Abstract

Eutectic high‐entropy alloys (EHEAs), with good castability, compositional homogeneity, and outstanding properties, are becoming hotpots in materials field. It is worth noting that most reported EHEAs are based on expensive and high density of metal elements, such as Hf, Zr, Ta, Nb, W, and Pd, which increase the overall cost and quality. Herein, by selecting the cost‐effective and low‐density of Ti and Si as eutectic forming elements, a novel CoCrFeNi2(TiSi)0.7 EHEA with face‐centered‐cubic (FCC) + M16Ti6Si7‐type silicide is designed and prepared. The evolution of microstructure and mechanical properties is investigated under different annealing conditions. The CoCrFeNi2(TiSi)0.7 EHEA shows excellent high‐temperature mechanical properties. At 800 °C, the as‐cast and annealed samples do not fracture under a compressive strain exceeding 50%. In particular, a long period of high‐temperature annealing dramatically increases the high‐temperature yield strength from 510 to 703 MPa, which exceeds that of most reported EHEAs and some refractory high‐entropy alloys. 24. Thermal modification of brittle CoFeNi2(Ti3Si5)0.16 eutectic high-entropy alloy by annealing treatment.

Abstract

Adopting the idea of thermal modification of conventional Si-containing eutectic alloys, this study performed heating of the brittle CoFeNi2(Ti3Si5)0.16 eutectic high-entropy alloy under various annealing conditions to attempt the fragmentation and spheroidization of eutectic microstructure and improve fracture plasticity. Results reveal that the as-cast alloy exhibited fine eutectic microstructures with lamellar + network morphologies, consisting of face-centered cubic (FCC) and M16Ti6Si7-type silicide. After annealing at 1100°C × 120 h, the lamellar + network eutectic morphologies were effectively fragmented and spheroidized into granular + irregular morphologies. The resulting alloy featured excellent mechanical properties with an ultimate compressive strength (UCS) of 1980 ± 50 MPa, fracture plasticity of ∼16.6% ± 1%, and hardness of ∼448 ±15 HV. Compared with the as-cast specimen, the fracture plasticity of the specimen annealed for 120 h increased by 12.7 times, with no UCS reduction. With a further increase in the annealing time, the hard M16Ti6Si7-type silicide was seriously coarsened, deteriorating the alloy's room-temperature mechanical properties but improving its high-temperature ones. Abstract

The presence of blood–brain barrier (BBB) that limits effective penetration of therapeutics is the main reason for poor outcomes of glioblastoma (GBM) treatment. Ultrasound (US) combined with microbubbles (MBs) can precisely disrupt the tight junctions of brain endothelial cells, thus creating "acoustic pores" and non‐invasive opening the BBB. Here, chitosan oligosaccharide (COS) is conjugated with a sonosensitizer protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) and an immune‐enhancing adjuvant Poly(I:C) via electrostatic adsorption, and cross‐linked with a tumor‐targeting molecule hyaluronic acid (HA) affording nanosonosensitizers HA‐Poly(I:C)/COS‐PpIX (abbreviated as "HP/CP" NSs). HP/CP NSs can target and penetrate GBMs, and trigger reactive oxygen species production upon US, simultaneously causing mitochondrial dysfunction and DNA damage. Tumor‐associated antigens released by sonodynamic therapy‐induced immunogenic cell death and loaded Poly(I:C) form an in situ vaccine together to potentiate antitumor immune responses. In orthotopic GBM mice models, the HP/CP+US treatments prolong mice survival, enhance cytotoxic T‐lymphocytes infiltration, and activate peripheral immune circulation. Besides, HP/CP NSs possess favorable biosafety profiles. Collectively, this study sheds light on the application of HP/CP NSs for synergistic sono‐immunotherapy of GBMs after non‐invasive opening of the BBB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Sound field recording using spherical harmonics (SH) has been widely used. However, too many microphones are needed when recording sound fields over large areas, due to the capture of the higher order of spherical harmonic coefficients. The theory of GO in deep learning inspired us. With training the data much less than all GO’s legal positions data, the Alpha Go has defeated top GO players. According to the information learned from a specific dataset, the higher spherical harmonics coefficients may be estimated with few captured sound pressures. In this paper, a learning-based approach for estimation of the SH coefficients has been investigated. In the proposed approach, SH coefficients are estimated with a feed-forward neural network (FNN) based on measurements of a spherical array. We generate a uniformly distributed dataset, try to evaluate the method on an average situation. Moreover, with the real sound field data in the SOFiA dataset, we try to evaluate the performance of our method when the correlations of data are weak. Experimental results show that the proposed approach achieves higher estimation accuracy of SH coefficients than a previously reported method. In simulations, 9 microphones’ performance using the proposed approach can approximate an array with 16 microphones. The experiments confirmed the feasibility of estimating the SH coefficients with the data-driven method. Thus in a specific application, it can be used to reduce the required number of microphones.

