Abstract

A common complication of stroke patients is post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) , which significantly reduces their quality of life. There are no effective targeted treatment measures currently available for PSCI in clinical practice. A large number of studies have already indicated that the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome plays a crucial role in PSCI, and many inhibitory treatments have been shown to improve cognitive impairment. The purpose of this study was to summarized the activation and modulating factors of NLRP3 inflammatory bodies and the relationship with PSCI. Some studies have been demonstrated that inhibiting NLRP3 or its associated inflammatory body components reduces the inflammatory response, promoting cognitive function recovery in cell and animal models of PSCI. Consequently, targeting NLRP3 inflammatory bodies may be a new trends of dealing with PSCI treatment. Despite the fact that numerous drugs and therapeutic measures have been proved to suppress the activation of NLRP3 inflammatory bodies, their clinical efficacy and safety have not yet been confirmed.

10. Effects of the Non-ionic Surfactant (CiPOj) on the Interfacial Tension Behavior between CO2and Crude Oil

Abstract

The interfacial tension (IFT) between CO2and crude oil is considered as one of the key properties for the CO2flooding process, and a reduction in IFT is desirable to improve the efficiency of the process. In this work, propoxylated surfactants denoted as CiPOj(where Ciis the hydrocarbon tail and POjare oxypropylene groups, with i= 12 and j= 4–9) were adopted to reduce the IFT between CO2and crude oil by means of the pendant drop method. The results reveal that the IFT was significantly reduced or even close to zero and the miscible phenomenon was observed in the presence of CiPOj. In comparison to pentane or ethanol, CiPOjat a dosage of 0.5 wt % causes far higher reduction of the IFT than 20 wt % pentane or 5 wt % ethanol. With the increase of the CiPOjdosage, the IFT was reduced and the slope of IFT versus pressure was increased. However, there is a threshold dosage; further addition of CiPOjbeyond the threshold could no longer reduce the IFT. Moreover, attributed to the amphiphilic characteristic of CiPOj, the minimum miscibility pressure (MMP) and the first-contact miscibility pressures (Pmax) of the crude oil/CO2systems were decreased from 19.1 and 43.0 to 13.8 and 19.0 MPa at CiPOjdosage of 0.6 wt % and temperature of 333 K, respectively.
