The recent report of pressure-induced structure transition and signature of superconductivity with Tc = 80 K above 14 GPa in the La3Ni2O7 crystals has garnered considerable attention. To further elaborate this discovery, we carried out comprehensive resistance measurements on the La3Ni2O7 crystals grown with the optical-image floating zone furnace under oxygen pressure (15 bar) by using the diamond anvil cell (DAC) and cubic anvil cell (CAC), which employs the solid and liquid pressure transmitting medium, respectively. For the sample #1 measured in DAC, it exhibits a semiconducting-like behavior with large resistance at low pressures and becomes metallic gradually upon compression. At the pressures P >= 13.7 GPa, we observed the appearance of resistance drop as large as ~50% around 70 K, which evolves into a kink-like anomaly at pressures above 40 GPa and shifts to lower temperatures gradually with increasing magnetic field. These observations are consistent with the recent report mentioned above. On the other hand, the sample #2 measured in CAC retains the metallic behavior in the investigated pressure range up to 15 GPa. The hump-like anomaly in resistance around ~130 K at ambient pressure disappears at P >= 2 GPa. In the pressure range from 11 to 15 GPa, we observed the gradual development of a shoulder-like anomaly in resistance at low temperatures, which evolves into a pronounced drop of resistance by 98% below 62 K at 15 GPa, reaching a temperature-independent resistance of 20 uOhm below 20 K. Similarly, this resistance anomaly can be shifted to lower temperatures progressively by applying external magnetic fields, resembling a typical superconducting transition., Comment: 4 Figures

The recent discovery of superconductivity in infinite-layer nickelates generates tremendous research endeavors, but the ground state of their parent compounds is still under debate. Here, we report experimental evidences for the dominant role of Kondo scattering in the underdoped Nd1-xSrxNiO2 thin films. A resistivity minimum associated with logarithmic temperature dependence in both longitudinal and Hall resistivities are observed in the underdoped Nd1-xSrxNiO2 samples before the superconducting transition. A linear scaling behavior $\sigma_{xy}^{AHE}\sim\sigma_{xx}$ between anomalous Hall conductivity $\sigma_{xy}^{AHE}$ and conductivity $\sigma_{xx}$ is revealed, verifying the dominant Kondo scattering at low temperature. The effect of weak (anti-)localization is found to be secondary. Our experiments can help clarifying the basic physics in the underdoped Nd1-xSrxNiO2 infinite-layer thin films.

Here we establish a more complete phase diagram for FeSe system, based on experimental results of nonstoichiometric Fe1-xSe single crystals that we have developed recently, as well as nearly stoichiometric FeSe single crystals. The electronic correlation is found to be strongly enhanced in hole-dominated Fe1-xSe, as compared with electron-dominated FeSe, from the magnetic susceptibility and electrical transport measurements in the normal state. A superconducting dome is found to emerge starting from the strongly correlated hole-dominated regime with electron doping, while the tetragonal-orthorhombic phase transition at ~90 K is observed only at higher electron-doping levels in the electron-dominated regime., Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures. Superconducting (Li1-xFex)OHFe1-ySe films are attractive for both the basic research and practical application. However, the conventional vapor deposition techniques are not applicable in synthesizing the films of such a complex system. So no intrinsic charge transport measurements on the films are available so far to reveal the nature of charge carriers, which is fundamental to understanding the iron-based superconductivity mechanism. Herein we report a soft chemical film technique (matrix-assisted hydrothermal epitaxial growth), by which we have succeeded in growing a series of (Li1-xFex)OHFe1-ySe films covering the whole superconducting regime, with the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) from 4 K up to 42 K. This film technique opens up a new way for fabricating other complex functional materials as well. Furthermore, our systematic transport investigation on the film samples indicates that both the electron and hole carriers contribute to the charge transport, with the scattering rates deviating from the Fermi liquid. We find that the superconductivity occurs upon the electron and hole mobility becoming divergent. And in the high Tc samples, the electron carriers are found much more mobile than the holes, a feature distinct from the low Tc samples. The importance of electron-hole interband interactions is widely acknowledged for iron-pnictide superconductors with high transition temperatures (Tc). However, high-Tc superconductivity without hole carriers has been suggested in FeSe single-layer films and intercalated iron-selenides, raising a fundamental question whether iron pnictides and chalcogenides have different pairing mechanisms. Here, we study the properties of electronic structure in the high-Tc phase induced by pressure in bulk FeSe from magneto-transport measurements and first-principles calculations. With increasing pressure, the low-Tc superconducting phase transforms into high-Tc phase, where we find the normal-state Hall resistivity changes sign from negative to positive, demonstrating dominant hole carriers in striking contrast to other FeSe-derived high-Tc systems. Moreover, the Hall coefficient is remarkably enlarged and the magnetoresistance exhibits anomalous scaling behaviors, evidencing strongly enhanced interband spin fluctuations in the high-Tc phase. These results in FeSe highlight similarities with high-Tc phases of iron pnictides, constituting a step toward a unified understanding of iron-based superconductivity.

