Simulated Patients (SPs) play a crucial role in clinical medical education by providing realistic scenarios for student practice. However, the high cost of training and hiring qualified SPs, along with the heavy workload and potential risks they face in consistently portraying actual patients, limit students' access to this type of clinical training. Consequently, the integration of computer program-based simulated patients has emerged as a valuable educational tool in recent years. With the rapid development of Large Language Models (LLMs), their exceptional capabilities in conversational artificial intelligence and role-playing have been demonstrated, making them a feasible option for implementing Virtual Simulated Patient (VSP). In this paper, we present an integrated model-agnostic framework called CureFun that harnesses the potential of LLMs in clinical medical education. This framework facilitates natural conversations between students and simulated patients, evaluates their dialogue, and provides suggestions to enhance students' clinical inquiry skills. Through comprehensive evaluations, our approach demonstrates more authentic and professional SP-scenario dialogue flows compared to other LLM-based chatbots, thus proving its proficiency in simulating patients. Additionally, leveraging CureFun's evaluation ability, we assess several medical LLMs and discuss the possibilities and limitations of using LLMs as virtual doctors from the perspective of their diagnostic abilities.

Single-atom magnetism switching is a key technique towards the ultimate data storage density of computer hard disks and has been conceptually realized by leveraging the spin bistability of a magnetic atom under a scanning tunnelling microscope. However, it has rarely been applied to solid-state transistors, an advancement that would be highly desirable for enabling various applications. Here, we demonstrate realization of the electrically controlled Zeeman effect in Dy@C84 single-molecule transistors, thus revealing a transition in the magnetic moment from 3.8 {\mu}B to 5.1 {\mu}B for the ground-state GN at an electric field strength of 3-10 MV/cm. The consequent magnetoresistance significantly increases from 600% to 1100% at the resonant tunneling point. Density functional theory calculations further corroborate our realization of nonvolatile switching of single-atom magnetism, and the switching stability emanates from an energy barrier of 92 meV for atomic relaxation. Incorporating multiple knowledge sources is proven to be beneficial for answering complex factoid questions. To utilize multiple knowledge bases (KB), previous works merge all KBs into a single graph via entity alignment and reduce the problem to question-answering (QA) over the fused KB. In reality, various link relations between KBs might be adopted in QA over multi-KBs. In addition to the identity between the alignable entities (i.e. full link), unalignable entities expressing the different aspects or types of an abstract concept may also be treated identical in a question (i.e. partial link). Hence, the KB fusion in prior works fails to represent all types of links, restricting their ability to comprehend multi-KBs for QA. In this work, we formulate the novel Multi-KB-QA task that leverages the full and partial links among multiple KBs to derive correct answers, a benchmark with diversified link and query types is also constructed to efficiently evaluate Multi-KB-QA performance. Finally, we propose a method for Multi-KB-QA that encodes all link relations in the KB embedding to score and rank candidate answers. Experiments show that our method markedly surpasses conventional KB-QA systems in Multi-KB-QA, justifying the necessity of devising this task.

