Abstract

We present VisionFM, a foundation model pre-trained with 3.4 million ophthalmic images from 560,457 individuals, covering a broad range of ophthalmic diseases, modalities, imaging devices, and demography. After pre-training, VisionFM provides a foundation to foster multiple ophthalmic artificial intelligence (AI) applications, such as disease screening and diagnosis, disease prognosis, subclassification of disease phenotype, and systemic biomarker and disease prediction, with each application enhanced with expert-level intelligence and accuracy. The generalist intelligence of VisionFM outperformed ophthalmologists with basic and intermediate levels in jointly diagnosing 12 common ophthalmic diseases. Evaluated on a new large-scale ophthalmic disease diagnosis benchmark database, as well as a new large-scale segmentation and detection benchmark database, VisionFM outperformed strong baseline deep neural networks. The ophthalmic image representations learned by VisionFM exhibited noteworthy explainability, and demonstrated strong generalizability to new ophthalmic modalities, disease spectrum, and imaging devices. As a foundation model, VisionFM has a large capacity to learn from diverse ophthalmic imaging data and disparate datasets. To be commensurate with this capacity, in addition to the real data used for pre-training, we also generated and leveraged synthetic ophthalmic imaging data. Experimental results revealed that synthetic data that passed visual Turing tests, can also enhance the representation learning capability of VisionFM, leading to substantial performance gains on downstream ophthalmic AI tasks. Beyond the ophthalmic AI applications developed, validated, and demonstrated in this work, substantial further applications can be achieved in an efficient and cost-effective manner using VisionFM as the foundation.

21. Modelling and Validation of Power Electronics Converter Systems using Coloured Petri Nets

Abstract

We apply Coloured Petri Nets (CPNs) and the CPN Tools to develop a formal model of an embedded system consisting of a power converter and an associated controller. Matlab/Simulink is the de-facto tool for embedded control and system design, but it relies on informal semantics and has limited support for transparent and integrated specification and validation of both the power converter electronics, controller (hardware), and the control logic (software). The contribution of this paper is to develop a timed hierarchical CPN model that mitigates the shortcomings of Simulink by relying on a Petri net formalisation. We demonstrate the application of our approach by developing a fully integrated model of a buck power converter with controller in CPN Tools. Furthermore, we perform time-domain simulation to verify the capability of the controller to serve the control objectives. To validate the developed CPN model, we compare the simulation results obtained in an open-loop configuration with a corresponding implementation in Simulink. The experimental results show correspondence between the CPN model and the Simulink model. As our CPN model reflects the fully integrated system, we are able to compare CPN simulation results to measurements obtained with a corresponding implementation in real hardware/software and compare closed-loop with open-loop configuration. Abstract

This paper summarized the integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine nursing practice of an elderly hypertensive patient with COVID-19. An integrative nursing plan was established based on the syndrome differentiation. Traditional Chinese Medicine nursing techniques such as auricular acupoint pressing, acupoint application and intradermal needling were carried out in addition to the routine nursing interventions including nursing evaluation, disinfection and isolation, illness condition monitoring, oral care, health education, psychological care and so on. The integrative nursing practice is effective to relieve the clinical symptom and improve the rehabilitation of the patient. 24. Study of the efficacy of cochleural alternating acoustic beam therapy combined with internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic idiopathic tinnitus

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of the cochleural alternating acoustic beam therapy （CeAABT） combined with internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy （iCBT） for chronic idiopathic tinnitus. Methods One hundred and twelve patients who were diagnosed with chronic idiopathic tinnitus were selected and randomly divided into two groups（both n = 65）. In the control group，iCBT was adopted and CeAABT combined with iCBT were given in the observation group for consecutive 12 weeks. The changes of the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory （THI），the Visual Analogue Scale （VAS） and tinnitus loudness before and after treatment were compared between two groups. Results After corresponding treatment，THI，VAS and tinnitus loudness were significantly reduced in two groups （all P < 0.05）. The THI score （35.34±7.51），VAS score （3.38±1.34） and tinnitus loudness（34.53±5.77） in the CeAABT combined with iCBT group were significantly lower than those in the control group（40.13±10.95，3.91±1.38 and 39.39±6.92），and the differences were statistically significant（all P < 0.05）. Conclusions CeAABT combined with iCBT can effectively reduce the tinnitus loudness and mitigate negative emotions caused by tinnitus. Besides，it can also improve the quality of life of patients with chronic tinnitus. It is a simple and safe treatment for tinnitus，which is worthy of further research and promotion.

Abstract

Antiferroelectric thin films have attracted blooming interest due to their potential application in energy storage areas. Pb(1−3x/2)LaxHfO3 (PLHO-x, x = 0–0.05) thin films were fabricated on Pt(111)/TiO2/SiO2/Si substrates via the chemical solution deposition method. The x-ray diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy results show that the doping of La3+, which has a smaller ion radius, leads to a slight decrease in the lattice constant and unit cell volume, which can induce the lattice distortion. In addition, the dielectric and polarization properties indicate that with an increase in the temperature or La3+ content, the antiferroelectric (AFE) I phase can transform into an AFE II phase, exhibiting a slimmer P–E loop with enhanced switching field and more pronounced polarization dispersion. Notably, PLHO-0.04 showcases excellent energy storage performance (55 J/cm3, at 2.8 MV/cm). This material also exhibits good thermal, frequency, and fatigue stability. These results suggest that the energy storage performance of PbHfO3-based films can be enhanced through the phase structure design, presenting a valuable approach to fulfill the growing demand for advanced energy storage devices.
