7. Elastic Janus Microarray Film Strain Sensors with Heterogeneous Modulus and Conductivity for Healthcare and Braille Identification.

Abstract

Most stretchable film strain sensors generally present nonlinear electrical responses to applied strain, leading to an inaccurate acquisition of sophisticated signals, difficult signal processing, and zero‐calibration, which hampers practical applications severely. Here, a Janus hetero‐structured microarray film sensor is developed by in‐situ growth of silver nanoparticles on the surface of micro‐patterned elastomer films fabricated via low‐temperature imprinting followed by scraping‐induced particle trapping. Heterogeneous property designs in both modulus and electrical conductivity via introducing polymer microarrays enable modulating the electron transport manner in the conductive layer of elastic Janus films upon stretching, allowing to tune signal linearity effectively. Therefore, such a hetero‐structured film sensor shows good signal linearity (fluctuation of gauge factor [GF] below ±0.02) and relatively high sensitivity (GF > 10) within 55% strain, a detection limit of 0.2% strain, and a response/recovery time of 16.3/46.9 ms, respectively. Correspondingly, it enables monitoring human respiration and body motion with higher resolution compared with the nonlinear one, meanwhile, it is capable of detecting tiny pressure to discriminate braille alphabets via touch identification. Overall, it unveils a simple strategy to fabricate film strain sensors for high‐resolution healthcare and body motion monitoring, as well as electronic skins toward tactile sensing and touch identification. 16. Liquid Electrolyte-Assisted Electrospinning for Boosting Piezoelectricity of Poly (vinylidene Fluoride) Fiber Mats

Abstract

Piezoelectric polymer films are forthcoming choices for self-powered portable flexible electronics due to instant mechanoelectrical transduction, ease of fabrication, and assembly for device integration. However, the low piezoelectricity of polymers in comparison with piezoelectric ceramics precludes their practical applications significantly. Here, we report an interesting method to fabricate piezoelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) fiber mats with excellent piezoelectricity by collecting electrospun fibers using low-temperature electrolytes. Specifically, fiber collection assisted by liquid electrolytes enables the formation of piezoelectric PVDF crystals with zigzag conformation induced by strong solvent–electrolyte and dipole–ion interactions, as well as the immobilization of aligned dipoles at low temperature. Consequently, compared with conventional PVDF fibers collected by aluminum foils, those fiber mats electrospun using liquid electrolytes can generate an open-circuit voltage of 2.3 V under a pressure of 20 N at 1 Hz for an effective area of 1 cm2, showing a nearly eight-times improvement. In addition, the as-prepared piezoelectric fiber mats enable the conversion of mechanical energy into electricity with an instantaneous output power density of ∼16.2 mW/m2, which allows for self-powered sensing or energy harvesting. Such an electrospinning technology enables simple fabrication of high-performance piezoelectric polymer fiber mats with diverse surface microstructure for self-powered flexible electronics.

35. Smart Ti3C2TxMXene Fabric with Fast Humidity Response and Joule Heating for Healthcare and Medical Therapy Applications

Abstract

An increasing utilization of flexible healthcare electronics and biomedicine-related therapeutic materials urges the development of multifunctional wearable/flexible smart fabrics for personal therapy and health management. However, it is currently a challenge to fabricate multifunctional and on-body healthcare electronic devices with reliable mechanical flexibility, excellent breathability, and self-controllable joule heating effects. Here, we fabricate a multifunctional MXene-based smart fabric by depositing 2D Ti3C2Txnanosheets onto cellulose fiber nonwoven fabric viaspecial MXene–cellulose fiber interactions. Such multifunctional fabrics exhibit sensitive and reversible humidity response upon H2O-induced swelling/contraction of channels between the MXene interlayers, enabling wearable respiration monitoring application. Besides, it can also serve as a low-voltage thermotherapy platform due to its fast and stable electro-thermal response. Interestingly, water molecular extraction induces electrical response upon heating, i.e., functioning as a temperature alarm, which allows for real-time temperature monitoring for thermotherapy platform without low-temperature burn risk. Furthermore, metal-like conductivity of MXene renders the fabric an excellent Joule heating effect, which can moderately kill bacteria surrounding the wound in bacteria-infected wound healing therapy. This work introduces a multifunctional smart flexible fabric suitable for next-generation wearable electronic devices for mobile healthcare and personal medical therapy.

Abstract

Solar energy triggered steam generation has emerged as a green and sustainable strategy that can potentially address the long-standing global freshwater scarcity issue. However, given that there is inadequate light illumination early in the morning or late afternoon or cloudy days, it is continuous steam generation in all weather that is a great challenge for the state-of-the-art solar-driven steam generators. Here, we present an all-weather-available steam generation system, which is capable of harvesting solar energy to continuously generate steam based on the alternative photo-thermal and electro-thermal conversion of crosslinked MXene aerogels (CMAs) in the day time and at night. In virtue of the strong light absorption and excellent electrical conductivity of the CMA, the constructed steam generation system can not only convert sunlight into heat for steam generation on sunny days but persistently achieve heat generation by utilization of electricity in low-light or dark circumstances. Furthermore, the ingenious introduction of solar cells-battery components makes full use of the daytime sunlight to further power the steam generation system for heating up the CMA at night, avoiding extra electrical energy input and loss. This work offers new insights into developing continuous steam generation technologies applicable to day–night alternation and complex environments.
