Abstract

pH, NaCl and temperature are important process parameters for the manufacturing of soybean protein isolate (SPI). pH and NaCl affect protein aggregation by modifying the surface charge and electrostatic repulsion, whereas temperature affects protein aggregation by changing the surface hydrophobicity and/or disulfide bonding, which in turn changes the particle size and compactness and then the rheology and downstream application characteristics of SPI. This paper reviews the effects and possible mechanisms of pH, NaCl, and temperature on the denaturation, aggregation, and rheological properties of SPI and its components glycinin and β-conglycinin with respect to interaction, thermal stability, degree of aggregation, and gelling properties. The relationship between the degree of protein aggregation, gel strand thickness, gel strand curvature and gel network continuity and gel strength is discussed, and the differences among the effects of pH, NaCl and temperature on protein aggregation are summarized for the purpose of providing an assistance in regulating the degree of SPI aggregation by preparation parameters.

16. Structured Cerium–Manganese Catalysts Supported on Nickel Foam for Toluene Oxidation by Electric Internal Heating.

Abstract

Structured catalysts are widely used in catalytic oxidation of gaseous pollutants, hot catalysis is usually needed to assist the reaction in the catalytic process. Herein, a Ce‐modified manganese oxide octahedral molecular sieves (Ce‐OMS‐2) structured catalyst supported on foam nickel was prepared through impregnation process. A systematically quantitative testing on the toluene catalytic oxidation effectiveness of this structured catalyst was conducted through catalyst evaluation device, combining a series of characterization methods, such as XRD and SEM, the structure‐activity relationship was established. Assisted with electric internal heating and ozone oxidation environments, this structured catalyst exhibits excellent catalytic oxidation performance for oxidative decomposition of toluene even under high humidity conditions. The results showed that the ozone‐coupled structured nickel foam catalyst increased the decomposition efficiency of toluene from 25 % (without catalyst and heating) to 55 % (with catalyst and without heating) and the electric internal heating can significantly improve the reactivity and moisture resistance of the structured nickel‐foam catalyst, at 90 % RH and 40000 h−1, 50000 ppb O3 and 40 mg/m3 toluene was maintained 100 % catalytic efficiency. The high‐efficiency non‐precious metal‐based electrothermal catalyst prepared herein is expected to have certain enlightenment for the purification of VOCs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

31. Competing Si2CH4–H2and SiCH2–SiH4Channels in the Bimolecular Reaction of Ground-State Atomic Carbon (C(3Pj)) with Disilane (Si2H6, X1A1g) under Single Collision Conditions

Abstract

The bimolecular gas-phase reaction of ground-state atomic carbon (C(3Pj)) with disilane (Si2H6, X1A1g) was explored under single-collision conditions in a crossed molecular beam machine at a collision energy of 36.6 ± 4.5 kJ mol–1. Two channels were observed: a molecular hydrogen elimination plus Si2CH4(reaction 1) pathway and a silane loss channel along with the formation of SiCH2(reaction 2), with branching ratios of 20 ± 3 and 80 ± 4%, respectively. Both channels involved indirect scattering dynamics via long-lived Si2CH6reaction intermediate(s); the latter eject molecular hydrogen and silane in “molecular” elimination channels within the rotational plane of the fragmenting intermediate nearly perpendicularly to the total angular momentum vector. These molecular elimination channels are associated with tight exit transition states as reflected in a significant electron rearrangement as visible from the chemical bonding in the light reaction products molecular hydrogen and silane. Once these hydrogenated silicon-carbide clusters are formed within the inner envelope of carbon stars such as of IRC + 10216, the stellar wind can drive both Si2CH4and SiCH2to the outside sections of the envelope, where they can be photolyzed. This is of particular importance to unravel potential formation pathways to disilicon monocarbide (Si2C) observed recently in the circumstellar shell of IRC + 10216.

Abstract

Silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cells have attracted much attention in the international photovoltaic market due to their high efficiencies and low costs. The quality of amorphous silicon/crystalline silicon (a-Si:H/c-Si) interfaces of SHJ solar cells has a key influence on the device performance. Therefore, the carrier recombination rate of a-Si:H/c-Si interface needs to be effectively controlled. In addition, as the important component of SHJ solar cells, the p-type emitter must meet the requirements for high conductivity, high light transmittance, and energy band matching with c-Si. The research contents and the relevant achievements of this paper include the following aspects. Firstly, in order to reduce the surface defects and realize the energy band alignment of a-Si:H/c-Si interface, the effect of passivation layer on passivation effect is studied. An ultra-thin buffer layer deposited by a low power and a high hydrogen dilution ratio is inserted between the conventional passivation layer and c-Si to improve the passivation effect and broaden the process window of passivation layer. The effects of the buffer layer thickness and hydrogen dilution ratio on passivation quality are further studied, and the best experimental conditions of buffer layer are obtained. The experimental results show that the sample with double-layered passivation layer is more stable than the conventional passivation layer. The minority carrier lifetime of the sample with single conventional passivation layer is 3.8 ms and the iVOC is 712 mV, while the minority carrier lifetime of the sample with double-layered passivation layer is 4.197 ms and the iVOC is 726 mV.Secondly, for the p-type emitters of silicon heterojunction solar cells, the effects of doping level on the photoelectric properties of p-type hydrogenated nanocrystalline silicon (nc-Si:H) thin films are studied. On this basis, the p++-nc-Si:H/p-nc-Si:H double-layer emitter with wide band gap and high conductivity is designed and fabricated. By analyzing the optical and electrical properties of different emitters, it is found that p-nc-Si:H has good electrical and optical properties. Owing to the high doping efficiency of nc-Si, a small amount of doping can obtain high conductivity. Lightly doped p-nc-Si:H provides a better contact with the passivation layer, while heavily doped p++-nc-Si:H can not only provide enough built-in electric field, but also improve the contact characteristics of p/ITO, thus enhancing the output characteristics of the cell. At the same time, the deposition of p-nc-Si:H layer with high hydrogen dilution ratio can also implement the hydrogen plasma treatment on the passivation layer, the reduction of the dangling bonds on the surface of the c-Si, the enhancement of the chemical passivation effect, and thus improving the open circuit voltage of the cell. Finally, a silicon heterojunction solar cell with an efficiency of 20.96% is obtained based on the commercial czochralski silicon wafer, with an open circuit voltage of 710 mV, a short circuit current density of 39.88 mA/cm2 and filling factor of 74.02%.

Abstract

Strontium titanite (SrTiO3), which is an experimentally-friendly thermoelectric material, could be a promising candidate for thermoelectric power generation applications. The theorectical study indicates the co-doping of La and Nb could enhance the thermoelectric performance, however, the thermoelectric figure of merits (ZTs) of SrTiO3are still low because the co-doping process at nano-scale is experimentally difficult to control. Here we report a high performance SrTiO3with La-Nb co-doping, which are prepared by a combination of hydrothermal method and high-efficiency sintering. Nano-scale co-doping is successfully modulated by hydrothermal method, and nano-inclusions precipitate during sintering process, to form complex microstructures. In this case, the electrical and thermal transport properties are optimized simultaneously by doping concentration and dopants type, resulting in a record-high ZT>0.6 at 1000−1100K in the 10mol% La and 10mol% Nb doped SrTiO3bulk materials. The nano-scale modulation doping and microstructure controlling approach validated in the present study should be also applicable for other thermoelectric materials.
