Abstract

A conventional superconducting state may be replaced by another dissipationless state hosting Cooper pairs with a finite momentum, leaving thermodynamic footprints for such a phase transition. Recently, a novel type of finite momentum pairing, so-called orbital Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state, has been proposed to occur in spin-orbit coupled superconductors such as bilayer $2\mathrm{H-NbSe_{2}}$. So far, a thermodynamic demonstration, which is key for establishing this exotic phase, has been lacking. Here, we reveal a first-order quantum phase transition to the orbital FFLO state in tunneling spectroscopic measurements on multilayer $2\mathrm{H-NbSe_{2}}$. The phase transition manifests itself as a sudden enhancement of the superconducting gap at an in-plane magnetic field $B_{//}$ well below the upper critical field. Furthermore, this transition shows prominent hysteresis by sweeping $B_{//}$ back and forth and quickly disappears once the magnetic field is tilted away from the sample plane by less than one degree. We obtain a comprehensive phase diagram for the orbital FFLO state and compare it with the theoretical calculation that takes into account the rearrangement of Josephson vortices. Our work elucidates the microscopic mechanism for the emergence of the orbital FFLO state.

2. Molecular Beam Epitaxy Growth and Doping Modulation of Topological Semimetal NiTe$_2$

Abstract

In this study, high-quality thin films of the topological semimetal phase NiTe$_2$ were prepared using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) technique, confirmed through X-ray diffraction with pronounced Laue oscillations. Electrical transport experiments reveal that thick films have properties similar to bulk materials. By employing co-deposition, we introduced either magnetic or non-magnetic elements during the growth of thinner films, significantly altering their electrical properties. Notably, magnetic element Cr induces long-range ferromagnetic ordering, leading to the observation of significant anomalous Hall effect in NiTe2 thin films. The Hall conductivity remains nearly constant well below the Curie temperature, indicating the correlation with the intrinsic topological nature of the band structure. Theoretical first principles band calculations support the generation of the Weyl semimetal state in the material through magnetic doping. These findings pave the way for exploring more magnetic Weyl semimetal materials and related low-dimensional quantum devices based on topological semimetal materials., Comment: 14 panges, 4 figures

3. Isovalent alloying assisted anomalous valley Hall effect in hexagonal antiferromagnetic monolayer

Abstract

Exploring combination of antiferromagnetic (AFM) spintronics and anomalous valley Hall effect (AVHE) is one of the most important questions for valleytronic applications. The key to address this issue is to achieve spin splitting around the valleys in AFM systems. Here, we propose a possible way for achieving AVHE in hexagonal AFM monolayer, which involves the isovalent alloying. This can break the combined symmetry ($PT$ symmetry) of spatial inversion ($P$) and time reversal ($T$), giving rise to spin splitting. More specifically, the large spin splitting around the Fermi energy level owes to $d$ orbital mismatch among these different transition metal ions. Based on first-principles calculations, the proposed way can be verified in out-of-plane AFM $\mathrm{CrMoC_2S_6}$ monolayer, which possesses spontaneous valley polarization and spitting splitting, providing possibility to realize AVHE. It is also proved that tensile strain can strengthen the valley splitting and maintain the out-of-plane AFM ordering. 4. Large spontaneous valley polarization and anomalous valley Hall effect in antiferromagnetic monolayer $\mathrm{Fe_2CF_2}$

Abstract

Superior to ferromagnetic (FM) materials, antiferromagnetic (AFM) materials do not have any net magnetic moment and are robust to external magnetic perturbation with ultra-high dynamic speed. To achieve spontaneous valley polarization and anomalous valley Hall effect (AVHE) in AFM materials is of great significance for potential applications in spintronics and valleytronics. Here, we predict an A-type AFM monolayer $\mathrm{Fe_2CF_2}$ with large spontaneous valley polarization. Monolayer $\mathrm{Fe_2CF_2}$ has zero Berry curvature in momentum space but non-zero layer-locked hidden Berry curvature in real space, which provides the basic conditions for the realization of AVHE. Because $\mathrm{Fe_2CF_2}$ possesses the combined symmetry ($PT$ symmetry) of spatial inversion ($P$) and time reversal ($T$) symmetry, the spin is degenerate, which prevents the AVHE. An out-of-plane external electric field can be used to produce spin splitting due to the introduction of layer-dependent electrostatic potential, and then layer-locked AVHE can be realized in $\mathrm{Fe_2CF_2}$. Moreover, the spin order of spin splitting can be reversed, when the direction of electric field is reversed. It is proved that the AVHE can be achieved in Janus $\mathrm{Fe_2CFCl}$ without external electric field due to intrinsic built-in electric field. Our works provide an AFM monolayer with excellent properties to realize AVHE.

Abstract

MYC-driven medulloblastomas are highly aggressive childhood brain tumors, however, the molecular and genetic events triggering MYC amplification and malignant transformation remain elusive. Here we report that mutations in CTDNEP1, a CTD nuclear-envelope-phosphatase, are the most significantly enriched recurrent alterations in MYC-driven medulloblastomas, and define high-risk subsets with poorer prognosis. Ctdnep1 ablation promotes the transformation of murine cerebellar progenitors into Myc-amplified medulloblastomas, resembling their human counterparts. CTDNEP1 deficiency stabilizes and activates MYC activity by elevating MYC serine-62 phosphorylation, and triggers chromosomal instability to induce p53 loss and Myc amplifications. Further, phosphoproteomics reveals that CTDNEP1 post-translationally modulates the activities of key regulators for chromosome segregation and mitotic checkpoint regulators including topoisomerase TOP2A and checkpoint kinase CHEK1. Co-targeting MYC and CHEK1 activities synergistically inhibits CTDNEP1-deficient MYC-amplified tumor growth and prolongs animal survival. Together, our studies demonstrate that CTDNEP1 is a tumor suppressor in highly aggressive MYC-driven medulloblastomas by controlling MYC activity and mitotic fidelity, pointing to a CTDNEP1-dependent targetable therapeutic vulnerability.

Abstract

Brain tissue transcriptomes may be organized into gene coexpression networks, but their underlying biological drivers remain incompletely understood. Here, we undertook a large-scale transcriptomic study using 508 wild-type mouse striatal tissue samples dissected exclusively in the afternoons to define 38 highly reproducible gene coexpression modules. We found that 13 and 11 modules are enriched in cell-type and molecular complex markers, respectively. Importantly, 18 modules are highly enriched in daily rhythmically expressed genes that peak or trough with distinct temporal kinetics, revealing the underlying biology of striatal diurnal gene networks. Moreover, the diurnal coexpression networks are a dominant feature of daytime transcriptomes in the mouse cortex. We next employed the striatal coexpression modules to decipher the striatal transcriptomic signatures from Huntingtons disease models and heterozygous null mice for 52 genes, uncovering novel functions for Prkcq and Kdm4b in oligodendrocyte differentiation and bipolar disorder-associated Trank1 in regulating anxiety-like behaviors and nocturnal locomotion.