With the introduction of deep learning models, semantic parsingbased knowledge base question answering (KBQA) systems have achieved high performance in handling complex questions. However, most existing approaches primarily focus on enhancing the model's effectiveness on individual benchmark datasets, disregarding the high costs of adapting the system to disparate datasets in real-world scenarios (e.g., multi-tenant platform). Therefore, we present ADMUS, a progressive knowledge base question answering framework designed to accommodate a wide variety of datasets, including multiple languages, diverse backbone knowledge bases, and disparate question answering datasets. To accomplish the purpose, we decouple the architecture of conventional KBQA systems and propose this dataset-independent framework. Our framework supports the seamless integration of new datasets with minimal effort, only requiring creating a dataset-related micro-service at a negligible cost. To enhance the usability of ADUMS, we design a progressive framework consisting of three stages, ranges from executing exact queries, generating approximate queries and retrieving open-domain knowledge referring from large language models. Block transmission systems have been proven successful over frequency-selective channels. For time-varying channel such as in high-speed mobile communication and underwater communication, existing equalizers assume that channels over different data frames are independent. However, the real-world channels over different data frames are correlated, thereby indicating potentials for performance improvement. In this paper, we propose a joint channel estimation and equalization/decoding algorithm for a single-carrier system that exploits temporal correlations of channel between transmitted data frames. Leveraging the concept of dynamic compressive sensing, our method can utilize the information of several data frames to achieve better performance. The information not only passes between the channel and symbol, but also the channels over different data frames. Numerical simulations using an extensively validated underwater acoustic model with a time-varying channel establish that the proposed algorithm outperforms the former bilinear generalized approximate message passing equalizer and classic minimum mean square error turbo equalizer in bit error rate and channel estimation normalized mean square error. Trends of miniaturized devices and quantum interference electronics lead to the long desire of Fano interference in single-molecule junctions, here, which is successfully demonstrated using the 2,7-di(4-pyridyl)-9,9'-spirobifluorene molecule with a long backbone group and a short side group. Experimentally, the two electrically coupled groups are found to contribute to two blurred degenerate points in the differential conductance mapping. This forms a characteristic non-centrosymmetric double-crossing feature, with distinct temperature response for each crossing. Theoretically, we describe the practical in-junction electron transmission using a new two-tunnelling-channel coupling model and obtain a working formula with a Fano term and a Breit-Wigner term. The formula is shown to provide a good fit for all the mapping data and their temperature dependence in three dimensions, identifying the Fano component. Our work thus forms a complete set of evidence of the Fano interference in a single-molecule junction induced by two-tunnelling-channel coupling transport. Semantic parsing solves knowledge base (KB) question answering (KBQA) by composing a KB query, which generally involves node extraction (NE) and graph composition (GC) to detect and connect related nodes in a query. Despite the strong causal effects between NE and GC, previous works fail to directly model such causalities in their pipeline, hindering the learning of subtask correlations. Also, the sequence-generation process for GC in previous works induces ambiguity and exposure bias, which further harms accuracy. In this work, we formalize semantic parsing into two stages. In the first stage (graph structure generation), we propose a causal-enhanced table-filler to overcome the issues in sequence-modelling and to learn the internal causalities. In the second stage (relation extraction), an efficient beam-search algorithm is presented to scale complex queries on large-scale KBs. Experiments on LC-QuAD 1.0 indicate that our method surpasses previous state-of-the-arts by a large margin (17%) while remaining time and space efficiency. A new kind of intrinsic magnetic topological insulators (MTI) MnBi2Te4 family have shed light on the observation of novel topological quantum effect such as quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE). However, the strong anti-ferromagnetic (AFM) coupling and high carrier concentration in the bulk hinder the practical applications. In closely related materials MnBi4Te7 and MnBi6Te10, the interlayer magnetic coupling is greatly suppressed by Bi2Te3 layer intercalation. However, AFM is still the ground state in these compounds. Here by magnetic and transport measurements, we demonstrate that Sb substitutional dopant plays a dual role in MnBi6Te10, which can not only adjust the charge carrier type and the concentration, but also induce the solid into a ferromagnetic (FM) ground state. AFM ground state region which is also close to the charge neutral point can be found in the phase diagram of Mn(SbxBi1-x)6Te10 when x ~ 0.25. An intrinsic FM-MTI candidate is thus demonstrated, and it may take a step further for the realization of high-quality and high-temperature QAHE and the related topological quantum effects in the future.

We demonstrate the dissipationless transport of the chiral edge state (CES) in the nanodevices of quantum anomalous Hall insulator candidate MnBi2Te4. The device presents a near-zero longitudinal resistance together with a quantized Hall plateau in excess of 0.97 h/e2 over a range of temperatures from very low up to the Neel temperature of 22 K. Each of four-probe nonlocal measurements gives near-zero resistance and two-probe measurements exhibit a plateau of +1 h/e2, while the results of three-probe nonlocal measurements depend on the magnetic field. This indicates non-dissipation as well as the chirality of the edge state. The CES shows three regimes of temperature dependence, i.e., well-preserved dissipationless transport below 6 K, variable range hopping while increasing the temperature and thermal activation at higher than 22 K. Even at the lowest temperature, a current of over 1.4 {\mu}A breaks the dissipationless transport. Infectious diseases are caused by pathogenic microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi, which can be spread, directly or indirectly, from one person to another. Infectious diseases pose a serious threat to human health, especially COVID-19 that has became a serious worldwide health concern since the end of 2019. Contact tracing is the process of identifying, assessing, and managing people who have been exposed to a disease to prevent its onward transmission. Contact tracing can help us better understand the transmission link of the virus, whereby better interrupting its transmission. Given the worldwide pandemic of COVID-19, contact tracing has become one of the most critical measures to effectively curb the spread of the virus. This paper presents a comprehensive survey on contact tracing, with a detailed coverage of the recent advancements the models, digital technologies, protocols and issues involved in contact tracing. The current challenges as well as future directions of contact tracing technologies are also presented.