Here we report the successful synthesis of a spin- & charge-decoupled diluted magnetic semiconductor (Ca,Na)(Zn,Mn)2As2, crystallizing into the hexagonal CaAl2Si2 structure. The compound shows a ferromagnetic transition with a Curie temperature up to 33 K with 10% Na doping, which gives rise to carrier density of np~10^20 cm^-3. The new DMS is a soft magnetic material with HC<400 Oe. The anomalous Hall effect is observed below the ferromagnetic ordering temperature. With increasing Mn doping, ferromagnetic order is accompanied by an interaction between the local spin and mobile charge, giving rise to a minimum in resistivity at low temperatures and localizing the conduction electrons. We have precisely determined the ground state phase diagram of the quantum spin-1 bilinear-biquadratic Heisenberg model on the honeycomb lattice using the tensor renormalization group method. We find that the ferromagnetic, ferroquadrupolar, and a large part of the antiferromagnetic phases are stable against quantum fluctuations. However, around the phase where the ground state is antiferroquadrupolar ordered in the classical limit, quantum fluctuations suppress completely all magnetic orders, leading to a plaquette order phase which breaks the lattice symmetry but preserves the spin SU(2) symmetry. The ground state of K$_{0.8+x}$Fe$_{1.6+y}$Se$_2$ and other iron-based selenide superconductors are doped antiferromagnetic semiconductors. There are well defined iron local moments whose energies are separated from those of conduction electrons by a large band gap in these materials. We propose that the low energy physics of this system is governed by a model Hamiltonian of interacting electrons with on-site ferromagnetic exchange interactions and inter-site superexchange interactions. We have derived the effective pairing potential of electrons under the linear spin-wave approximation and shown that the superconductivity can be driven by mediating coherent spin wave excitations in these materials. Our work provides a natural account for the coexistence of superconducting and antiferromagnetic long range orders observed by neutron scattering and other experiments., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures

A perturbation spin-wave theory for the quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnets on a square lattice is proposed to calculate the uniform static magnetic susceptibility at finite temperatures, where a divergence in the previous theories due to an artificial phase transition has been removed. To the zeroth order, the main features of the uniform static susceptibility are produced: a linear temperature dependence at low temperatures and a smooth crossover in the intermediate range and the Curie law at high temperatures. When the leading corrections from the spin-wave interactions are included, the resulting spin susceptibility in the full temperature range is in agreement with the numerical quantum Monte Carlo simulations and high-temperature series expansions., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

We report a giant resistance drop induced by dc electrical currents in La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 epitaxial thin films. Resistance of the patterned thin films decreases exponentially with increasing current and a maximum drop shows at the temperature of resistance peak Tp. Strong electron and spin correlations are studied in parallel-coupled double quantum dots with interdot spin superexchange $J$. In the Kondo regime with {\it}{degenerate} dot energy levels, a coherent transport occurs at zero temperature, where two entangled (bonding and antibonding) resonances are formed near the Fermi energy. When increasing $J$ or the dot-lead parallel-coupling \QTR{it}{asymmetry} ratio $\Gamma_{2}/\Gamma_{1}$, a swap between two entangled resonances occurs and the line shapes of the linear conductance are interchanged. The zero-bias differential conductance shows a peak at the critical values. Such a peculiar effect with the virtue of many-body coherence may be useful in future quantum computing., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

