In the last 19 years (2003-2021), research on genre-based approaches (GBAs) to writing pedagogy has been accumulating in the fields of English as a second language (ESL) and English as a foreign language (EFL). This review mapped existing literature to identify research trends and provide a research agenda for future GBAs. This study employed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines and identified 52 published articles and 2 unpublished doctoral theses via a structured keyword search on Web of Science, Scopus, ERIC, Google Scholar, and ProQuest in the fields of teaching English to speakers of other languages, language learning, and education. The results show that GBA is now widely used in teaching English academic writing to ESL/EFL tertiary/graduate students. The main research findings include: (1) the top five countries in the number of paper publications are China (i.e., five), the United States (i.e., five), Japan (e.g., 4), Thailand (e.g., four), and Sweden (e.g., four); (2) the top four authors in the number of paper publications are Hyland (i.e., two), Lu (i.e., two), Negretti (i.e., two), and Pineh (i.e., two); and (3) the top three most strengthen keywords are writing pedagogy, genre-based approach, and English for academic purpose. This study also discusses the theoretical and practical implications.

Artificial intelligence and positive psychology play crucial roles in education, yet there is limited research on how these psychological factors influence learners' use of AI, particularly in language education. Grounded in self-determination theory, this study investigates the factors influencing Chinese English learners' intention to use AI for language learning. Utilizing structural equation modeling, this research examines the mediating roles of grit, flow, and resilience in the relationship between basic psychological needs and the intention to use AI. Data were analyzed using AMOS 26 and SPSS 26. The findings reveal that flow, grit, and resilience mediate the relationship between basic psychological needs and the intention to adopt AI tools for language learning. This study provides valuable insights into how educational environments can be designed to fulfill psychological needs, thereby fostering greater engagement and acceptance of AI in language education. A limited number of studies focus on the effect of core training on basketball players' athletic performance and skills. This systematic reviewaimed to comprehensively and critically review the available studies in the literature that investigate the impact of core training on basketball players' physical and skill performance, and then offer valuable recommendations for both coaches and researchers. Thedata collection, selection, and analysis adhered to the PRISMA protocol. English databases, including Ebscohost, Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar,were searched until September 2022. A total of eight articles were included, with four studies comparing the effects of core training versus traditional strength training or usual basketball training. All studies investigated the impact of core training on athletic performance. The findings revealed that core training can help players improve their overall athletic and skill performance, particularly in the areas of strength, sprinting,jumping, balance, agility, shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, and stepping. In addition, core training, particularly on unstable surfaces,as well as combining static and dynamic core training,improvebasketball players' athletic and skill performance. Despite the relativelylittle evidence demonstrating the effect of core training on endurance, flexibility, and defensive skills, this review demonstrates that it should be incorporated into basketball training sessions. Podocyte injury plays a critical role in diabetic kidney disease (DKD). Our previous work demonstrated a protective role of tyrosine-protein kinase receptor TYRO3 in glomerular disease; However, the downstream signaling of TYRO3 remains unclear. Our data showed that genetic ablation of tyro3 in zebrafish recapitulated a nephrotic syndrome phenotype. TYRO3 expression was suppressed by high glucose and TGF-β, which may contribute to the decreased TYRO3 expression in progressive DKD. Moreover, knockdown of TYRO3 expression with siRNA induced podocytes apoptosis and cytoskeleton rearrangement. Further study revealed that TYRO3 conferred antiapoptotic effects through the activation of JNK/c-jun-P53 in podocytes. Our results revealed a novel signaling module of TYRO3 in podocyte homeostasis, which provides a new molecular insight of TYRO3 effect in podocyte protection. Aims: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is the leading cause of end-stage kidney disease, and podocyte injury is one of the major contributors to DKD. As a crucial transcriptional factor that regulates cellular response to oxidative stress, nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is an attractive therapeutic target for DKD. In this study, we evaluated the therapeutic potential of DDO-1039, a novel small-molecule Nrf2 activator developed with protein-protein interaction strategy, on podocyte injury in DKD. Results: DDO-1039 treatment significantly increased Nrf2 protein level and Nrf2 nuclear translocation, thereby upregulating Nrf2 target genes [heme oxygenase 1, NAD(P)H quinone dehydrogenase 1, glutamate-cysteine ligase modifier, and tyrosine-protein kinase receptor] both in vitro and in vivo . DDO-1039 attenuated glomerular sclerosis and podocyte injury in the high-fat diet/streptozotocin-induced (HFD/STZ) diabetic mice and db/db diabetic mice. It also significantly improved hyperglycemia in both diabetic mice and mitigated proteinuria in HFD/STZ mice. Meanwhile, DDO-1039 attenuated oxidative stress and inflammation as well as apoptosis in vivo and in podocytes stimulated with palmitic acid and high glucose. Interestingly, we identified podocyte protective factor Tyro3 as a novel Nrf2-regulated gene. In addition, podocyte ferroptosis is reduced via activation of glutathione peroxidase 4 by the novel Nrf2 activator. Innovation and conclusion: DDO-1039 activates the Nrf2-based cytoprotective system to mitigate podocyte injury in the context of diabetes, suggesting the potential of DDO-1039 in the treatment of DKD.
