Patients with breast cancer, localized fibroadenomatosis and healthy females were examined for the initial state of cell immunity: the reaction of delayed hypersensitivity to DNCB, the absolute and relative amount of rosette forming cells (T-lymphocytes) and the stimulation of lymphocytes under exposure to PHA. A considerable suppression of cell immunity was shown both in breast cancer patients and in patients with benign tumors. The indices of skin allergic test and reaction of spontaneous rosette formation were nearly identical in both groups of the patients under examination. In case of the reaction of lymphocytes blasttransformation in breast cancer patients the stimulation was found to be much lower than in patients with local fibroadenomatosis.

Correlations between immunologic indexes in patients suffering dyshormonal hyperplasia (33), carcinoma of the breast (48) and healthy females (25) were studied. Rosette-formation test and its modifications were used to evaluate immunologic vigor. No significant differences were found between the quantitative and structural characteristics of immunologic vigor. General relationship between correlations involved in dyshormonal hyperplasia and cancer of the breast were identified. Increased frequency of correlations between paired characteristics was reliably established in patients as compared with healthy subjects; also multiple correlations between the indexes of different lymphoid subpopulations were increased.

Additional non-specific therapy including levamisole and other drugs was tested in 20 patients with esophageal cancer. Complex (immuno- and chemoradiation) treatment brought immune response, lipid metabolism and cortisol level to normal, which in most cases, was in correlation with the clinical effect of therapy.

Thirty-four breast carcinomas revealed unequal growth rates their doubling time ranging 12-150 days. Steroid hormone levels and immunologic vigor were found to significantly differ in patients with different growth rates. Higher rates were associated with more pronounced systemic disorders.
