We investigate the Ti-doping effect on the charge density wave (CDW) of 1T-TaS2 by combining scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) measurements and first-principle calculations. Although the Ti-doping induced phase evolution seems regular with increasing of the doping concentration (x), an unexpected chiral CDW phase is observed in the sample with x = 0.08, in which Ti atoms almost fully occupy the central Ta atoms in the CDW clusters. The emergence of the chiral CDW is proposed to be from the doping-enhanced orbital order. Only when x = 0.08, the possible long-range orbital order can trigger the chiral CDW phase. Compared with other 3d-elements doped 1T-TaS2, the Ti-doping retains the electronic flat band and the corresponding CDW phase, which is a prerequisite for the emergence of chirality. We expect that introducing elements with a strong orbital character may induce a chiral charge order in a broad class of CDW systems. The present results open up another avenue for further exploring the chiral CDW materials., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures

To satisfy the requirement of heavy ion synchrotron for intense highly charged ion beams, a comprehensive study of the afterglow mode was performed with two advanced electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) ion sources, i.e., a second-generation ECR ion source (LECR4) and a third-generation ECR ion source (SECRAL-II). Intense pulsed uranium ion beams of highly charged states were produced with both ion sources (e.g., 58 eμA of
238 U39+ in LECR4 and 124 eμA of238 U46+ in SECRAL-II). Compared to the beam intensity records obtained in continuous wave mode, the gain factor is up to ∼6. It was found that the optimum microwave pulse width and the decay time in SECRAL-II operating at 24 GHz are obviously longer than those in LECR4 operating at 14.5 GHz, aligning with a previous observation made with SECRAL-II ion source. Condensed Matter - Superconductivity - Abstract
(Li0.8Fe0.2)OHFeSe is a newly-discovered intercalated iron-selenide superconductor with a Tc above 40 K, which is much higher than the Tc of bulk FeSe (8 K). Here we report a systematic study of (Li0.8Fe0.2)OHFeSe by low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). We observed two kinds of surface terminations, namely FeSe and (Li0.8Fe0.2)OH surfaces. On the FeSe surface, the superconducting state is fully gapped with double coherence peaks, and a vortex core state with split peaks near EF is observed. Through quasi-particle interference (QPI) measurements, we clearly observed intra- and inter-pocket scatterings in between the electron pockets at the M point, as well as some evidence of scattering that connects gamma and M points. Upon applying magnetic field, the QPI intensity of all the scattering channels are found to behave similarly. Furthermore, we studied impurity effects on the superconductivity by investigating intentionally introduced impurities and intrinsic defects. We observed that magnetic impurities such as Cr adatoms can induce in-gap states and suppress superconductivity. However, nonmagnetic impurities such as Zn adatoms do not induce visible in-gap states. Meanwhile, we show that Zn adatoms can induce in-gap states in thick FeSe films, which is believed to have an (s+-)wave pairing symmetry. Our experimental results suggest it is likely that (Li0.8Fe0.2)OHFeSe is a plain s-wave superconductor, whose order parameter has the same sign on all Fermi surface sections., Comment: 18 pages, 9 figures, supplementary information included

Condensed Matter - Superconductivity - Abstract
Single-layer FeSe film on SrTiO3(001) was recently found to be the champion of interfacial superconducting systems, with a much enhanced superconductivity than the bulk iron-based superconductors. Its superconducting mechanism is of great interest. Although the film has a simple Fermi surface topology, its pairing symmetry is unsettled. Here by using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), we systematically investigated the superconductivity of single-layer FeSe/SrTiO3(001) films. We observed fully gapped tunneling spectrum and magnetic vortex lattice in the film. Quasi-particle interference (QPI) patterns reveal scatterings between and within the electron pockets, and put constraints on possible pairing symmetries. By introducing impurity atoms onto the sample, we show that the magnetic impurities (Cr, Mn) can locally suppress the superconductivity but the non-magnetic impurities (Zn, Ag and K) cannot. Our results indicate that single-layer FeSe/SrTiO3 has a plain s-wave paring symmetry whose order parameter has the same phase on all Fermi surface sections., Comment: 25 pages, 16 figures

