Search

Strange-metal behavior has been observed in superconductors ranging from cuprates to pressurized nickelates, but its relationship to unconventional superconductivity remains elusive. Here, we perform operando superfluid density measurements on ion-gated FeSe films. We observe for the first time a synchronized evolution of superconducting condensate and the strange-metal phase with electron doping. A linear scaling between zero-temperature superfluid density and the strange-metal resistivity coefficient is further established, which nails down a direct link between the formation of superfluid in the superconducting state and the scattering of carriers in the strange-metal normal state. Remarkably, the scaling also applies for different iron-based and cuprate superconductors despite their distinct electronic structures and pairing symmetries. Such a correlation can be reproduced in a theoretical calculation on the two-dimensional Yukawa-Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model by considering a cooperative effect of quantum critical fluctuation and disorder. The intercalated iron selenide (Li,Fe)OHFeSe has a strongly layered structure analogous to the quasi two-dimensional (2D) bismuth cuprate superconductors, and exhibits both high-temperature (Tc) and topological superconductivity. However, the issue of its superconductivity dimensionality has not yet been fully investigated so far. Here we report that the quasi-2D superconductivity features, including the high anisotropy {\gamma} = 151 and the associated quasi-2D vortices, are also revealed for (Li,Fe)OHFeSe, based on systematic experiments of the electrical transport and magnetization and model fittings. Thus, we establish a new vortex phase diagram for (Li,Fe)OHFeSe, which delineates an emergent quasi-2D vortex-liquid state, and a subsequent vortex-solid dimensional crossover from a pancake-like to a three-dimensional state with decreasing temperature and magnetic field. Furthermore, we find that all the quasi-2D characteristics revealed here for the high-Tc iron selenide superconductor are very similar to those reported for the high-Tc bismuth cuprate superconductors., Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures

Fe$_y$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$, an archetypical iron-based high-temperature superconductor with a simple structure but rich physical properties, has attracted lots of attention because the two end compositions, Se content $x = 0$ and 1, exhibit antiferromagnetism and nematicity, respectively, making it an ideal candidate for studying their interactions with superconductivity. However, what is clearly lacking to date is a complete phase diagram of Fe$_y$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ as functions of its chemical compositions since phase separation usually occurs from $x\sim 0.6$ to 0.9 in bulk crystals. Moreover, fine control of its composition is experimentally challenging because both Te and Se are volatile elements. Here we establish a complete phase diagram of Fe$_y$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$, achieved by high-throughput film synthesis and characterization techniques. An advanced combinatorial synthesis process enables us to fabricate an epitaxial composition-spread Fe$_y$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ film encompassing the entire Se content $x$ from 0 to 1 on a single piece of CaF$_2$ substrate. The micro-region composition analysis and X-ray diffraction show a successful continuous tuning of chemical compositions and lattice parameters, respectively. The micro-scale pattern technique allows the mapping of electrical transport properties as a function of relative Se content with an unprecedented resolution of 0.0074. Combining with the spin patterns in literature, we build a detailed phase diagram that can unify the electronic and magnetic properties of Fe$_y$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$. The magneto-transport properties are systematically measured under c-direction fields up to 33 T for a series of single-crystal films of intercalated iron-selenide superconductor (Li,Fe)OHFeSe. The film samples with varying degree of disorder are grown hydrothermally. We observe a magnetic-field-enhanced shoulder-like feature in the mixed state of the high-Tc (Li,Fe)OHFeSe films with weak disorder, while the feature fades away in the films with enhanced disorder. The irreversibility field is significantly suppressed to lower temperatures with the appearance of the shoulder feature. Based on the experiment and model analysis, we establish a new vortex phase diagram for the weakly disordered high-Tc (Li,Fe)OHFeSe, which features an emergent dissipative vortex phase intermediate between the common vortex glass and liquid phases. The reason for the emergence of this intermediate vortex state is further discussed based on related experiments and models., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

Reproducing the electronic phase diagram of strongly correlated high-transition-temperature (high-Tc) superconductors in materials other than Cu-, Fe-, and Ni-based compounds has been a challenging task. Only very recently, a few material systems have partially achieved this goal by band engineering. In this work, we combine film growth, charge transport, magnetometry, Terahertz Spectroscopy, Raman scattering, and Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy to investigate superconductivity and the normal state of ZrNx, which reveals a phase diagram that bears extraordinary similarities to those of high-Tc superconductors. Remarkably, even though superconductivity of ZrNx can be characterized within the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer paradigm and its normal state can be understood within the Fermi liquid framework, by tunning the N chemical concentration, we observe the evolution of a superconducting dome in the close vicinity of a strongly insulating state and a normal state resistivity mimics its counterpart of the high-Tc superconductors., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures; high resolution figures at the end