Abstract

Sound field reproduction using Higher-order Ambisonics (HOA) has many studies in recent years. However, in the HOA, sound fields are reproduced with the least square solution of spherical harmonics (SH) coefficients and not the global sound fields. In this paper, we try to reduce the reproduction error with a data-driven method. As we all known, the Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) can be used to generate data similar to a data set. With the GAN, the target sound fields are converted to sound fields that can be reproduced accurately in the proposed approach. The data set of target sound fields is updated with the generated fields which have less reproduction error, and thus reproduction errors are reduced. We simulated the performance with four loudspeakers, sound fields of 4 orders SH coefficients are reproduced with GAN and HOA at 1000 Hz, with average reproduction errors of 0.3 and 0.6, respectively. Simulations show that the space between the least-square solution and the optimization solution is reduced with our method. Furthermore, the performances of HOA are optimized.

30. Enhanced strength-ductility synergy in a brittle CoCrNi2(V3B2Si)0.2eutectic high-entropy alloy by spheroidized M3B2and recrystallized FCC

Abstract

Eutectic high-entropy alloys (EHEAs) are receiving extensive attention due to their unique physical/chemical properties. However, apart from the face-centered-cubic (FCC) + B2 EHEA system, most other reported EHEA systems gradually lose their advantage for industrial applications due to inherent brittleness during tensile loading at room temperature. Here, a novel combination of spheroidization, cold-rolling, and recrystallization was applied in a brittle CoCrNi2−(V3B2Si)0.2EHEA to achieve the synergistically improved strength and ductility. A well-designed microstructure with spherical M3B2embedded at the grain boundaries of fine FCC was obtained. The resulting microstructure markedly increases the ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, and total elongation from 923 MPa, 620 MPa, and 1.3% to 1326–1530 MPa, 990–1330 MPa, and 8.4%–13.9%, increased by 43.7%–65.8%, 59.7%–114.5%, and 546%–969%, respectively. The strengthening and plasticizing mechanisms are mainly attributed to the multiple barriers that hinder dislocation movement and the customized microstructure that results in a uniform stress distribution, respectively. This work provides a new approach for synergistically improving the strength-ductility of brittle EHEAs to meet engineering safety requirements.

Abstract

Multichannel audio systems always need large numbers of loudspeakers and special placement, or sometimes need many subject evaluations to find an optimal arrangement. The application of multichannel systems is difficult in a typical home environment, where few number of loudspeakers, few subject evaluations and the placement flexibility are highly desirable.In this paper, a design of convex polyhedral loudspeaker arrays surround the target region is proposed for reducing multichannel system adaptively, and then derive an error metric to narrow down the subjective evaluation list. In such a way, a well-performed loudspeaker arrangement can be chosen by few subjective evaluations and placed in a restricted environment. The reproduction accuracy of the method is verified through numerical simulations, and the subjective evaluations indicate the effectiveness of the method.