Condensed Matter - Superconductivity - Abstract
The recent observation of high-temperature superconductivity in one unit cell thick FeSe on SrTiO3 (1UC FeSe/STO)1 initiated a new pathway to realizing even higher transition temperature (Tc) superconductors and established a promising different paradigm to understand the mechanism of high temperature superconductivity2-10. However, independent confirmation on the high Tc value, the role of capping layer in reducing Tc, and the underlying mechanism of the novel superconductivity remain open questions11. Here we report a time-resolved study of the excited state ultrafast dynamics of 1UC FeSe/STO protected by 2UC FeTe capping layer, and identify the superconducting Tc to be 68 (-5/+2) K. We found a coherent acoustic phonon mode in the capping layer, which provides an additional decay channel to the gluing bosons and explains the reduced Tc value. Our investigation supports the phonon pairing scenario.

Condensed Matter - Superconductivity - Abstract
Recent reports of interface-induced superconductivity in the unit-cell films of FeSe on SrTiO3 with a Tc up to ~ 65+-5 K, highest among the Fe-based superconductors and second only to that of the cuprates, have generated great excitement. Here we show results of the first magnetic and resistive investigation on the 1-4 unit-cell FeSe-films on SrTiO3. The samples display the Meissner state below ~ 20 K with a penetration field as low as 0.1 Oe due to large edge effect at 2 K, a mesoscopic superconducting state comprising patches of dimension < 1 micrometer up to 45~55 K and an unusual relaxation of the diamagnetic signal up to 80 K, suggesting possible superconductivity at this high temperature. The observations demonstrate the heterogeneous nature of the superconducting state in these films and offer new insights into the role of interfaces in high temperature superconductivity proposed and future superconducting electronics fabricated.

- Abstract
OBJECTIVE: Perioperative anxiety and depression syndrome (PADS) is a common clinical concern among women with systemic tumors. Esketamine has been considered for its potential to alleviate anxiety and depressive symptoms. However, its specific application and effectiveness in PADS among women with systemic tumors remain unclear. This study aimed to analyze the utility of Machine Learning (ML) algorithms based on electroencephalogram (EEG) signals in evaluating perioperative anxiety and depression in women with systemic tumors treated with Esketamine, utilizing a large-scale medical data background. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A single-center, randomized, placebo-controlled (SC-RPC) trial design was adopted. A total of 112 female patients with systemic tumors and PADS who received Esketamine treatment were included as study participants. A moderate dose (0.7 mg/kg) of Esketamine was administered through intravenous infusion over a duration of 60 minutes. EEG signals were collected from all patients, and the EEG signal features of individuals with depression were compared to those without depression. In this study, a Support Vector Machine (SVM)-K-Nearest Neighbour (KNN) hybrid classifier was constructed based on SVM and KNN algorithms. Using the EEG signals, the classifier was utilized to assess the anxiety and depression status of the patients. The predictive performance of the classifier was evaluated using accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity measures. RESULTS: The C2 correntropy feature of the delta rhythm in the left-brain EEG signal was significantly higher in individuals with depression compared to those without depression (p<0.05). Moreover, the C2 correntropy feature of the Alpha, Beta, and Gamma rhythms in the left-brain EEG signal was significantly lower in individuals with depression compared to those without depression (p<0.05). In the right brain EEG signal, the C2 correntropy feature of the delta rhythm was significantly higher in individuals with depression p<0.05), while the C2 correntropy feature of the alpha and gamma rhythms was significantly lower in individuals with depression compared to those without depression (p<0.05). Additionally, the C1 correntropy feature of the Gamma rhythm in the right brain EEG signal was significantly higher in individuals with depression compared to those without depression (p<0.05). The SVM classifier achieved accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of 98.23%, 98.10%, and 98.56%, respectively, in recognizing the leftbrain EEG signals, with a correlation coefficient of 0.95. In recognizing the right brain EEG signals, the SVM classifier achieved accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of 98.74%, 98.43%, and 99.03%, respectively, with a correlation coefficient of 0.96. The improved SVM-KNN approach yielded an accuracy, recall, precision, F-score, area over the curve (AOC), and Receiver Operation Characteristics (ROC) of 0.829, 0.811, 0.791, 0.853, 0.787, and 0.877, respectively, in predicting anxiety. For predicting depression, the accuracy, recall, precision, F-score, AOC, and ROC were 0.869, 0.842, 0.831, 0.893, 0.827, and 0.917, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Significant differences were observed in the brain EEG signals between individuals with depression and those without depression. The improved SVM-KNN algorithm developed in this study demonstrates good predictive capability for anxiety and depression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The use of tightly packed arrays of probes can achieve the much desirable goal of increasing the throughput of scanning probe devices. However the proximity of the probes induces coupling in their dynamics, which increases the complexity of the overall device. In this paper we analyze and model the behavior of a pair of electrostatically and mechanically coupled microcantilevers. For the common case of periodic driving voltage, we show that the underlying linearized dynamics are governed by a pair of coupled Mathieu equations. We provide experimental evidence that confirms the validity of the mathematical model proposed, which is verified by finite element simulations as well. The coefficients of electrostatic and mechanical coupling are estimated respectively by frequency identification methods and noise analysis. Finally, we discuss parametric resonance for coupled oscillators and include a mapping of the first order coupled parametric resonance region.

