31. Microstructure and corrosion performance of CoCrFeNiSixcoatings deposited by magnetron sputtering at various negative bias voltages

Abstract

In this work, CoCrFeNiSixcoatings were fabricated by magnetron sputtering at the negative bias voltage ranging from 0 to 100 V. The effect of negative bias voltage on the composition, microstructure and corrosion performance was studied. The results show that all CoCrFeNiSixcoatings consisted of amorphous and nanocrystalline FCC phases. However, the ratio of both amorphous/nanocrystalline phases and Si/(Co + Cr + Fe + Ni) atoms decreased with increasing negative bias voltage. Applying negative bias voltage also led to the improved surface quality. Accordingly, the corrosion rate of CoCrFeNiSixcoatings in 0.5 mol/L H2SO4solution exhibited a decreasing trend. Meanwhile, the CoCrFeNiSixcoating deposited at 100 V had the lowest passive current density, highest coating resistance and lowest carrier density. This was because that Si competed with Cr to suppress the formation of Cr2O3in the compact inner layer, and thus the decreasing Si content caused by increasing negative bias voltage led to the improved protection effect of the passive film.

42. Design of Superhydrophobic CoFe 2 O 4 Solar Seawater Desalination Device and Its Application in Organic Solvent Removal.

Abstract

Environmental pollution and clean water production are challenges to the development of human society. In this paper, devices consisting of a superhydrophobic Ni-CoFe2O4 foam layer (floating layer), a hydrophilic channel and a superhydrophilic Ni-CoFe2O4 foam layer (photothermal conversion layer) were designed. The light energy was converted into heat on the photothermal layer, for which the hydrophilic channel provided a small amount of water. The superhydrophobic layer ensured the floating and selective adsorption of organic solvents on the water surface, whose contact angle reached 157°, and the steam production rate reached 1.68 kg·m−2·h−1. Finally, the LSV curve demonstrated that the Ni-CoFe2O4 foam prepared had a minimum starting potential, achieving the multifunctionality of the Ni foam. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In this study, the ductile cast irons were prepared by the melting process and then carried out the quenching and partitioning heat treatment. The microstructures were observed by both an optical microscopy and a field emission scanning electron microscope and the tensile strengths were measured by a uniaxial tensile tester. The effect of partitioning time on the microstructures and the tensile strength were investigated. The results showed that the matrix of as-cast samples contain about 26% ferrite and 74% pearlite and the microstructure quenched without partitioning consisted of a mixture of graphite nodules plus lath martensite plus retained austenite. With the increase of the partitioning time, the retained austenite became stable and could transform into lower bainite or carbide gradually, which gave rise to the fact that the tensile strength changed nonlinearly and reached a maximum at the partitioning time about 120 minutes.

Abstract

The widely acknowledged water splitting catalysis as an alternative to fossil fuel combustion becomes unproductive due to the involved sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER) kinetics. Therefore, it is extremely urgent and significant to develop an inexpensive OER catalyst with fast reaction dynamics, high efficiency and long-term stability. To address such issues, herein, for the first time, we present a novel vertical Fe(OH)3/Ni9S8 nanoarrays electrocatalyst that can rapidly fabricated on etched stainless steel (ESS) via a facile and swift electrodeposition process. The Fe(OH)3/Ni9S8/ESS exhibits excellent OER performance with ultra-low overpotential of 206 mV at 10 mA cm−2 (far better than RuO2/ESS) and shows outstanding long-term stability. The terrific OER performance can be attributed to the integration of well-designed nanoarchitecture, and the coupling effect between Fe(OH)3 and Ni9S8. The direct nanoarrays electrodeposition on highly conductive ESS substrate not only facilitate the rapid electron transfer for enhanced performance, but also improve the mechanical properties to ensure long-term stability. Additionally, the well-designed porous nanoarray guarantees abundant catalytically active sites exposure, facilitate the electrolyte penetration and promote the O2 bubble release. Interestingly, the systematically fabricated Fe(OH)3 outer layer can prevent the direct contact of Ni9S8 layer with alkaline electrolyte to avoid surface oxidation during catalysis.
