When providing healthcare services, healthcare students face a variety of ethical issues and conflicts daily. Such characteristics as ethical sensitivity and emotional intelligence are influential in determining an individual's performance and can prove useful in coping with challenges in life. Given the significance of these two variables in the career prospects and educational and professional lives of students, the present cross-sectional study with 486 students majoring in nursing, operating room, and anesthesia, aims to investigate the relationship between ethical sensitivity and emotional intelligence. Data were collected using demographics, ethical sensitivity, and emotional intelligence. The students' ethical sensitivity level was high, while their emotional intelligence was average. Regression analysis revealed that students' ethical sensitivity was related to their emotional intelligence and gender. There is also a significant correlation between ethical sensitivity and emotional intelligence on one hand and gender on the other: female students possess higher levels of ethical sensitivity, while male students have greater emotional intelligence. Students in nursing schools may benefit from greater insight into the concepts of ethical sensitivity and emotional intelligence and ways to enhance them.

Background: Familiarity with and management of drug side effects is among nurses' main educational needs with respect to pharmacological care in psychiatry departments. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effects of psychotropic drug education through mobile learning and group discussion on nursing students' learning, satisfaction, and attitude. Methods: This educational intervention was done at EbneSina Psychiatric Hospital, affiliated with Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, in 2018. A total of 28 students were randomly divided into 2 groups, each containing 16 and 12 subjects. The first group underwent the educational intervention through mobile learning. The second group received the educational intervention through group discussion. The students' learning and satisfaction were assessed and compared before and 2 weeks after the intervention. Attitudes were also assessed within the mobile learning group. Data were analyzed using paired and independent sample t-tests. Results: The results revealed a significant difference in satisfaction between the 2 groups after the intervention (38.69 ± 4.78 in the mobile learning group vs 33.13 ± 5.51 in the discussion group; P = 0.02). However, no significant difference was found after adjustment for baseline, age, and sex. The results also indicated that the students in the mobile learning group developed a significantly more positive attitude after the intervention compared to the baseline (P = 0.038). Conclusions: The study findings indicated that the utilization of smartphones for learning about psychotropic drug management in psychiatric departments might be effective in enhancing student's learning outcomes, satisfaction, and attitude. Background: Respect for human dignity has been the focus of various studies on patients' health and treatment. Despite the increasing number of cancer patients, to date, the dimensions of dignity have not been fully identified for this group. This study was conducted with the aim of the development and psychometrics evaluation of a dignity assessment questionnaire for Iranian cancer patients. Method: This mixed-method design with a sequential exploratory approach was conducted in Iran. In the first phase, a purposive sampling method was used to recruit the participants and the sampling continued until data saturation. The data were collected through individual semi-structured interviews. In the second phase, the validity and reliability of this instrument were assessed among 300 cancer patients. Results: The dignity assessment questionnaire for cancer patients included four domains and 27 items. The domains of the questionnaire were "the performance of the treatment team", "respect for patients' personal space", "family support", and "adequate equipment and facilities". The internal consistency of the questionnaire was assessed using Cronbach's alpha coefficient and the split-half method. To confirm the stability, test-retest was utilized and the result of the interclass correlation coefficient for the entire questionnaire was 0.94. Conclusion: A dignity assessment questionnaire has been developed based on the perception and understanding of cancer patients, their family caregivers, and oncology nurses. The findings of the present study could help healthcare providers to implement a scheme with the aim of strengthening support for and better treatment and care of cancer patients. Introduction: The existence of an effective relationship between teachers and students plays a pivotal role in the improvement of the education process, learning, and students' growth. Objectives: The present study aimed to determine the experiences of students and professors of medical sciences from the effective factors in the student-teacher relationship. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted on 10 professors and 10 students. The study data were collected using Individual in-depth interviews, focus group interviews, and observation. The study data were analyzed using conventional content analysis proposed by Granheim and Landman. Results: The results revealed 16 subcategories and 4 main categories. The main categories included "adherence to moral values", "professor's professional competence", "sociocultural factors", and" clinical communication". Conclusions: The present findings helped to identify a wide range of the dimensions and various factors affecting the student-teacher relationship in medical universities. Educational Managers and decision-makers can use the results of the study to determine the problems of the relationship process between the Professor and the student and to decide on the appropriate action to develop this important process. Background: Since "dignity" is one of the fundamental rights of every patient, consideration for patients' dignity is essential. Unfortunately, in many cases, especially in cancer patients, dignity is not fully respected. Dignity is an abstract concept, and there are only a few comprehensive studies on the dignity of cancer patients in Iran. Research objective: This study aimed to evaluate the perception of Iranian cancer patients on human dignity. Research design: A qualitative research approach was used as the study design. The data were collected through individual semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the qualitative content analysis method. Participants and research context: This study was conducted on cancer patients in internal medicine wards in Iran. The data were gathered through semi-structured interviews from May 2017 to February 2018. Ethical considerations: The study protocol was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of medical universities located in Southwest of Iran. The ethical principles were carefully followed throughout the study. Findings: Based on the results of the interviews, 3 main themes and 11 categories were determined. The main themes were identified as the "personal space and privacy," "respect for human values," and "moral support." Discussion: The results of the present study showed the necessity of care for cancer patients in a respectful manner. The key elements in such care were the preservation of their personal space and privacy, respect for their values, and the provision of adequate moral support. These measures will have a positive effect on the perception of such patients on human dignity. Conclusion: Considering the special care required by cancer patients, the Iranian healthcare and hygiene managers should design and implement a care plan that includes the ethical principles related to human dignity. Background and Purpose: Bipolar disorder is a common psychiatric disorder. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of two postdischarge educational methods including multimedia and group discussion on family caregiving of patients with bipolar disorder. Methods: In this study, the families of 30 patients with bipolar disorder in Shiraz hospitals were studied and matched in terms of gender and age into two groups. One group received the group discussion and the other received the multimedia teaching method interventions. The demographic variables including age, gender, education, marital status, and relationship with the patient were collected. Data were analyzed using SPSS 18 software. Results: Most of the patients were male and most of their caregivers were female. The results showed that the pre and posttest mean and standard deviations of educational function (P = 0.007), caregiving function (P = 0.0004) and medication function (P = 0.04) of the group receiving the multimedia teaching intervention were significantly different. However, the pre and post-test mean and standard deviations of caregiving function (P = 0.2) and medication function (P = 0.3) of the group receiving group discussion did not show a significant difference. However, there was a significant difference in educational function of this group (P = 0.02). Conclusion: The use of multimedia method is more effective than the group discussion method and can be used as a tool to improve the caregivers of patients with bipolar disorder in Iranian society. Given the limitations of traditional teaching methods in the learning process of adolescents, this study was designed to investigate the effects of osteoporosis prevention training through interactive multimedia method on the degree of knowledge and self-efficacy of female high school students. In this interventional study which was conducted in 2016 in Fars province, Iran, 120 high school students were selected through proportional stratified sampling from schools and different classes at first, second, third, and pre-university grades. The participants were randomly divided into two groups, each containing 60 students. Educational interventions for the test group included an interactive multimedia CD, and for the control group was an educational booklet. Before and one month after the intervention the students' level of knowledge and self-efficacy was measured. The spss 19 statistical software was used, and descriptive and analytical tests were performed to analyze the data. Results showed a significant difference in self-efficacy scores after the intervention (P=0.012) with the test group obtained a higher self-efficacy score than the control group. Also, a significant increase was observed in the knowledge score of both groups after the training (P<0.001), but the knowledge score between the two groups was not statistically significant (P=0.38) after the intervention. The use of new training methods like interactive multimedia CD for public education, particular adolescents about health and hygiene is recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