Objective Robson's Ten Group Classification System (TGCS) creates clinically relevant sub‐groups for monitoring caesarean birth rates. This study assesses whether this classification can be derived from routine data in Europe and uses it to analyse national caesarean rates. Design Observational study using routine data. Setting Twenty‐seven EU member states plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and the UK. Population All births at ≥22 weeks of gestational age in 2015. Methods National statistical offices and medical birth registers derived numbers of caesarean births in TGCS groups. Main outcome measures Overall caesarean rate, prevalence and caesarean rates in each of the TGCS groups. Results Of 31 countries, 18 were able to provide data on the TGCS groups, with UK data available only from Northern Ireland. Caesarean birth rates ranged from 16.1 to 56.9%. Countries providing TGCS data had lower caesarean rates than countries without data (25.8% versus 32.9%, P = 0.04). Countries with higher caesarean rates tended to have higher rates in all TGCS groups. Substantial heterogeneity was observed, however, especially for groups 5 (previous caesarean section), 6, 7 (nulliparous/multiparous breech) and 10 (singleton cephalic preterm). The differences in percentages of abnormal lies, group 9, illustrate potential misclassification arising from unstandardised definitions. Conclusions Although further validation of data quality is needed, using TGCS in Europe provides valuable comparator and baseline data for benchmarking and surveillance. Higher caesarean rates in countries unable to construct the TGCS suggest that effective routine information systems may be an indicator of a country's investment in implementing evidence‐based caesarean policies. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a crucial role in the growth, development, morphogenesis, signal transduction, and stress response in plants. The ICE (Inducer of CBF expression)‐CBF (C‐repeat binding factor)‐COR (Cold‐regulated gene) regulatory cascade is an important signalling pathway in plant response to low temperature stress, and it remains unknown whether this pathway is regulated by miRNAs.In this study, high‐throughput sequencing was employed for predicting and identifying the miRNAs that were likely to target the ICE‐CBF‐COR pathway in Eucalyptus camaldulensis. A novel ICE1‐targeting miRNA, eca‐novel‐miR‐259‐5p (nov‐miR259), was further analysed.A total of 392 conserved miRNAs and 97 novel miRNAs were predicted, including 80 differentially expressed miRNAs. Of these, 30 miRNAs were predicted to be associated with the ICE‐CBF‐COR pathway. The full‐length of mature nov‐miR259 was 22 bp and its precursor gene was 60 bp in length, with a typical hairpin structure. The RNA ligase‐mediated 5′ amplification of cDNA ends (5′‐RLM‐RACE) and Agrobacterium‐mediated tobacco transient expression assays demonstrated that nov‐miR259 could cleave EcaICE1 in vivo. Moreover, qRT‐PCR and Pearson's correlation analysis further revealed that the expression levels of nov‐miR259 were almost significantly negatively correlated with those of its target gene, EcaICE1, and the other genes in the ICE‐CBF‐COR pathway. We first identified the nov‐miR259 as a novel ICE1‐targeting miRNA, and the nov‐miR259‐ICE1 module may be involved in regulating the cold stress response in E. camaldulensis. - Abstract
OBJECTIVE: Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) is as a common form of venous thrombosis and a potentially fatal cardiovascular disorder, which has become a severe clinical problem with high incidence and mortality. The PTE has a strong genetic basis, which contributes up to half of the variance in PTE incidence and susceptibility single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) is associated with PTE. Betaine homocysteine methyltransferase (BHMT) is an essential enzyme that catalyzes the remethylating reaction from homocysteine to methionine and participates in conserving methionine and detoxifying homocysteine. In this work, we aimed to explore BHMT polymorphism and susceptibility to PTE in Chinese patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Variant loci of the BHMT gene were screened in serum samples of PTE patients, followed by verification using Sanger sequencing. These polymorphic loci were validated in 16 PTE patients and 16 matched normal patients. The frequency differences between the allele and genotypes were compared using the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium test and Chi-square test. RESULTS: A SNP was identified in PTE patients and a heterozygous transition of G>A (Arg239Gln) in rs3733890 was found. The variance difference at rs3733890 between normal patients (2/16, 0.125) and PTE patients (9/16, 0.5625) was significant (p<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Therefore, we concluded that the BHMT polymorphism, rs3733890 may be a susceptibility SNP for PTE. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this paper is to enhance the validity of existing evolutionary topology optimization procedures. As this hard-killing scheme related to the element sensitivity values may lead to incorrect predictions of inefficient elements to be removed and the value of the objective function becomes sharply deteriorated during the iterations, a check position (CP) control is proposed to prevent the erroneous topology design generated by the rejection criteria of evolutionary methods. For this purpose, we introduce a sort of orthotropic cellular microstructure (OCM) element with moderate pseudo-density that acts as a compromising element between solid element and void OCM element. In this way, all inefficient elements removed previously are automatically replaced with the moderate OCM elements depending upon the deterioration of the objective function. Erroneously removed elements are then identified in the updated finite element model through a direct sensitivity computing of the moderate OCM elements and will be finally recovered by the bi-directional element replacement. Besides, detailed structures with checkerboard patterns are eliminated by controlling the local structural bandwidth with the so-called threshold method. Typical optimization examples of structural compliance and natural frequency that were difficult to tackle are solved by the proposed design procedure. Satisfactory numerical results are obtained.

