The stripe phase, an intertwined order observed in high-temperature superconductors, is regarded as playing a key role in elucidating the underlying mechanism of superconductivity, especially in cuprates. Following Jan Zaanen's early scenario, the full-filled charge stripe can be taken as the interactive elastic quantum strings of holes, stabilized by $\pi$-phase shifts between neighboring magnetic domains. However, this scenario is challenging to explain, particularly in terms of electron pairing, which necessitates hole pairs. In this work, we propose a new effective model for describing the stripe phase in the hole-doped $t$-$J_z$ model. With respect to the antiferromagnetic background, the model comprises three types of color-labeled point-defects coupling to {an effective} spin field. Comparing with numerical results from large-scale density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) simulations, we find semi-quantitative agreement in local hole density, magnetic moment, and the newly proposed spectrum features of the {effective} spin field. By systematically analyzing the hole-density distribution and the scaling of groundstate energy at different system sizes, we determine the effective core radius and the effective hopping amplitude of the quantum string. In the quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) method, the Pseudo-Random Number Generator (PRNG) plays a crucial role in determining the computation time. However, the hidden structure of the PRNG may lead to serious issues such as the breakdown of the Markov process. Here, we systematically analyze the performance of the different PRNGs on the widely used QMC method -- stochastic series expansion (SSE) algorithm. To quantitatively compare them, we introduce a quantity called QMC efficiency that can effectively reflect the efficiency of the algorithms. After testing several representative observables of the Heisenberg model in one and two dimensions, we recommend using LCG as the best choice of PRNGs. Deconfined quantum phase transition (DQPT) provides an extraordinary possibility of the quantum phase transition beyond the Ginzburg-Landau paradigm, which is interwoven with numerous exotic phenomena of the strongly correlated quantum many-body system, e.g. fractional excitation, emergent symmetries, and gauge field. However, various candidates of DQPT have been demonstrated to be weakly first-order, and the conformal field theory (CFT) has to be altered into a non-unitary one. Here we numerically found two linear dispersions with different velocities in one of the few survivors of DQPT -- the extended hard-core Bose-Hubbard model on the Kagome lattice. Such counterintuitive results directly lead to the negation of possible emergent Lorentz symmetry, and the breakdown of conventional theory of DQPT. Furthermore, the snapshots of boson configuration hint that these two velocities may correspond to the dynamics of the fractional excitations and quantum strings, respectively. In this paper, a magnon-bandgap controllable artificial domain wall waveguide is proposed by means of micromagnetic simulation. By the investigation of the propagation behavior and dispersion relationship of spin waves in artificial domain wall waveguides, it is found that the nonreciprocal propagation of spin waves in the artificial domain walls are mainly affected by the local effective exchange field, and the magnon bandgap can be controlled by changing the maximum value of the effective exchange field. In addition, it is observed that the artificial domain wall waveguides are structurally more stable than the natural domain wall waveguides under the same spin wave injection conditions, and the magnon bandgap of the artificial domain wall waveguides can be adjusted by its width and magnetic anisotropy parameters. The bandgap controllable artificial domain wall scheme is beneficial to the miniaturization and integration of magnon devices and can be applied to future magnonic technology as a novel frequency filter.

Simulating $\mathrm{U(1)}$ quantum gauge theories with spatial dimension greater than one is of great physical significance yet has not been achieved experimentally. Here we propose a simple realization of $\mathrm{U(1)}$ gauge theory on triangular lattice Rydberg atom arrays. Within experimentally accessible range, we find that the effective model well simulates various aspects of the $\mathrm{U(1)}$ gauge theory, such as emergence of topological sectors, incommensurability, and the deconfined Rokhsar-Kivelson point. Density shift plays one of the major roles in the uncertainty of optical lattice clock, thus has attracted lots of theoretical and experimental studies. However, most of the theoretical research considered the single-band and collective approximation, so the density shift of the system at higher temperatures can not be analyzed accurately. Here, we design a numerical algorithm that combines Monte Carlo sampling and exact diagonalization and name it as Multi-Band Sampling Exact Diagonalization (MBSED). The MBSED method considers the collision of atoms between multi-bands, so it can provide the density shift of an optical lattice clock with higher precision. Such an algorithm will benefit the numerical simulation of an optical lattice clock, and may also be used in other platforms of quantum metrology. In addition, through our numerical simulation, we also found that the density shift of Rabi spectrum is slightly non-linear with atom number.

