Abstract

Increasing number in global COVID-19 cases demands for mathematical model to analyze the interaction between the virus dynamics and the response of innate and adaptive immunity. Here, based on the assumption of a weak and delayed response of the innate and adaptive immunity in SARS-CoV-2 infection, we constructed a mathematical model to describe the dynamic processes of immune system. Integrating theoretical results with clinical COVID-19 patients' data, we classified the COVID-19 development processes into three typical modes of immune responses, correlated with the clinical classification of mild & moderate, severe and critical patients. We found that the immune efficacy (the ability of host to clear virus and kill infected cells) and the lymphocyte supply (the abundance and pool of na\"ive T and B cell) play important roles in the dynamic process and determine the clinical outcome, especially for the severe and critical patients. Furthermore, we put forward possible treatment strategies for the three typical modes of immune response. We hope our results can help to understand the dynamical mechanism of the immune response against SARS-CoV-2 infection, and to be useful for the treatment strategies and vaccine design., Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

BackgroundBrucellosis, as a serious zoonotic infectious disease, has been recognized as a re-emerging disease in the developing countries worldwide. In china, the incidence of brucellosis is increasing each year, seriously threatening the health of humans as well as animal populations. Despite a quite number of diagnostic methods currently being used for brucellosis, innovative technologies are still needed for its rapid and accurate diagnosis, especially in area where traditional diagnostic is unavailable.Methodology/principal findingsIn this study, a total of 22 B cell linear epitopes were predicted from five Brucella outer membrane proteins (OMPs) using an immunoinformatic approach. These epitopes were then chemically synthesized, and with the method of indirect ELISA (iELISA), each of them displayed a certain degree of capability in identifying human brucellosis positive sera. Subsequently, a fusion protein consisting of the 22 predicted epitopes was prokaryotically expressed and used as diagnostic antigen in a newly established brucellosis testing method, nano-ZnO modified paper-based ELISA (nano-p-ELISA). According to the verifying test using a collection of sera collected from brucellosis and non-brucellosis patients, the sensitivity and specificity of multiepitope based nano-p-ELISA were 92.38% and 98.35% respectively. The positive predictive value was 98.26% and the negative predictive value was 91.67%. The multiepitope based fusion protein also displayed significantly higher specificity than Brucella lipopolysaccharide (LPS) antigen.ConclusionsB cell epitopes are important candidates for serologically testing brucellosis. Multiepitope fusion protein based nano-p-ELISA displayed significantly sensitivity and specificity compared to Brucella LPS antigen. The strategy applied in this study will be helpful to develop rapid and accurate diagnostic method for brucellosis in human as well as animal populations.

21. Enhanced Structural and Electrochemical Performance of LiNi 0.5 Mn 1.5 O 4 Cathode Material by PO 4 3− /Fe 3+ Co-Doping.

Abstract

Series of PO43−/Fe3+ co-doped samples of LiNi0.5Mn1.5-5/3xFexP2/3xO4 (x = 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, 0.05) have been synthesized by the coprecipitation–hydrothermal method, along with high-temperature calcination using FeSO4 and NaH2PO4 as Fe3+ and PO43− sources, respectively. The effects of the PO43−/Fe3+ co-doping amount on the crystal structure, particle morphology and electrochemical performance of LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 are intensively studied. The results show that the PO43−/Fe3+ co-doping amount exerts a significant influence on the crystal structure and particle morphology, including increased crystallinity, lowered Mn3+ content, smaller primary particle size with decreased agglomeration and the exposure of high-energy (110) and (311) crystal surfaces in primary particles. The synergy of the above factors contributes to the obviously ameliorated electrochemical performance of the co-doped samples. The LiNi0.5Mn1.45Fe0.03P0.02O4 sample exhibits the best cycling stability, and the LiNi0.5Mn1.4333Fe0.04P0.0267O4 sample displays the best rate performance. The electrochemical properties of LiNi0.5Mn1.5-5/3xFexP2/3xO4 can be regulated by adjusting the PO43−/Fe3+ co-doping amount. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

To further improve the volumetric energy density of LiFePO4 based cathode materials, herein, lithium iron phosphate supported on carbon (LiFePO4/C) with high compaction density of 2.73g/cm3 has been successfully synthesized by elaborate controlling the particle size of precursor slurry and the resultant LiFePO4/C composite. The as-synthesized composite is demonstrated to be an attractive positive electrode candidate for lithium-ion batteries, and the capacity of 18650 cell with LiFePO4/C as cathode reaches 7.0 Wh. Furthermore, high-/low-temperature discharge performance and reversibility of capacity retention are excellent. XRD patterns show that LiFePO4/C with higher compaction density exhibited better crystallinity corresponding to olivine structure. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests demonstrate that high compaction density of the cathode materials is beneficial for electrochemical property promotion. The as-synthesized LiFePO4/C is a promising candidate for the development of high-performance, cost-effective lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, and this work provides a feasible way to synthesize LiFePO4/C composite with high compaction density and excellent electrochemical performance.

Abstract

Mycoplasma capricolumsubsp.subsp. capripneumonia (Mccp) and Mycoplasma mycoidessubsp.sbusp. capri (Mmc) cause caprine pleuropneumonia (CCPP) and mycoplasmal pneumonia in goats and sheep (MPGS), respectively. These diseases cannot be identified on clinical symptoms alone and it is laborious to distinguish them using biochemical methods. It is therefore important to establish a simple, rapid identification method for Mccp and Mmc. Here, we report a high-resolution melting (HRM) curve analysis using specific primers based on the Mmc 95010 strain MLC_0560 and Mccp F38 strain MCCPF38_00984 gene sequences.
