Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a degenerative disease of the central nervous system. The pathogenesis is still not fully clear. One of the main histopathological manifestations is senile plaques formed by β-amyloid (Aβ) accumulation. Aβ is generated from the sequential proteolysis of amyloid precursor protein (APP) by β-secretase [i.e. β-site APP cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1)] and γ-secretase, with a rate-limiting step controlled by BACE1 activity. Therefore, inhibiting BACE1 activity has become a potential therapeutic strategy for AD. The development of reliable detection methods for BACE1 activity plays an important role in early diagnosis of AD and evaluation of the therapeutic effect of new drugs for AD. This article has reviewed the recent advances in BACE1 activity detection techniques. The challenges of applying these analysis techniques to early clinical diagnosis of AD and development trends of the detection techniques have been prospected. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

White-light emitting lanthanide(iii) metal-organic coordination polymers (LMOCPs) were prepared via a green synthesis method performed in pure aqueous solution at room temperature without using toxic solvent and reagents. This kind of LMOCP, denoted as adenosine monophosphate (AMP)/Ln-CIP, was composed of Ln3+ {Ln = Tb (1), Eu (2), and Gd (3)}, hydrosoluble biomolecule of AMP, and nonpoisonous antenna ligand of CIP (ciprofloxacin). The complex of Tb(1), Eu(2), and Gd(3) in AMP/Ln-CIP emits strong green, red, and blue light, respectively. With careful adjustment of the doping mole ratio of the three lanthanide ions {Ln = Tb:Eu:Gd = 0.1:0.9:99.0} in one framework, white light-emission can indeed be achieved. AMP/Ln-CIP is network-structural and amorphous by transmission electron microscope and X-ray diffraction analysis. The fluorescence lifetime and quantum yield of AMP/Ln-CIP are 4.36 ms and 36.5%, respectively.

Gaining a profound understanding of carbon dots (CDs) structure and their potential to inhibit β‐amyloid (Aβ) aggregation holds significant importance in the quest for Alzheimer's disease (AD) prevention and treatment. Herein, CDs with varying structures were synthesized by adjusting the molar ratio of citric acid (CA) and ethylenediamine (EDA). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to characterize their size and morphology. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were applied to study their structure. Optical properties were analyzed through Ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. The inhibitory effect of CDs on Aβ1–42 aggregation was explored using circular dichroism and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results highlighted the substantial influence of the CA to EDA molar ratio on the surface structure of CDs, subsequently impacting their optical properties and efficacy in inhibiting Aβ1–42 aggregation. With increasing EDA content, CDs exhibited a rise in the number of amino functional groups while experiencing a reduction in carboxyl groups. CDs possessing more amino functional groups effectively induced alterations in the initial conformation of Aβ1–42, leading to a significant inhibition of Aβ1–42 aggregation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensors have attracted much attention due to their inherent advantages, such as ease of operation, high sensitivity, and structural diversity. Compared with conventional PEC detection methods, self‐illuminated PEC sensors do not require an external light source, which makes them more attractive in terms of instrument miniaturization and simplified operation. Chemiluminescence (CL), a straightforward and efficient excitation source, can be harnessed for PEC sensors. In this review, we provide a summary on the recently reported chemiluminescence‐driven PEC sensors. Initially, we briefly describe the current chemiluminescent systems employed in PEC sensors, including luminol and peroxyoxalate CL systems. Subsequently, the CL‐exciting modes and the design strategies for self‐excited PEC sensors are explored. The subsequent sections of the paper predominantly focus on discussing the applications of such PEC sensors in the detection of various target analytes. Furthermore, future prospects for advancing these PEC sensors are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