We study the two-dimensional Rydberg atom array in an optical cavity with help of the meanfield theory and the large-scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations. The strong dipole-dipole interactions between Rydberg atoms can make the system exhibit the crystal structure, and the coupling between two-level atom and cavity photon mode can result in the formation of the polariton. The interplay between them provides a rich quantum phase diagram including the Mott, solid-1/2, superradiant and superradiant solid phases. As the two-order co-existed phase, the superradiant solid phase breaks both translational and U(1) symmetries. Based on both numerical and analytic results, we found the region of superradiant solid is much larger than one dimensional case, so that it can be more easily observed in the experiment. Finally, we discuss how the energy gap of the Rydberg atom can affect the type of the quantum phase transition and the number of triple points.

Simulating physics with large SU(N) symmetry is one of the unique advantages of Alkaline-earth atoms.Introducing periodical driving modes to the system may provide more rich SU(N) physics that static one could not reach. However, whether the driving modes will break the SU(N) symmetry is still lack of discussions. Here we experimentally study a Floquet engineered degenerate Sr-87 optical lattice clock (OLC) by periodically shaking the lattice. With the help of Rabi spectroscopy, we find that the atoms at different Zeeman sublevels are tuned by the same driven function. Meanwhile, our experimental results suggest that uniform distribution among the sublevels will not change despite the driving. Our experimental demonstrations may pave the way to implementation of FE on tailoring the SU(N) physics in OLC system.

The quantum phase transition between $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$ plaquette valence bound solid (PVBS) and superfluid (SF) phases on the planar pyrochlore lattice (square ice) is under debate, because the conventional deconfined theory does not support continuous one, but the numerical evidence is still not solid. Here, we propose the system can be effectively described by a 2+1 dimensional Abelian-Higgs model which may host the mixed 't Hooft anomaly, so that the deconfinement can exist on the domain walls at the transition point. To verify it, we study the spin excitation spectra by combining stochastic analytic continuation and quantum Monte Carlo simulation. In both PVBS and SF phases, a flat band with bow-tie structure is observed and can be explained by group theoretic analysis. At the transition point, the spectra turn to be continuous and gapless, which indicates the topological excitations. From the snapshot of the spin configuration in real space, we found the existence of the domain wall in which the symmetries satisfy the anomaly. Meanwhile, a Luttinger liquid like continuum implies additional domain walls (point-defect) can emerge in the domain walls (line-defect) and take the role of deconfinement at transition point, as prediction of mixed 't Hooft anomaly. The interference between a sequence of Landau-Zener (LZ) transitions can produce Rabi oscillations(LZROs). This phenomenon is a kind of time-domain Landau-Zener-Stuckelberg-Majorana (LZSM) interference. However, experimental demonstrations of this LZSM interference induced Rabi oscillation are extremely hard due to the short coherence time of the driven quantum system. Here, we study theoretically the time-domain LZSM interference between the clock transition in one-dimensional (1D) Sr-87 optical lattice clock (OLC) system. With the help of both the adiabatic-impulse model and Floquet numerical simulation method, the LZROs with special step-like structure are clearly found both in fast- and slow-passage limit in the real experiment parameter regions. In addition, the dephasing effect caused by the system temperature can be suppressed with destructive interference in the slow-passage limit. Finally, we discuss the possible Bloch-Siegert shift while the pulse time is away from the half-integer and integer periods. Our work provides a clear roadmap to observe the LZROs on the OLC platform.

Quantum metrology with ultra-high precision usually requires atoms prepared in an ultra-stable environment with well-defined quantum states. Thus, in optical lattice clock systems deep lattice potentials are used to trap ultra-cold atoms. However, decoherence, induced by Raman scattering and higher order light shifts, can significantly be reduced if atomic clocks are realized in shallow optical lattices. On the other hand, in such lattices, tunneling among different sites can cause additional dephasing and strongly broadening of the Rabi spectrum. Here, in our experiment, we periodically drive a shallow $^{87}$Sr optical lattice clock. Counter intuitively, shaking the system can deform the wide broad spectral line into a sharp peak with 5.4Hz line-width. With careful comparison between the theory and experiment, we demonstrate that the Rabi frequency and the Bloch bands can be tuned, simultaneously and independently. We show that the Rokhsar-Kivelson (RK) point in quantum dimer models (QDM) can emerge in realistic quantum Ising spin systems. Specifically, we investigate the $J_1$-$J_2$-$J_3$ transverse field Ising model on the triangular lattice with large-scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations. We find that the multicritical point in the phase diagram corresponds to the RK point of the QDM on the honeycomb lattice. We further measure the spectral functions and identify three branches of quadratic dispersions. In the phase diagram, we also find a sequence of incommensurate states, which meet the microscopic ingredients for the 'Cantor deconfinement' scenario. Simulating lattice gauge theory (LGT) Hamiltonian and its nontrivial states by programmable quantum devices has attracted numerous attention in recent years. Rydberg atom arrays constitute one of the most rapidly developing arenas for quantum simulation and quantum computing. The $\mathbb{Z}_2$ LGT and topological order has been realized in experiments while the $U(1)$ LGT is being worked hard on the way. States of LGT have local constraint and are fragmented into several winding sectors with topological protection. It is therefore difficult to reach the ground state in target sector for experiments, and it is also an important task for quantum topological memory. Here, we propose a protocol of sweeping quantum annealing (SQA) for searching the ground state among topological sectors. With the quantum Monte Carlo method, we show that this SQA has linear time complexity of size with applications to the antiferromagnetic transverse field Ising model, which has emergent $U(1)$ gauge fields. This SQA protocol can be realized easily on quantum simulation platforms such as Rydberg array and D-wave annealer. We expect this approach would provide an efficient recipe for resolving the topological hindrances in quantum optimization and the preparation of quantum topological state.