Despite the broadband response, limited optical absorption at a particular wavelength hinders the development of optoelectronics based on Dirac fermions. Heterostructures of graphene and various semiconductors have been explored for this purpose, while non-ideal interfaces often limit the performance. The topological insulator is a natural hybrid system, with the surface states hosting high-mobility Dirac fermions and the small-bandgap semiconducting bulk state strongly absorbing light. In this work, we show a large photocurrent response from a field effect transistor device based on intrinsic topological insulator Sn-Bi1.1Sb0.9Te2S. The photocurrent response is non-volatile and sensitively depends on the initial Fermi energy of the surface state, and it can be erased by controlling the gate voltage. Our observations can be explained with a remote photo-doping mechanism, in which the light excites the defects in the bulk and frees the localized carriers to the surface state. This photodoping modulates the surface state conductivity without compromising the mobility, and it also significantly modify the quantum Hall effect of the surface state. Our work thus illustrates a route to reversibly manipulate the surface states through optical excitation, shedding light into utilizing topological surface states for quantum optoelectronics.

Single molecular electrets exhibiting single molecule electric polarization switching have been long desired as a platform for extremely small non-volatile storage devices, although it is controversial because of the poor stability of single molecular electric dipoles. Here we study the single molecular device of GdC82, where the encapsulated Gd atom forms a charge center, and we have observed a gate controlled switching behavior between two sets of single electron transport stability diagrams. The switching is operated in a hysteresis loop with a coercive gate field of around 0.5Vnm. Theoretical calculations have assigned the two conductance diagrams to corresponding energy levels of two states that the Gd atom is trapped at two different sites of the C82 cage, which possess two different permanent electrical dipole orientations. The two dipole states are stabilized by the anisotropic energy and separated by a transition energy barrier of 70 meV. Such switching is then accessed to the electric field driven reorientation of individual dipole while overcoming the barriers by the coercive gate field, and demonstrates the creation of a single molecular electret.

Knowledge graph models world knowledge as concepts, entities, and the relationships between them, which has been widely used in many real-world tasks. CCKS 2019 held an evaluation track with 6 tasks and attracted more than 1,600 teams. In this paper, we give an overview of the knowledge graph evaluation tract at CCKS 2019. Here we report the reserved anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in the 5-septuple-layer van der Waals device of the intrinsic magnetic topological insulator MnBi2Te4. By employing the top/bottom gate, a negative AHE loop gradually decreases to zero and changes to a reversed sign. The reversed AHE exhibits distinct coercive fields and temperature dependence from the previous AHE. It reaches the maximum inside the gap of the Dirac cone. The newly-seen reversed AHE is attributed to the competition of the intrinsic Berry curvature and the Dirac-gap enhanced extrinsic skew scattering. Its gate-controlled switching contributes a scheme for the topological spin field-effect transistors.

Magnetic topological insulators (MTIs) offer a combination of topologically nontrivial characteristics and magnetic order and show promise in terms of potentially interesting physical phenomena such as the quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) effect and topological axion insulating states. However, the understanding of their properties and potential applications have been limited due to a lack of suitable candidates for MTIs. Here, we grow two-dimensional single crystals of Mn(SbxBi(1-x))2Te4 bulk and exfoliate them into thin flakes in order to search for intrinsic MTIs. We perform angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, low-temperature transport measurements, and first-principles calculations to investigate the band structure, transport properties, and magnetism of this family of materials, as well as the evolution of their topological properties. We find that there exists an optimized MTI zone in the Mn(SbxBi(1-x))2Te4 phase diagram, which could possibly host a high-temperature QAH phase, offering a promising avenue for new device applications.