Using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), we studied the evolution of the electronic structure of Fe1-xCuxSe from x = 0 to 0.10. We found that the Cu dopant introduces extra electron carriers. The hole bands near the gamma point are observed to steadily shift downward with increasing doping and completely sink down below the Fermi level (EF) for x > 0.05. Meanwhile, the electron pocket near the M point becomes larger but loses the spectral weight near EF. We also observed that effective mass of the electron band near the M point increases with doping. Our result explains why superconductivity disappears and metal insulator transition (MIT) like behavior occurs upon Cu doping in terms of electronic structure, and provide insight into emergent magnetic fluctuation in Fe1-xCuxSe.

Phase transitions governed by spontaneous time reversal symmetry breaking (TRSB) have long been sought in many quantum systems, including materials with anomalous Hall effect (AHE), cuprate high temperature superconductors, Iridates and so on. However, experimentally identifying such a phase transition is extremely challenging because the transition is hidden from many experimental probes. Here, using zero-field muon spin relaxation (ZF-$\mu$SR) technique, we observe strong TRSB signals below 70 K in the newly discovered kagome superconductor CsV$_3$Sb$_5$. The TRSB state emerges from the 2 x 2 charge density wave (CDW) phase present below ~ 95 K. By carrying out optical second-harmonic generation (SHG) experiments, we also find that inversion symmetry is maintained in the temperature range of interest. Combining all the experimental results and symmetry constraints, we conclude that the interlayer coupled chiral flux phase (CFP) is the most promising candidate for the TRSB state among all theoretical proposals of orbital current orders. Thus, this prototypical kagome metal CsV3Sb5 can be a platform to establish a TRSB current-ordered state and explore its relationship with CDW, giant AHE, and superconductivity., Comment: 17 pages, 3 figures

The angular-dependent magnetoresistance (AMR) of the ab plane is measured on the single crystals of FeSe1-xSx (x = 0, 0.07, 0.13 and 1) and FeSe1-yTey (y = 0.06, 0.61 and 1) at various temperatures under fields up to 9 T. A pronounced twofold-anisotropic carrier-scattering effect is identified by AMR, and attributed to a magnetic-field-induced spin nematicity that emerges from the tetragonal normal-state regime below a characteristic temperature Tsn. This magnetically polarized spin nematicity is found to be ubiquitous in the isoelectronic FeSe1-xSx and FeSe1-yTey systems, no matter whether the sample shows an electronic nematic order at Ts < Tsn, or an antiferromagnetic order at TN < Tsn, or neither order. Importantly, we find that the isoelectronic substitution with sulfur does not suppress but even enhances the characteristic Tsn of the induced spin nematicity in FeSe1-xSx samples. This contrasts sharply with their rapidly suppressed Ts, the transition temperature of the spontaneous electronic nematicity. Furthermore, we find that the superconductivity is significantly suppressed with the enhancement of the induced spin nematicity in both FeSe1-xSx and FeSe1-yTey samples., Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, plus supplemental material

The electronic and superconducting properties of Fe1-xSe single-crystal flakes grown hydrothermally are studied by the transport measurements under zero and high magnetic fields up to 38.5 T. The results contrast sharply with those previously reported for nematically ordered FeSe by chemical-vapor-transport (CVT) growth. No signature of the electronic nematicity, but an evident metal-to-nonmetal crossover with increasing temperature, is detected in the normal state of the present hydrothermal samples. Interestingly, a higher superconducting critical temperature Tc of 13.2 K is observed compared to a suppressed Tc of 9 K in the presence of the nematicity in the CVT FeSe. Moreover, the upper critical field in the zero-temperature limit is found to be isotropic with respect to the field direction and to reach a higher value of ~42 T, which breaks the Pauli limit by a factor of 1.8., Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures

CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ is a newly discovered Kagome superconductor that attracts great interest due to its topological nontrivial band structure and the coexistence of superconductivity and charge-density-wave (CDW) with many exotic properties. Here, we report the detailed characterization of the CDW gap in high-quality CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ single crystals using high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. We find that the CDW gap is strongly momentum dependent. While gapped around the $M$ point, the electronic states remain gapless around the $\Gamma$ point and along the $\Gamma$-$K$ direction. Such momentum dependence indicates that the CDW is driven by the scattering of electrons between neighboring $M$ points, where the band structure hosts multiple saddle points and the density of state diverges near the Fermi level. Our observations of the partially gapped Fermi surface and strongly momentum-dependent CDW gap not only provide a foundation for uncovering the mechanism of CDW in CsV$_3$Sb$_5$, but also shed light on the understanding of how the CDW coexists with superconductivity in this topological Kagome superconductor., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures

We systematically measure the superconducting (SC) and mixed state properties of high-quality CsV3Sb5 single crystals with Tc ~ 3.5 K. We find that the upper critical field Hc2(T) exhibits a large anisotropic ratio of Hc2^(ab)/Hc2^(c) ~ 9 at zero temperature and fitting its temperature dependence requires a minimum two-band effective model. Moreover, the ratio of the lower critical field, Hc1^(ab)/Hc1^(c), is also found to be larger than 1, which indicates that the in-plane energy dispersion is strongly renormalized near Fermi energy. Both Hc1(T) and SC diamagnetic signal are found to change little initially below Tc ~ 3.5 K and then to increase abruptly upon cooling to a characteristic temperature of ~2.8 K. Furthermore, we identify a two-fold anisotropy of in-plane angular-dependent magnetoresistance in the mixed state. Interestingly, we find that, below the same characteristic T ~ 2.8 K, the orientation of this two-fold anisotropy displays a peculiar twist by an angle of 60o characteristic of the Kagome geometry. Our results suggest an intriguing superconducting state emerging in the complex environment of Kagome lattice, which, at least, is partially driven by electron-electron correlation., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures

Dramatic evolution of properties with minute change in the doping level is a hallmark of the complex chemistry which governs cuprate superconductivity as manifested in the celebrated superconducting domes as well as quantum criticality taking place at precise compositions. The strange metal state, where the resistivity varies linearly with temperature, has emerged as a central feature in the normal state of cuprate superconductors. The ubiquity of this behavior signals an intimate link between the scattering mechanism and superconductivity. However, a clear quantitative picture of the correlation has been lacking. Here, we report observation of quantitative scaling laws between the superconducting transition temperature $T_{\rm c}$ and the scattering rate associated with the strange metal state in electron-doped cuprate $\rm La_{2-x}Ce_xCuO_4$ (LCCO) as a precise function of the doping level. High-resolution characterization of epitaxial composition-spread films, which encompass the entire overdoped range of LCCO has allowed us to systematically map its structural and transport properties with unprecedented accuracy and increment of $\Delta x = 0.0015$. We have uncovered the relations $T_{\rm c}\sim(x_{\rm c}-x)^{0.5}\sim(A_1^\square)^{0.5}$, where $x_c$ is the critical doping where superconductivity disappears on the overdoped side and $A_1^\square$ is the scattering rate of perfect $T$-linear resistivity per CuO$_2$ plane. We argue that the striking similarity of the $T_{\rm c}$ vs $A_1^\square$ relation among cuprates, iron-based and organic superconductors is an indication of a common mechanism of the strange metal behavior and unconventional superconductivity in these systems., Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures

Iron selenide (FeSe) - the structurally simplest iron-based superconductor, has attracted tremendous interest in the past years. While the transition temperature (Tc) of bulk FeSe is $\sim$ 8 K, it can be significantly enhanced to 40 - 50 K by various ways of electron doping. However, the underlying physics for such great enhancement of Tc and so the Cooper pairing mechanism still remain puzzles. Here, we report a systematic study of the superconducting- and normal-state properties of FeSe films via ionic liquid gating. With fine tuning, Tc evolves continuously from below 10 K to above 40 K; in situ two-coil mutual inductance measurements unambiguously confirm the gating is a uniform bulk effect. Close to Tc, the normal-state resistivity shows a linear dependence on temperature and the linearity extends to lower temperatures with the superconductivity suppressed by high magnetic fields. At high fields, the normal-state magnetoresistance exhibits a linear-in-field dependence and obeys a simple scaling relation between applied field and temperature. Consistent behaviors are observed for different-Tc states throughout the gating process, suggesting the pairing mechanism very likely remains the same from low- to high-Tc state. Importantly, the coefficient of the linear-in-temperature resistivity is positively correlated with Tc, similarly to the observations in cuprates, Bechgaard salts and iron pnictide superconductors. We studied the electronic Raman spectra of (Li$_{1-x}$Fe$_x$)OHFeSe as a function of light polarization and temperature. In the B$_{1g}$ spectra alone we observe the redistribution of spectral weight expected for a superconductor and two well-resolved peaks below T$_c$. The nearly resolution-limited peak at 110 cm$^{-1}$ (13.6 meV) is identified as a collective mode. The peak at 190 cm$^{-1}$ (23.6 meV) is presumably another collective mode since the line is symmetric and its energy is significantly below the gap energy observed by single-particle spectroscopies. Given the experimental band structure of (Li$_{1-x}$Fe$_x$)OHFeSe, the most plausible explanations include conventional spin-fluctuation pairing between the electron bands and the incipient hole band and pairing between the hybridized electron bands. The absence of gap features in A$_{1g}$ and B$_{2g}$ symmetry favors the second case. Thus, in spite of various differences between the pnictides and chalcogenides, this Letter demonstrates the proximity of pairing states and the importance of band structure effects in the Fe-based compounds., Comment: 9 pages, 12 figures

