Little research to date has focused on a social network perspective in the field of knowledge hiding. Therefore, based on a three-wave examination of 222 Chinese employees, we integrated affective events theory and social network theory to investigate how individual network positions become cogent boundary conditions in the process of role stress influencing knowledge hiding through emotional exhaustion. Results revealed that role stress affected knowledge hiding through emotional exhaustion. We further posited that network centrality negatively moderated the effect of role stress on emotional exhaustion. Furthermore, structural holes positively moderated the effect of role stress on emotional exhaustion. Taking the perspective of the hidden object in knowledge hiding of higher education institutions (HEIs), this article explores how HEI students' perceived knowledge hiding (PKH) affects their knowledge resources in the form of academic creativity and academic performance. Based on social information processing (SIP) theory, we investigate the mediating role of perceived social undermining (PSU) and the moderating role of proactive personality. Using time-lag data from 306 HEI students collected in China, we found that PKH was a strong predictor of PSU, and PSU mediated the negative relationship between PKH and academic creativity and academic performance. In addition, proactive personality not only played a moderating role between PKH and PSU, but also moderated the negative indirect effect of PKH on academic creativity and academic performance (through PSU). This study seeks to explore the effect of the quality of supervisor-subordinate relationship (i.e., leader-member exchange; LMX) on employee creativity by examining a moderated-mediation model. The model focuses on the mediating role of perceived insider status and the moderating role of perceived LMX differentiation in influencing the mediation. Using a time-lagged research design, we collected data from 358 supervisor-subordinate dyads in a large Chinese diversified company. As predicated, we found that (a) perceived insider status mediated the positive relationship between LMX and employee creativity; and (b) perceived LMX differentiation moderated the strength of the mediated relationship between LMX and employee creativity via perceived insider status, such that the mediated relationship is stronger under high-perceived LMX differentiation than under low-perceived LMX differentiation.

Drawing on conservation of resources theory, we hypothesize that work alienation promotes knowledge hiding through emotional exhaustion and that job mobility moderates the relationship between work alienation and emotional exhaustion. We conducted two time-lagged studies in China to test our research model. Studies 1 and 2 found that work alienation was positively related to knowledge hiding and that emotional exhaustion mediated this relationship. Study 2 revealed that job mobility attenuated the positive effect of work alienation on emotional exhaustion and the indirect effects of work alienation on evasive hiding, playing dumb, and rationalized hiding via emotional exhaustion. The present research sheds valuable light on the processes (how) and contingencies (when) whereby work alienation affects knowledge hiding for the first time, thus extending prior research and encouraging further explorations on the topic of work alienation and knowledge hiding. Applying an affective events lens, we argue that request politeness may evoke emotional experiences (happiness, anger), which influence subsequent knowledge hiding (evasive hiding, playing dumb, and rationalized hiding). Based on data of 210 full-time knowledge employees who provided 1,195 daily surveys, results of multilevel path analyses showed that request politeness was positively associated with happiness and negatively associated with anger. Furthermore, happiness was only negatively associated with playing dumb and mediated the effects of request politeness on playing dumb. While anger was positively associated with all three knowledge hiding types and mediated the effects of request politeness on knowledge hiding.
