9. The impact of green supply chain management on sustainability performance in Chinese manufacturing companies

Abstract

This paper utilises technological innovation to investigate and examine the impact of GSCM on the sustainable development of companies. To achieve this objective, we conducted a survey among manufacturing companies in China and analysed data collected from 451 firms. We employed statistical software such as SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0. The Chinese manufacturing industry served as our research focus, and we conducted an empirical study on the effects of GSCM and sustainability performance, considering the mediating variable of technological innovation. Our findings revealed that technological innovation, acting as a mediator, has a partial mediating effect on the relationship between GSCM and sustainability performance. To continually enhance sustainable development, companies must persist in investing in scientific research, embracing cutting-edge technologies and talent, and reinforcing their competitiveness. The contribution of our research lies in expanding the GSCM framework by incorporating technological innovation into the theory, while offering valuable guidance through empirical evidence.

Abstract

Purpose Recent studies revealed that immunological mechanisms play a prominent role in the pathogenesis of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). Given the importance of the immune response in PDR and the significance of the programmed death 1 (PD-1) pathway as an immune regulatory pathway, the aim of this study is to determine the expression and functional characteristics of the PD-1 pathway in peripheral blood lymphocytes from patients with PDR. Methods Peripheral blood lymphocytes were obtained from patients with PDR, age-matched patients with diabetes mellitus and no diabetic retinopathy (DM-NDR), and controls. The mRNA expression of PD-1 and its ligands were determined using real-time PCR. The frequencies of PD-1 and its ligands, activation-induced apoptosis, IFN-γ, and IL-4 were determined by flow cytometry. Results The PD-1 mRNA expression markedly decreased, while the frequency of PD-1+ cells increased in the PDR group compared with the DM-NDR and control groups. The expression of PD-ligand 1 (PD-L1) mRNA and PD-L1+ cells in the PDR group was lower than that in the other two groups. In the PDR group, the frequency of Annexin V+PI- and Annexin V+PI-PD-1+ cells increased, while the frequency of Annexin V+PI-PD-L1+ cells decreased. Although their expression was upregulated, the ratio of PD-1+ IFN-γ+ to PD-1+IL-4+ cells in the PDR group was not significantly different to that in the DM-NDR and control groups. Conclusions These results suggest that PD-1 is involved in the development of PDR by mediating activation-induced apoptosis.

Abstract

With the development and application of the double antigen sandwich method for quantification of hepatitis B core antibody (HBcAb) in recent years, there is increasing knowledge of the ability of HBcAb to reflect the body′s anti-viral capability. This article introduces the commonly used measurement methods for HBcAb and the new trends in HBcAb measurement and summarizes the association of serum HBcAb level with viral antigen and the body′s immune response, as well as research advances in effective prediction of antiviral effect with baseline HBcAb measurement before antiviral therapy. It is also pointed out that the clinical application of HBcAb needs further investigation.

20. Optimization of Healthcare Delivery System under Uncertainty: Schedule Elective Surgery in an Ambulatory Surgical Center and Schedule Appointment in an Outpatient Clinic

Abstract

This work investigates two types of scheduling problems in the healthcare industry. One is the elective surgery scheduling problem in an ambulatory center, and the other is the appointment scheduling problem in an outpatient clinic. The ambulatory surgical center is usually equipped with an intake area, several operating rooms (ORs), and a recovery area. The set of surgeries to be scheduled are known in advance. Besides the surgery itself, the sequence-dependent setup time and the surgery recovery are also considered when making the scheduling decision. The scheduling decisions depend on the availability of the ORs, surgeons, and the recovery beds. The objective is to minimize the total cost by making decision in three aspects, number of ORs to open, surgery assignment to ORs, and surgery sequence in each OR. The problem is solved in two steps. In the first step, we propose a constraint programming model and a mixed integer programming model to solve a deterministic version of the problem. In the second step, we consider the variability of the surgery and recovery durations when making scheduling decisions and build a two stage stochastic programming model and solve it by an L-shaped algorithm. The stochastic nature of the outpatient clinic appointment scheduling system, caused by demands, patient arrivals, and service duration, makes it difficult to develop an optimal schedule policy. Once an appointment request is received, decision makers determine whether to accept the appointment and put it into a slot or reject it. Patients may cancel their scheduled appointment or simply not show up. The no-show and cancellation probability of the patients are modeled as the functions of the indirect waiting time of the patients. The performance measure is to maximize the expected net rewards, i.e., the revenue of seeing patients minus the cost of patients' indirect and direct waiting as well as the physician's overtime. We build a Markov Decision Process model and proposed a backward induction algorithm to obtain the optimal policy. The optimal policy is tested on random instances and compared with other heuristic policies. The backward induction algorithm and the heuristic methods are programmed in Matlab.

21. [Clinical significance of peripheral blood circular DNA level measurements in patients with acute myocardial infarction].

Abstract

Objective: To explore clinical value of circular DNA in acute myocardial infarction., Methods: Venous blood (2 ml/head) of 40 healthy control and 40 patients with acute myocardial infarction within 48h of onset of illness and convalescent period was collected. The level of plasma circular DNA was detected by duplex real-time polymerase chain reaction assay. The levels of myocardial enzyme spectrum and cardiac troponin T (cTnT) were detected by biochemistry method., Results: The level of circular DNA in control group and group of acute myocardial infarction before treatment was (21.5 +/- 10.7) ng/ml and (253.6 +/- 45.7) ng/ml, respectively (P = 0.000). The levels of serum myocardial enzyme spectrum and cTnT before treatment in patients with acute myocardial infarction were significantly higher than those of control group (P < 0.05). The level of circular DNA after treatment in patients with acute myocardial infarction was significantly decreased compared with that before treatment (P = 0.000), the levels of myocardial enzyme spectrum and cTnT were also significantly reduced (P < 0.05). There was significant correlation between the level of circular DNA and those of CK-MB and cTnT, r = 0.613, 0.654, P = 0.032, 0.021., Conclusion: Circular DNA can be used as a marker of sensitively reflecting myocardial cell injury.
