26. Corrosion and passivation behavior of FeCoCrNiNbxeutectic high-entropy alloys in H2SO4solution

Abstract

The bilayer structure passive films were formed on FeCoCrNiNbxalloy surfaces in 0.5 M H2SO4solution. The inner film was denser and more protective. The high Cr/Nb ratio would facilitate the passivation of FeCoCrNiNbxalloys and the formation of a thicker passive film on the alloy surface. The protective ability of the passive film was determined by the structure, composition, and thickness of the passive film, while semiconductor characteristics of the passive film could only contribute to the improvement of the protective ability of the passive film, but could not directly determine the protective ability of the passive film.

Abstract

The coating deformation behavior and stress evolution of the plasma sprayed Cr3C2–NiCr coating during nanoindentation process were analyzed by finite element modeling based on its real elastic-plastic properties. The effects of indentation depth and the coating thickness on the mechanical response of the coating were studied. The results show that once the indentation depth exceeded 13% of the coating thickness, the coating material near the indenter was extruded and piled up on the top surface. Meanwhile, high equivalent stress was developed along the coating-substrate interface rather than inside the coating. Even when the indentation depth was smaller than 13% of the coating thickness, the substrate still influences the mechanical behavior of the coating, inducing different reaction force to the indenter. Abstract

The elastoplastic properties of plasma-sprayed Cr3C2-NiCr coatings were obtained through the dimension analysis and inverse analysis by combining the experimental nanoindentation tests and numerical modeling. The digital image processing technique was used to extract the pore distribution inside the coatings based on the actual microstructure. Finally, the effect of pore distribution on the coating residual stress during nanoindentation process was analyzed through simulations. The anisotropic pore microstructure shows different mechanical responses and stress propagation behaviors during nanoindentation process. The elastic modulus of the coating demonstrates anisotropy along the spraying direction and the transverse directions due to the presence of pores. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
