Abstract

Gas temperature plays an important role in the characterization of plasma parameters. The temperature evolution of stem roots during the dark period is at the heart of our understanding of the physical mechanism of streamer to the leader transition process in a long spark discharge. The quantitative schlieren system with high spatiotemporal resolution was designed to conduct positive leader discharge experiments with a 1.0 m rod-plate gap at atmospheric pressure, and the amplitude and rise time of positive impulse voltage waveforms were 380 kV and 200 μs, respectively. The time-resolved quantitative schlieren images of the discharge channel near the electrode tip can be captured to gather the temperature data of stem roots for case study. Further statistical tests revealed that due to the dispersion of the first streamer discharge, there were three evolutionary trends of gas temperature at the axis of the stem root in the early dark period. Interestingly, the gas temperature at the axis of the stem root was maintained at 1000–1200 K in regardless of the evolutionary trend in the early dark period. In addition, the statistical results indicate that there is a significant positive correlation between the curvature radius of the discharge electrode tip and the critical charge value Qcrit of the first streamer discharge, which leads to a transition in evolutionary trends of gas temperature at the axis of the stem root. Abstract

Tea is beneficial to human health, which is rich in tea pigments with important biological activities. Theabrownin, derived from theaflavins and thearubigins by oxidative polymerization, mainly distributes in semi-fermented oolong tea, and completely fermented black tea and dark tea. As a kind of macromolecular substance, theabrownin cannot be directly absorbed by the gut, but it can directly interact with intestinal microbiota to regulate and maintain the homeostasis of intestinal flora. Theabrownin has multiple physiological roles via modulating the gut microbiota, including inhibiting hepatic cholesterol production, promoting the catabolism of cholesterol and triglyceride, and promoting energy metabolism in adipose tissues, thereby improving lipid metabolism. Theabrownin can also directly influence the gut absorption of glucose to improve carbohydrate metabolism and maintain blood glucose homeostasis. Theabrownin plays an anti-tumor role by inducing apoptosis and regulating gene expression in tumor cells. Theabrownin also plays an anti-inflammatory role via participating in the regulation of the immune cell differentiation and the levels of inflammatory factors. This review summarizes the formation process, the extraction procedures, and the chemical structure of theabrownin, and reviews the effects and mechanisms of theabrownin on intestinal microbiota, lipid metabolism, blood glucose homeostasis, cancer and inflammation.

Abstract

Novel adjuvants and innovative combinations of adjuvants (Adjuvant Systems) have facilitated the development of enhanced and new vaccines against re-emerging and challenging pathogenic microorganisms. Nonetheless, the efficacy of adjuvants is influenced by various factors, and the same adjuvant may generate entirely different immune responses when paired with different antigens. Herein, we combined the MPXV-B6R antigen with BC02, a novel adjuvant with proprietary technology, to assess its capability to induce both cellular and humoral immunity in mouse models. Mice received two intramuscular injections of B6R-BC02, which resulted in the production of MPXV-specific IgG, IgG1, and IgG2a antibodies. Additionally, it elicited strong MPXV-specific Th1-oriented cellular immunity and persistent effector memory B-cell responses. The advantages of BC02 were further validated, including rapid initiation of the immune response, robust recall memory, and sustained immune response induction. Although the potential of immunized mice to produce serum-neutralizing antibodies against the vaccinia virus requires further improvement, the exceptional performance of BC02 as an adjuvant for the MPXV-B6R antigen has been consistently demonstrated. 34. Soil fungal community is more sensitive to nitrogen deposition than increased rainfall in a mixed deciduous forest of China

Abstract

Nitrogen (N) deposition and intensified rainfall can strongly affect soil microbial community, but compared with available studies on bacteria, those on soil fungi are quite limited. Here we carried out a field experiment in a mixed deciduous forest of China to study the influences of increased N deposition and rainfall on soil fungi by using quantitative PCR and high-throughput sequencing method. The results demonstrated that (1) N addition significantly increased fungal abundance and alpha diversity (richness, Shannon index and Invsimpson index), changed fungal community composition at OTU level, and marginally increased the relative abundance of Ascomycota and Zygomycota, while water addition showed no remarkable effects on fungal abundance, biodiversity and community composition. (2) N addition significantly increased the richness of saprotrophic fungi and pathogenic fungi, and the relative abundance of saprotrophic fungi, but water addition only slightly increased the abundance of pathogenic fungi. (3) Fungal composition dissimilarity closely correlated with the disparity of soil parameters as a whole. Soil NH4+-N exhibited strong positive correlation with the richness of pathogenic fungi and mycorrhizal fungi, while both soil moisture and NH4+-N tightly correlated with soil fungal abundance and alpha diversity indices. We concluded that in this N-limited but non-water-limited forest ecosystem, N deposition posed stronger effects on soil fungi than increased rainfall, partially mediated by changes in soil properties.
