7. A Fuzzy Clustering Model for Fuzzy Data with Outliers

Abstract

In this paper a fuzzy clustering model for fuzzy data with outliers is proposed. The model is based on Wasserstein distance between interval valued data which is generalized to fuzzy data. In addition, Keller's approach is used to identify outliers and reduce their influences. We have also defined a transformation to change our distance to the Euclidean distance. With the help of this approach, the problem of fuzzy clustering of fuzzy data is reduced to fuzzy clustering of crisp data. Abstract

The study investigated wind-driven upwelling along the Makran coasts, utilising wind, temperature, and sea surface current data. Results revealed a seasonal coastal upwelling system along the eastern Makran coasts, primarily influenced by coastline orientation, and impacting sea surface dynamics. Trend analysis of sea surface temperature (SST) data indicated consistently negative, or near-zero, SST variations in the Makran upwelling system, in contrast to adjacent areas. Peak upwelling intensity occurred in May, spanning 62° to 66° E, encompassing over 300 km of Makran coasts. Temperature profile data validated the presence of a seasonal coastal upwelling system along the eastern Makran coasts. The examination of sea surface current components, in the northern Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman, highlighted the dominance of the seasonal upwelling system, driven by a decreased geostrophic current in May. In the northern Arabian Sea, the intensified geostrophic current, interacting with the Ekman current, diminished coastal upwelling intensity along the eastern Makran coasts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

21. Multicriteria analysis of sewage sludge-based biodiesel production

Abstract

There is increasing attention on developing efficient processes including circular economy principles, and obtaining fuels from wastewater treatment feedstocks is among the most promising. As a wastewater treatment byproduct, sewage sludge is a source of lipids that can be converted to biodiesel in a transesterification process. Economic and environmental analysis have been applied to a 60 m3/h sewage sludge plant, exploring 32 process alternatives. Using solvent extraction from wet sewage sludge, the high cost associated with the drying step is skipped. The wet alternatives with low amounts of solvent and acid usage depicted higher performance compared to the dry ones. Incorporating additional extraction stages increases both the financial gains and environmental impacts. As a result, a multicriteria analysis is implemented to ascertain the optimum process based on different priorities. The case with 0.5:1 (v/v) of hexane to biomass ratio, 3-stage extractor, 60 min residence time and pH 4 was the optimum alternative in most criteria.Copyright © 2023 The Authors. 42. Actinobacteria as effective biocontrol agents against plant pathogens, an overview on their role in eliciting plant defense

Abstract

Pathogen suppression and induced systemic resistance are suitable alternative biocontrol strategies for integrated plant disease management and potentially comprise a sustainable alternative to agrochemicals. The use of Actinobacteria as biocontrol agents is accepted in practical sustainable agriculture, and a short overview on the plant-beneficial members of this phylum and recent updates on their biocontrol efficacies are the two topics of this review. Actinobacteria include a large portion of microbial rhizosphere communities and colonizers of plant tissues that not only produce pest-antagonistic secondary metabolites and enzymes but also stimulate plant growth. Non-pathogenic Actinobacteria can also induce systemic resistance against pathogens, but the mechanisms are still poorly described. In the absence of a pathogen, a mild defense response is elicited under jasmonic acid and salicylic acid signaling that involves pathogenesis-related proteins and secondary plant metabolites. Priming response partly includes the same compounds as the response to a sole actinobacterium, and the additional involvement of ethylene signaling has been suggested. Recent amplicon sequencing studies on bacterial communities suggest that future work may reveal how biocontrol active strains of Actinobacteria can be enriched in plant rhizosphere.
