Simple Summary: This retrospective study examines how the tibial plateau angle (TPA) changes over time in dogs following a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO), a common surgery for treating cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) ruptures. The TPLO procedure stabilizes the stifle joint by rotating the tibial plateau to reduce stress on the ligament and improve joint function. While short-term outcomes of this surgery are well-documented, this study focuses on how the TPA evolves over a longer period, up to 12 months after surgery. We studied 60 dogs of various ages and weights, measuring the TPA before surgery, immediately after, and at 8 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months post-surgery. Our findings showed a steady increase in TPA over time, indicating that the tibia continues to remodel long after the initial healing period. No dog showed a decrease in the TPA, with the average TPA increasing from 4.98 degrees post-surgery to 9.02 degrees at 12 months. These results highlight the importance of long-term monitoring and suggest that aiming for a lower TPA immediately after surgery may result in better long-term outcomes for dogs undergoing TPLO. Tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) is a widely accepted method due to its success in stabilizing the stifle joint. This study aims to investigate the changes in the TPA over a 12-month follow-up period in dogs undergoing TPLO. Methods: An analysis of medical records from 60 dogs, aged 2 to 8 years and weighing between 7 and 59 kg, who underwent the TPLO procedure was conducted. TPA measurements were recorded before surgery, immediately after surgery, and during follow-up periods at 8 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months post-operation. Results: Results showed a consistent increase in TPA over time, with the mean TPA rising from 4.98 degrees immediately post-surgery to 9.02 degrees at the 12-month follow-up. No patients exhibited a decrease in TPA during the study period. The mean difference between the final and initial TPA was 4.045 degrees, with patients exhibiting smaller initial TPAs showing less variation over time; Conclusions: This is the first report on long-term TPA changes following TPLO, offering essential insights into tibial remodeling and the potential for optimizing surgical outcomes. Simple Summary: The omentum is a fold of peritoneum, a membrane that lines the abdominal cavity and covers the abdominal organs. It consists of two main parts: the greater omentum and the lesser omentum. The greater and lesser omentum play important roles in the function and structure of the abdominal cavity, including providing support and protection for organs, storing fat, and contributing to immune responses. Over the years, it has been forgotten by modern science and clinicians. The following article presents the current knowledge about using this structure in veterinary surgery. The greater and lesser omentum are derived from embryonic mesogastrium. The expansive greater omentum in dogs covers intestinal coils, while in cats, it is smaller. Comprising distinct portions, the greater omentum is rich in lymphatics and blood vessels. Conversely, the lesser omentum spans the liver, stomach, and duodenum. Studies on canine omentum reveal unique immune cell composition and regenerative potential attributed to adipose tissue-derived stromal cells (ADSCs). These cells hold promise in regenerative medicine, showing enhanced abilities compared with ADSCs from other sources. The omentum is critical in tissue repair and pathology, making it invaluable in veterinary surgery across various medical fields. An intracranial arachnoid cyst (IAC) is a rare developmental disorder that is consistent with cerebrospinal fluid accumulation between the brain and the arachnoid membrane. A quadrigeminal cyst is a specific type of cyst that is identified based on its localization. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to report on this type of pathology in a Brussels Griffon. This case study describes an 11-month-old female Brussels Griffon with symptoms of reluctance to lower the head and eat from a bowl placed on the ground, combined with episodes of vocalization. The patient was subsequently diagnosed with a quadrigeminal cyst during a low-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam, and she tested positive for toxoplasmosis in the blood test. Arachnoid cysts are often described as incidental findings, but the characteristics of neurological symptoms in the presented patient suggest that the cyst was clinically significant. The currently known options of pharmacological and surgical treatment give some hope for symptomatic patients, although their definitive success rate is not yet fully known. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives The aim of this study was to evaluate variations in lateral ventricles in the examined feline population with the use of quantitative analysis methods to determine whether sex or body weight influenced the size of the ventricles, and to identify any significant differences in the results of low- and high-field MRI. Methods Twenty healthy European Shorthair cats, aged 1–3 years, with body weights ranging from 2.85–4.35 kg, were studied. MRI of brain structures was performed in a low- and a high-field MRI system. The height of the brain and lateral ventricles at the level of the interthalamic adhesion, and volume of the lateral ventricles were determined in T2-weighted images in the transverse plane. The degree of symmetry of lateral ventricles was analysed based on the ratio of right to left ventricular volume. The measured parameters were processed statistically to determine whether sex and body weight were significantly correlated with variations in ventricular anatomy. The results of low- and high-field MRI were analysed to evaluate for any significant differences. Results The average brain height was determined to be 27.79 mm, and the average height of the left and right ventricles were 2.98 mm and 2.89 mm, respectively. The average ventricle/brain height ratio was 10.61%. The average volume of the left ventricle was 134.12 mm3 and the right ventricle was 130.49 mm3. Moderately enlarged ventricles were observed in two cats. Moderate ventricular asymmetry was described in four cats. Sex and body weight had no significant effect on the evaluated parameters. The differences in the results of low- and high-field MRI were not statistically significant. Conclusions and relevance This study has determined reference intervals for ventricular volume in a population of European Shorthair cats without brain disease, which will facilitate the interpretation of MRI images and the characterisation of brain abnormalities in cats with neurological disease. Further research involving larger animal populations, including other breeds, is required to compare the measured parameters between breeds and to determine reference values for other breeds. The article describes treatment of a disc protrusion in a dog with percutaneous laser disc decompression (PLDD). The surgical procedure used a photofiber device inserted into the intervertebral space under C-arm control. Moreover, PLDD effectiveness in Hansen type II disc herniation in a dog was evaluated.

The cranial cruciatum ligament rupture is a common orthopedic disease in dogs. Authors of article present the modified version of original Triple Tibial Osteotomy technique. Both techniques were assessed in 8 dogs treated surgically using the original TTO technique, and in 8 dogs were operated by modified TTO method. As modification authors added a Kirschner wire across the osteotomy line of the proximal tibial to prevent tibial tuberosity displacement which is complication during the original TTO procedure. Clinical results shown that stifle restoration time was similar in both groups, but in 3 dogs operated in original version this complications were noted. No complications were observed in patients treated by modified procedure with k-wire during one year after surgery. Triple tibial osteotomy as an alternative management to another surgical techniques is widely recommended, however author's modified original version to prevent tibial tuberosty detachment. Interlocking nails (ILN) are effective tools for the fixation of long bone fractures, including humeral, femoral and tibial fractures. An interlocking nails are a steel rods which are placed in medullary canal of fractured bone. They have transverse openings which are use to put inside a transcortical screws. Those screws block the nail relative to the main bone fragments. Interlocking nails counteract all forces at the fractured site, thus they are an alternative to bone plates. Simultaneously, the intramedullary nail is placed in a natural position relative to the bone's biomechanical axis and neutralizing bending forces across bone fragments. Unlike bone plates that are eccentrically positioned, the nail has an intramedullary position which makes it much more resistant to compressive, torsional and bending force. This technique requires a relatively low surgical approach to compare with plate osteosynthesis. Most importantly, interlocking nails support biological osteosynthesis and fracture management with minimal surgical intervention. The first application in veterinary medicine of the interlocking nail was at the late 1980s. Since this moment, the technique still evolves providing the next generations of interlocking nails. At these days we have several generations of it. This paper discusses the use of interlocking nails in fracture stabilization in veterinary practice and overviews the development of nail implants and their applications.
