Objective To explore the effects of Colla corii asini (CCA) (common name E’jiao) on lung function and pathological injury of the lung tissue in rats with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods Twenty-five rats were randomly divided into the control group, COPD model group and treatment group with low, medium and high-doses of CCA (1, 2, 4 g/kg), with 5 rats in each group. The COPD model group and treatment groups were modeled by cigarette smoke exposure with a concentration of (1 100±10)mg/m3 once a day, 90 minutes each time, for 48 consecutive weeks. After the end of the next day, the CCA groups were given by daily oral gavage treatment for 28 days. Lung function was detected by animal lung function instrument and the pathological changes of the lung tissue were assessed by HE staining and microscopy. Results Compared with the control group, TV, EV, Te, RT, EEP and Penh were significantly increased in the COPD model group(P＜0.05), while PEF, PIF, MV, EF50 and f(B) were significantly decreased (P＜0.05). Inflammation and pathological changes of emphysema were observed, and lung tissue lesions were aggravated. Compared with the COPD model group, Te, RT and Penh were significantly reduced in the high-dose CCA group (P＜0.05), while MV, PIF and EF50 were significantly higher (P＜0.05). Less infiltration of inflammatory cells, less alveolar expansion and fewer pulmonary bullae were observed in high-dose CCA-treated rats. The degree of emphysema was reduced, and pathological damage to lung tissue was clearly alleviated. Conclusions CCA improves lung function and alleviates the inflammatory response of the lung tissue in COPD rats.

Objective To investigate the nutritional status and its influencing factors in children with newly diagnosed inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of children who were diagnosed with IBD for the first time in Hunan Children's Hospital from January 2015 to December 2021. Diagnostic delay was defined as the time from the symptom onset to IBD diagnosis being in the upper quartile (P76-P100) of all IBD children in the study. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to explore the risk factors for emaciation and growth retardation. Results A total of 125 children with newly diagnosed IBD were included, with Crohn's disease being the main type (91.2%). The rates of emaciation and growth retardation were 42.4% (53 cases) and 7.2% (9 cases), respectively, and the rate of anemia was 77.6% (97 cases). Diagnostic delay was noted in 31 children (24.8%), with the time from the symptom onset to IBD diagnosis of 366 to 7 211 days. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that diagnostic delay was a risk factor for emaciation and growth retardation (OR=2.73 and OR=4.42, respectively; P<0.05) and that age was positively associated with emaciation (OR=1.30, P<0.05). Conclusions Children with newly diagnosed IBD have poor nutritional status, and the rates of anemia, emaciation, and growth retardation are high. Enantiomers of chiral ester derivatives containing an amide group, and possessing one or two stereogenic centers were prepared from L‐ and D‐α‐amino acids, and glycine with (S)‐ and (R)‐mandelic acid for probing their chiral recognition as a new class of chiral guests by 1H NMR spectroscopy, since chiral ester derivatives have been rarely used as chiral substrates for chiral recognition by 1H NMR technology. The results indicated that these chiral ester derivatives have been successfully differentiated in the presence of tetraaza macrocyclic chiral solvating agents (TAMCSAs) 1 a–1 c. In order to better understand their chiral discriminating behavior, Job plots, association constants (Ka), and theoretical calculations of (S,S)‐G1 and (R,R)‐G1, as a representative example, were performed, respectively. In order to evaluate their practical application, the 1H NMR spectra of G1 and G9 with various optical purities were measured (up to 98 % ee). Chlamydia trachomatis, an obligate intracellular bacterial pathogen, is the major cause of sexually transmitted diseases worldwide. Although a variety of strategies have been taken to promote the development of a protective vaccine, no ideal vaccine has been generated so far. In this study, we transfected dendritic cells (DCs) with recombinant adenovirus carrying C. trachomatis serovar E major outer membrane protein gene (Ad-MOMP), and investigated their ability to induce specific protection against genital tract chlamydial challenge infection. The results showed that when DCs were transfected with Ad-MOMP in vitro, the DCs exhibited increased expression of CD80 and MHC-II molecules as well as enhanced IL-12 secretion and were able to stimulate T-cell proliferation. The level of IFN-γ secreted by stimulated T cells was also up-regulated significantly. When the Ad-MOMP transfected DCs were adoptively transferred intravenously to naive mice, they generated Th1-biased cytokine production and mucosal IgA responses specific for C. trachomatis. More importantly, the mice immunized with Ad-MOMP-DC mounted protection against genital tract challenge infection, shown by lower body mass loss, lower chlamydial loads, and less severe pathological changes. In conclusion, Ad-MOMP transfected DCs are capable of inducing effective protective immune responses against C. trachomatis genital infection. Chlamydia trachomatis est un pathogene intracellulaire oblige principalement responsable des maladies transmises sexuellement a travers le monde. Meme si une variete de strategies ont ete developpees pour promouvoir le developpement d'un vaccin prophylactique, aucun vaccin ideal n'a encore ete; produit. Dans cette etude, nous avons transfecte des cellules dendritiques (CD) avec un adenovirus recombinant comportant le gene codant la proteine MOMP, la proteine majeure de la membrane externe de Ct (Ad-MOMP), et nous avons examine; leur capacite d'induire une protection specifique contre l'infection provoquee du tractus genital. Les resultats ont revele que lorsque les CD etaient transfectees avec AdMOMP in vitro, elles presentaient une augmentation de l'expression de CD80 et des molecules du CMH-II, ainsi qu'une secretion accrue d'IL-2, et qu'elles pouvaient stimuler la proliferation des lymphocytes T. Le niveau d'lFN-γ secrete par les lymphocytes T stimulesetait aussi significativement plus eleve. Lorsque les CD transfectees avec l'Ad-MOMP etaient transferees de maniere adoptive par voie intraveineuse dans des souris nalves, elles generaient une production de cytokines de type Th1 et une reponse IgA des voies muqueuses specifique a C. trachomatis. Fait plus important encore, les souris immunisees avec Ad-MOMP developpaient une protection contre l'infection genitale provoquee, demontree par une perte de poids moins importante, une charge en Chlamydia moins elevee et des changements pathologiques moins severes. En conclusion, les CD transfectees avec Ad-MOMP pouvaient induire une protection immuniaire efficace contre l'infection genitale a Chlamydia trachomatis. Objective To study the clinical features of intestinal polyps and the risk factors for secondary intussusception in children. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed for the medical data of 2 669 children with intestinal polyps. According to the presence or absence of secondary intussusception, they were divided into two groups: intussusception (n=346) and non-intussusception (n=2 323). Related medical data were compared between the two groups. The multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify the risk factors for secondary intussusception. Results Among the children with intestinal polyps, 62.42% were preschool children, and the male/ female ratio was 2.08 : 1; 92.66% had hematochezia as disease onset, and 94.34% had left colonic polyps and rectal polyps. There were 346 cases of secondary intussusception, with an incidence rate of 12.96% (346/2 669). Large polyps (OR=1.644, P<0.001), multiple polyps (≥2) (OR=6.034, P<0.001), and lobulated polyps (OR=93.801, P<0.001) were the risk factors for secondary intussusception. Conclusions Intestinal polyps in children often occur in preschool age, mostly in boys, and most of the children have hematochezia as disease onset, with the predilection sites of the left colon and the rectum. Larger polyps, multiple polyps, and lobulated polyps may increase the risk of secondary intussusception, and endoscopic intervention is needed as early as possible to improve prognosis.
