Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are an emerging class of nano-crystalline polymers known for their outstanding chemical stability, exceptionally high surface area, and highly ordered structures, making them ideal candidates for gas capture applications. In particular, the two imine-linked FM-COFs possess a versatile, microporous architecture integrated with nitrogen-rich heteroatoms. These heteroatoms are evenly distributed throughout the structure, from the walls to the linkers, enhancing gas interaction and improving adsorption efficiency. Owing to these advantages, FM-COFs demonstrated a carbon dioxide capacity of 82.6 cm3 g−1 at 273 K and an iodine uptake of 3.98 g g−1 at 350 K. The synergistic effect of microporosity and heteroatom functionality makes these COFs highly effective for selective gas adsorption and radioactive iodine uptake. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Climate and geological diversity have been proven to make an important contribution to biodiversity. Volcanic ecosystems often have a long geological history and diverse bedrock, thus shaping a variety of habitats. Understanding the relative importance and role of the contemporary climate and geological bedrock environment in volcanic biodiversity still needs further exploration. To address this knowledge gap, we investigated the patterns of plant diversity and phylogenetic structure at the community level in Qiniangshan Mountain, while also exploring the relationship between biodiversity and regional environmental factors (e.g., climate and bedrock types). In the Qiniangshan Mountain plant communities, species richness is higher at mid-to-high elevations. Montane communities exhibit higher species richness compared to coastal communities. There are significant differences in species richness among plant communities on different bedrock, with the highest species richness found on pyroclastic lava. Bedrock, along with climate factors related to energy and precipitation, collectively influence the patterns of species richness in plant communities. The Net Relatedness Index (NRI) of plant communities is influenced by climate factors and aspects, while the Nearest Taxon Index (NTI) is affected by both bedrock and climate factors. The Phylogenetic Diversity Index (PDI) is primarily related to climate factors. Climate and bedrock collectively influence the patterns of species richness and phylogenetic structure within Qiniangshan Mountain's plant communities. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a novel type of nanoporous and crystalline polymers with a precise and highly conjugated skeleton, making them promising candidates for constructing emissive materials. However, the strong high conjugation structures between adjacent layers easily lead to aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) of emission properties. In this study, we have designed COFs with a flexible skeleton to suppress ACQ effects, enhancing their luminescence activity. In addition, the high density of nitrogen and oxygen atoms on these flexible walls serves as binding sites for hydrogen bonding interactions, indicating sensitivity and selectivity towards nitro-explosives. Background X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLHR) is the most common genetic form of hypophosphatemic rickets (HR), which is caused by phosphate regulating endopeptidase homolog X-linked (PHEX) gene mutation. At present, the genotype–phenotype relationship of XLHR and the pathogenic role of PHEX are not fully understood. Methods In this study, we summarized clinical features in a new cohort of 49 HR patients and detected 16 novel PHEX and 5 novel non-PHEX variants. Subsequently, we studied the pathogenesis of new variants by protein expression, glycosylation analysis, subcellular localization, and endopeptidase activity. Results The results showed that missense variants (Q189H and X750R) slightly reduced protein expression without obviously altering protein length and localization, whereas truncating variants significantly impaired the synthesis of PHEX and produced a shorter immature protein in cells. Interestingly, no evident correlation was observed between mutation types and clinical phenotypes. However, when we analyzed the relationship between PHEX activity and serum phosphorus level, we found that patients with low PHEX activity tended to have severe hypophosphatemia and high rickets severity score. Following this observation, we established 2 new knock-in XLHR mouse models with 2 novel Phex variants (c.T1349C and c.C426G, respectively) using CRISPR/Cas9 technology. Both mouse models demonstrated clinical manifestations of XLHR seen in patients, and PhexC426G mice showed more severe phenotype than PhexT1349C mice, which further confirmed the rationality of genotype–PHEX enzymatic activity correlation analysis. Conclusion Therefore, our findings demonstrated that novel PHEX variants could disrupt protein function via affecting protein synthesis, post-translational modification, cellular trafficking, and catalytic activity. Our study facilitates a better understanding of XLHR pathogenic mechanism and PHEX activity-phenotype correlation, which is of crucial importance for future diagnosis and treatment of XLHR. Many holly species are dominant species in evergreen broad-leaved forests, and they play an important role in the formation and maintenance of forest ecosystems in tropical and subtropical regions. Here, a new holly species (Ilex danxiaensis K. W. Xu & Q. Fan) of Aquifoliaceae was discovered from Guangdong, China, when conducting biodiversity investigations in the Danxia landform. We inferred the phylogenetic position of the new species based on sequences from three nuclear markers, namely internal transcribed spacer (ITS), external transcribed spacer (ETS), and chloroplast glutamine synthetase gene (nepGS). The results demonstrated a close relationship among the new species and members of I. sect. Lioprinos. The inferred phylogenetic position of the new species is also supported by morphological evidence that all of these species are characterized by having axillary cymes inflorescences and abaxially 1-sulcate pyrenes. However, the new species can be distinguished from others by having puberulent branchlets, petioles, peduncles, and pedicel; (1–)2–3-flowered cymes of male inflorescences; 1-flowered cymes of female inflorescences; ciliate sepals, 4-merous flowers, pink or white female flowers; and 4 pyrenes.