Here we establish a combined electronic phase diagram of isoelectronic FeSe1-xSx (0.19 > x > 0.0) and FeSe1-yTey (0.04 < y < 1.0) single crystals. The FeSe1-yTey crystals with y = 0.04 - 0.30 are grown by a hydrothermal ion-deintercalation (HID) method. Based on combined experiments of the specific heat, electrical transport, and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, no signature of the tetragonal-symmetry-broken transition to orthorhombic (nematic) phase is observed in the HID FeSe1-yTey samples, as compared with the FeSe1-xSx samples showing this transition at Ts. A ubiquitous dip-like temperature dependence of the Hall coefficient is observed around a characteristic temperature T* in the tetragonal regimes, which is well above the superconducting transition. More importantly, we find that the superconducting transition temperature Tc is positively correlated with the Hall-dip temperature T* across the FeSe1-xSx and FeSe1-yTey systems, suggesting that the tetragonal background is a fundamental host for the superconductivity., Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures

Our recent year's studies of the prototypal FeSe and molecule-intercalated (Li,Fe)OHFeSe superconductor systems are briefly reviewed here, with emphasis on experimental observations of the link between the superconductivity and normal-state electronic property in the single crystals and films. These samples were successfully synthesized by our recently developed soft-chemical hydrothermal methods, which are also briefly described. Particularly in the Mn-doped high-Tc (Li,Fe)OHFeSe film, a strong enhancement of the superconducting critical current density was achieved, which is promising for practical application of the superconductivity., Comment: 28 pages, 12 figures

Critical current density (Jc) is one of the major limiting factors for high field applications of iron-based superconductors. Here, we report that Mn-ions are successfully incorporated into nontoxic superconducting (Li,Fe)OHFeSe films. Remarkably, the Jc is significantly enhanced from 0.03 to 0.32 MA/cm^2 under 33 T, and the vortex pinning force density monotonically increases up to 106 GN/m^3, which is the highest record so far among all iron-based superconductors. Our results demonstrate that Mn incorporation is an effective method to optimize the performance of (Li,Fe)OHFeSe films, offering a promising candidate for high-field applications., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

Spinel compounds have demonstrated rich functionalities but rarely shown superconductivity. Here, we report the emergence of superconductivity in the spinel $\mathrm{MgTi}_2\mathrm{O}_4$, known to be an insulator with a complicated order. The superconducting transition is achieved by engineering a superlattice of $\mathrm{MgTi}_2\mathrm{O}_4$ and $\mathrm{SrTiO}_3$. The onset transition temperature in the $\mathrm{MgTi}_2\mathrm{O}_4$ layer can be tuned from 0 to 5 K in such geometry, concurrently with a stretched $c$-axis (from 8.51 to 8.53 \AA) compared to the bulk material. Such a positive correlation without saturation suggests ample room for the further enhancement. Intriguingly, the superlattice exhibits isotropic upper critical field $H_{\mathrm{c}2}$ that breaks the Pauli limit, distinct from the highly anisotropic feature of interface superconductivity. The origin of superconductivity in the $\mathrm{MgTi}_2\mathrm{O}_4$ layer is understood in combination with the electron energy loss spectra and the first-principles electronic structure calculations, which point to the birth of superconductivity in the $\mathrm{MgTi}_2\mathrm{O}_4$ layer by preventing the Ti-Ti dimerization. Our discovery not only provides a platform to explore the interplay between the superconductivity and other exotic states, but also opens a new window to realize superconductivity in the spinel compounds as well as other titanium oxides., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

