Named entity recognition of wheat diseases and pests is a key step to building a knowledge graph. Aiming at the problems of lack of training data, complex entity structure, diverse entity types and uneven entity distribution in wheat diseases and pests field, under the promise of fully mining the implicit knowledge, two data augmentation methods are used to expand sentence semantic information, and to construct the corpus WpdCNER (wheat pests and diseases Chinese named entity recognition) and the field lexicon WpdDict (wheat pests and diseases dictionary). And 16 categories of entities are defined with the field experts’ guidance. Meanwhile, Chinese named entity recognition model based on rules amendment WPD-RA (wheat pests and disease-rules amendment model) is proposed. This model is carried out entity recognition based on ALBERT+BiLSTM+CRF (a lite bi-directional encoder representation from transformer + bi-directional long short-term memory + conditional random field), and specific rules are defined to amend entity boundaries after recognition. The WPD-RA model achieves the best results with 94.72% precision, 95.23% recall, and 94.97% F1. Its precision is increased by 1.71 percentage points, recall is increased by 0.34 percentage points, and F1 is increased by 1.03 percentage points, compared with the model without rules. Experimental results show that the model can effectively recognize named entities in wheat diseases and pests field, and its performance is better than other models. The proposed model provides a reference idea for named entity recognition task in other fields such as food safety and biology.

Chinese named entity recognition of wheat diseases and pests is an initial and key step in constructing knowledge graphs. In the field of wheat diseases and pests, there are problems, such as lack of training data, nested entities, fuzzy entity boundaries, diverse entity categories, and uneven entity distribution. To solve the above problems, two data augmentation methods were proposed to expand sentence semantic information on the premise of fully mining hidden knowledge. Then, a wheat diseases and pests dataset (WdpDs) for Chinese named entity recognition was constructed containing 21 types of entities and its domain dictionary (WdpDict), using a combination of manual and dictionary-based approaches, to better support the entity recognition task. Furthermore, an automated Wdp Chinese named entity recognition model (AWdpCNER) was proposed. This model was based on ALBERT-BiLSTM-CRF for entity recognition, and defined specific rules to calibrate entity boundaries after recognition. The model fusing ALBERT-BiLSTM-CRF and rules amendment achieved the best recognition results, with a precision of 94.76%, a recall of 95.64%, and an F1-score of 95.29%. Compared with the recognition results without rules amendment, the precision, recall, and F1-score was increased by 0.88 percentage points, 0.44 percentage points, and 0.75 percentage points, respectively. The experimental results showed that the proposed model could effectively identify Chinese named entities in the field of wheat diseases and pests, and this model achieved state-of-the-art recognition performance, outperforming several existing models, which provides a reference for other fields of named entities recognition such as food safety and biology. Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most common cancer types, with a high annual incidence. Although chemotherapy contributes to suppressing OSCC tumorigenesis, the available treatments result in poor prognosis because of local recurrence and regional lymph node metastasis. Thus, it is necessary to discover novel and safe drugs with greater effectiveness and fewer side effects. Fucoidan is a component of the cell wall of brown seaweed that has been shown to produce a wide range of biological activities. The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of fucoidan in treating OSCC. In in vitro studies, we found that fucoidan inhibited OSCC growth and suppressed migration and invasion of OSCC cells. In addition, the potential interaction between fucoidan and filamin A (FLNA)–derived circular RNA (circFLNA) was predicted using bioinformatics databases and then confirmed in OSCC samples and cell lines. Indeed, fucoidan increased the expression of circFLNA in OSCC cell lines. Furthermore, both fucoidan and circFLNA could mediate the expression of key proteins related to cell growth, apoptosis, migration, and invasion. In conclusion, our research demonstrated that fucoidan might be considered as a potential natural drug in the treatment of OSCC patients by targeting circFLNA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, an improved indirect cell coculture system was constructed by using a polyelectrolyte complex membrane generated by alginate (A) and chitosan (C). Methodologies of characterizing thickness and permeability of flat AC membrane were first established due to the importance of these two parameters in determining intercellular distance and degree of contact between cocultured cells. Compared to reaction time, both alginate concentration and molecular weight (Mw) of chitosan play more dominant roles in determining the membrane thickness and diffusion coefficients. Moreover, cells in the alginate gel and on the AC membrane could maintain high cell viability. Thus, an improved indirect cell coculture system constructed by flat AC membrane was fabricated and characterized, which provides a robust tool to study the effect of intercellular distance and degree of contact between cocultured cells on cell-cell interactions. Marine polysaccharide-based hydrogels have drawn much attention for diversified biomedical applications owing to their excellent (bio)physicochemical properties. In the present work, a series of marine polysaccharide-based hydrogels composed of chitosan, alginate, or fucoidan are prepared via a facile chemical cross-linking approach in an alkali/urea aqueous system. The prepared hydrogels possess tunable microporous architecture, swelling, and biodegradable properties by changing the components and proportions of marine polysaccharides. Importantly, the developed hydrogels are mechanically robust and the maximum compressive stress is up to 28.37 ± 4.63 kPa. Furthermore, the composite hydrogels exhibit excellent cytocompatibility, blood compatibility, and histocompatibility. When implanted subcutaneously in rats, the hydrogels containing fucoidan inhibit the inflammatory response of surrounding tissue. Objective: To analyze standards of alginate-based medical devices at home and abroad, and to emphasize key issues of quality control that should be concerned about., Methods: Based on investigation of alginate application in medical devices and alginate-related medical standards, alginate-related technical indicators and quality control points were comprehensively analyzed., Results: With the rapid development of alginate-based medical materials and medical devices, the relevant standards at home and abroad have been elaborated on the basic technical indicators and detection methods. In addition to Chinese Pharmacopoeia, China has issued one alginate standard for tissue engineering and three alginate related product standards., Conclusion: Considering the special physical and chemical properties of alginate, researchers also need to focus on the sterilization method, expiry date, molecular weight, and ratio of α-L-guluronic acid to β-D-mannuronic acid of alginate, and impurity content.
