Precision space inertial sensors are imperative to Earth geodesy missions, gravitational wave observations and several fundamental physics experiments in space. In these missions, the residual acceleration noise of the test mass(TM) caused by the forces from inertial sensor components and environment is supposed to be kept below a certain level. As a number of forces contributing to residual acceleration are related to actuation system, developing a precise actuation system to exclude any erroneous force and obtain an ultra sensitive value for TM acceleration noise is necessary and essential. However, it is difficult to test the actuation system on ground. In this paper, a torsion pendulum is established to test the influence of actuation system on TM torque noise and a closed-loop control system combined torsion pendulum and parts of actuation modules is designed to assess the performance of actuation control algorithm. The experimental results show that the parameters in an actuation system will introduce additional torque noise and the maximum noise can reach as much as 10^{-13}Nm /Hz^{1/2} at 1 mHz. The stable tracking error for the closed-loop system is about 10^{-7}, indicating that the combination system achieves good tracking performance and robustness for TM rotation control in different conditions of inertial sensors., Comment: 9 pages, 14 figures

Non-proportional hazards (NPH) are often observed in clinical trials with time-to-event endpoints. A common example is a long-term clinical trial with a delayed treatment effect in immunotherapy for cancer. When designing clinical trials with time-to-event endpoints, it is crucial to consider NPH scenarios to gain a complete understanding of design operating characteristics. In this paper, we focus on group sequential design for three NPH methods: the average hazard ratio, the weighted logrank test, and the MaxCombo combination test. For each of these approaches, we provide analytic forms of design characteristics that facilitate sample size calculation and bound derivation for group sequential designs. Examples are provided to illustrate the proposed methods. To facilitate statisticians in designing and comparing group sequential designs under NPH, we have implemented the group sequential design methodology in the gsDesign2 R package at https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/gsDesign2/.

Environmental sustainability is crucial for Integrated Circuits (ICs) across their lifecycle, particularly in manufacturing and use. Meanwhile, ICs using 3D/2.5D integration technologies have emerged as promising solutions to meet the growing demands for computational power. However, there is a distinct lack of carbon modeling tools for 3D/2.5D ICs. Addressing this, we propose 3D-Carbon, an analytical carbon modeling tool designed to quantify the carbon emissions of 3D/2.5D ICs throughout their life cycle. 3D-Carbon factors in both potential savings and overheads from advanced integration technologies, considering practical deployment constraints like bandwidth. We validate 3D-Carbon's accuracy against established baselines and illustrate its utility through case studies in autonomous vehicles. We believe that 3D-Carbon lays the initial foundation for future innovations in developing environmentally sustainable 3D/2.5D ICs. In statistics, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) is a regression method that performs both variable selection and regularization. There is a lot of literature available, discussing the statistical properties of the regression coefficients estimated by the Lasso method. However, there lacks a comprehensive review discussing the algorithms to solve the optimization problem in Lasso. In this review, we summarize five representative algorithms to optimize the objective function in Lasso, including the iterative shrinkage threshold algorithm (ISTA), fast iterative shrinkage-thresholding algorithms (FISTA), coordinate gradient descent algorithm (CGDA), smooth L1 algorithm (SLA), and path following algorithm (PFA). Additionally, we also compare their convergence rate, as well as their potential strengths and weakness.

In covariate-adaptive or response-adaptive randomization, the treatment assignment and outcome can be correlated. Under this situation, re-randomization tests are a straightforward and attractive method to provide valid statistical inference. In this paper, we investigate the number of repetitions in the re-randomization tests. This is motivated by the group sequential design in clinical trials, where the nominal significance bound can be very small at an interim analysis. Accordingly, re-randomization tests lead to a very large number of required repetitions, which may be computationally intractable. To reduce the number of repetitions, we propose an adaptive procedure and compare it with multiple approaches under pre-defined criteria. Monte Carlo simulations are conducted to show the performance of different approaches in a limited sample size. We also suggest strategies to reduce total computation time and provide practical guidance in preparing, executing and reporting before and after data are unblinded at an interim analysis, so one can complete the computation within a reasonable time frame.

Count data occur widely in many bio-surveillance and healthcare applications, e.g., the numbers of new patients of different types of infectious diseases from different cities/counties/states repeatedly over time, say, daily/weekly/monthly. For this type of count data, one important task is the quick detection and localization of hot-spots in terms of unusual infectious rates so that we can respond appropriately. In this paper, we develop a method called Poisson assisted Smooth Sparse Tensor Decomposition (PoSSTenD), which not only detects when hot-spots occur but also localizes where hot-spots occur. The main idea of our proposed PoSSTenD method is articulated as follows. First, we represent the observed count data as a three-dimensional tensor including (1) a spatial dimension for location patterns, e.g., different cities/countries/states; (2) a temporal domain for time patterns, e.g., daily/weekly/monthly; (3) a categorical dimension for different types of data sources, e.g., different types of diseases. Second, we fit this tensor into a Poisson regression model, and then we further decompose the infectious rate into two components: smooth global trend and local hot-spots. Third, we detect when hot-spots occur by building a cumulative sum (CUSUM) control chart and localize where hot-spots occur by their LASSO-type sparse estimation. The usefulness of our proposed methodology is validated through numerical simulation studies and a real-world dataset, which records the annual number of 10 different infectious diseases from 1993 to 2018 for 49 mainland states in the United States., Comment: 7 figures, 22 pages, 4 tables

The conventional phase II trial design paradigm is to make the go/no-go decision based on the hypothesis testing framework. Statistical significance itself alone, however, may not be sufficient to establish that the drug is clinically effective enough to warrant confirmatory phase III trials. We propose the Bayesian optimal phase II trial design with dual-criterion decision making (BOP2-DC), which incorporates both statistical significance and clinical relevance into decision making. Based on the posterior probability that the treatment effect reaches the lower reference value (statistical significance) and the clinically meaningful value (clinical significance), BOP2-DC allows for go/consider/no-go decisions, rather than a binary go/no-go decision, and it is optimized to maximize the probability of a go decision when the treatment is effective or minimize the sample size when the treatment is futile. BOP2-DC is highly flexible and accommodates various types of endpoints, including binary, continuous, time-to-event, multiple, and co-primary endpoints, in single-arm and randomized trials.