High-field electrical transport and point-contact tunneling spectroscopy were used to investigate superconducting properties of the unique spinel oxide, LiTi$_2$O$_{4-\delta}$ films with various oxygen content. We find that the upper critical field $B_\mathrm{c2}$ gradually increases as more oxygen impurities are brought into the samples by carefully tuning the deposition atmosphere. It is striking that although the superconducting transition temperature and energy gap are almost unchanged, an astonishing isotropic $B_\mathrm{c2}$ up to $\sim$ 26 Tesla is observed in oxygen-rich sample, which is doubled compared to the anoxic sample and breaks the Pauli limit. Such anomalies of $B_\mathrm{c2}$ were rarely reported in other three dimensional superconductors. Combined with all the anomalies, three dimensional spin-orbit interaction induced by tiny oxygen impurities is naturally proposed to account for the remarkable enhancement of $B_\mathrm{c2}$ in oxygen-rich LiTi$_2$O$_{4-\delta}$ films. Such mechanism could be general and therefore provides ideas for optimizing practical superconductors with higher $B_\mathrm{c2}$.

There is an ongoing debate about the relative importance of structural change versus doping charge carriers on the mechanism of superconductivity in Fe-based materials. Elucidating this issue is a major challenge since it would require a large number of samples where structure properties or the carrier density is systematically varied. FeSe, with its structural simplicity, is an ideal platform for addressing this question. It has been demonstrated that the superconductivity in this material can be controlled through crystal lattice tuning, as well as electronic structure manipulation. Here, we apply a high-throughput methodology to FeSe to systematically delineate the interdependence of its structural and electronic properties. Using a dual-beam pulsed laser deposition, we have generated FeSe films with a marked gradient in the superconducting transition temperature (below 2 K < Tc < 12 K) across 1 cm width of the films. The Tc gradient films display ~ 1% continuous stretch and compression in the out-of-plane and in-plane lattice constants respectively, triggering the continuous enhancement of superconductivity. Combining transport and angular-resolved photoemission measurements on uniform FeSe films with tunable Tc from 3 K to 14 K, we find that the electron carrier density is intimately correlated with Tc, i.e., it increases by a factor of 6 and ultimately surpasses the almost constant hole concentration. Our transmission electron microscope and band structure calculations reveal that rather than by shifting the chemical potential, the enhanced superconductivity is linked to the selective adjustment of the dxy band dispersion across the Fermi level by means of reduced local lattice distortions. Therefore, such novel mechanism provides a key to understand discrete superconducting phases in FeSe., Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures

The phenomenon of phase separation into antiferromagnetic (AFM) and superconducting (SC) or normal-state regions has great implication for the origin of high-temperature (high-Tc) superconductivity. However, the occurrence of an intrinsic antiferromagnetism above the Tc of (Li, Fe)OHFeSe superconductor is questioned. Here we report a systematic study on a series of (Li, Fe)OHFeSe single crystal samples with Tc up to ~41 K. We observe an evident drop in the static magnetization at Tafm ~125 K, in some of the SC (Tc < ~38 K, cell parameter c < ~9.27 {\AA}) and non-SC samples. We verify that this AFM signal is intrinsic to (Li, Fe)OHFeSe. Thus, our observations indicate mesoscopic-to-macroscopic coexistence of an AFM state with the normal (below Tafm) or SC (below Tc) state in (Li, Fe)OHFeSe. We explain such coexistence by electronic phase separation, similar to that in high-Tc cuprates and iron arsenides. However, such an AFM signal can be absent in some other samples of (Li, Fe)OHFeSe, particularly it is never observed in the SC samples of Tc > ~38 K, owing to a spatial scale of the phase separation too small for the macroscopic magnetic probe. For this case, we propose a microscopic electronic phase separation. It is suggested that the microscopic static phase separation reaches vanishing point in high-Tc (Li, Fe)OHFeSe, by the occurrence of two-dimensional AFM spin fluctuations below nearly the same temperature as Tafm reported previously for a (Li, Fe)OHFeSe (Tc ~42 K) single crystal. Magnetism induced by external pressure ($p$) was studied in a FeSe crystal sample by means of muon-spin rotation. The magnetic transition changes from second-order to first-order for pressures exceeding the critical value $p_{{\rm c}}\simeq2.4-2.5$ GPa. The magnetic ordering temperature ($T_{{\rm N}}$) and the value of the magnetic moment per Fe site ($m_{{\rm Fe}}$) increase continuously with increasing pressure, reaching $T_{{\rm N}}\simeq50$~K and $m_{{\rm Fe}}\simeq0.25$ $\mu_{{\rm B}}$ at $p\simeq2.6$ GPa, respectively. No pronounced features at both $T_{{\rm N}}(p)$ and $m_{{\rm Fe}}(p)$ are detected at $p\simeq p_{{\rm c}}$, thus suggesting that the stripe-type magnetic order in FeSe remains unchanged above and below the critical pressure $p_{{\rm c}}$. A phenomenological model for the $(p,T)$ phase diagram of FeSe reveals that these observations are consistent with a scenario where the nematic transitions of FeSe at low and high pressures are driven by different mechanisms., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figyres