A Coupled Shape and Topology Optimization (CSTO) method is proposed here to deal with the layout design of the multi-component system. Considering a complex packing system for which several components will be placed in a container of specific shape, the aim of the design procedure is to find the optimal location and orientation of each component as well as the configuration of the structure that supports and interconnects the components. Compared with existing packing design approaches, two significant improvements are made in the CSTO method. On the one hand, a new Finite-circle Method (FCM) is used here to discretize boundaries of all components and the container into a number of circum-circles. Hence geometric constraints can be suitably modelled to avoid the overlap among the components as well as the overlap between the components and the container contour. Besides, the FCM approximation is also convenient to deal with components and the container with concave or some other complex shapes. On the other hand, the design procedure is able to take into account the mechanical performances of the structural system. Here, the location and the orientation of the components will be updated to improve the system rigidity by using shape optimization procedure. Meanwhile, the optimal material layout of the supporting structure in the design domain is designed by topology optimization. Due to the iterative movement of components, the technique of the embedded mesh is used to update the local FE mesh around each component in the design domain and pseudo density design variables assigned to density points instead of finite elements will be used to follow such a FE mesh variation. Several design problems are tested in this paper, and numerical results show the proposed CSTO method extends the actual concept of topology optimization and is efficient to generate reasonable design patterns.
