10.97 mg/l, which is 79.25% higher than that before optimization (6.12 mg/l). 3 mg/mL of arachis hypogaea was added into the medium at 72 h of shake-flake cultivation, which improved the production of menaquinone-4 (MK4) up to 371% and menaquinone-6 (MK6) up to 149% higher than those of the original medium. D-(+)-catechin, one of the components of arachis hypogaea, was added alone into the medium, which also improved the vitamin K2 synthesis.

Purple membranes (PM) of the bacteria Halobacterium salinarum are a unique natural membrane where bacteriorhodopsin (BR) can convert photon energy and pump protons. Elucidating the electronic properties of biomembranes is critical for revealing biological mechanisms and developing new devices. We report here the electric properties of PMs studied by using multi-functional electric force microscopy (EFM) at the nanoscale. The topography, surface potential, and dielectric capacity of PMs were imaged and quantitatively measured in parallel. Two orientations of PMs were identified by EFM because of its high resolution in differentiating electrical characteristics. The extracellular (EC) sides were more negative than the cytoplasmic (CP) side by 8 mV. The direction of potential difference may facilitate movement of protons across the membrane and thus play important roles in proton pumping. Unlike the side-dependent surface potentials observed in PM, the EFM capacitive response was independent of the side and was measured to be at a dC/dz value of ~5.25 nF/m. Furthermore, by modification of PM with de novo peptides based on peptide-protein interaction, directional oriented PM assembly on silicon substrate was obtained for technical devices. This work develops a new method for studying membrane nanoelectronics and exploring the bioelectric application at the nanoscale.
