Random flaps are widely used for wound repair. However, flap necrosis is a serious complication leading to the failure of operation. Our previous study demonstrated a great proangiogenic potential of hypoxia-treated adipose-derived stem cells-extracellular vesicles (HT-ASC-EVs). Thus, we aim to evaluate the effect of HT-ASC-EVs in the survival and angiogenesis of random skin flap in rats.Adipose-derived stem cells-extracellular vesicles were respectively isolated from adipose-derived stem cell culture medium of 3 donors via ultracentrifugation. The expression of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) and proangiogenic potential of HT-ASC-EVs and ASC-EVs were compared by co-culturing with human umbilical vein endothelial cells. Forty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 group (n = 10/group). A 9 × 3-cm random skin flap was separated from the underlying fascia with both sacral arteries sectioned on each rat. The survival and angiogenesis of flaps treated by ASC-EVs or HT-ASC-EVs were also compared. Laser Doppler flowmetry and immunohistochemistry were used to evaluate skin perfusion and angiogenesis of skin flaps on postoperative day 7.Hypoxia-treated adipose-derived stem cells-extracellular vesicles further improve the proliferation, migration, tube formation with upregulated HIF-1α, and VEGF expression of human umbilical vein endothelial cells in vitro, compared with ASC-EVs. In vivo, postoperatively injecting HT-ASC-EVs suppressed necrosis rate (29.1 ± 2.8% vs 59.2 ± 2.1%) and promoted the angiogenesis of skin flap including improved skin perfusion (803.2 ± 24.3 vs 556.3 ± 26.7 perfusion unit), increased number of CD31-positive cells, and upregulated expression of HIF-1α in vascular endothelium on postoperative day 7, compared with ASC-EVs.Intradermal injecting HT-ASC-EVs improve the survival of random skin flap by promoting HIF-1α-mediated angiogenesis in rat model.

Background Cardiac angiosarcoma is a rare but highly malignant cardiac tumor. It is characterized by poor prognosis, and current treatment approaches are not effective. Case presentation A 37-year-old female with 35 weeks pregnancy experienced chest tightness and shortness of breath for 1 month. She was diagnosed with primary cardiac angiosarcoma. Delivery of fetus was performed early to treat the mother. The patient underwent resection of the tumor then she was treated with chemotherapy. However, the tumor recurred 11 months after surgery. Conclusion Angiosarcoma is a highly malignant tumor explaining recurrence of the tumor recurred after surgery. Cardiac angiosarcoma should be treated through a comprehensive treatment plan, comprising surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy approaches.

Background: Cataract is the leading cause of blindness worldwide. In order to achieve large-scale cataract screening and remarkable performance, several studies have applied artificial intelligence (AI) to cataract detection based on fundus images. However, the fundus images they used are original from normal optical circumstances, which is less impractical due to the existence of poor-quality fundus images for inappropriate optical conditions in actual scenarios. Furthermore, these poor-quality images are easily mistaken as cataracts because both show fuzzy imaging characteristics, which may decline the performance of cataract detection. Therefore, we aimed to develop and validate an antiinterference AI model for rapid and efficient diagnosis based on fundus images.Materials and Methods: The datasets (including both cataract and noncataract labels) were derived from the Chinese PLA general hospital. The antiinterference AI model consisted of two AI submodules, a quality recognition model for cataract labeling and a convolutional neural networks-based model for cataract classification. The quality recognition model was performed to distinguish poor-quality images from normal-quality images and further generate the pseudo labels related to image quality for noncataract. Through this, the original binary-class label (cataract and noncataract) was adjusted to three categories (cataract, noncataract with normal-quality images, and noncataract with poor-quality images), which could be used to guide the model to distinguish cataract from suspected cataract fundus images. In the cataract classification stage, the convolutional-neural-network-based model was proposed to classify cataracts based on the label of the previous stage. The performance of the model was internally validated and externally tested in real-world settings, and the evaluation indicators included area under the receiver operating curve (AUC), accuracy (ACC), sensitivity (SEN), and specificity (SPE).Results: In the internal and external validation, the antiinterference AI model showed robust performance in cataract diagnosis (three classifications with AUCs >91%, ACCs >84%, SENs >71%, and SPEs >89%). Compared with the model that was trained on the binary-class label, the antiinterference cataract model improved its performance by 10%.Conclusion: We proposed an efficient antiinterference AI model for cataract diagnosis, which could achieve accurate cataract screening even with the interference of poor-quality images and help the government formulate a more accurate aid policy.

Effects of different nitrogen (N) compounds and concentrations on the growth of the three different phytoplankton taxa, Skeletonema costatum (Bacillariophyceae), Prorocentrum micans (Dinophyceae), and Chattonella marina (Raphidophyceae), were investigated. The Monod equation was applied to examine effects of N concentrations on the growth of algal cells. Results showed that nitrate (NO3-N) and urea served as good N sources for the three phytoplankton taxa. S. costatum grew well on all of the seven N sources. C. marina can effectively use the two amino acids, glycine (Gly) and serine (Ser), however cannot utilize alanine (Ala), threonine (Thr), and asparaginic acid (Asp). P. micans cannot grow in five amino acid substrates. All of the three phytoplankton taxa grew well under different proportions of urea-N, and C. marina grew significantly better in medium with both NO3- and urea-N. The values of maximum growth rate (µmax) and half-saturation nutrient concentration (KS) for NO3-N were 0.71 divisions d−1 and 53.55 µmol L−1 for S. costatum, 0.67 divisions d−1 and 23.31 µmol L−1 for P. micans, and 0.23 divisions d−1 and 17.57 µmol L−1 for C. marina, respectively. The results suggested that S. costatum had a high N demand for growth, and was capable of using wide ranges of N compounds. The strategy of N utilization for S. costatum may make this species an advantage in N-enriched sea areas especially the dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) rich coastal waters, which might be the reason why S. costatum widely distributes in the cosmopolitan coastal and estuarine sea areas.

A simple and efficient crystal film accelerated solvent microextraction (CF-ASME) technique was developed. In this study, the polyethylene pipe (PEP) with excellent comprehensive performance was used as the carrier of the extraction solvent, on which the crystal film was cured to improve its extraction capacity. The cured PEP was directly immersed in the sample phase solution to enrich the flavonoids (myricetin, quercetin, isorhamnetin, chrysin and kaempferide) in natural products. In addition, the extraction mechanism of the technique was elucidated. The important extraction variables were optimized including extraction solvent, the amount of NaCl required for crystal film preparation, salt concentration and pH of sample phase, stirring rate, extraction time, and volume of sample phase. Under the optimal conditions, the flavonoids were effectively enriched with the enrichment factors of 39.9-146.9 and they obtained good linearity with correlation coefficients higher than 0.99. The limits of detection were ranged between 0.5 and 30 ng/mL. Satisfactory accuracies (recoveries 89.4-104.8%) and precisions (relative standard deviations 5.8-11.2%) were also obtained. The proposed method was successfully applied for extraction and determination of flavonoids in natural products. Compared with the general accelerated solvent extraction methods, CF-ASME is simple to operate, green, high enrichment efficiency, which has a good application prospect.

In this work, ruthenium(II)-catalyzed C-C/C-N annulation of 2-arylquinazolinones with vinylene carbonate is reported to synthesize fused quinazolinones. This catalytic system tolerates a wide range of substrates with excellent functional-group compatibility. In this transformation, the vinylene carbonate acts as an ethynol surrogate without any external oxidant involved. Furthermore, preliminary mechanistic studies were conducted, and a plausible catalytic cycle was also proposed.

Segmentation of the liver from abdominal CT images is an essential step for computer-aided diagnosis and surgery planning. The U-Net architecture is one of the most well-known CNN architectures which achieved remarkable successes in both medical and biological image segmentation domain. However, it does not perform well when the target area is small or partitioned. In this paper, we propose a novel architecture, called dense feature selection U-Net (DFS U-Net), which addresses this challenging problem. Specifically, The Hounsfield unit values were windowed in a range to exclude irrelevant organs, and then use the pre-processed data to train our proposed DFS U-Net model. To further improve the segmentation accuracy of the small region and disconnected regions of interests with limited training datasets, we improve the loss function by adding a parameter to the formula. With respect to the ground truth, the Dice score ratio can reach over 94.9% for the liver. Our experimental results demonstrate its potential in clinical usage with high effectiveness, robustness and efficiency.

Rare earth elements (REEs) are increasingly used in the high-tech sectors in the world and are therefore called burgeoning contaminants. As diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) can be used to assess the bioavailability of inorganic matters, in this paper, we evaluated, for the first time, the ecotoxicology risks of REEs and their mixtures in river sediments of China's old industrial base by DGT. During our research, taking the Songhua River system (SRS) as an example, we detected its surficial sediments, of which the DGT-labile concentration of REEs (∑REEs) was 2.07-8.76 μg/L. As for the single toxicity, the risk quotient (RQ) values of Y at all sites were significantly greater than 1; while the values of Nd and Pr in some upstream reaches were all significantly greater than the threshold (1), indicating that these adverse effects of single REEs were not neglected. In terms of the combined toxicity of REEs mixtures, we carried out an assessment of the risks of probabilistic ecotoxicology, which showed that the SRS superficial sediments had a low probability of toxicity to aquatic organisms (0.54%).

We theoretically investigate the collective excitations of a one-dimensional Bose–Einstein condensate with both interparticle interaction and quantum fluctuation effect in an anharmonic trap. We derive the coupled equations of motions for the center-of-mass coordinate of the condensate and its width by using variational approaches. We find a reentrant behavior of the breathing mode and demonstrate that the anharmonic distortion may give rise to the collapse and revival of the collective excitations.

Three fractions of alkaline phosphatase activity (APA), including phytoplankton APA (phyto-APA), bacterial APA (bact-APA), and free-APA, were examined in the sea surface microlayer (SML) and the subsurface water (SSW) from Daya Bay, Guishan Island, and Guanghai Bay of southern China. Relationships between APA and environmental parameters were analyzed. The growth of phytoplankton was significantly limited by dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP) in the three sea areas, especially in Daya Bay. Total-APA ranged between 1.41 and 35.26 nmol/L/hr, and the highest value was found in Daya Bay. The increased APA in Daya Bay was the result of the increase of phytoplankton biomass and the response of phytoplankton to P limitation. Phyto-APA was the main contributor in Daya Bay, while phyto- and free-APA co-dominated in Guishan Island and Guanghai Bay. Bact-, phyto-, and total-APA showed a significant inverse power function relationship with DIP, and 0.2 μmol/L was the threshold for DIP on particulates and total-APA. Pearson correlation analysis suggested that DIP limitation together with high N levels enhanced APA. High water temperature and freshwater input accelerated APA as well. Principal component analysis clearly separated samples from the three sea areas, as well as from the SML and the SSW, which indicated the differences in environmental parameters and APA levels. Our results highlight the influence of phosphorus limitation and environmental parameters on APA.

This paper establishes a two-stage Hotelling model to identify the implications of the upgrades of durable goods produced by a spatial monopoly. The major findings indicate that, due to the positive effects on profits of the upgrading of products, the monopoly has the motivation to launch upgraded versions with high quality instead of solely producing products with low quality. The monopoly, meanwhile, would not make a commitment to either the high-quality products or the low-quality ones. In addition, the price of the low-quality products decreases as upgraded ones appear on the market in a second stage, since no consumers would store the low-quality products for future consumption.

