In this study, we experimentally showcase the microfiber evanescent-field photothermal gas detection by exploiting all-fiber MHz-level frequency shift scheme. Based on the acousto-optic interaction effect, the low-frequency shifts of 0.9 MHz and 1.83 MHz can be obtained through the cyclic conversion between the transverse core modes LP01 and LP11 in the few-mode fiber. Our proposed all-fiber frequency shifters show flexible MHz-level up(down) frequency shifts with superior sideband rejection ratio (over 40 dB) and low insertion loss (less than 1 dB). Furthermore, an all-fiber heterodyne interferometric detection system is implemented by leveraging the above low-frequency shifters, in which around 1-μm-diameter microfiber is investigated for photothermal gas detection. A pump-probe configuration is employed to obtain the photothermal effect induced by the gas absorption of the modulated evanescent field. By demodulating the phase of the beat signal output by the interferometer, an equivalent detection limit (1σ) of 32 ppm and a response time of 22 s are achieved for ammonia, as well as 0.24 % instability within 48 pump cycles. Given its compact all-fiber configuration and high sensitivity with fast response, the experimental results can pave the way for widespread applications like heterodyne detection, fiber optical sensors, and interplanetary coherent communications.

Structured optical fields, such as cylindrical vector (CV) and orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes, have attracted considerable attention due to their polarization singularities and helical phase wavefront structure. However, one of the most critical challenges is still the intelligent generation or precise control of these modes. Here, we demonstrate the first simulation and experimental realization of decomposing the CV and OAM modes by reconstructing the multi-view images of projected intensity distribution. Assisted by the deep learning–based stochastic parallel gradient descent (SPGD) algorithm, the modal coefficients and optical field distributions can be retrieved in 1.32 s within an average error of 0.416 % showing high efficiency and accuracy. Especially, the interference pattern and quarter-wave plate are exploited to confirm the phase and distinguish elliptical or circular polarization direction, respectively. The generated donut modes are experimentally decomposed in the CV and OAM modes, where purity of CV modes reaches 99.5 %. Finally, fast switching vortex modes is achieved by electrically driving the polarization controller to deliver diverse CV modes. Our findings may provide a convenient way to characterize and deepen the understanding of CV or OAM modes in view of modal proportions, which is expected of latent applied value on information coding and quantum computation.

Recently high-order modes (HOMs) lasers have been extensively investigated due to their potential applications in mode-division multiplexing. In this paper, we present two schemes of generating HOMs from the mode-locked fiber lasers (MLFLs) in the dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) regime. Watt-level HOM outputs are implemented through intra-cavity mode conversion. 3 W average-power HOMs with an efficiency slope of 25% can be obtained based on an MLFL in the DSR regime, which is achieved by incorporating a long-period fiber grating (LPFG) and a dual-resonant acoustically induced fiber grating (AIFG), respectively. Their different spectrum responses enable flexible mode conversion in the MLFLs. Both fiber mode converters are exploited to show their robust capability of efficient mode manipulation. The MLFL with an LPFG inserted in the cavity can achieve wide-bandwidth intra-cavity optical vortex beams (OVBs) near the dispersion turning around point because of the pulses of the fundamental mode and high-order vortex eigenmodes oscillating in the cavity with the same group velocity to form spatiotemporal mode locking. The MLFL based on a dual-resonant AIFG can perform the function of fast switching (∼0.3 ms) in LP01, LP11a, and LP11b modes with a high modal purity of 96%. These different modes with high-energy pulses can be flexibly switched with programmable radio frequency modulation. Furthermore, a quarter-wave plate and a polarizer are employed at the output of fiber laser to realize the controllability of the mode field, which is possible to generate a controllable mode field of OVBs based on the first-order Poincaré sphere. This control method can be integrated with the MLFLs to extend the flexibility of high-power HOMs generation.

The burgeoning advances of spatial mode conversion in few-mode fibers emerge as the investigative hotspot in novel structured light manipulation, in that, high-order modes possess a novel fundamental signature of various intensity profiles and unique polarization distributions, especially orbital angular momentum modes carrying with phase singularity and spiral wave front. Thus, control of spatial mode generation becomes a crucial technique especially in fiber optics, which has been exploited to high capacity space division multiplexing. The acousto-optic interactions in few-mode fibers provide a potential solution to tackle the bottleneck of traditional spatial mode conversion devices. Acousto-optic mode conversion controlled by microwave signals brings tremendous new opportunities in spatial mode generation with fast mode tuning and dynamic switching capabilities. Besides, dynamic mode switching induced by acousto-optic effects contributes an energy modulation inside a laser cavity through nonlinear effects of multi-mode interaction, competition, which endows the fiber laser with new functions and leads to the exploration of new physical mechanism. In this review, we present the recent advances of controlling mode switch and generation employing acousto-optic interactions in few-mode fibers, which includes acousto-optic mechanisms, optical field manipulating devices and novel applications of spatial mode control especially in high-order mode fiber lasers.