The superconducting film of (Li1-xFex)OHFeSe is reported for the first time. The thin film exhibits a small in-plane crystal mosaic of 0.22 deg, in terms of the FWHM (full-width-at-half-maximum) of x-ray rocking curve, and an excellent out-of-plane orientation by x-ray phi-scan. Its bulk superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of 42.4 K is characterized by both zero electrical resistance and diamagnetization measurements. The upper critical field (Hc2) is estimated to be 79.5 T and 443 T, respectively, for the magnetic field perpendicular and parallel to the ab plane. Moreover, a large critical current density (Jc) of a value over 0.5 MA/cm2 is achieved at ~20 K. Such a (Li1-xFex)OHFeSe film is therefore not only important to the fundamental research for understanding the high-Tc mechanism, but also promising in the field of high-Tc superconductivity application, especially in high-performance electronic devices and large scientific facilities such as superconducting accelerator., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

Stabilized FeSe thin films in ambient pressure with tunable superconductivity would be a promising candidate for superconducting electronic devices yet its superconducting transition temperature (Tc) is below 10 K in bulk materials. By carefully controlling the depositions on twelve kinds of substrates using pulsed laser deposition technique, high quality single crystalline FeSe samples were fabricated with full width of half maximum 0.515? in the rocking curve and clear four-fold symmetry in phi-scan from x-ray diractions. The films have a maximum Tc 15 K on the CaF2 substrate and do not show obvious decay in the air for more than half a year. Slightly tuning the stoichiometry of the FeSe targets, the Tc becomes adjustable from 15 to < 2 K with quite narrow transition widths less than 2 K, and shows a positive relation with the out-of-plane (c-axis) lattice parameter of the films. However, there is no clear relation between the Tc and the surface atomic distance of the substrates. By reducing the thickness of the films, the Tc decreases and fades away in samples of less than 10 nm, suggesting that the strain effect is not responsible for the enhancement of Tc in our experiments., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

We report the success in introducing Mn into (Li1-xFex)OHFe1-ySe superconducting crystals by applying two different hydrothermal routes, ion exchange (1-Step) and ion release/introduction (2-Step). The micro-region x-ray diffraction and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy analyses indicate that the Mn has been doped into the lattice, and its content in the 1-Step fabricated sample is higher than that in the 2-Step one. Magnetic susceptibility and electric transport properties reveal that Mn doping influences little on the superconducting transition, regardless of 1-Step or 2-Step routes. By contrast, the characteristic temperature, T*, where the negative Hall coefficient reaches its minimum, is significantly reduced by Mn doping. This implies that the reduction of the hole carriers contribution is obviously modified, and hence the hole band might have no direct relationship with the superconductivity in (Li1-xFex)OHFe1-ySe superconductors. Our present hydrothermal methods of ion exchange and ion release/introduction provide an efficient way for elements substitution/doping into (Li1-xFex)OHFe1-ySe superconductors, which will promote the in-depth investigations on the role of multiple electron and hole bands and their interplay with the high-temperature superconductivity in the FeSe-based superconductors., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, accept by Chinese Physics B