By using pseudopotential method with local spin density functional approximation, the electronic band structures of Na$_{x}$CoO$_{2}$ are calculated for $x=0.25$, 0.5, 0.75, and $x=1$ in the presence of the structure relaxations. As increasing Na content, the hybridization between cobalt and oxygen orbitals is decreased, and a phase transition is predicted from a wide-band ferromagnetic to a narrow band paramagnetic metals. The itinerant ferromagnetism is strongly suppressed by the local distortions of the oxygens around the cobalts. Moreover, straining the CoO$_{2}$ layers corresponding to the hydrated superconductor Na$_{0.35}$CoO$_{2}\cdot $1.3H$%_{2}$O strongly enhances both the hybridization and ferromagnetism., Comment: Revtex 4, 3 pages, 5 figures; the title has been changed to be specific

The O(3) symmetric Anderson model is an example of a system which has a stable low energy marginal Fermi liquid fixed point for a certain choice of parameters. It is also exactly equivalent, in the large U limit, to a localized model which describes the spin degrees of freedom of the linear dispersion two channel Kondo model. We first use an argument based on conformal field theory to establish this precise equivalence with the two channel model. We then use the numerical renormalization group (NRG) approach to calculate both one-electron and two-electron response functions for a range of values of the interaction strength U. We compare the behaviours about the marginal Fermi liquid and Fermi liquid fixed points and interpret the results in terms of a renormalized Majorana fermion picture of the elementary excitations. In the marginal Fermi liquid case the spectral densities of all the Majorana fermion modes display a |omega| dependence on the lowest energy scale, and in addition the zero Majorana mode has a delta function contribution. The weight of this delta function is studied as a function of the interaction U and is found to decrease exponentially with U for large U. Using the equivalence with the two channel Kondo model in the large U limit, we deduce the dynamical spin susceptibility of the two channel Kondo model over the full frequency range. We use renormalized perturbation theory to interpret the results and to calculate the coefficient of the ln omega divergence found in the low frequency behaviour of the T=0 dynamic susceptibility., Comment: 26 pages, 18 figures, to be published in Eur. We show that a Majorana fermion description of the two channel Kondo model can emerge quite naturally as a representation of the algebra associated with the spin currents in the two channels. Using this representation we derive an exact equivalent Hamiltonian for the two channel model expressed entirely in terms of Majorana fermions. The part of the Hamiltonian that is coupled to the impurity spin corresponds to the vector part of the $\sigma$-$\tau$ model (compactified two channel model). Consequently all the thermodynamic properties associated with the impurity spin can be calculated from the $\sigma$-$\tau$ model alone. The equivalent model can be used to confirm the interpretation of the many-body excitation spectrum of the low energy fixed point of the two-channel model as due to free Majorana fermions with appropriate boundary conditions., Comment: 4 pages, revtex, no figures

We study the single channel (compactified) models, the sigma-tau model and the O(3) symmetric Anderson model, which were introduced by Coleman et al., and Coleman and Schofield, as a simplified way to understand the low energy behaviour of the isotropic and anisotropic two channel Kondo systems. These models display both Fermi liquid and marginal Fermi liquid behaviour and an understanding of the nature of their low energy fixed points may give some general insights into the low energy behaviour of other strongly correlated systems. We calculate the excitation spectrum at the non-Fermi liquid fixed point of the sigma-tau model using conformal field theory, and show that the results are in agreement with those obtained in recent numerical renormalization group (NRG) calculations. For the O(3) Anderson model we find further logarithmic corrections in the weak coupling perturbation expansion to those obtained in earlier calculations, such that the renormalized interaction term now becomes marginally stable rather than marginally unstable. We derive a Ward identity and a renormalized form of the perturbation theory that encompasses both the weak and strong coupling regimes and show that the chi/gamma ratio is 8/3 (chi is the total susceptibility, spin plus isospin), independent of the interaction U and in agreement with the NRG calculations., Comment: 23 pages, LaTeX, 11 figures includes as eps-files, submitted to Phys. Using the fermion-spin transformation to implement spin-charge separation of constrained electrons, a model of two $t-J$ chains with interchain single-electron hopping is studied by abelian bosonization. After spin-charge decoupling the charge dynamics can be trivially solved, while the spin dynamics is determined by a strong-coupling fixed point where the correlation functions can be calculated explicitly. This is a generalization of the Luther-Emery line for two-coupled $t-J$ chains.
