Orientador: Helio Cesar Nogueira Tolentino Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Fisica Gleb-Wataghin Resumo: O composto CuGeO3 apresenta propriedades magnéticas interessantes. É um isolante, com cadeia linear antiferromagnética, que sofre transição de spin-Peierls em tomo de 14K. Utilizando técnicas espectroscópicas de fotoemissão (níve12p do cobre e banda de valência) e fotoabsorção de raios X, estudamos a estrutura eletrônica desse composto. Para explicar os espectros usamos o modelo de cluster, que considera processos de transferência de carga entre metal-ligante, interações eletrostáticas e um parâmetro de hibridização entre as configurações. O estado fundamental é uma mistura das configurações 3d9 e 3d10L (L denota uma buraco no ligante). O espectro do nível 2p apresenta um pico principal, que corresponde ao estado final c3d10L, e um satélite, em mais alta energia de ligação, correspondente ao estado c3d9 ( c denota um buraco no nível 2p do cobre). Em relação ao composto padrão CuO, o termo de hibridização é aproximadamente o mesmo já que as distâncias interatômicas são muito similares. Por sua vez, a transferência de carga entre cobre-oxigênio é dificultada devido à presença do germânio, que tende a estabilizar o sítio do oxigênio. O espectro da banda de valência também é composto por dois picos: um principal, formado por uma mistura dos estados 3d10L2 e 3d9L , e um pico satélite, em mais alta energia de ligação, de caráter predominante 3d8. Os efeitos da simetria e do campo cristalino são mais relevantes nesse caso e as simplificações do modelo limitam sua concordância quantitativa com os resultados experimentais. O espectro de fotoabsorção (borda K do oxigênio) pode ser interpretado qualitativamente como uma combinação dos espectros do CuO e do GeO2. O espectro apresenta um pico correspondente à hibridização Cu3d -O2p, e uma estrutura alargada em mais alta energia, correspondente à hibridização Ge4sp3/Cu4sp -O2p. A diminuição da intensidade do pico Cu3d -O2p em relação ao CuO é confirmada pela menor porcentagem da configuração 3d10L no estado fundamental, calculada pelo espectros de fotoemissão Abstract: Not informed. Orientador: Daniel Mario Ugarte Texto em portugues e ingles Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Fisica "Gleb Wataghin" Resumo: Partículas nanometricas (1-100 nm) têm atraído grande atenção devido às novas propriedades físicas e químicas originadas pela sua elevada relação superfície/volume. Elas podem ser usadas com tijolos de construção na obtenção de sólidos nanoestruturados ideais (cluster-assembled materials ¿ CAMs), o que envolve basicamente três etapas: sintese, caracterização das propriedades individuais das nanopartículas passivadas. Nosso objetivo foi a implementação de uma metodologia para obtenção de CAMs, em particular trabalhamos com nanopartículas de ouro passivadas com tióis, sua caracterização estrutural e formação de supercristais auto-organizados. Modificações estruturais, com presença de estruturas não-cristalográficas (Multiple Twinned Particles (MTPs): decaedro e icosaedro) e contração nas distâncias interatômicas foram estudadas em função do tamanho das partículas (diâmetro médio entre 2 e 4 nm). O primeiro tópico foi estudado por Difração de Raios X (XRD) e Microscopia Eletrônica de Transmissão de Alta Resolução (HRTEM) enquanto que o segundo assunto foi abordado por Extended X-Ray Absorption Fine Structure (EXAFAS). O difratograma de raios X de umaamostra formada por nanopartículas contém informações superpostas sobre estrutura e tamanho das partículas e requer um método especial para analise, baseado num conjunto de perfils de difração teóricos, que inclui distribuição de tamanhos e diferentes estruturas (fcc, MTPs). Os resultados indicam que todas as amostras contém uma alta proporção de nanopartículas imperfeitas ou com estrutura complexa, que foi confirmado por imagens de HRTEM. Mesmo assim, uma dependência estrutural com o tamanho prevista teoricamente pôde ser claramente identificada neste sistema. Com relação à contração nas distâncias interatômicas, a análise de EXAFS revelou uma dependência suave com o tamanho médio das nanopartículas, e na três amostras o valor encontrado foi menor que 1%. A análise também revelou uma ligação metal-ligante curta, sugerindo uma interação forte na superfície; essa interação levaria à compensação parcial da contração esperada em clusters livres. Portanto ela pode ser suficientemente importante mesmo para partículas formadas por 200-1000 átomos (» 2-3nm em diâmetro), e não deve ser desconsiderada na associação de propriedades com tamanho das partículas. Em supercristais auto-organizados de nanopartículas, estudamos a cristalização em filmes finos submetidos a um tratamento térmico por Microscopia Eletrônica de Transmissão (TEM). Em particular, estudos em supercristais formados por poucas camadas (1 a 3) revelaram um empacotamento anômalo: expansão da primeira camada sobre o substrato e ocupação de sítios de simetria dois pelas nanopartículas da Segunda camada (regiões ordenadas de micrômetros); a terceira camada recupera o empacotamento convencional compacto. Esse empilhamento anômalo pôde ser entendido com base num modelo teórico simples, baseado em forças de van der Waals e evidenciou a importância das interações com o substrato no ordenamento das nanopaartículas Abstract: Nanometer-sized particles (1-100 nm) have attracted great interest since their high surface-to-volume ratio may lead to novel physical and chemical attributes. In particular, they can be used as building blocks to produce ideal nanostructured solids (cluster-assembled materials ¿ CAMs), which involves three steps: synthesis, characterization of individual properties and nanoparticles assembly. One of the most interesting classes of CAMs is the self-assembled supercrystals. The aim of this work was to carry out in somehow all these steps, and for that we have mainly dealt with thiol-passivated gold nanoparticles, their structural characterization and self-assembly in 2D or 3D arrangements. Structural modifications, such as the existence of non-crystallographic structures (Multiple Twined Particles (MTPs): decahedron and icosahedron) and inter-atomic distance contraction, have been studied as function of particle size (mean particle diameter from 2.0 ¿ 4.1 nm). The former subject was addressed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM) while the latter was studied by Extended X-Ray Absorption Fine Structure (EXAFS). Nanoparticle diffraction pattern contains superposed information on structure and particle size that requires a special fitting procedure, including a set of theoretical diffraction profiles (Debye-Scherrer formula) considering size dispersion and different structures (fcc, MTPs). The results indicate a high proportion of imperfect or more complex nanoparticle structures, fact that was confirmed by HRTEM imaging. Nevertheless, a clear structural tendency with particle size, expected theoretically, could be found in this system. Concerning nearest-neighbor distance determination, a slight contraction was less than 1%. The analysis also revealed a short metal-ligand bond, which suggests a rather strong surface interaction. We have inferred that the ligand interaction partially compensates the expected lattice contraction for free clusters. Our study indicates that the surface interaction may be still significant enough to generate structural modifications even in particles formed by 200 ¿ 1000 atoms (» 2-3 nm in diameter) and cannot be neglected when analysing particle properties in this size range. As for the self-assembled nanoparticle films composed by a few layers (1 to 3 layers) have shown an anomalous packing: expansion of the first layers lying on amorphous carbon substrate and an ordered second layer sitting on two-fold saddle points (regions of micrometer size); the third layer recovers the conventional close-packed staking. The use of CeO2 as a promoter for non-reducible supports, such as SiO2, enhances the catalytic activity by facilitating the activation of species such as O2 and H2O. However, in the case of the bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs), the presence of promoters may also influence the migration of the metallic species, dramatically impacting the stabilization of catalytic sites and as consequence, the overall catalytic performance. In the case of AuCu alloy supported catalysts, the reduced form, i.?e., AuCu alloy, or the oxidized form, i.?e., Au-CuOx species, present different activities/selectivities. Moreover, several parameters, such as reactional conditions, AuCu particle size, support nature, and pretreatments dictate which species are stabilized on the catalyst surface. The preferential oxidation of CO (CO-PROX) reaction, that takes place under the H2-rich stream, favors the stabilization of the reduced form of the AuCu catalysts. However, the Cu distribution in the crystal lattice and the final composition of the AuCu NPs are dependent on the mobility of the Cu species on the support. In this work, we show that the loading of the CeO2 as a promotor in AuCu/SiO2 catalysts impacts the CeOx species and the Cu reincorporation into the Au lattice and consequently, the activity and stability of the catalysts under CO-PROX reaction. Nickel loading effect on steam reforming of ethanol: Two populations of Ni species on ceria nanorods were observed. The smaller ones (Nisup, observed in all catalysts) were the most active, but quickly deactivated by oxidation at low temperature. Ni nanoparticles (Nibulk, observed at higher loadings) helped to stabilize the Nisup fraction reduced, leading to a more stable catalyst. Ni-CeO2 nanorods catalysts (1–10 wt% Ni loadings) were evaluated in steam reforming of ethanol (SRE). Ex situ and in situ characterization showed two populations of Ni species according to Ni loading: (i) one highly dispersed, strongly interacting with CeO2 (Nisup) and (ii) another one formed by Ni nanoparticles (Nibulk). While the metal loading impacted on the Nibulk fraction, the Nisup population remained similar, leading to similar activities of the catalysts toward SRE. The results highlight the role of the Nisup fraction in the catalyst performance. Nevertheless, we found that while Nibulk species favored carbon deposition, the Nisup species were easily oxidized at low temperatures, leading to catalyst deactivation. The synthesis process and the events of heterogeneous nucleation during the decomposition of the iron precursor were carefully studied in order to understand the mechanism of the reaction and to tailor the architecture of the fabricated heterostructures. When employing Au seeds of 3 and 5 nm, nanoparticles with a dimer-like morphology were produced due to the occurrence of a single iron oxide nucleation event. Otherwise, multi-nucleation events could be favored by two mechanisms: (i) by the incorporation of a reducing agent and the slowing down of the heating protocol, leading to a core-shell system; (ii) by the increase of the Au seed size to 8 nm, leading to a flower-like system. Further increase of the Au seed size to 12 nm using similar synthesis conditions promotes the homogeneous nucleation and growth of the iron oxide phase, without formation of heterostructures. An in-depth study was performed on the gold-iron oxide heterostructures to confirm the epitaxial growth of the oxide domain over the Au seed and to analyze the elemental distribution of the components within the heterostructures.
