Abstract

The succession mode of interim CEO is highly uncertain. The smooth transition function of interim CEO is particularly important in the process of enterprise reform. We divide interim CEOs into potential successors and transition successors. Then we empirically analyze the heterogeneous impact and mechanism of interim CEOs on firm performance. The results show that compared with transition CEO, potential CEO has less negative impact on corporate performance. Interim CEO has a negative impact on enterprise performance by reducing agency efficiency. The mechanism analysis of this paper are as follows. For the potential CEO, strong incentive constraints can effectively mitigate the negative impact of the succession on corporate performance. For a transitional CEO, superior personal capabilities coupled with an effective oversight mechanism represent more optimal solutions. In today's corporate landscape, the frequencies of executive changes and interim successions are on the rise annually. Abstract

Aberrantly activated c-MET signaling occurs in several cancers, promoting the development of c-MET inhibitors. In this study, we found that eight of eight thyroid cancer cell lines (including six anaplastic thyroid cell lines) have prominent expression of c-MET protein. Fifty percent of the thyroid cancer cell lines (four of eight) were growth inhibited by two small molecule c-MET inhibitors (tivantinib and crizotinib) associated with apoptosis and G(2)-M cell-cycle arrest. However, crizotinib did not inhibit 50% proliferation of thyroid cancer cells (SW1736 and TL3) at a concentration at which the drug completely inhibited ligand-stimulated c-MET phosphorylation. However, tivantinib was less potent than crizotinib at inhibiting c-MET phosphorylation, but was more potent than crizotinib at decreasing cell growth. Suppressing c-MET protein expression and phosphorylation using siRNA targeting c-MET did not induce cell-cycle arrest and apoptosis. Taken together, tivantinib and crizotinib have off-target(s) activity, contributing to their antitumor activity. In vivo study showed that crizotinib markedly inhibited the growth of thyroid cancer cells (SW1736) in immunodeficient mice. In summary, c-MET inhibitors (tivantinib and crizotinib) suppress the growth of aggressive thyroid cancer cells, and this potential therapeutic benefit results from their non-MET-targeting effects.

Abstract

To overcome the limitation of photocatalysts with dual functionality of water oxidation and proton reduction, we proposed a novel bismuth-based Ba2BiV3O11 (BBVO) photocatalyst, which can simultaneously drive the proton reduction reaction under UV light and water oxidation reaction under visible light. After doping with sulfur through an in situ vulcanization strategy, the light absorption and charge separation efficiencies of the sulfur-doped BBVO were significantly improved, thus boosting its oxygen evolution activity (64 μmol h−1) by more than 16 times compared with independent BBVO. The experimental results demonstrate that BBVO can be employed as a very promising bismuth-based photocatalyst for solar energy conversion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Visible‐light‐responsive bismuth‐based oxyhalide has recently attracted extensive attention, however, the promotion of its charge separation is still challenging. Herein, we introduce iodine into Bi2GdO4Cl to synthetize I‐doped Bi2GdO4Cl (denoted as yI−Bi2GdO4Cl, 0≤y≤2). The incorporation of I− ions is found to enhance light absorption and to accelerate charge separation by combining various characterizations such as density functional theory calculation, photoelectrochemical test, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectrum, and open‐circuit voltage decay. The O2‐evolving performances of 1I−Bi2GdO4Cl with optimized dopant concentration of I− ion and IrO2 loaded 1I−Bi2GdO4Cl are tremendously enhanced by ca. 4 and 45 times compared to pristine Bi2GdO4Cl. Notably, The O2 evolution rate reaches as high as 154.8 μmol ⋅ h−1 with an apparent quantum efficiency of ∼1.1 % at 420 nm. The synthetic iodine‐doped photocatalyst remains stable after long‐term photoreaction, demonstrating its potential in the field of photocatalysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

However, such treatment has not been used to treat cancer patients clinically. The mechanism and optimal dosages of this treatment have not been established. Subsequent animal experiments confirmed this effect, but all previous studies in animal models used human IgG which was heterogeneous to the animal hosts and therefore could adversely interfere with the results.Materials and methods: We tested different dosages of mouse IgG in treating and preventing three syngeneic cancer types (melanoma, colon cancer, and breast cancer) in three immune potent mouse models. The expression of Ki67, CD34, VEGF, MMPs, and cytokines in tumor tissues were examined with immunohistochemistry or quantitative real-time PCR to evaluate tumor proliferation, vascularization, metastasis, and proinflammatory response in the tumor microenvironment.Results: We found that low-dose IgG could effectively inhibit cancer progression, regulate tumor vessel normalization, and prolong survival. Administration of IgG before cancer cell inoculation could also prevent the development of cancer. In addition, IgG caused changes in a number of cytokines and skewed macrophage polarization toward M1-like phenotype, characterized by proinflammatory activity and inhibition of proliferation of cancer cells.Conclusion: Our findings suggest that nonspecific IgG at low dosages could be a promising candidate for cancer prevention and treatment. Abstract

The present research was focused on dynamic detection of fresh jujube varieties by visible and near-infrared spectroscopy. In the part of data gathering, fresh jujube was moving at the constant velocity of 0.1 m · s-1 on the conveyor belt, and the visible and near-infrared diffuse reflectance spectrum (350∼2500nm) was captured. In the part of data processing, moving average was employed to eliminate the spectra noise. Then the least square support vector machines (LS-SVM) models were established with the original spectra and the de-noised spectra (500∼1500nm) of 255samples in the calibration set. At last, the models those were the Original/LS-SVM model and the Smooth/LS-SVM were used to predict the varieties of 90 samples in the prediction set. The results showed that the discrimination accuracy (95.56%) for the fresh jujube varieties by Original/LS-SVM model was slightly higher than the discrimination accuracy (91.11%) for the fresh jujube varieties by Smooth/LS-SVM model. And the fitting result of the former was better than the fitting result of the latter. So the Original /LS-SVM model can be taken as a dynamic detection method to detect fresh jujube varieties, but the precision and stability in the model is needed to be further improved.