We identify a quantum critical point with fractal symmetry whose effective theory eludes the renormalization group framework. We consider the Newman-Moore model with three-body interaction subjected to an external transverse field, which exhibits a Kramers-Wannier type self-duality and a fractal $Z_2$ symmetry with Ising charge conserved on a fractal subset of sites, i.e., on Sierpinski gaskets. Using large-scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations, we identify a continuous quantum phase transition between a phase with spontaneous fractal symmetry breaking and a paramagnetic phase. This phase transition is characterized by the emergence of a fractal scaling dimension $d=\ln(3)/\ln(2)$ at the quantum critical point, where the power-law exponent of the correlation function is related to the fractal dimension of the Sierpinski triangle. We develop a field theory to elucidate such quantum criticality and denote the fractal scaling as a subsequence of UV-IR mixing, where the low energy modes at the critical point are manipulated by short-wavelength physics due to the fractal symmetry.

The interplay of interactions, symmetries and gauge fields usually leads to intriguing quantum many-body phases. To explore the nature of emerging phases, we study a quantum Rabi triangle system as an elementary building block for synthesizing an artificial magnetic field. We develop an analytical approach to study the rich phase diagram and the associated quantum criticality. Of particular interest is the emergence of a chiral-coherent phase, which breaks both the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ and the chiral symmetry. In this chiral phase, photons flow unidirectionally and the chirality can be tuned by the artificial gauge field, exhibiting a signature of broken time-reversal symmetry. The finite-frequency scaling analysis further confirms the associated phase transition to be in the universality class of the Dicke model. We investigate the quantum dynamics of the transverse field Ising model on the triangular lattice through large-scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations and stochastic analytic continuation. At weak transverse field, we capture for the first time the excitations related to topological quantum strings, which exhibits continuum features described by XY chain along the strings and those in accord with "Luttinger string liquid" in the perpendicular direction. The continuum features can be well understood from the perspective of topological strings. Furthermore, we identify the contribution of strings from the excitation spectrum. The quantum system under periodical modulation is the simplest path to understand the quantum non-equilibrium system, because it can be well described by the effective static Floquet Hamiltonian. Under the stroboscopic measurement, the initial phase is usually irrelevant. However, if two uncorrelated parameters are modulated, their relative phase can not be gauged out, so that the physics can be dramatically changed. Here, we simultaneously modulate the frequency of the lattice laser and the Rabi frequency in an optical lattice clock (OLC) system. Thanks to ultra-high precision and ultra-stability of OLC, the relative phase could be fine-tuned. As a smoking gun, we observed the interference between two Floquet channels. Finally, by experimentally detecting the eigen-energies, we demonstrate the relation between effective Floquet Hamiltonian and 1-D topological insulator with high winding number. Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy are utilized to study the atomic-scale structure and electronic properties of infinite-layer Sr0.94La0.06CuO2+y films prepared on SrRuO3-buffered SrTiO3(001) substrate by ozone-assisted molecular beam epitaxy. Incommensurate structural supermodulation with a period of 24.5{\AA} is identified on the CuO2-terminated surface, leading to characteristic stripes running along the 45o direction with respect to the Cu-O-Cu bonds. Spatially resolved tunneling spectra reveal substantial inhomogeneity on a nanometer length scale and emergence of in-gap states at sufficient doping. Despite the Fermi level shifting up to 0.7 eV, the charge-transfer energy gap of the CuO2 planes remains fundamentally unchanged at different doping levels. The occurrence of the CuO2 superstructure is constrained in the surface region and its formation is found to link with oxygen intake that serves as doping agent of holes in the epitaxial films., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, also see arXiv:1904.12280