Dirac and Weyl semimetals are new discovered topological nontrivial materials with the linear band dispersions around the Dirac/Weyl points. When applying non-orthogonal electric current and magnetic field, an exotic phenomenon called chiral anomaly arises and negative longitudinal resistance can be detected. Recently, a new phenomenon named planer Hall effect (PHE) is considered to be another indication of chiral anomaly which has been observed in many topological semimetals. However, it still remains a question that is the PHE only attributed to chiral anomaly? Here we demonstrate the PHE in a new-discovered type-II Dirac semimetal NiTe2 by low temperature transport. However, after detailed analysis, we conclude that the PHE results from the trivial orbital magnetoresistance. This work reveals that PHE is not a sufficient condition of chiral anomaly and one need to take special care of other non-topological contribution in such studies.

The scaling physics of quantum Hall transport in optimized topological insulators with a plateau precision of ~1/1000 e2/h is considered. Two exponential scaling regimes are observed in temperature-dependent transport dissipation, one of which accords with thermal activation behavior with a gap of 2.8 meV (> 20 K), the other being attributed to variable range hopping (1-20 K). Magnetic field-driven plateau-to-plateau transition gives scaling relations of (dR$_{xy}$/dB)$^{max}$ \propto T$^{-\kappa}$ and \DeltaB$^{-1}$ \propto T$^{-\kappa}$ with a consistent exponent of \kappa ~ 0.2, which is half the universal value for a conventional two-dimensional electron gas. This is evidence of percolation assisted by quantum tunneling, and reveals the dominance of electron-electron interaction of the topological surface states.

Atomically engineered oxide heterostructures provide a fertile ground for creating novel states. For example, a two-dimensional electron gas at the interface between two oxide insulators, giant thermoelectric Seebeck coefficient, emergent ferromagnetism from otherwise nonmagnetic components, and colossal ionic conductivity. Extensive research efforts reveal that oxygen deficiency or lattice strain play an important role in determining these unexpected properties. Herein, by studying the abrupt presence of robust ferromagnetism (up to 1.5 uB/Mn) in LaMnO3-based heterostructures, we find the multivalence states of Mn that play a decisive role in the emergence of ferromagnetism in the otherwise antiferromagnetic LaMnO3 thin films. Combining spatially resolved electron energy-loss spectroscopy, X-ray absorption spectroscopy and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism techniques, we determine unambiguously that the ferromagnetism results from a conventional Mn3+-O-Mn4+ double-exchange mechanism rather than an interfacial effect. In contrast, the magnetic dead layer of 5 unit cell in proximity to the interface is found to be accompanied with the accumulation of Mn2+ induced by electronic reconstruction. These findings provide a hitherto-unexplored multivalence state of Mn on the emergent magnetism in undoped manganite epitaxial thin films, such as LaMnO3 and BiMnO3, and shed new light on all-oxide spintronic devices., Comment: Accepted by Adv. Quantum phase transition in topological insulators has drawn heightened attention in condensed matter physics and future device applications. Here we report the magnetotransport properties of single crystalline (Bi0.92In0.08)2Se3. The average mobility of about 1000 cm2/Vs is obtained from the Lorentz law at the low field up to 50 K. The quantum oscillations rise at a field of about 5 T, revealing a high mobility of 1.4*10^4 cm2/Vs at 2 K. The topological Dirac fermions are evident by the nontrivial Berry phase in the Landau Fan diagram. The properties make the (Bi0.92In0.08)2Se3 a promising platform for the investigation of quantum phase transition in topological insulators., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures

We report the study of a tri-axial vector magnetoresistance (MR) in nonmagnetic (Bi1-xInx)2Se3 nanodevices at the composition of x = 0.08. We show a dumbbell-shaped in-plane negative MR up to room temperature as well as a large out-of-plane positive MR. MR at three directions is about in a -3%: -1%: 225% ratio at 2 K. Through both the thickness and composition-dependent magnetotransport measurements, we show that the in-plane negative MR is due to the topological phase transition enhanced intersurface coupling near the topological critical point.
