Highlights • Dissecting basilar artery aneurysm (DBAA) is relatively rare. • We report the first case of a DBAA manifesting as sudden sensorineural hearing loss. • This case report adds to the symptom spectrum of DBAA., Dissecting aneurysms of the basilar artery are rare and severe entities with high hemorrhage and mortality rates. Common clinical symptoms of this condition include cerebral ischemia, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and neurological deficits induced by space-occupying effects. Vertigo, headache, and cranial nerve paralysis are also frequent symptoms. We report a case of dissecting basilar artery aneurysm manifesting as sudden sensorineural hearing loss. A 53-year-old man presented with vertigo, left-sided tinnitus, and sudden sensorineural hearing loss for 1 hour. A physical examination showed left-sided hearing loss and bilateral horizontal nystagmus, and a radiological examination showed a dissecting aneurysm originating from the basilar artery. A diagnosis of a dissecting aneurysm of the basilar artery with sudden sensorineural hearing loss was made. The aneurysm was treated using stent-assisted coil embolization. Postoperatively, the vertigo and tinnitus, as well as the left hearing loss, greatly improved. Follow-up digital subtraction angiography 10 months after the operation showed complete disappearance of the dissecting aneurysm of the basilar artery. In patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss, clinicians should be aware of the potential of a dissecting basilar artery aneurysm. An interdisciplinary approach is important in diagnosis and treatment of this rare condition.

The microstructure and electrical properties of CeO2-doped ZnO-Bi2O3-based varistors were investigated for different amounts of the dopant. The phase composition of CeO2-doped samples was similar to the undoped samples. Ce mainly segregated at the grain boundaries within the EDS detection limit. The average grain size decreased from 7.3 to 6.7 μm and the breakdown voltage increased from 438 to 501 V/mm when the content of CeO2 ranged from 0 to 0.2 mol%. The nonlinear coefficient increased from 38 to 51 when the content of CeO2 increased from 0 to 0.1 mol%., but the further doping caused it to decrease up to 44 at 0.2mol%. The leakage current decreased from 1 to 0.4 μA/cm2 when the content of CeO2 ranged from 0 to 0.1 mol%. Then it increased to 0.7 μA/cm2 at 0.2 mol%. The density of interface states, the barrier height and the donor concentration increased when the content of CeO2 ranged from 0 to 0.1 mol%, but decreased at 0.2 mol%. Hence, when the content ranges from 0 to 0.1 mol%, CeO2 acts as a donor and can improve the electrical properties.

The internal force and deformation of the adjacent bridge pile foundation is influenced by newly Seawall with inner epeirogenic through blowpipe, which may endanger the normal operation of the bridge. Using Plaxis3D software in this paper, the subsoil is used by the Hardening Soil model, and analysis the mechanism of the influence of bridge pile foundation by the newly Seawall with the inner epeirogenic through blowpipe when the distance between Seawall and bridge is changed from 200m to 250m, 300m, 350m and so on, which provides reasonable safety distance between the Seawall and bridge. The analysis results show that the vertical displacement and internal force of bridge pile foundation is less affected by the newly Seawall with the inner epeirogenic through blowpipe, which will not affect the bearing capacity of the bridge pile foundation. However, the horizontal displacement of pile foundation of the bridge is greater influenced by newly Seawall with the inner epeirogenic through blowpipe, which will affect the normal operation of the bridge. As long as reasonable rate is controlled by epeirogenic through blowpipe, the max horizontal displacement of pile foundation can meet the design requirements when the distance is 300m between Seawall and bridge.

Many studies have successfully applied near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy to estimate important wood properties. In this paper, the use of NIR (350–2500 nm) spectroscopy to predict the cellulose crystallinity of Poplar (Populus nigra var.) was investigated. The calibration and test models were constructed using partial least squares regression (PLS). The correlations were significant both the calibration and the test samples using six factors, and the correlation coefficients (R2) were 0.9367, 0.9472 respectively. The results suggest that NIR spectroscope may provide a useful tool for rapid and accurate prediction of the cellulose crystallinity of Poplar.

We analyzed statistically the linear correlation of the solvatochromic shifts of the stilbazolium-like dyes in the nonselected solvents with the reaction field function, L(ϵT) — bL(n2), and the solvent polarity parameter, ENT respectively, and observed that there were not perfectly linearity relationships between them, so we introduced ENT into L(ϵT) — bL( n2) to form a new reaction field function, L(ϵT) — bL(n2) + g ENT called as me modified reaction field function, which can be perfectly linearly correlated with the solvatochromic shifts of the stilbazolium-like dyes in the nonselected solvents.

Along with wide application of e-mail nowadays, many spam e-mails flood into people's email inboxes and bring catastrophe to their study and work. This paper presents a novel anti-spam e-mail filter based-LVQ network in terms of spam e-mails which are mainly made up of several kinds commercial or political spam emails at present. Our experiment has proved that the filter based on LVQ is superior to Bayes-based and BP-based approaches in total performances apparently.

The feature of the peer-to-peer system such as user anonymity, open nature makes that some peers are not responsible for their distributing inauthentic information. An effective solution is that set up the trust model in the p2p system. This paper presents a novel global trust model based on confirmation theory. The reputation of peers is calculated by C-F model according the bartering history, and then the peer decides to download the sharing file from which the peer has good reputation. Analyses and simulations show that this trust model can discard the malicious peer from p2p system effectively and improve the rate of successful barter greatly.

In this paper, we describe adPD, an improved parallel downloading approach for Peer-to-Peer environment. adPD assigns each server equal portion of file as large as possible, and ensures client downloading from each server without interrupt. And after faster servers finish their own work, adPD reallocates part of unfinished work of some slower servers to them. This reallocation is proportional to the ratio of server speed. By this means, adPD dynamically adjusts the proportion of a file retrieved from each server during the downloading process to match the bandwidth of each connection, and also reduces the number of block requests as many as possible. Our experiment results show that adPD is an effective parallel download scheme in Peer-to-Peer environment.