We report high pressure studies of the structural stability of Ru2Sn3, a new type of three dimensional topological insulator (3D-TI) with unique quasi-one dimensional Dirac electron states throughout the surface Brillouin zone of its one-atmosphere low temperature orthorhombic form. Our in-situ high-pressure synchrotron x-ray diffraction and electrical resistance measurements reveal that upon increasing pressure the tetragonal to orthorhombic shifts to higher temperature. We find that the stability of the orthorhombic phase that hosts the non-trivial topological ground state can be pushed up to room temperature by an applied pressure of ~ 20 GPa. This is in contrast to the commonly known 3D-TIs whose ground state is usually destroyed under pressure. Our results indicate that pressure provides a possible pathway for realizing a room-temperature topological insulating state in Ru2Sn3., Comment: 12 pages and 4 figures

The magnetic order induced by the pressure was studied in single crystalline FeSe by means of muon-spin rotation ($\mu$SR) technique. By following the evolution of the oscillatory part of the $\mu$SR signal as a function of angle between the initial muon-spin polarization and 101 axis of studied crystal it was found that the pressure induced magnetic order in FeSe corresponds either to the collinear (single-stripe) antiferromagnetic order as observed in parent compounds of various FeAs-based superconductors or to the Bi-Collinear order as obtained in FeTe system, but with the Fe spins turned by 45$^{\rm o}$. The value of the magnetic moment per Fe atom was estimated to be $\simeq 0.13-0.14$~$\mu_{\rm B}$ at $p\simeq 1.9$~GPa., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures. SmB6 is a promising candidate material that promises to elucidate the connection between strong correlations and topological electronic states, which is a major challenge in condensed matter physics. The electron correlations are responsible for the development of multiple gaps in SmB6, whose elucidation is sorely needed. Here we do so by studying the evolutions of the gaps and other corresponding behaviors under pressure. Our measurements of the valence, Hall effect and electrical resistivity clearly identify the gap which is associated with the bulk Kondo hybridization and, moreover, uncover a pressure-induced quantum phase transition from the putative topological Kondo insulating state to a Fermi-liquid state at ~4 GPa. We provide the evidences for the transition by a jump of inverse Hall coefficient, a diverging tendency of the electron-electron scattering coefficient and, thereby, a destruction of the Kondo entanglement in the ground state. These effects take place in a mixed-valence background. One of the most strikingly universal features of the high temperature superconductors is that the superconducting phase emerges in the close proximity of the antiferromagnetic phase, and the interplay between these two phases poses a long standing challenge. It is commonly believed that,as the antiferromagnetic transition temperature is continuously suppressed to zero, there appears a quantum critical point, around which the existence of antiferromagnetic fluctuation is responsible for the development of the superconductivity. In contrast to this scenario, we report the discovery of a bi-critical point identified at 2.88 GPa and 26.02 K in the pressurized high quality single crystal Ca0.73La0.27FeAs2 by complementary in situ high pressure measurements. At the critical pressure, we find that the antiferromagnetism suddenly disappears and superconductivity simultaneously emerges at almost the same temperature, and that the external magnetic field suppresses the superconducting transition temperature but hardly affects the antiferromagnetic transition temperature., Comment: 15 pages and 4 figures

Non-centrosymmetric superconductors, whose crystal structure is absent of inversion symmetry, have recently received special attentions due to the expectation of unconventional pairings and exotic physics associated with such pairings. The newly discovered superconductors A2Cr3As3 (A=K, Rb), featured by the quasi-one dimensional structure with conducting CrAs chains, belongs to such kind of superconductor. In this study, we are the first to report the finding that the superconductivity of A2Cr3As3 (A=K, Rb) has a positive correlation with the extent of non-centrosymmetry. Our in-situ high pressure ac susceptibility and synchrotron x-ray diffraction measurements reveal that the larger bond angle of As-Cr-As in the CrAs chains can be taken as a key factor controlling superconductivity. While the smaller bond angle and the distance between the CrAs chains also affect the superconductivity due to their structural connections with the angle. We find that the larger value of the difference between the larger and samller angles, which is associated with the extent of the non-centrosymmetry of the lattice structure, is in favor of superconductivity. These results are expected to shed a new light on the underlying mechanism of the superconductivity in these Q1D superconductors and also to provide new perspective in understanding other non-centrosymmetric superconductors., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures

The role played by the insulating intermediate (Li$_{0.84}$Fe$_{0.16}$)OH layer on magnetic and superconducting properties of (Li$_{0.84}$Fe$_{0.16}$)OHFe$_{0.98}$Se was studied by means of muon-spin rotation. It was found that it is not only enhances the coupling between the FeSe layers for temperatures below $\simeq 10$ K, but becomes superconducting by itself due to the proximity to the FeSe ones. Superconductivity in (Li$_{0.84}$Fe$_{0.16}$)OH layers is most probably filamentary-like and the energy gap value, depending on the order parameter symmetry, does not exceed 1-1.5 meV., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures. The mechanism of high temperature superconductivity in the iron-based superconductors remains an outstanding issue in condensed matter physics. The electronic structure, in particular the Fermi surface topology, is considered to play an essential role in dictating the superconductivity. Recent revelation of distinct electronic structure and possible high temperature superconductivity with a transition temperature Tc above 65 K in the single-layer FeSe films grown on the SrTiO3 substrate provides key information on the roles of Fermi surface topology and interface in inducing or enhancing superconductivity. Here we report high resolution angle-resolved photoemission measurement on the electronic structure and superconducting gap of a novel FeSe-based superconductor, (Li0.84Fe0.16)OHFe0.98Se, with a Tc at 41 K. We find that this single-phase bulk superconductor shows remarkably similar electronic behaviors to that of the superconducting single-layer FeSe/SrTiO3 film in terms of Fermi surface topology, band structure and nearly isotropic superconducting gap without nodes. These observations provide significant insights in understanding high temperature superconductivity in the single-layer FeSe/SrTiO3 film in particular, and the mechanism of superconductivity in the iron-based superconductors in general., Comment: 17 Pages, 4 Figures

A large and high-quality single crystal (Li0.84Fe0.16)OHFe0.98Se, the optimal superconductor of newly reported (Li1-xFex)OHFe1-ySe system, has been successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal ion-exchange technique. The superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of 42 K is determined by magnetic susceptibility and electric resistivity measurements, and the zero-temperature upper critical magnetic fields are evaluated as 79 and 313 Tesla for the field along the c-axis and the ab-plane, respectively. The ratio of out-of-plane to in-plane electric resistivity,\r{ho}c/\r{ho}ab, is found to increases with decreasing temperature and to reach a high value of 2500 at 50 K, with an evident kink occurring at a characteristic temperature T*=120 K. The negative in-plane Hall coefficient indicates that electron carriers dominate in the charge transport, and the hole contribution is significantly reduced as the temperature is lowered to approach T*. From T* down to Tc, we observe the linear temperature dependences of the in-plane electric resistivity and the magnetic susceptibility for the FeSe layers. Our findings thus reveal that the normal state of (Li0.84Fe0.16)OHFe0.98Se becomes highly two-dimensional and anomalous prior to the superconducting transition, providing a new insight into the mechanism of high-Tc superconductivity., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, supplementary information is not uploaded

In-situ hydrostatic and uniaxial high pressure studies were performed on recently discovered CrAs-based qausi-one-dimensional superconductors A2Cr3As3 (A=K and Rb). The established Pressure-Temperature phase diagram in this study clearly demonstrates that either hydrostatic pressure or uniaxial pressure globally suppresses the superconducting transition temperature (Tc), and the latter is more effective than the former. Interestingly, in the same hydrostatic pressure environment, the suppressing rate of Tc in Rb2Cr3As3 is nearly twice as that of K2Cr3As3. Significantly, the reduced Tc in these superconductors can fully recover to its ambient-pressure value after the applied pressure is entirely released. Our results suggest that the bonding distance and angle between Cr-Cr in the Cr3As3 chains are the key factor in determining Tc and that the optimal lattice for superconductivity is hosted in the pristine K2Cr3As3., Comment: We include some results of this paper in another paper

The recent discovery of large and non-saturating magnetoresistance (LMR) in WTe2 provides a unique playground to find new phenomena and significant perspective for potential applications. Here we report the first observation of superconductivity near the proximity of suppressed LMR state in pressurized WTe2 through high-pressure synchrotron X-ray diffraction, electrical resistance, magnetoresistance, and ac magnetic susceptibility measurements. It is found that the positive magnetoresistance effect can be turned off at a critical pressure of 10.5 GPa without crystal structure change and superconductivity emerges simultaneously. The maximum superconducting transition temperature can be reached to 6.5 K at ~15 GPa and it decreases down to 2.6 K at ~25 GPa. In-situ high pressure Hall coefficient measurements at 10 K demonstrate that elevating pressure decreases hole carrier's population but increases electron carrier's population. Significantly, at the critical pressure, we observed a sign change in the Hall coefficient, indicating a possible Lifshitz-type quantum phase transition in WTe2., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures
