2. An Efficient h-Adaptive MoM for Modeling Composite Metallic-Dielectric Structures

Abstract

This letter introduces the surface magnetic current density into error estimations of the Rao–Wilton–Glisson (RWG) method of moments. Three combined error estimators are constructed and evaluated through correlation coefficients. In addition, an approximation scheme is incorporated with error estimators to accelerate the adaptive refinement procedure. Numerical examples, including composite metallic-dielectric structures, show that two of the error estimators can accurately indicate the regions with significant errors in meshed models and guide the mesh generation method to adaptively refine the corresponding triangles. The proposed method improves the modeling and computing efficiency of complex models.

10. A Novel Compact Conformal 2-D FDFD Method for Modeling Waveports in 3-D FDTD

Abstract

A novel compact conformal 2-D finite-difference frequency-domain (FDFD) method is proposed for modeling waveports in the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. To avoid time step reduction, the simplified conformal (SC) scheme is adapted to the standard FDTD formalism. Moreover, under the SC FDTD framework, the SC scheme is extended to the FDFD method to improve the accuracy of waveport mode calculations by solving eigenvalue equation. In order to improve the efficiency and practicality, the eigenvalue equation containing only two transverse electric field components is derived, and a spectral transformation is applied. Several examples including different types of waveguide structures are provided to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method.

11. An Efficient Goal-Oriented Adaptive Finite Element Method for Accurate Simulation of Complex Electromagnetic Radiation Problems

Abstract

A goal-oriented adaptive frequency-domain finite element method (FEM) for solving electromagnetic radiation problems including complex structures is presented in this article. Compared with the traditional adaptive FEM, the goal-oriented method can flexibly control the refined regions according to the parameters of interest; therefore, it has better convergence and has made significant progress in scattering problems and eigenvalue problems. To simulate complex antennas, this article proposes an error indicator with high accuracy and low computational cost, and it uses the adjoint problem to weight element residuals without additional degrees of freedom (DoF). Moreover, high-quality mesh refinement algorithms adapted to this indicator are developed using a suitable point insertion strategy for multiscale structures. By simulating two practical antennas, comparisons with the traditional goal-oriented FEM and the well-developed $h$ -adaptive FEM in commercial software demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method.

Abstract

In this paper, the higher-order moment method (HOMoM) hy-bridized with the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA) is used to simulate an array antenna that mounting in a large ground radome, so as to study the influence of radome on the radiation characteristics of the array antenna. Because the electrical size of the radome is very large and the array antenna usually contain complex materials and geometries, for their integrated model, it is difficult to perform accurate and efficient electromagnetic simulation adopting a single algorithm. Therefore, the parallel HOMoM-MLFMA hybrid algorithm is implemented in this paper to perform simulation. The calculation accuracy of the implemented hybrid algorithm is verified firstly. And then, an array antenna model is established and the array antenna is scanned mechanically to observe the change of the main lobe direction. Furthermore, an electromagnetic model integrating the array antenna and large ground radome is established, and the parallel HOMoM-MLFMA hybrid algorithm is used for its simulation. By comparing the radiation pattern of the array antenna before and after mounting in the radome, the influence of the large ground radome on the radiation characteristics of the array antenna is well reflected.
