Purpose: To investigate the effect of total saponins of Rubus parvifolius L. (TSRP) on lymphoma Raji cells and further discuss its mechanism. Methods: The model of nude mice bearing Raji cells was established, the volume, weight and inhibition rate of the transplanted tumor were analyzed and compared after different concentrations of TSRP treatment. Cell apoptosis and expression of Bcl-2, Bax, Fas proteins were detected by TUNEL and immunohistochemiscal method respectively. Effects of TSRP on cell proliferation were tested with MTT assay in vitro. Cell apoptosis and expression of Caspase-9, Caspase-3, Bcl-2, Bax and Fas proteins were tested with DAPI staining and Western blot. Results: TSRP significantly reduced the volume and tumor weight of Raji subcutaneous transplanted tumor and induced the apoptosis of Raji cells in vivo. The tumor inhibition rate of high-dose (100 mg/kg) TSRP is 90.84%. The TUNEL test results show that the fluorescence intensity of the tumor issue treated with TSRP is significantly improved. Compared with the control group, the fluorescence intensity of high-concentration TSRP is 82.43 ± 7.81, which is significantly different (P < 0.001). The results of immunohistochemistry test showed that the Bcl-2 expression of Raji cell treated with TSRP is obviously reduced, and Bax expression is obviously increased. Meanwhile, compared with that of control group, Fas expression is obviously reduced. MTT assay showed that TSRP can significantly inhibit proliferation of Raji cells with dose dependence. The inhibition rate of 400 μg/mL TSRP is 53.46 ± 4.90% (P < 0.001). DAPI staining results showed that TSRP can significantly induce cell apoptosis. According to Western blot results, it is found that TSRP can significantly inhibit activity of Bcl-2 and increase Bax expression, and TSRP can also inhibit Fas expression. Meanwhile, expression of Caspase-9 and Caspase-3 is also increased. Conclusion: TSRP could inhibit the proliferation of lymphoma via induction of apoptosis in a time and dose-dependent manner. Apoptotic signaling induced by TSRP was characterized by up-regulating Bax, Fas and Caspase-8 protein expression, and down-regulating of Bcl-2 protein expression.

The response surface methodology was used to optimize the hydrothermal processing conditions based on the rice quality parameters of the Rong Youhua Zhan rice variety (Indica). The effect of soaking temperature (29.77, 40, 55, 70, and 80.23°C), soaking time (67.55, 90, 120, 150, and 170.45 min), and steaming time (1.59, 5, 10, 15, and 18.41 min), each tested at five levels, on percentage of head rice yield (HRY), hardness, cooking time, lightness, and color were determined, with R2 values of 0.96, 0.94, 0.90, 0.88, and 0.94, respectively. HRY, hardness, cooking time, and color increased with process severity while lightness decreased, although HRY decreased after reaching a maximum. The predicted optimum soaking temperature, soaking time, and steaming time were 69.88°C, 150 min, and 6.73 min, respectively, and the predicted HRY, hardness, cooking time, lightness, and color under these conditions were 73.43%, 29.95 N, 32.14 min, 83.03 min, and 12.24 min, respectively, with a composite desirability of 0.9658. The parboiling industry could use the findings of the current study to obtain the desired quality of parboiled rice. This manuscript will be helpful for researchers working on commercializing parboiled rice processes in China as well as in other countries.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) makes the Raman signals, as fingerprints of different vibration modes of chemical bonds, significant in practical applications. Two main mechanisms, chemical and physical, are attributed to the SERS of molecules adsorbed on metals. The physical mechanism plays a major role in SERS, which is the focus of our paper. Recent SERS systems are mostly based on dimer structures, i.e. nanoparticle pairs, of noble metals. Large amplification of electrical field occurs in the gap of a dimer structure compared with a single nanoparticle. The above gap positions are called as " hot spots” of SERS. In addition, the reproducibility and reliability of SERS substrates are also important for practical applications. Here we use periodical subwavelength metallic structures to meet such needs, and develop other kinds of electrical field enhancement mechanisms. We present the electrical field enhancement of the band-edge mode of surface plasmon polariton, gap plasmon polariton mode, as well as their coupling mode. We choose one-dimensional subwavelength metallic structures to clarify the physical mechanism. Our purpose is to develop subwavelength metallic structures with even and intensive " hot spots”, serving as ultrasensitive solid-state SERS substrates with excellent reproducibility and reliability.

GaN nanowires doped with 2at.% and 6at.% Cu ions are synthesized by chemical vapour deposition method. Structural and compositional analyses demonstrate that the as-grown nanowires are of single crystal wurtzite GaN structure. Magnetic characterizations reveal that the doped GaN nanowires exhibit room temperature ferromagnetism. The measured saturation magnetic moments are 0.37μB and 0.47μB per Cu atom at 300K for Cu 2at.% and 6at.%, respectively. The photoluminescence spectra show that Cu dopant can tune the band gap of the GaN, which leads to a red shift of band-edge emission with increasing dopant concentration.

Steam explosion pressure, holding time and initial moisture content of red beans were used as variables for the experimental design, according to BBD (Box-Behnken) central composite model. Red beans were processed in steam explosion and the changes of protein, fat, cellulose and other nutritive contents of red beans, changes of hardness, springiness, chewiness and other texture properties, and changes of puffing ratio and cooking properties after the steam explosion processing were determined to analyze the effects of steam explosion processing on quality of red beans. After the processing, the content of crude protein, crude fat and crude cellulose decreased by 0.84%, 0.02% and 0.33% respectively, while the content of starch increased by 0.58%, but no significant effect of steam explosion processing on nutritive contents of red beans was identified (P>0.05); after the steam explosion processing, the average springiness and chewiness increased by 0.15mm, 1.07mJ respectively, but no significant difference with that before such processing was identified (P>0.05). Enormous efforts have been made to manipulate the light-matter interactions, especially in sub-diffraction-limited space, leading to miniaturized and integrated photonic devices. In physics, an elementary excitation, called polariton, which is the quantum of the coupled photon and polar elementary excitation wave field, underlies the light-matter interaction. In the dispersion relation, polaritons behave as anti-crossing interacting resonance. Surface polaritons provide ultra-confinement of electromagnetic field at the interface, opening up possibilities for sub-diffraction-limited devices, and various field enhancement effects. In the electromagnetic spectra, terahertz (THz) regime was called THz gap before the 1990s, but has now been thrust into the limelight with great significance. This review is devoted to the emerging but rapidly developing field of sub-diffraction-limited THz photonics, with an emphasis on the materials and the physics of surface polaritons. A large breadth of different flavours of materials and surface polaritonic modes have been summarized. The former includes metallic, dielectric, semiconductor, two-dimensional (2D) materials, metamaterials, etc.; the latter covers surface phonon-, plasmon-, and hybrid polaritons. In the THz regime, 2D surface plasmon polariton and artificial surface phonon polaritons offer more attractive advantages in ability to obtain low-loss, tunable, ultracompact light-matter modes.