Using an all-fiber mode selective coupler (MSC) at the visible band, here we experimentally demonstrate a generating and wavelength multiplexing scheme for the cylindrical vector (CV) and vortex beams (VBs). The proposed MSCs act as efficient mode converters to produce spectrally insensitive high-order modes (HOMs) at the wavelength ranging from 450 to 980 nm, which have broad operation bandwidth (more than 7 nm), high mode conversion efficiency (94%), and purity (98%), and low insert loss (below 0.5 dB). By adjusting the polarization state and the phase shift of linear polarization (LP)11 mode respectively, the donut-shaped CVs and circular-polarization VBs are achieved. The focused intensity distribution of the donut beam on the cross- and axial-sections is monitored by using a confocal system. The all-fiber solution of producing and multiplexing HOMs opens a new route for stimulated emission depletion microscopy applications.

The second time develop of the ANSYS was realized by using APDL language, and an ovoid sectional multi-scale unit cell model for fiber bundle section with pre-made defects was established. At first the initial modulus, the strength and the ultimate strain of fiber bundle were calculated. Then the unit cell model of C/SiC woven composites was established according to the SEM photographs. By introducing the periodic boundary conditions, the initial anisotropic constants of C/SiC woven composites were predicted. The failure criteria proposed by Linde was utilized to set up the progressive damage mode,and the C/SiC plain weave composites with defects under unidirectional tension was simulated. So,the damage evolution process of the fiber bundle could be interpreted, when the unit cell of C/SiC plain weave composites was under the unidirection load. The numerical results show that the proposed model accurately captures the data from the experiments, which demonstrates the validity of the present analytical model. Furthermore, the numerical model provides an alternate way to design and predict the mechanical properties of plain weave composites.

In this study, different factor analysis models were employed to test the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) in 11 distinct populations (n = 15,266) in different countries. The results strongly suggest that the most appropriate use of the SCS is to measure levels of Self-Compassionate responding (positive items) and Self-Uncompassionate responding (negative items) separately.

The consumption of games has received increasing attention due to their high profits and addiction issues. However, previous studies have focused mainly on players' in-game purchases, neglecting the purchase of game derivative products. This article provides the first exploration of the differences and similarities between in-game purchases and derivative product purchases with a mixed-method approach. A quantitative survey collected data from 9864 game players, and the results suggested that there were differences between in-game purchases and derivative product consumption in terms of consumption amount and number of participants, and that derivative product purchases had a stronger relationship with character attachment and game loyalty. Subsequent interviews were conducted with 22 players. The findings supported the quantitative results and revealed that players exhibited a distinct understanding of each type of purchase in terms of ownership. Overall, these findings contribute to the understanding of game derivative product purchases and explore the factors influencing in-game purchases and derivative product purchases. We strongly argue that the pattern of spending on game derivative products is very different from that of spending on in-game purchases and is, thus, worthy of dedicated research. The dual-mode combustor model of a kerosene-fueled dual-mode scramjet engine was investigated through a series of combustion experiments with different mode on the resistance heating direct-connected test system at Northwestern Polytechnical University. The experiment simulated the actual combustion process under the conditions of an inlet total pressure ranging from 600 to 900 kPa, an inlet total temperature of 810 K, and an inlet Mach number of 2.0. The results show that as the equivalence ratio of kerosene increases, the combustor goes through three modes sequentially: pure scramjet mode, dual-mode scramjet mode, and dual-mode ramjet mode. The peak pressure ratio of the combustor corresponding to the combustion mode transition boundary is 1.95 and 3.5, respectively, and the Mach number at the exit of the isolator is 2.26 and 1.0, respectively. The mode transition boundary remains unchanged regardless of the inlet total pressure. When the position of the peak pressure point is stably located near the upstream cavity, the combustor operates in dual-mode ramjet mode, while when the position of the peak pressure point is stably located near the downstream cavity, the combustor operates in dual-mode scramjet mode. As the position of the measurement point gets closer to the downstream, the relative coefficient of wall pressure change becomes higher in terms of wall pressure measurement. The greatest variation in the relative coefficient of wall pressure occurs at x = 370 mm, indicating the highest sensitivity. It is the most suitable parameter for controlling the fuel flow of the dual-mode scramjet. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