Background Dinoflagellates are a group of unicellular organisms that are a major component of aquatic eukaryotes and important contributors to marine primary production. Nevertheless, many dinoflagellates are considered harmful algal bloom (HAB) species due to their detrimental environmental and human health impacts. Cyst formation is widely perceived as an adaptive strategy of cyst-forming dinoflagellates in response to adverse environmental conditions. Dinoflagellate cysts play critical roles in bloom dynamics. However, our insight into the underlying molecular basis of encystment is still limited. To investigate the molecular processes regulating encystment in dinoflagellates, transcriptome and metabolome investigations were performed on cold and darkness-induced pellicle cysts of Scrippsiella trochoidea. Results No significant transcriptional response was observed at 2 h; however, massive transcriptome and metabolome reprogramming occurred at 5 h and in pellicle cysts. The gene-to-metabolite network demonstrated that the initial transformation from vegetative cells into pellicle cysts was highly energy demanding through the activation of catabolism, including glycolysis, β-oxidation, TCA cycle and oxidative phosphorylation, to cope with cold-darkness-induced stress. However, after transformation into pellicle cysts, the metabolism was greatly reduced, and various sugars, polyunsaturated fatty acids and amino acids accumulated to prolong survival. The identification of 56 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) related to signal transduction indicated that S. trochoidea received a cold-darkness signal that activated multiple signal transduction pathways, leading to encystment. The elevated expression of genes encoding enzymes involved in ROS stress suggested that pellicle cysts respond to increased oxidative stress. Several cell cycle-related genes were repressed. Intriguingly, 11 DEGs associated with sexual reproduction suggested that pellicle cysts (or some portion thereof) may be a product of sexual reproduction. Conclusions This study provides the first transcriptome and metabolome analyses conducted during the encystment of S. trochoidea, an event that requires complex regulatory mechanisms and impacts on population dynamics. The results reveal comprehensive molecular regulatory processes underlying life cycle regulation in dinoflagellates involving signal transduction, gene expression and metabolite profile, which will improve our ability to understand and monitor dinoflagellate blooms.

To observe the effect of electroacupuncture preconditioning at "Zusanli"(ST36，Lower Confluent point) and "Zhongwan"(CV12，Front-Mu point) combination on oxidative stress and inflammation-related indicators, Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) and inhibitor-α of nuclear transcription factor κB (IκB-α) in serum and gastric tissue of rats with stress gastric ulcer(SGU)，so as to explore its mechanisms underlying prevention of SGU.A total of 36 Wistar rats were randomly divided into blank control, model, positive drug and He-Sea-Front-Mu point combination groups (The gastric mucosa of rats in the blank control group was smooth and intact, the cells were arranged neatly, and there was no telangiec-tasia, hyperemia and inflammatory cell infiltration. The gastric mucosal epithelial structure of rats in the model group was destroyed, and a large number of mucosal epithelial cell death and inflammatory cell infiltration were seen. The degree of gastric mucosal injury and inflammatory cell infiltration in the positive drug group and the combined point group was less than that in the model group. Compared with the blank control group, the UI and lesion score of rats in the model group were significantly increased (Electroacupuncture preconditioning at ST36 and CV12 can prevent SGU, which may be related to its effects in anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and regulating TLR4/MyD88/IκB signaling pathway.

Purpose. To assess the preventive effects of acupuncture at back-shu and front-mu acupoints on rats with restraint water-immersion stress (RWIS)-induced gastric ulcer. Methods. Thirty-six rats were randomly divided into four groups for 10 days of treatment as follows: the normal group received no treatment; the model group received RWIS-induced gastric ulcer; the omeprazole group was administered omeprazole orally every 2 days; and the electroacupuncture group received electroacupuncture at the RN12 and BL21 acupoints every 2 days. After 10 days of treatment, except for the normal group, all rats were induced with gastric ulcer by RWIS for 3 h. The ulcer index (UI), ulcer inhibition rate, and histopathological score were calculated. We determined the levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-6 in serum, and the activities of myeloperoxidase (MPO), malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), nitric oxide (NO), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in serum and gastric tissues. Protein expression of MyD88, nuclear factor (NF)-κB (p65), and toll-like receptor (TLR) 4 was quantified in gastric tissues. Results. The electroacupuncture and omeprazole groups were equivalent in terms of UI, ulcer inhibition rate, and histopathological score. To study the medication rules of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the treatment of premature ejaculation.We searched the databases of CNKI, Wan Fang, VIP, SinoMed (CBM) and PubMed for studies on the treatment of PE with TCM prescriptions and performed statistical analyses on the data obtained using the TCM inheritance auxiliary platform software.Totally 180 prescriptions were identified, involving 209 TCM drugs. The results of statistical analysis showed that the TCM drugs for the treatment of premature ejaculation were mostly warm, flat or cold in nature, sweet or spicy in taste, and with the kidney, liver and spleen meridian tropisms. The single TCM drugs most commonly used included Lycium barbarum L (Gouqizi), followed by Epimedium brevicornum Maxim (Yinyanghuo), Os draconis (Longgu), Fructus rosae laevigatae (Jinyingzi), and the drugs most frequently used in combination with others in a prescription were Os draconis (Longgu) and Concha ostreae (Muli). Seven newly derived prescriptions were identified in addition.The compatibility of TCM in the treatment of premature ejaculation is characterized by the combination of the drugs for tonifying the kidney and arresting seminal emission as the main medication strategy, with those for soothing the liver and invigorating the spleen as the adjuvant agents, which has a certain clinical application value.

