Given a base manifold $M$ and a Lie group $G$, we define $\bar{\cal A}^H_M$ a space of generalized $G$-connections on $M$ with the following properties: - The space of smooth connections ${\cal A}^\infty_M = \sqcup_\pi {\cal A}^\infty_\pi$ is densely embedded in $\bar{\cal A}^H_M = \sqcup_\pi \bar{\cal A}^H_{cc(\pi)}$; moreover, in contrast with the usual space of generalized connections, the embedding preserves topological sectors. - It is a homogeneous covering space for the standard space of generalized connections of loop quantization $\bar{\cal A}_M$. - It is a measurable space constructed as an inverse limit of of spaces of connections with a cutoff, much like $\bar{\cal A}_M$. At each level of the cutoff, a Haar measure, a BF measure and heat kernel measures can be defined. - The topological charge of generalized connections on closed manifolds $Q= \int Tr(F)$ in 2d, $Q= \int Tr(F \wedge F)$ in 4d, etc, is defined. - On a subdivided manifold, it can be calculated in terms of the spaces of generalized connections associated to its pieces. Thus, spaces of boundary connections can be computed from spaces associated to faces. - The soul of our generalized connections is a notion of higher homotopy parallel transport defined for smooth connections. We recover standard generalized connections by forgetting its higher levels. - The kth level of our higher gauge fields is trivial if and only if $\pi_{k-1} G$ is trivial. Then $\bar{\cal A}^H_\Sigma \neq \bar{\cal A}_\Sigma$ if the gauge group is not simply connected and $d \geq 2$. We present a general formalism for higher dimensional versions of lattice gauge fields based on higher strict homotopy groupoids. First, using the language of nonabelian Algebraic Topology, we define local lattice higher gauge fields. Then, we provide local-to-global principles for lattice higher gauge fields based on the HHSvK theorem. We prove that, under the correct assumptions, lattice higher gauge field as presented here, subsumes both the notion of extended lattice gauge field and other notions of higher lattice gauge field present in the literature., Comment: 20 pages

In decision making under uncertainty and risk, worst-case risk assessments are often conducted using maxitive monetary risk measures. In this article, we study maxitive monetary risk measures on the space $L^0$ of all random variables identified modulo almost sure equality. We prove that a monetary risk measure is maxitive and continuous from below if and only if it is a penalized maximum loss. Furthermore, we characterize the maximum loss as the unique maxitive and law-invariant monetary risk measure. We apply the results to large deviation theory by providing a general criterion to establish a sharp large deviation estimate for sequences of probability measures. We use these findings to provide a formula for the asymptotics of the distortion-exponential insurance premium principle under risk pooling.

We present a simplicial model for gravity written in terms of a discretized Lorentz connection and a discretized tetrad field. The continuum limit of its action is Holst's action for general relativity. With the intention of using it to construct spin foam modes for quantum gravity, we write two other equivalent models written in terms of a discretized and constrained $B$ field. The differences between our model and existing models are most likely inessential in the sense that a quantization would lead to equivalent quantum theories in the Wilsonian continuum limit. Nevertheless, we mention two features leading to possible advantages: Curvature degrees of freedom are described at the level of each 4-simplex. The present paper provides a representation result for monetary risk measures (i.e., monotone translation invariant functionals) satisfying a weak maxitivity property. This result can be understood as a functional analytic generalization of G\"{a}rtner-Ellis large deviations theorem. In contrast to the classical G\"{a}rtner-Ellis theorem, the rate function is computed on an arbitrary set of continuous real-valued functions rather than the dual space. As an application of the main result, we establish a large deviation result for sequences of sublinear expectations on regular Hausdorff topological spaces.

Fields exhibit a variety of topological properties, like different topological charges, when field space in the continuum is composed by more than one topological sector. Lattice treatments usually encounter difficulties describing those properties. In this work, we show that by augmenting the usual lattice fields to include extra variables describing local topological information (more precisely, regarding homotopy), the topology of the space of fields in the continuum is faithfully reproduced in the lattice. We apply this extended lattice formulation to some simple models with non-trivial topological charges, and we study their properties both analytically and via Monte Carlo simulations., Comment: We added some references and a section where we make contact between the extended lattice formalism and the usual lattice variables augmented with an integer lattice field in the dual lattice. The Shilkret integral with respect to a completely maxitive capacity is fully determined by a possibility distribution. In this paper, we introduce a weaker topological form of maxitivity and show that under this assumption the Shilkret integral is still determined by its possibility distribution for functions that are sufficiently regular. Motivated by large deviations theory, we provide a Laplace principle for maxitive integrals and characterize the possibility distribution under certain separation and convexity assumptions. Moreover, we show a maxitive integral representation result for weakly maxitive non-linear expectations. The theoretical results are illustrated by providing large deviations bounds for sequences of capacities, and by deriving a monotone analogue of Cram\'{e}r's theorem.

In this paper, we show that the basic results in large deviations theory hold for general monetary risk measures, which satisfy the crucial property of max-stability. A max-stable monetary risk measure fulfills a lattice homomorphism property, and satisfies under a suitable tightness condition the Laplace Principle (LP), that is, admits a dual representation with affine convex conjugate. By replacing asymptotic concentration of probability by concentration of risk, we formulate a Large Deviation Principle (LDP) for max-stable monetary risk measures, and show its equivalence to the LP. In particular, the special case of the asymptotic entropic risk measure corresponds to the classical Varadhan-Bryc equivalence between the LDP and LP. The main results are illustrated by the asymptotic shortfall risk measure.

Parallel transport as dictated by a gauge field determines a collection of local reference systems. Comparing local reference systems in overlapping regions leads to an ensemble of algebras of relational kinematical observables for gauge theories including general relativity. Using an auxiliary cellular decomposition, we propose a discretization of the gauge field based on a decimation of the mentioned ensemble of kinematical observables. The outcome is a discrete ensemble of local subalgebras of ``macroscopic observables'' characterizing a measuring scale. A set of evaluations of those macroscopic observables is called an extended lattice gauge field because it determines a $G$-bundle over $M$ (and over submanifolds of $M$ that inherit a cellular decomposition) together with a lattice gauge field over an embedded lattice. A physical observable in our algebra of macroscopic observables is constructed. An initial study of aspects of regularization and coarse graining, which are special to this description of gauge fields over a combinatorial base, is presented. By means of the techniques of Boolean valued analysis, we provide a transfer principle between duality theory of classical convex risk measures and duality theory of conditional risk measures. Namely, a conditional risk measure can be interpreted as a classical convex risk measure inside of a suitable set-theoretic model. As a consequence, many properties of a conditional risk measure can be interpreted as basic properties of convex risk measures. This amounts to a method to interpret a theorem of dual representation of convex risk measures as a new theorem of dual representation of conditional risk measures. As an instance of application, we establish a general robust representation theorem for conditional risk measures and study different particular cases of it.

Several results in functional analysis are extended to the setting of $L^0$-modules, where $L^0$ denotes the ring of all measurable functions $x\colon \Omega\to \mathbb{R}$. The focus is on results involving compactness. To this end, a notion of stable compactness is introduced, and it is argued that the conventional notion of compactness does not allow to establish a functional analytic discourse in $L^0$-modules. Several characterizations of stable compactness are discussed, and its importance in applications is highlighted., Comment: 25 pages
