Abstract

Little is known about the effect of field management on soil quality in mining subsidence landscapes. In this study, we selected subsided cropland from the Jiaozuo coal mining district, China, to determine the effects of irrigation and tillage on soil organic carbon (SOC) and nutrients. Irrigation and tillage differentially affected the dynamics of SOC, total nitrogen (N) and total phosphorus (P) in subsided cropland at 15-18 years after surface subsidence. Tillage along a longitudinal slope-direction induced greater depletions of SOC, N and P stocks in subsided cropland compared with tillage along a transverse slope-direction ([T.sub.T]). These parameters were also more depleted under rainfed than under irrigated conditions. The distribution of SOC, total N and total P was related to soil redistribution by soil erosion in subsided cropland. Integrated irrigation-[T.sub.T] management reduced the within-field variations in SOC, total N and total P, and irrigation reduced within-field variation in SOC. These results indicate the effects of tillage and irrigation on soil erosion and subsequently on SOC and nutrients in subsided cropland. Practicing tillage over great subsidence gradients is detrimental to soil conservation. Combining small subsidence gradients with irrigation may be an alternative to traditional engineering reclamation of subsided cropland. Abstract

A new proton-unbound isotope $^{204}$Ac was produced in the fusion-evaporation reaction Tm(40169Ca,5n)204Ac and identified via the recoil-α correlation at the gas-filled recoiled separators SHANS2 and SHANS. The excitation function for producing $^{204}$Ac was measured and the optimal beam energy was evaluated to be 212 MeV. Nineteen ER - α1 - α2 - α3 decay chains were observed for this isotope. Based on these chains, the α-particle energy and half-life of $^{204}$Ac were determined to be 7948(15) keV and 7.4−1.4+2.2 ms, respectively. Both are consistent with the theoretical prediction. The reduced α-decay width was deduced to be 49−15+10 keV, which indicates a favored α decay for $^{204}$Ac. In addition, more precise decay properties of Eα = 7883(15) keV and T1/2 = 7.7−1.6+2.7 ms were obtained for $^{205}$Ac.

Abstract

The cyclostationary vibrational signal modulated by other signals can be considered as a special kind of nonstationary signal, which is found frequently in some rotating machinery. The modulation frequency component can be extracted from the total signal using second-order cyclic statistics at the appropriate cyclic frequency. By using the cyclic spectral density functions instead of power spectrum or spectrum as the variables, the cyclostationary nearfield acoustic holography (CYNAH) technique is used to reconstruct acoustic physical quantities in the cyclostationary sound field. In this presented work the CYNAH method is combined with the boundary element method (BEM) to overcome the limitations on the geometries of the planar CYNAH method. The methods used in the conventional BEM-based NAH to overcome nonuniqueness and the ill-posed nature should be also implemented here. The results of a simulation show satisfactory agreement between the computed values and the analytical ones.
