Abstract

We have updated a version of the coordination geometry table of the d-block elements and their ions that Moore and co-workers presented in 1997. This table is constructed by searching and analyzing the data in the Cambridge Structural Database. In this updated version, we have also analyzed impact of ligands on the coordination geometry and distribution of oxidation states. Our analysis is presented as an interactive table at http://cgt.dvgroup.umasscreate.net. Users can download the table in various electronic formats for further use.

Abstract

Water is essential to all life on earth. It is a major component that makes up living organisms and plays a vital role in multiple biological processes. It provides a medium for chemical and enzymatic reactions in the cell and is a major player in osmoregulation and the maintenance of cell turgidity. Despite this, many organisms, called anhydrobiotes, are capable of surviving under extremely dehydrated conditions. Less is known about how anhydrobiotes adapt and survive under desiccation stress. Studies have shown that morphological and physiological changes occur in anhydrobiotes in response to desiccation stress. Certain disaccharides and proteins, including heat shock proteins, intrinsically disordered proteins, and hydrophilins, play important roles in the desiccation tolerance of anhydrobiotes. In this review, we summarize the recent findings of desiccation tolerance in the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We also propose that the yeast under desiccation could be used as a model to study neurodegenerative disorders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

39. An Integrated Self-Powered Wheel- Speed Monitoring System Utilizing Piezoelectric–Electromagnetic-Triboelectric Hybrid Generator

Abstract

In the intelligent vehicle systems, vehicle speed information is collected and transmitted by wheel speed sensors, which is related to the safety, energy efficiency, and comfort of the vehicle. This work proposes an integrated self-powered wheel-speed monitoring system (SWMS), which can achieve real-time sensing and wireless transmission multifunction by employing an integrated piezoelectric–electromagnetic-triboelectric hybrid generator (PETHG) for harvesting the mechanical energy from rotating wheels. In particular, the triboelectric generation unit in SWMS includes an energy-channel (E-TENG) and a sensing-channel (S-TENG), the E-TENG was used for harvesting the rotational energy of the wheel, and the S-TENG was used for monitoring the rotation speed of the wheel. In the experimental test, the output performance of the hybrid generator was assessed using a rotating electrical motor to simulate different wheel speed inputs. At 600 rpm, the instantaneous power of the hybrid generator reached 168.2 mW, which can power the low-power microcontrol unit (MCU) and waveform conversion circuit in the established wheel speed monitoring system. The wheel speed recorded by MCU was compared with actual rotation speed yielding an average error rate of only 1.9%. This work offers a solution for self-powered sensors for intelligent driving.
