1. Anomalous photo-induced band renormalization in correlated materials: Case study of Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$

Abstract

We investigate the anomalous photo-induced band renormalization in correlated materials, exemplified by the case of Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$. The manifestation of this anomaly is characterized by the alternating direction of band shift in response to changes in the laser parameters or electron momentum. We attribute the phenomena to the band inversion of the material and the selective excitation of a high-lying flat band, leading to the competition between the Hartree shift and the order collapse. These findings are based on {\it ab initio} determined effective model for Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$, in which we incorporate high-lying states and the time-dependent GW simulation to follow the non-equilibrium dynamics induced by the laser. Our findings reveal the sensitivity of the non-equilibrium electronic dynamics to the band structure and laser protocols, providing valuable guidance for the selection of suitable materials and lasers in the engineering of band structures.

4. Laser frequency stabilization and photoacoustic detection based on the tapered fiber coupled crystalline resonator

Abstract

We demonstrate laser frequency stabilization using a high-Q MgF2 crystalline whispering gallery mode resonator coupled with a tapered fiber. We discovered that the tapered fiber, acting as a microcantilever, exhibits mechanical resonance characteristics that is capable of transmitting acoustic perturbations to the frequency locking loop. Both experimental and theoretical investigations into the influence of external acoustic waves on the coupling system were conducted. After acoustic isolation, the locked laser exhibits a minimum frequency noise of 0.4Hz2/Hz at 7kHz and an integral linewidth of 68Hz (0.1s integration time). Benefiting from the ultralow frequency noise of the stabilized laser, it achieves a minimum noise equivalent acoustic signal level of 4.76*10-4 Pa/Hz1/2. Our results not only facilitate the realization of ultralow noise lasers but also serves as a novel and sensitive photoacoustic detector.

18. The Influence of Piaget in the Field of Learning Science

Abstract

As the most influential figure in the field of learning science, Piaget's research on children's concepts and consciousness, his concept of 'Piagetian education', his contribution to constructivism have been greatly adopted in education. However, the weaknesses of his work have been criticised by many scholars. This paper illustrates how Piaget's work has challenged traditional educational approach regarded as instructionism and the differences between Piaget's and Vygotsky's theories. This paper also discusses and compares the theories proposed by a number of other researchers based on Piaget's constructivism, including Papert's constructionism and his theory of children's use of computers; Lave's situated learning, and Wells' theory of group learning.

Abstract

Thermal insulation under extreme conditions requires materials that can withstand complex thermomechanical stress and retain excellent thermal insulation properties at temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Celsius1-3. Ceramic aerogels are attractive thermal insulating materials; however, at very high temperatures, they often show considerably increased thermal conductivity and limited thermomechanical stability that can lead to catastrophic failure4-6. Here we report a multiscale design of hypocrystalline zircon nanofibrous aerogels with a zig-zag architecture that leads to exceptional thermomechanical stability and ultralow thermal conductivity at high temperatures. The aerogels show a near-zero Poisson's ratio (3.3 × 10-4) and a near-zero thermal expansion coefficient (1.2 × 10-7 per degree Celsius), which ensures excellent structural flexibility and thermomechanical properties. They show high thermal stability with ultralow strength degradation (less than 1 per cent) after sharp thermal shocks, and a high working temperature (up to 1,300 degrees Celsius). By deliberately entrapping residue carbon species in the constituent hypocrystalline zircon fibres, we substantially reduce the thermal radiation heat transfer and achieve one of the lowest high-temperature thermal conductivities among ceramic aerogels so far-104 milliwatts per metre per kelvin at 1,000 degrees Celsius. The combined thermomechanical and thermal insulating properties offer an attractive material system for robust thermal insulation under extreme conditions.

Abstract

Civic and political affairs course is a key course for colleges and universities to implement the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral character, and the rapid development of network technology and the information age has had a direct impact on the Civic and political affairs course in colleges and universities. This paper puts forward the optimization path of virtual practice teaching for Civic and Political Science courses in colleges and universities from three aspects: establishing a virtual simulation practice teaching website for Civic and Political Science courses in colleges and universities, constructing a virtual simulation practice teaching information resource base for Civic and Political Science courses and optimizing the content system of virtual simulation practice teaching for Civic and Political Science courses. In order to verify the effect of virtual practice teaching, this paper proposes a new determination method as well as a Ridge regression model for the selection of Ridge parameter K in the Ridge trace method by analyzing the existence of Ridge parameter K and the excellence of Ridge estimation. The Ridge regression model was used to examine the impact of virtual teaching on college Civics and Politics classes and found that the standardized regression coefficient beta for the virtual teaching environment is 0.113, showing significant performance. For the virtual practice teaching of Civic and Political Science classes in colleges and universities, the better the virtual teaching environment is, the better the classroom learning effect.
