5. Shear-wave VSP data processing for anisotropy

Abstract

It has now become comparatively common in shear-wave exploration to use the measurements of the polarization direction of the leading shear-wave and the travel-time delay between this and the slow split shear-wave, to give a direct indication of the orientation and strength of anisotropy. It is important to investigate and develop suitable techniques to extract these parameters from seismic data. To investigate the anisotropic properties of shear-wave propagating in anisotropic medium, I first develop a vector convolutional model for a shear-wave propagating through an anisotropic medium in Chapter 2. Based on this unified model, four algebraic processing techniques have been developed to estimate the shear-wave polarisation and time-delay for near-offset VSPs. The techniques include both cumulative and interval techniques for either dual/multi or single sources data. These techniques are algebraic exact solutions, faster than any possible numerical equivalent, and robust to noise. Uncertainties in the ground coupling of shear sources, alignment of the source polarization, the transfer function between the geophone and the formation, and the orientation of the receiver tool in the borehole, may be amongst the principal causes of inaccuracy when estimating shear-wave splitting from multicomponent near-offset VSP data. In Chapter 3, investigations using synthetic seismograms computed for a zero-offset VSP in an anisotropic half-space, address the frequency independent part of this problem to determine how much uncertainty can be tolerated for simple amplitude and orientation variations in the source and geophone components, while still maintaining a shear-wave polarization estimated for the faster split shear-wave accurate to within 5°.

6. Research on Accuracy of Normal Moveout in Reflection Seismic Exploration by Cross Correlation Method

Abstract

In this paper, we took the time-distance curve equation and the Normal Moveout (NMO) principle as breakthrough point. According to the forward seismic simulation model and the cross-correlation principle in signal processing, we have convincingly studied the accuracy of NMO in simulation experiment. Firstly, the time-distance curve equation of single-layer reflection and the characteristics of cross-correlation are simply analysed. Then, we build the seismic forward model by Tesseral software, and accurate results are obtained after the simulation experiment is carried out. Finally, we get the conclusion by analysing and summarizing these results. The conclusion shows that the method effectively demonstrates the feasibility of the cross-correlation method in testing the accuracy of NMO, and provides a new idea for analysing the accuracy of velocity picking, even the accuracy of the underground model during petroleum exploration.

Abstract

Sound pressure extrapolation based on support vector machine (SVM) is proposed in order to reduce the reconstruction error in Fourier-based nearfield acoustic holography (NAH) when the aperture is small compared to the source size. The measured pressure on the aperture is introduced into SVM and then a regression model is obtained to extrapolate the sound pressure outside the aperture. Numerical simulations show that the new method allows a relatively accurate and quick reconstruction in comparison with the results using zero-padding and linear predictive border-padding.

18. Numerical simulation of acoustic agglomeration of fine particles in sintered flue gas of steel production

Abstract

Fine particles in the sintering flue gas of steel production account for the vast majority, which is the primary control object of PM2.5 emission sources. Traditional dust removal methods have low capture efficiency for fine particles below 1 micron. Previous research on acoustic agglomeration has focused on broad-spectrum smoke, and there is a lack of understanding of the agglomeration process of sub-micron narrow-spectrum case. Based on the zoning method, the time evolution data of particle size distribution (PSD) and agglomeration efficiency corresponding to different frequencies, sound pressure levels (SPLs), and particle concentrations under the sub-micron narrow-spectrum condition are calculated in this paper. The data analysis shows that the agglomeration efficiency of the fine particle dominated flue gas increases with the increase in the frequency of action. High sound intensity conditions are conducive to improving the agglomeration efficiency, and high flue gas concentration conditions can significantly reduce the emission reduction time and energy consumption. Compared with broad-spectrum flue gas, due to the small difference in particle size and movement speed, under the same action conditions, fine particles occupy a longer agglomeration time, and the required acoustic intensity is higher, which is not conducive to practical industrial applications. Therefore, after adding a small amount of large-size particles, the acoustic agglomeration of fine particles dominated smoke was studied. Theoretical analysis shows that the presence of a small number of large particles in the flue gas significantly enhances the agglomeration efficiency and reduces the time of action and the acoustic intensity. In-plant tests verified the feasibility of acoustic agglomeration in the real-time treatment of sintered flue gas and the advantage of adding a small amount of large particles. The test sound frequency range is 50 Hz to 2 kHz, the fundamental frequency SPL is 87.3 ~ 161.8dB, and the action time is within 3s. The measured PM2.5 emission reduction efficiency is 16% ~ 92%, and the optimal frequency is about 800Hz.

19. Experimental verification of fine particle emission reduction based on acoustic agglomeration for steel sintering flue gas

Abstract

The sintering flue gas in steel production has the characteristics of large discharge capacity, fine size, high temperature, corrosion and fluctuation of working conditions, and is the primary control object of PM2.5 emission source. Traditional dust removal technologies and equipment are difficult to achieve efficient collection of fine particles. In order to quantitatively study the effect and regularity of high intensity sound waves on fine particles, the online acoustic agglomeration test system was built by using high-power pneumatic source and wave tube with abrupt section. The high intensity standing wave field of 140 to 150 dB was generated in the wide frequency range between 50 Hz and 2 kHz by the acoustic resonance synthesis, and interference from compressed airflow was avoided by the acoustic-flow separation module. Variation of the sintered flue gas PSD was obtained under different sound intensities and frequencies. Data analysis shows that the high concentration condition can greatly reduce the operation time and energy consumption. Under the action of high intensity acoustic waves with a fundamental sound pressure level of 87.3-161.8dB and duration of 3s, the measured PM2.5 removal efficiency is 16%-92%, and the optimal frequency is near 800Hz. This paper verifies the feasibility of acoustic agglomeration (AA) in the treatment of sintering flue gas, and provides a theoretical reference and technical basis for the development of PM2.5 real-time emission control device for steel production.