We periodically modulate the lattice trapping potential of a $^{87}$Sr optical clock to Floquet engineer the clock transition. In the context of atomic gases in lattices, Floquet engineering has been used to shape the dispersion and topology of Bloch quasi-energy bands. Differently from these previous works manipulating the external (spatial) quasi-energies, we target the internal atomic degrees of freedom. We shape Floquet spin quasi-energies and measure their resonance profiles with Rabi spectroscopy. We provide the spectroscopic sensitivity of each band by measuring the Fisher information and show that this is not depleted by the Floquet dynamical modulation. Incommensurability plays a critical role in many strongly correlated systems. In some cases, the origin of such exotic order can be theoretically understood in the framework of 1d line-like topological excitations known as ``quantum strings''. Here we study an extended transverse field Ising model on a triangular lattice. Using the large scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations, we find that the spatial anisotropy can stabilize an incommensurate phase out of the commensurate clock order. Our results for the structure factor and the string density exhibit a linear relationship between incommensurate ordering wave vector and the density of quantum strings, which is reminiscent of hole density in under-doped cuprate superconductors. When introducing the next-nearest-neighbor interaction, we observe a quantum tricritical point out of the incommensurate phase. After carefully analyzing the ground state energies within different string topological sectors, we conclude that this tricriticality is non-trivially caused by effective long-range inter-string interactions with two competing terms following different decaying behaviors., Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures, comments are welcome and more information at http://cqutp.org/users/xfzhang/

In this letter, an asymmetric spin wave scattering behaviors caused by vortex chirality are investigated in cross-shaped ferromagnetic system. In the system, four scattering behaviors are found, 1) asymmetric skew scattering, depending on the polarity of vortex core, 2) back scattering (reflection), depending on the vortex core stiffness, 3) side deflection scattering, depending on structural symmetry of the vortex circulation, and 4) geometrical scattering, depending on waveguide structure. The first and second scattering behaviors are attributed to nonlinear topological magnon spin Hall effect related to magnon spin-transfer torque effect, which has value for magnonic exploration and application.

In quantum many-body system, dimensionality plays a critical role on type of the quantum phase transition. In order to study the quantum system during dimensional crossover, we studied the Bose-Hubbard model on cubic lattice with anisotropic hopping by using the high order symbolic strong coupling expansion method. The analytic series expanded boundaries between the Mott-insulator and superfluid phase up to eighth order are calculated. The critical exponents are extracted by Pad\'{e} re-summation method, which clearly shows the dimensional crossover behavior. Meanwhile, the critical points at commensurate filling can also be obtained, and they match well with the prediction of renormalization group theory. The entanglement of hard-core bosons in square and honeycomb lattices with nearest-neighbor interactions is estimated by means of quantum Monte Carlo simulations and spin-wave analysis. The particular U(1)-invariant form of the concurrence is used to establish a connection with observables such as density and superfluid density. We consider two species of hard-core bosons with density dependent hopping in a one-dimensional optical lattice, for which we propose experimental realizations using time-periodic driving. The quantum phase diagram for half-integer filling is determined by combining different advanced numerical simulations with analytic calculations. We find that a reduction of the density-dependent hopping induces a Mott-insulator to superfluid transition. For negative hopping a previously unknown state is found, where one species induces a gauge phase of the other species, which leads to a superfluid phase of gauge-paired particles. Machine learning algorithms provide a new perspective on the study of physical phenomena. In this paper, we explore the nature of quantum phase transitions using multi-color convolutional neural-network (CNN) in combination with quantum Monte Carlo simulations. We propose a method that compresses $d+1$ dimensional space-time configurations to a manageable size and then use them as the input for a CNN. We test our approach on two models and show that both continuous and discontinuous quantum phase transitions can be well detected and characterized. Combining the process-chain method with a symbolized evaluation we work out in detail a high-order symbolic strong-coupling expansion (HSSCE) for determining the quantum phase boundaries between the Mott insulator and the superfluid phase of the Bose-Hubbard model for different fillings in hypercubic lattices of different dimensions. With a subsequent Pad{\'e} approximation we achieve for the quantum phase boundaries a high accuracy, which is comparable to high-precision quantum Monte-Carlo simulations, and show that all the Mott lobes can be rescaled to a single one. As a further cross-check, we find that the HSSCE results coincide with a hopping expansion of the quantum phase boundaries, which follow from the effective potential Landau theory (EPLT)., Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures.