Background: Hepatic fibrosis is an inflammatory liver disease, and there is no effective therapy at present. Astilbin is a bioactive ingredient found in many medicinal and food plants, with antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor properties. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the protective effect and related molecular mechanism of astilbin against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced liver fibrosis in rats. Methods: Liver fibrosis was induced by injection of CCl4 in male Sprague-Dawley rats, and those rats were then treated with astilbin at different concentrations. Pathological changes, collagen production, inflammatory cytokine, and oxidative stress were evaluated to evaluate the effects of astilbin on CCl4-induced hepatic fibrosis. Real-time PCR and western blot were performed to detect the mRNA and protein expression of indicated genes. Results: We discovered that CCl4 caused significant fibrosis damage in rat liver, and astilbin dose-dependently improved the liver functions and fibrosis degree. Astilbin treatment significantly decreased collagen production, inflammatory response, and oxidative stress in vivo. Mechanically, administration of astilbin obviously elevated the hepatic levels of Nrf2 and its downstream components, including NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase 1 (Nqo1), heme oxygenase (HO-1), glutamate-cysteine ligase catalytic subunit, and glutamate cysteine ligase modifier. Conclusions: Taken together, these findings demonstrate that astilbin could protect against CCL4 induced-liver fibrosis in rats.

Multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs) with higher population diversity have been extensively presented in literature studies and shown great potential in the approximate Pareto front (PF). Especially, in the recent development of MOEAs, the reference line method is increasingly favored due to its diversity enhancement nature and auxiliary selection mechanism based on the uniformly distributed reference line. However, the existing reference line method ignores the nadir point and consequently causes the Pareto incompatibility problem, which makes the algorithm convergence worse. To address this issue, a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm based on the adaptive cross-reference line method, called MOEA-CRL, is proposed under the framework of the indicator-based MOEAs. Based on the dominant penalty distance (DPD) indicator, the cross-reference line method can not only solve the Pareto incompatibility problem but also enhance the population diversity on the convex PF and improve the performances of MOEA-CRL for irregular PF. In addition, the MOEA-CRL adjusts the distribution of the cross-reference lines directly defined by the DPD indicator according to the contributing solutions. Therefore, the adaptation of cross-reference lines will not be affected by the population size and the uniform distribution of cross-reference lines can be maintained. The MOEA-CRL is examined and compared with other MOEAs on several benchmark problems. The experimental results show that the MOEA-CRL is superior to several advanced MOEAs, especially on the convex PF. The MOEA-CRL exhibits the flexibility in population size setting and the great versatility in various multiobjective optimization problems (MOPs) and many-objective optimization problems (MaOPs).

Using the first-principles calculations within the density functional-theory (DFT) framework, we theoretically investigated the surface reconstruction, surface states near the Fermi level and their passivation on CuIn0.75Ga0.25Se2 (1 1 2) (CIGS) surface by chlorine, fluorine and hydrogen. Surface reconstruction appears on CIG-terminated CIGS (1 1 2) surface and it is a self-passivation. For the locations of Cl, F and H atoms adsorbing on Se-terminated CIGS (1 1 2) surface, four high symmetry adsorption sites: top sites, bridge sites, hexagonal close-packed (hcp) sites and faced centered cubic (fcc) sites were studied respectively. With the coverage of 0.5 monolayer (ML), Cl, F and H adatoms energetically occupy the top sites on the CIGS (112) surface. The corresponding adsorption energies were −2.20 eV, −3.29 eV, −2.60 eV, respectively. The bond length and electronic properties were analyzed. We found that the surface state density near the Fermi level was markedly diminished for 0.5 ML Cl, F and H adsorption on Se-terminated CIGS (1 1 2) surface at top sites. It was also found that H can more efficiently passivate the surface state density than Cl and F atoms, and the effect of adsorption of Cl atoms is better than that of F.
