Abstract

Long-distance entanglement distribution is essential both for foundational tests of quantum physics and scalable quantum networks. Owing to channel loss, however, the previously achieved distance was limited to ~100 km. Here, we demonstrate satellite-based distribution of entangled photon pairs to two locations separated by 1203 km on the Earth, through satellite-to-ground two-downlink with a sum of length varies from 1600 km to 2400 km. We observe a survival of two-photon entanglement and a violation of Bell inequality by 2.37+/-0.09 under strict Einstein locality conditions. The obtained effective link efficiency at 1200 km in this work is over 12 orders of magnitude higher than the direct bidirectional transmission of the two photons through the best commercial telecommunication fibers with a loss of 0.16 dB/km., Comment: submitted version, 17 pages, 6 figures

Abstract

The use of palladium chloride as a precatalyst for the amination of aryl bromides is reported. To overcome the poor solubility of palladium chloride in commonly used solvents, a procedure was developed in which Pd[Cl.sub.2] was preheated with neat amine in the presence of a phosphine ligand before the addition of the other reaction components. This protocol is effective for a broad range of substrate combinations using several types of phosphine ligands. Key words: palladium chloride, amination, aryl bromide, phosphine ligand.

Abstract

Research discusses the synthesis of an unique trinuclear ligand system, H(sub)4(PDK) in a multistep protocol using two molecules of Kemp's triacid and one molecule of porphyrin as building blocks. The ligand system is used against porphyrin-based diamine bis(Kemp's triacid)-imide. Data indicate hydrogen bonding interactions between Kemp's triacid units occur.

Abstract

The reactivity of Rh(CH2)6Rh and CO with a series of substrates such as H2O, C2H5OH and H2 were analyzed to characterize the resulting products and reaction process. Analysis of the reaction between the Rh(II) porphyrin bimetalloradical complex with the substrates indicated the presence of highly thermodynamic sequential reactions that led to the formation of a formyl-estr complex. Furthermore, the resulting product was composed of rhodium ester and formyl units.

Abstract

During the optical observation of space objects, it is difficult to enable the background stars to get matched when the telescope pointing error and tracking error are significant. Based on the idea of decreasing redundancy matching, an effective recognition method for background stars is proposed in this paper. The simulative images under different conditions and the observed images are used to verify the proposed method. The experimental results show that the proposed method has raised the rate of recognition and reduced the time consumption, it can be used to match star patterns accurately and rapidly.

Abstract

The protective effect of an alpha-glucan (designated here as MT-α-glucan) from fruit body of maitake (Grifola frondosa) on NIT-1 pancreatic β-cells damaged by streptozotocin (STZ) in vitro was investigated. The cell viability, insulin secretion, the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSHpx) and the content of reduced glutathione (GSH) increased significantly when the cells were incubated with MT-α-glucan (400, 200 μg ml(-1)). The content of malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO) production, and the activity of NO synthase (NOS), inducible NOS (iNOS) decreased significantly when the cells were incubated with MT-α-glucan. The destructive changes of NIT-1 cells ameliorated when incubated with MT-α-glucan under microscopic observation. These data suggested that MT-α-glucan had obvious protective effect on NIT-1 pancreatic β-cells damaged by STZ, which might be related to its effects of decreasing levels of β-cell-destroying factors such as oxidative stress and NO synthesis.

Abstract

Background The ability of sesamin from sesame meal to ameliorate insulin resistance in KK-Ay mice (an animal model of type 2 diabetes) was evaluated. Results Treatment with sesamin (100 or 50 mg kg−1) significantly decreased the level of fasting plasma glucose, glycosylated serum protein, serum insulin, triglycerides, cholesterol, free fatty acid and malondialdehyde content of livers. Treatment with sesamin significantly increased the content of hepatic glycogen, reduced glutathione and the activity of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase. Moreover, the insulin-binding capacity to liver crude plasma membranes increased and histopathological changes of the pancreas were ameliorated in the treatment group. Conclusion Sesamin has hypoglycaemic, hypolipidaemic and the ability to ameliorate insulin resistance in KK-Ay mice, which might be related to its effect on insulin receptors, and thus increases insulin sensitivity.© 2012 Society of Chemical Industry

Abstract

In order to observe the bombardment of the solar chromosphere by high-speed electrons from flares, the fine-structure heliograph at Gan-Yu station of Purple Mountain Observatory has been upgraded to a high-speed CCD instrument that takes H α filtergrams of solar local active regions. A focal reducer is added to the original optical system, and after introducing the polarization interference filter, the H α filtergrams at different wavebands can be obtained by the fast CCD terminal. After repeated tests and improvements during the years 1999–2004, the upgrading is now completed with good result: the spatial resolution reaches 1 arcsec, and the temporal resolution is 30–40 frames per second. In November 2004, a class-M1.1 flare was observed. Comparing the blue-shifted H α (H α –0.5 A) high-speed heliograms with the hard X-ray and microwave burst observations, we find that a pair of bright points moved toward each other during the rising phase of the initial flare. The converging motion was also displayed by the sources of the microwave burst. This phenomenon has never been observed before, and it can be explained as a shearing motion of the footpoints of the magnetic arch along the magnetic neutral line.
